Chris Phillips Hockey Journey EP3Chris Phillips is my next guest and I'm really looking forward to the conversation, as we were teammates for a couple of seasons in Ottawa. Mr. Phillips is a Canadian-born hockey player who played junior hockey for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, Prince Albert Raiders, and Lethbridge Hurricanes. In 1996, he was selected first overall by the Ottawa Senators, not knowing at the time that he'd spend the next 17 years in the nation's capital, playing in 1179 career games. His charitable contributions to the community were many, one being Candlelighters which helps families that have a child battling cancer. He now is the co-owner of the Big Rig Brewery and is enjoying life after hockey with his wife Erin and 3 kids, Ben, Zoey, and Naomi. Enjoy the conversation :)
Erica and Jaime sit down with Sophie Prescott to talk about Big Rig Brewery and how to get started in the craft beer industry.
It's time to go to work this week, and in the spirit of Lincoln Hawk(s?), Cooper and Nolan weren't going to let anything stop them from making their 25th episode... not even increased Covid restrictions or the challenges of distance recording. The result was a lot like OVER THE TOP itself - it may not be pretty, but it's a good time. Creepy family vibes, scenery-chewing performances, nonsensical tournament formats... there's a lot to wrestle with in this movie, and the guys are taking it on with some help from Big Rig Brewery. With the magic combination of Cannon Films and 80s Stallone, you're going to want to meet this episode more than halfway!
In this week's episode, the guys welcome their first guest: Couch Scout Hockey. They grill him with questions about the (potentially plural) upcoming NHL draft(s) as well as other hockey-related subjects. They also cover Tatis Jr.'s monster contract, a Carson Wentz move and King James reaching 35,000 points. Mr. Kyle Bland is MIA for "Bland's Brew of the Week" but the show goes on with a feature for a beer from Big Rig Brewery in Ottawa, ON. Then later on, the guys kick around their memories of some of their earliest stereo systems. What is it about some sweet speakers that make you feel like a big shot? Katy and April battle the Kanatadaur to interview Big Rig Brewery's Lon Ladell at their Kanata production facility. Show Notes: The Kanatadaur - watch out for it. I Google'd so hard to find pictures of the cows from Le Biftheque to put on the show notes, but I couldn't find any. It was truly so, so silly. What's a tied house? Do you remember Heritage Brewery? DO-DO-DOOOOO! Sorry for that weird notification noise in the middle of Lon talking. I'm not sure what the computer was notifying me to do.. I'm really fascinated by those cows, huh? This is the article I drone on and on about. It was fun to see a restaurant go and a brewery being built in its place though. Is Ottawa the city that fun forgot?
