P&C drink and review a Wee Heavy from Belhaven brewery, then discuss Pearl Davis and her opinions on men's rights. The boys first heard about Pearl when The Daily Wire's Andrew Klavan and Michael Knowles interviewed her. She's an anti-feminist but also somewhat anti-traditionalist. Pearl tries to focus on reality – the facts on the ground – rather than coming from a particular ideological viewpoint. From Pearl's perspective, marriage is a raw deal for men. Here are some quotes from Pearl, to give you a feel for her point of view. “Women can't be criticized on the internet” If a man says a woman isn't wife material, is he allowed to have that opinion? Traditional conservatives believe in holding men accountable. A man can't be broke. He has to take care of his family. He has to stay in shape. When women do something wrong, it's always because they were lied to. It's always because of feminism. Why is it that when women do something wrong it's always somebody else's fault? “Women like to be objectified” Women only cry about objectification when they can't get what they want out of being objectified “In all of history there have always been concubines. They have a place.” “When women lead, societies and relationships go to Hell.” “Why can't we have a conversation about women without ‘but men.'” “Women should submit to their husbands in all things.” (from the Bible) “I prefer prostitutes to most tradcon women. At least the prostitutes are honest.” “Don't be a prostitute and then find God at 29.” “Many women screw up their own lives and then make it everyone else's problem.” “I'm not the enemy. The real enemy is these simps and these old, bitter, single women with nothing better to do.” “Old, bitter women lie to younger women because they don't want to be alone in their misery.” “Women are fatter than ever. They're sluttier than ever. More mental disorders. More tattoos. More drinking.”

Brian Kimmel, a veteran of several hikes across the Scottish Highlands, joins us for an audio tour of Caledonia. We start in the south at the venerable Traquair House and work our way northward to Orkney Islands for a wee nip of the potent Skull Splitter, before finishing closer to home with Zaftig's complex barrel aged Wee Heavy.

This week Bob and I continue our journey through the UK as we make our way to a Scottish Beer that can sometimes present itself as a bit boozy. In this episode we discuss Scottish Wee Heavy. This is a beer that brings a lot of breadiness and toast like qualities along with a bit of caramel/toffee. If you're into a maltier beer that often packs quite a punch then the Scottish Wee Heavy might be exactly what you need. Style examples: 1. Orkney Skull Splitter 2. Thirsty Dog Wulver 3. The Duck Rabbit Wee Heavy Scotch-Style Ale · ABV: 6.5-10% · IBUs: 17-35 · Color: 14-25 Our sample beer for the week: Founders Dirty Bastard 8.5% and 50IBU Beer as described by brewer: So good it's almost wrong. Dark ruby in color and brewed with seven varieties of imported malts. Complex in finish, with hints of smoke and peat, paired with a malty richness and a right hook of hop power to give it the bad attitude that a beer named Dirty Bastard has to live up to. Our apologies for being a day late this week. Lots of fun this week. Chris gets an unwelcomed mortgage payment increase email. Nick has a blast with family at the Texas coast. John wonders why the MLB owners hate fans. We talk about great beers we had from Resting Pulse, Galveston Island, and Beerburg Brewing. Then Chris takes over. He pays tribute to his late father-in-law near the 1 year anniversary of his passing. Then talks about how we keep our kids positive in situations that might not yield immediate positive outcomes when discussing his daughter's recent attempt at a career change. We move on to the style of the week which, for this week, is a Scotch Ale or Wee Heavy. We pour and taste the Real Ale Real Heavy for the second Real Ale beer in a row that we've featured.Thank you as always for listening.

