Bill Owens established Buffalo Bill's Brewery as the first brewpub in America since Prohibition on August 2, 1983. His book How to Build a Small Brewery (1993) opened the door to the brewpub movement and he kind of reinvented Pumpkin Ale. Owens sold Buffalo Bill's in 1994 continuing to publish American Brewer Magazine which he sold in 2001. Owens used the proceeds from the magazine's sale to photograph America and this journey planted the seeds for his next venture, the American Distilling Institute, and Distiller Magazine. ADI was established in 2003 as a professional membership organization and publishing house to promote the art of craft distilling. Artifacts from Buffalo Bill's Brew Pub were acquired by the Smithsonian Institute and sit alongside Owens' photographs previously collected by the Smithsonian American Art Museum. He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship and two National Endowment for the Arts grants. Bill's current book is The Delco Years, a dystopian novel of life after a pandemic kills everyone but people who drink unpasteurized beer. He is also working on his memoir and a book of his collected poetry...
Fall is our fave time of year for both the fashion and the beer, and while last year we looked at all things Oktoberfest, this year Cee and Nate decided to focus exclusively on pumpkin beers. They scooped up every available pumpkin brew from the LCBO and cracked them all open to look at the different styles, approaches and offerings from fantastic breweries from across the province. With beers that range from blonde ales, amber ales, porters and stouts, there's a pumpkin beer for every palate and mood, all with varying degrees of adjuncts and spices. They got into Great Lakes Pumpkin Ale, Lake of Bays Pumpkin Ale, Grand River Highballer Pumpkin Ale, Flying Monkeys Theatre of Madness, Niagara Oast House Brewers Country Bumpkin, High Park Pumpkin Spice Latteale, Bobcaygeon Pumpkin Spice Latte, Whitewater Pumpkin Spice Espresso Porter, Big Rig Tales From The Patch, and a nice little bonus, Barncat Artisan Ales' Pumpkin Spice Rat Queen Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stout. Several years ago, beer experienced its “tulip mania” moment in the form of a pumpkin ale bubble. Many of those were bad—but that was the breweries' fault, not the style's. These should function like fun autumnal rituals. The new crop may bring you back.

We're not just about beers and cars though, we like a good laugh too. Get ready to chuckle as we share funny stories, jokes, and even reveal the most embarrassing songs on our phones. Disney's Prince of Persia was a bold endeavor. With a $185 million price tag, it shattered the ceiling for video game adaptation budgets. The House of Mouse made a bet, and it was a big one. Unfortunately, it was also a bad one. The Prince of Persia franchise is popular, but general audiences have rarely flocked to movies based on games. Thus, despite it being the most successful of the bunch—grossing $336.4 million worldwide—its receipts weren't enough to warrant a sequel. Poor reviews, 37% on Rotten Tomatoes, coupled with a soft domestic opening, under $91 million, doomed its franchise prospects. What it's really remembered for, though, is its bizarre decision to cast Jake Gyllenhall as the titular Prince of Persia. In fact, the majority of the major players are white, rendering this just another tone deaf Hollywood endeavor. Now, sit back, uncork a Pumpkin Ale, and hop on an ostrich! I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Capt. Cash, Mayor McCheese, and Chumpzilla are rewinding time to nudge the casting director for this film in a more appropriate direction. This Week's Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – Defy the Future. Its no joke! 2 years ago I made a killer wrapped pumpkin spice brie that could have easily been turned into amazing grilled cheese sandwiches Today we are not talking about PSL's aka Pumpkin spice lattes or some other modern pumpkinized foodity but rather one that dates back to 1771 . Get the pumpkins! Screamed the colonists Smash um! Squeeze um! Hop um! This actually happened... https://www.amazon.com/dp/0195367138/ref=as_sl_pc_tf_til?tag=iipodcast-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=54504bf91829ddf51871e4b54f1d9c6e&creativeASIN=0195367138 (Oliver) quotes a recipe: The recipe is entitled Receipe for pompion ale “Let the pompion be beaten in a trough and pressed as apples. The expressed juice is to be boiled in a copper a considerable time and carefully skimmed that there may be no remains of the fibrous part of the pulp. After that intention is answered let the liquor be hopped cooled fermented as malt beer. “ This recipe was published by the American philosophical society in Feb 1771 This recipe is almost like a pumpkin cider. If you break it down to its most basic elements Its essentially pumpkin juice that is hopped and fermented Not exactly sure when our modern version of pumpkin beer surfaced. Wikipedia says that The first commercially brewed pumpkin ale came from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_Bill%27s_Brewery (Buffalo Bill's Brewery) in Hayward, California, in the 1980s. This was part of the PSL- pumkin spice latte craze where everything started to become pumpkin spice more then actual pumpkin per
