The climate crisis is not only a technological or policy challenge — it is also a crisis of worldview. In this powerful conversation, Corinna Bellizzi speaks with Osprey Orielle Lake, founder and executive director of the Women's Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN), about how climate justice movements around the world are working to transform our relationship with nature, power, and community. Osprey's work bridges grassroots activism, Indigenous leadership, international climate negotiations, and legal innovations like the Rights of Nature movement. Drawing from her book The Story Is in Our Bones: How Worldviews and Climate Justice Can Remake a World in Crisis, she explores how systems like colonization, extractive economics, and patriarchy have shaped today's ecological crises — and how new stories rooted in reciprocity, justice, and stewardship can guide the path forward. This conversation explores the role of Indigenous knowledge in climate solutions, the fight against fossil fuel expansion, the growing global push for legal protections for ecosystems, and the importance of community-led restoration efforts around the world. Dr. Carla Finkielstein is an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences within the Biocomplexity Institute of Virginia Tech. She is also Director of the Integrated Cellular Response Laboratory at Virginia Tech, a Member of the Executive Committee of the Susan G. Komen Blue Ridge Board, and past member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation. Carla is interested in understanding the mechanisms cells use to measure time to regulate cell division. She hypothesizes that cancer may occur when the clocks within cells signal to the cell to divide too frequently. Carla's goal is to understand how this process occurs so that we can fix the issue, detect the problem early to provide treatment, or prevent it from happening. Outside of science, Carla's favorite hobby is cooking. She loves making new and creative dishes that bring together different colors, flavors, and taste profiles. Cooking is relaxing for her, and it's fun to share dishes she creates with her friends and family. In addition, Carla enjoys reading a wide variety of books about history. Carla received her B.S. and Ph.D. both in Molecular Biology from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. Afterwards, she worked as a Research Associate at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Carla then conducted further postdoctoral research at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center before joining the faculty at Virginia Tech. Carla has been recognized for her research accomplishments with the L. Chely Award for Best PhD Thesis, a Howard Hughes Institute Fellowship for Research, an American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Karin Noss Scholarship for Research Advocacy in Breast Cancer, the Susan G. Komen Award for Junior Investigators, and a National Science Foundation CAREER Award. In our interview Carla shared more about her life and science.
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is taking the world by storm, promising to enhance efficiency and revolutionize business. Corporations are embracing the technology, with AI market size expected to reach $1 trillion by 2030. But companies that deploy AI for their operations are confronting risks involving litigation, privacy, and ethics. And regulators are struggling to keep pace with its rapid deployment, leading some to fear AI is out of control — that it could spawn a surveillance state and render portions of the workforce obsolete. How can businesses best employ AI efficiently? What are its superpowers — and potential perils? And what's in store for the future of AI technology?Join The Sidley Podcast host and Sidley partner, Sam Gandhi, as he speaks with one of the firm's thought leaders on these issues — Dave Gordon, a member of the firm's Executive Committee, the co-leader of the firm's Commercial Litigation and Disputes practice, the head of the Litigation group in the firm's Chicago office, and the co-chair of the firm's Artificial Intelligence Council. Together, they discuss who is using AI and why, the risks and best practices to deployment, and what to expect in the ever-changing legal and regulatory landscape.

Building a successful sales career isn't just about hitting quotas—it's about intentional career planning, fostering creativity, and creating environments where talent can flourish. Too many organizations focus solely on product training while neglecting the human element that drives revenue growth. In this conversation with Edward Allen, Chief Revenue Officer at Measurabl, we explore how strategic career development and creative thinking can transform both individual trajectories and organizational performance. Edward shares insights from his 30-year journey through financial services and technology, revealing how simple yet structured approaches to talent development can reduce attrition and accelerate growth. In this special "SBC Weekly Roundup" edition of the CBL Podcast, William Wolfe and Jon Whitehead unpack breaking news within the Southern Baptist Convention, including the Executive Committee's new $186M Cooperative Program budget and ongoing financial strain on the EC. They discuss the disfellowshipping of two churches over female pastors and broader concerns about egalitarianism. A major focus is the McRaney v. NAMB case and the Supreme Court's denial of review, which Whitehead argues reshapes Baptist polity and weakens ordinary Baptists' civil recourse against defamation. This week on The Hamilton Review Podcast, we're pleased to welcome pediatrician Dr. Cori Cross. In this episode, Dr. Cross explores the impact of social media on children and offers practical guidance for parents navigating today's complex digital landscape. Drawing from her Peds in Review article, "The Complicated Reality of Social Media," Dr. Cross joins Dr. Bob for a thoughtful discussion that takes a deeper look at the challenges and opportunities social media presents for families. We hope you enjoy this important and timely conversation. We are continuing our miniseries where we pay tribute to one of my favorite podcasts, Revisionist History, hosted by the well-known author Malcolm Gladwell. Gladwell describes Revisionist History as a podcast about things overlooked and misunderstood. There are many injuries or problems we see in the office or on the sidelines that patients, parents, coaches, and even health care professionals give a generic label or diagnosis. In some situations, it may be correct, but often things get lumped into a simple category which may lead to things not being treated or managed most effectively. This is episode 9 of this series I am affectionately calling “Revisionist Sports Medicine”, a series about things in Pediatric Sports Medicine overlooked or misunderstood. Connect with The Host! On January 3, the United States bombed cities across Venezuela and kidnapped Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Donald Trump has clearly exposed the reality of the ‘rules-based international order', which is nothing but a fig leaf for the interests of western imperialism. This is only the beginning of a drawn out, bloody process for the masses of Venezuela and all Latin America, as Trump looks to reclaim the USA's backyard by any means necessary. This talk, delivered by comrade Marcus from the Executive Committee of the Revolutionary