How many Peets does it take to run a brewery? Kettlerock Brewing in Peachtree Corners, GA is a family affair. When patriarch Stephen Peet retired in 2019 he figured the easiest way to relax was to build a brewery, and bring the whole crew with him. Stephen and Sterling Peet joined us on the show this week with Diana, Christa, Taylor, and Devon Peet holding down the fort. That's a lotta Peets. Stephen tells us the focus of the brewery is community, nature, and the environment. He recalls a slow time and the brewery a a handful of guests sat apart in pairs but soon started chatting with each other, and that's exactly what he hopes Kettlerock fosters. When Sterling isn't brewing, he's a rocket scientist at Georgia Tech's Space Systems Design Laboratory. He shares some of the projects they've worked on and tells us about CubeSats. We asked if he's launched any yeast or grain into space and we're disappointed that he hasn't. The Peets were also founding members of the PC Mashers homebrew club. If you've been following the show for a while you may recall Jay as the winner of our Homebrewer of the Year in 2018. Even though they've gone pro they still stay involved with the club. As we chat we get the story behind the Kettlerock name and each beer. We talk about working with the whole family, and the cozy vibe at the taproom. Those that think every new beer today is an IPA will be pleased that the taplist is pretty diverse with a Blonde Ale, Belgian Tripel, Kettle Sour, Seltzer, Wee Heavy, Milk Stout, and a couple of IPAs, of course. When you visit the brewery and order the Kettle Sour or Seltzer you'll get a basic, unflavored brew that you can add a flavored syrup to. As we sampled the sour we realized how long it's been since we've seen one that didn't have fruit in it. Although their beer is only available at the taproom right now they've recently purchased a canning line and will have some available in the market soon. Maybe we can talk Sterling into turning one of those cans into a CubeSat. This week Steve talks with Casey Fatchett of the Nerdy Photographer. They talk a lot about Casey's podcast and how he makes it. They also talk about his Heiland 3-Cell Flash Gun. Look it's a pretty tangent heavy episode where Casey mostly entertains Steve with stories about being an actor. He was up for a roll in Vanilla Sky and he was up to do the voice of the Geico Gecko, and he shares with Steve why he didn't get those parts. It's all interlaced with chat about photography and the need for self-care so you don't die shooting weddings. Beer Talk: Casey - 90/~ Wee Heavy from Belhaven Brewery and also some scotch. Steve - Moon Rambler IPA from Founders Brewing Co. Q&A: If I roll a critical fail while shooting a wedding that's making everyone roll to determine how well they'll do (they love DnD)... do I have to critically fail? Should I ask clients if I can bring my own weed to smoke while shooting their weddings since my clients stopped sharing their joints during the pandemic? What sort of wrap can I put on my camera body that looks professional but still shows off my inner nerd? (I would consider anything Doctor Who, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, Star Gate or Farscape related, no Star Wars please) How can I get a client to stop leaving gross emoji memos on venmo when I sell them stuff? My friends think this guy is paying me for sex because it's all eggplant gush or peach gush every time I make a sale to him. Today on the show, we rip through a Scottish Wee Heavy and a Catharina Sour. Wee Heavies are great, and we love to see them come through. They can be complex or simple (or both?), and are usually great. Catharina Sours are still sort of being dialed in, as they are pretty new, but we love to seem them as well. Yo! So how’s everybody doing? COVID-19 continues to change our routines and lifestyles as we are now facing mandatory ‘shutter in place’ and closings. Hopefully everybody has plenty of home brew and brewing supplies to ease their minds. If you’re like us, you’re most likely filled up on coronavirus news reports and getting all streamed out on television, so why not change it up; pour a home brew, settle in and listen to Home Brew Rock Stars as we try to get through. In Part 2 of “Jazzin’ Up with Mr. Beer” we continue with David Benson talking about home brewing, Mr. Beer & other non-traditional types of brewing and his Jazz music recordings. David, Brent, Kent and Mike taste and review a home-brewed Tank #7 (Boulevard Brewing) clone brewed by David. A 7.7% farmhouse ale brewed in David’s Pico brew system. We also sampled an Imperial Rye Cream ale David made weighing in at a hefty 9% ABV (it's bigly!) - great back story here! Our sponsor Pig Minds Brewing provided us with a peaty & smoky Wee Heavy they call Smokeness Monster. This 8.1% ABV beer was just what the doctor ordered. Warning...with these big beers we’re drinking the podcast gets a bit slurry, but don't worry, it's all about having fun! Big thanks to Bryan, Shane and Dustin at Pig Minds Brewing we are thinking of you during this trying time for the restaurant/bar business. Shout out to Anthony and Aaron at Artale & Co, for all their suds and support, we love you guys and keep the alcohol sales going to help us all get through! Now is a great time to start indoor gardening with the extra time, stop in and see Bob at 815 Gardens and Brewing for your supplies and brewing needs. Please think about these businesses first when you are looking for a great craft beer and some of the best vegan food in the state line; seeking a hard to find commercial craft beer or wine and spirits to take home or as a gift. And when you are ready to brew up one of your favorite homebrew recipes or start a new indoor gardening project. Feedspot was recently nice enough to rank Home Brew Rock Stars as a Top 10 HomeBrewing Podcasts - kudos to them...they are some really smart people ;) And as always we appreciate if you make sure to Like us, Follow us and RATE US! Really... we do listen to you and WANT to hear from you. Prost! #drinkitup
Aw yeah, baby! The boys are back just in time for Dan to leave to go to France! But don't you worry your cute widdle face, uncle Jerry's got some friends who are coming on for the next, ultra-special episode of Craft Comics! THE SHOW MUST GO ON This week we drink Turn Out the Light, an Imperial Stout with Chocolate and Coconut by the Brewing Projekt and Weldwerks Brewing. We also have a lil sip sip of a yummy-ummy Wee Heavy aged in Brandy Barrels. Mmmmmmm.
This week we discussed breaking NFL news! We discussed Week 8 games and Week 9 picks! J.J. Watt has been lost for the season, is Matt Nagy incompetent, Cardinals trade for Kenyan Drake, rams ship Aqib Talib to Dolphions, Andy Dalton benched for good. We also circled around to more news for the Thirst and Goal (TAG) Teams, the Seahawks, Steelers, and Eagles. The Eagles bounce back in a big way at Bills.Frane concocted the A. A. Ron Packers shot. We tasted and reviewed Bowmore Single Malt Islay Scotch 12 Year, and Einstok Wee Heavy. Ben’s still drinking The Botanist Islay Dry Gin.Shout out to NFL Scotland Podcast Broadcasters Paul Mitchell and Cameron Hobbs are joined by a guest every week to discuss all things NFL, but from a Scottish Point of view. We welcome Bodacious Berries & Big Barn Brewing owner, Craig Deitz to play "Not My Beer." Craig shares with us a little bit about how he started out in farming and agriculture, spent years as a high school teacher and running coach, and somehow ended up one of the leading craft brewers in the Inland Northwest. As usual we have our host Chris Cindric, announcer Dave Basaraba, and this week's panelists are Tim Hilton (Mountain Lakes Brewing), Matt Hanson (Whistle Punk Brewing), and Dave Musser (Bellwether Brewing). We get down to the nitty gritty about a little of everything... from the origins of a Wee Heavy and the difference between a Scotch Ale and a Scottish Ale, and we discover the true meaning of "being adrift without a head" on a sloop with no bathroom. All of this whilst we pass the porrone and have a few laughs on this edition of "Wheat, Wheat... Don't Tell Me!"
This week, Karl Spiesman and I talk Wee Heavies and Scottish Ales. Plus in the Northeast Ohio Craft Brewery News "Tasting Glass": the people behind Small City Taphouse in Sandusky scored a coup when they picked up former Willoughby Brewing Company brewmaster Rick Seibt for their new brewery CLAG, plus McArthur's BrewHouse looks for a new location and more! Tune in!
