Ian and Mark look back on 20 years of Francis Lawrence's Constantine! At the pre-dawn of our modern comic-book movie era, Warner Bros commissioned a $100 million adaptation of the cult DC Vertigo series, John Constantine: Hellblazer, featuring a sarcastic, chain-smoking British antihero who stalks the rainy streets of London contending with the supernatural. The resulting film stars a fully Americanized Keanu Reeves fighting the forces of darkness in L.A., accompanied by his spunky chauffeur, Shia LaBeouf. In 2005, lifelong Hellblazer fan Ian was unimpressed and mildly offended. Two decades on, his opinion of the film is markedly different--as is Mark's!Join us for this wide-ranging, spoilerific review, which also looks at the comics, the short-lived NBC reboot starring Matt Ryan, and the recent news of a possible Constantine sequel--which may find Reeves once again lighting up in that dapper black trenchcoat!Subscribe, like, and comment on Kicking the Seat here on YouTube, and check us out at:kickseat.comXLetterboxdBlueSkyInstagramFacebookShow LinksWatch the Constantine trailer. You can pick up the all-new 4K Ultra HD edition of Constantine from Warner Bros.Check out Mark "The Movie Man" Krawczyk's The Spoiler Room Podcast.

On today's episode, I talk to comics creator Cliff Chiang. Originally from New Jersey, Cliff wasn't sure of his direction in life, but wanted to give his dream of making comics a try and got an editorial job at DC/Vertigo after college. This led to drawing anthology stories and single issues which led to higher profile gigs on books like Human Target and Wonder Woman. In 2015, Cliff co-created the Eisner Award-winning series Paper Girls with Brian K. Vaughan, which was turned into a canceled-way-too-soon series on Amazon this year, and most recently, he wrote and drew the fantastic miniseries Catwoman: Lonely City, which just wrapped up at the end of October. After being held captive for 106 years, Morpheus escapes and sets out to restore order to his realm, The Dreaming. And if that were not enough, we also discuss DC League of Super-Pets! The computer-animated superhero comedy film is based on the DC Comics characters with voice talent including Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, and Keanu Reeves. It tells the story of Superman's pet dog Krypto and shelter dog Ace who work with other animals to defeat an unexpected adversary with a connection to Superman's nemesis Lex Luthor! And if that STILL were not enough, the fellas get some new comic book talk in!

This week we're talking about Netflix's 10 episode adaptation of the DC/Vertigo comic book series Sandman, by Neil Gaiman and a variety of artists (co-created by Sam Keith). This series is sometimes stunningly faithful to the comic, but there are some changes - some subtle, some aesthetic - that stick in our craws. We also talk about my tragic history of shoplifting, some comic book movie news and whether or not Derek wants a pet. The main discussion begins at 23:07. You may have noticed this episode is dropping on a different day of the week than normal - that's because Marvel is going to be releasing She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Thursdays, which means our whole recording schedule bumps back a day. This episode is the first on our new schedule. Thanks for listening! See you next week for She-Hulk!