Communist Party, analyses this situation, explaining how we got here. Background: Cunningham spent 25 years at Lansing Community College, where she served as President from 2000-2006. Under her leadership, the college implemented a strategic planning process that resulted in five new buildings. The main building on the LCC campus was officially named the Paula D. Cunningham Administration Building in 2006. From 2006-2015 she served as president and CEO of Capitol National Bank in Lansing, where she successfully led the bank through Michigan's worst recession in 70 years. She was inducted into the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame in 2013 for her business and community service. Cunningham is known as a pioneer. She was the first female president of LCC and the first female president and CEO of Capitol National Bank, in addition to being the only African American female in the country to be president and CEO of a majority owned bank. Cunningham was also the first African American female to chair the board of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce. Throughout her career, Cunningham has been actively involved with numerous community and governmental organizations, some of which include: Chair of the board of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce; Board of Trustees of Davenport University; Executive Committee of the McLaren Health Systems; Chair of the Michigan Association of United Ways; Executive Committee of the Michigan Nonprofit Association; founding member of MiQuest Board, and Co-chair of the Children's Leadership Council of Michigan. Now, State Director of AARP Michigan, a phenomenal organization that works tirelessly on behalf of people age 50 and older to help them to live their best lives. Questions: ● What's one piece of advice you wish you could give your younger self at the start of your leadership journey? ● You've had a remarkable career in education and business before becoming State Director of AARP Michigan. What inspired you to take on this role, and how has your background shaped your leadership at AARP? ● AARP Michigan serves 1.4 million members across the state. What do you see as the most pressing issues facing older adults in Michigan today, and how is AARP addressing them? ● AARP's mission is to help people age with dignity and purpose. What does “aging with dignity” mean to you personally? ● You've spoken about the importance of community and collaboration. How do you see women leaders shaping the future of aging policy and advocacy in Michigan? ● What advice would you give to younger women who are thinking ahead about their health, finances, and aging journey? ● You've been involved in the groundbreaking menopause initiative alongside Halle Berry and Governor Whitmer. Why is it so important to bring menopause into the public conversation? ● Many women feel menopause is stigmatized or overlooked in healthcare. How does this initiative aim to change that narrative? With hosts Becky Burka & Lorri Rishar Jandron ● What role do you see AARP playing in advancing awareness, education, and policy around menopause and women's health more broadly? ● How can communities, employers, and policymakers better support women during this stage of life? ● What impact do you hope this initiative will have on Michigan women in the next five years? ● If you could leave the audience with one key takeaway about aging, women's health, and collaboration, what would it be? Becky and Lorri sat down with Paula Cunningham, State Director of AARP Michigan, for a powerful conversation on women's issues, the pay gap, and menopause. Drawing on her extensive career experience, Paula shared valuable insights for younger generations while reflecting on the challenges she has faced as a woman navigating the workplace.

Why do many voters believe aid is a quarter of the budget when it is a tiny fraction and how does that shape support? How did a political decision to halt awards ripple through real programs and what safeguards failed? What legal and institutional checks should prevent a single administration from impounding funds that Congress appropriated? When government pauses, how can private funders triage the most life saving pieces without letting systems collapse? If an agency is rebuilt, which programs should be protected first and which processes should be redesigned from day one? How do we embed evidence and cost effectiveness at the start of strategy rather than as an afterthought in evaluation? What would it look like to center partner governments in the process so that learning becomes part of their own delivery? How can we avoid a fixation on what is easy to measure while still demanding clear estimates and accountability? What does it mean to meet donors where they are while steering them toward the highest impact use of funds? Dean Karlan is the Frederic Esser Nemmers Distinguished Professor of Economics and Finance at Northwestern University, and the Founder and former President of Innovations for Poverty Action, a non-profit organization dedicated to discovering and promoting solutions to global poverty problems. Divorce can feel like you're unravelling from the inside out, and today Dr. Beth Karassik and Louise Zito, Esq. join Susan E. Guthrie to explain why and how you can regain your emotional footing. If you're overwhelmed, scared, or emotionally flooded in the middle of divorce, there is a scientific reason for it and there are ways to steady yourself, even when everything around you feels chaotic. In this powerful conversation, Susan Guthrie is joined by clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist Dr. Beth Karassik and longtime mediator and collaborative professional Louise Zito, Esq. to break down what's happening in your brain and body during divorce and share practical tools for restoring calm, clarity, and control. Together, they help you understand why your reactions feel so big, why everyday decisions suddenly feel impossible, and what you can do right now to support your nervous system through one of the most destabilizing experiences of your life. Plus, for legal practitioners, discover how Beth and Louise's work can help you re-align, re-center, and rein in the chaos of divorce work. Why This Conversation Matters When you're navigating divorce without understanding what's happening in your nervous system, it's easy to blame yourself, question your decisions, or feel like you're failing. And for the professionals who support divorcing individuals, understanding these emotional dynamics (and tending to their own regulation) directly affects their ability to guide clients forward. A grounded professional creates a grounded process, leading to healthier outcomes for everyone involved. This conversation supports both sides of the experience: the people living through divorce and the practitioners walking beside them. You Will Learn: Why divorce triggers fear, confusion, and emotional flooding How stress impacts communication, decision-making, and co-parenting Signs that your overwhelm is actually a trauma response Practical grounding tools you can use today Scripts for setting emotional boundaries during conflict How to build a support system that keeps you steady Why the emotional health of your divorce professional affects your experience Insight into the Calma Collective Retreat supporting divorce professionals Download the Calming Exercise Guide from this Episode: Access the grounding tools discussed in this episode.