Number 5 is Alive! We Hit the Trail, Explore the Arabian Desert, and Strap on a Kilt. Brandon stumbles along the trail with Dusty Bottoms Trail Runners, a drinking group with a running problem. Then he speaks with a former petroleum engineering manager from Kuwait who now inspires others to get out and see the wonders of the Arabian Peninsula and around the world. Finally, Paul speaks with a Scotsman who tosses cabers in Highland Games, deflects pucks on the ice but can’t deflect the question – What is under his kilt? To get you pumped for our trip to the UK we picked a Scottish Ale from Belhaven called Wee Heavy. That and our usual craic so have a listen while enjoying your next pint. We felt like getting overseas this week, and we knew the perfect person to join us - Niels Lameijer, the Vistage Chair extraordinaire! We brought the Einstök, and he brought the La Trappe! First though, we learn about Niels’ home of The Netherlands and what Holland is, plus he shares his beer adventures across the border to Belgium. Then it’s tasting time with Einstök Arctic Pale Ale, Einstök Wee Heavy, La Trappe Dubbel, and La Trappe Quadrupel! News is copious and global this week, beginning at home with The Motley Fool asking is 2019 is the year craft beer sales turn negative? Next up in Canada the The CBC (thanks Frank) shares the sad news that Canadian craft brewing innovator John Mitchell has died at 89, while over at The Calgary Herald (thanks Michael!) we learn that after a $1.7-million loss, Big Rock Brewery is announcing layoffs and blaming Alberta's beer tax increases. VinePair (thanks Steve!) lists 12 breweries who are combating water waste in beer production, and then France 24 (thanks again Michael) reveals Japan’s vow to keep taps flowing at the Rugby World Cup. Over in the UK, The Telegraph reports that a man successfully sued Brewdog for £1,000 after being told beer was only on sale to women, then Geek.com brings the sugar as even more Kellogg’s cereal is reborn as craft beer. We wind up (finally!) with Travel + Leisure enjoying a beer picnic in a bat cave in New Mexico and Reuters visiting overwhelmed Belgian monks who are entering the internet age to sell their prized beer! You guys had a lot to say about last week’s #caskquiz “what’s your main style going to be this summer? Lambic? Imperial pastry?” This week we want to know if you have ever taken a beercation? Where did you go and what did you drink? We so love hearing from you! Please send in feedback and beer suggestions by calling us at (919) 502-0280, Tweeting us, following our Instagram or friending us on Untappd, posting on and liking our Facebook page, or emailing us! And please rate & review us in iTunes or Stitcher if you haven’t done so!

Salutations, FDB Clan! Joining Ryan and Alex this week is actress and avid gamer, Evanne Friedmann, whose Twitch account has been absolutely on fire! We’ll also be drinking Wee Heavy by Belhaven Brewery Company Ltd. Established in 1719, Belhaven is Scotland’s oldest working brewery. With an abundance of local barley, fine water from the brewery well, and access to markets up and down the coast, Belhaven was, and still is, the perfect place for a brewery. Belhaven brewed from the same location for the last 300 years, and though they continue to honor traditional brewing, Belhaven’s also picked up a few tricks along the way, and have been trailblazers innovating new techniques in the UK. Wee Heavy Scotch Ale is has a rich and full bodied taste, with roasted malt sweetness balanced by a spicy fruitiness. This week on FDB - we hit the ground running with some hard hitting questions for Evanne, learn of a more cost effective way to arrive in Chicago, discover what’s NOT okay to donate to Goodwill, and more! Now please kick back, and enjoy another sit down with Friends Drink Beer. In this episode, we get style specific and talk about BJCP category 14 Scottish Ales, including Scottish Light, Scottish Heavy, and Scottish Export. Plus, we still include everyone’s favorite, the Wee Heavy, which is actually now listed under category 17 Strong British Beers. And because we’re talking Scottish ales, we also follow up with a discussion of the Scottish ale recipes we developed on air with Shannon from Shannon Brewing Co in episode 65. We all finally had a chance to brew them and give them a little time to age, so it’s time we discussed our results. Note: There were some technical difficulties with the first version of this episode's file upload and the first 7 or so minutes were scrambled. So, if you were one of the few who got that version, apologies for that and please do check out this corrected edited version!

Já conhece as novas instalações da Bodebrown? E o Beer Ranch? E a Bodebrown Wee Heavy Bourbon? Ficou curioso?
