Here it is, folks—the first post-hiatus episode of Adrian Has Issues! Joining me in the co-hosting chair is none other than Eileen aka The LatiNerd. We sit down for a thought-provoking conversation with the co-founders of Oneshi Press: Jayel Draco (Lead Designer) and Lynsey G Editor-In-Chief). Oneshi Press is an independent publishing company with a strong emphasis on community and inclusion. Their latest project is issue #4 of PACK, a vigilante thriller in which 6 stray dogs, and 1 stray man battling crime and corruption in a gentrified Brooklyn. In this episode, Eileen and I have an honest discussion with Jayel and Lynsey regarding the real-life social issues that inform the world of PACK. We explore how themes of racism, allyship and community affect people not just on street level but in the highest levels of government.
On this episode of Talking Like A Teen, we are literally rushing back into our past to check out an episode of Adrian Has Issues from 2018, a year before this podcast would debut, to hear its proto beginnings. The kernel of this show is present here: snotty music chatter, crabbing about how the NHL is terrible and yet we love it, shit talking and general…us…ness. It's a fun look back. But as this episode is being released around Thanksgiving, this episode did make me thankful for a few things that have changed since 2018: 1) I bought a podcasting mic and no longer just shout in the general direction of my laptop. 2) The Blackhawks are bad now and the NHL isn't actively using Patrick Kane's dumb face to try to sell professional hockey. 3) I'd love to say that Kid Rock has shown any sort of growth or remorse since this, but I don't think he has, so…I'm thankful I blocked him on twitter? 4) You. Yes, you. Thanks for listening and reading these goober descriptions.
On this special episode of Conversing with an Adult, Ashley and Adrian come together to celebrate the most holy of TLAT holidays: N7 Day! They pulled out a Prothean relic from Adrian's podcast “Adrian Has Issues” – an interview they did a couple of years ago with Mass Effect protagonist FemShep voice actor Jennifer Hale! Jennifer Hale talks about recording her first audiobook, making music, and the importance of voting in our current political hellscape. (Midterms are this week, so the message still stands–go vote, if you're able.) So, respectfully, please check out the episode. This One hopes you enjoy it!

This week Ringo Award nominated writer Frank Gogol returns to Adrian Has Issues! Frank is the writer and creator of comics such as the anthology Grief, No Heroine (which Frank and I discussed on Episode 154) and the critically acclaimed coming of age miniseries Dead End Kids through Source Point Press. In this episode, Frank talks about dealing with the whirlwind success of the original series and approaching writing the follow-up Dead End Kids: The Suburban Job. Adrian and Frank talk about the significance post-9/11 society plays in the comic and how we as a society are still experiencing the ripples of the tragic events. Plus, Frank gives his perspective on the importance of pre-ordering comics from both a retailer and reader point of view.

The Adrian Has Issues podcast recently celebrated a 3-year anniversary. Adrian and Eileen decided to take the time out to say "thanks!" for the love and support from the comic book and podcasting communities. However, in those three years, there have been some issues that need to be addressed. With much reflection and soul-searching, our hosts expressed those issues in the hope of creating a dialogue among the community regarding topics related to professionalism, responsibility, ethics and more. The intention is not for the sake of condemnation, but to help a supportive group continue to grow and be there for one another. Podcasting is very important on a personal and professional level, but if it is to grow it takes everybody working together.

Comic book creators Matt Harding, Ricardo Lima and returning guest Kevin Cuffe are all involved in an upcoming anthology entitled, Not Forgotten: A Public Domain Superhero Anthology. The collection features re-imaginings of obscure "Golden Age" superheroes that have faded into relative obscurity. We discuss the origins of the anthology and Iron Skull by Kevin and Ricardo, which will be included in the anthology. Plus, there's hilarious discussions on Star Trek and the epic beards of comic book creators.

As is often said on this show, the Adrian Has Issues podcast would be nothing without the love and support from its listeners and guests, but also the comic book community itself. To that end, Adrian and and Eileen forego a standard interview to say "thank you" to everybody who has supported the show since its inception. Adrian reflects on the his humble (and awkward) beginnings as a podcaster and Eileen reaffirms the podcast's mission to continue to be a voice for the hardworking men and women in the comic community. Also, both hosts emphasize the importance of respect and professionalism among creators and fans.

Steve Petrivelli is a Philadelphia-based comic book writer, best known for his comic Sweetie, which was drawn by Sean Dillon. In what is his second appearance on Adrian Has Issues, Steve gives listeners a detailed breakdown of the early years of the comic book industry, which are often referred to as the "golden" and "silver" age of comic books. These two eras would shape the comic book landscape for years to follow and formed what we now know as two of the biggest publishers of comics, Marvel and DC.

This week's episode was recorded on location at East Side Mags in Montclair, NJ. Today's guest is Joe Caramagna, an Eisener and Harvey award nominated letterer who's worked on Marvel titles such as Daredevil, Captain America and New Avengers as well as serving as the writer of two creator-owned titles: The Further Travels of Wyatt Earp and Model Operandi. Fellow Jersey-based writer/artist Stephen Coughlin also steps in for a few quick comments in between drawing sketches for kids. Stephen is the creator of the title Sanctuary for Slave Labor Graphics. My conversation with Joe is as random as it is hilarious. We talk about his background in comics as a graduate of the Kubert School and starting out as an intern with Marvel Comics. This is Adrian Has Issues, so you know I gotta get some hockey-related banter in and we riff on the Minnesota Wild logo, defunct teams and how Joe's comic book career mirrors that of legendary goalie Martin Brodeur. Also in this episode: Facebook v Twitter: Dawn of Social Networking! Lethal Weapon Impersonations! Superhero Presidential Candidates! The Secret Origins of Stephen Coughlin Adrian King: The Geek Chris Matthews! And more!

Friend of the show Ashley Burgy returns to Adrian Has Issues, picking up where we left off in Episode 8. We originally planned to talk about a variety of topics within the NHL, but thanks to a steady diet of PBR and cherry-flavored spray candy we ended up falling down a rabbit hole and began riffing on bands that have performed at the Honda Civic Tour. For the next 50 minutes or so we get pretty geeky over pop/punk bands of the mid-2000s, so you'll hear us talk about bands like Motion City Soundtrack, The Matches and more. In This Episode: Adrian's weird hockey dreams! What's the deal with Christian Pop Punk? Are songwriters better when their lives suck? Adrian sings Hoobastank! And more!

While the world debates the merits (or lack thereof) of Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Adrian and his Canadian compadre Aidan Wilson discuss another controversial Batman story. Legendary comic book creator Frank Miller is best known for some noteworthy comics from a run on Daredevil to The Dark Knight Returns to the infamous graphic novel Holy Terror. Considering the fallout from the latter title, there was some concern that The Dark Knight III: The Master Race would be more of the same. How does the story stack up to the iconic original? Which iteration of Batman is the definitive version? Is Frank Miller the "racist uncle" version of George Lucas? Will the success of an R-Rated superhero movie help or hinder the upcoming slate of costumed cinema? What does the future hold for Wade Wilson?
