On today's show: to tax or not to tax. Why that's the question political parties want Albertans to consider as they head to the polls. Linda Johnson and Ricardo Miranda join us; advanced voting kicks off today. We speak with Elections Alberta about how that works, and whether some voting districts will see their elections postponed due to wildfires; we hear from the lead singer of local pop-punk band Chixdiggit, who's hosting guided tours at the Punk Rock Museum in Las Vegas next month.

It's time to get stupendously moronic and insufferably jokey this week as we are joined by Mr Bruce Wingate of legendary New Jersey hardcore outfit, Adrenalin O.D! Bruce has a lot of information to pass over to us including the current status of the Rock n Roll Gas Station and lightening fast recording sessions. We share our UK Subs experiences, talk scientifically about pizza dough, Bruce's fascination with "Footy Scran" and the tongue in cheek ultra fast tunes of AOD. Seriously though, we talk a LOT about food for some reason.Tom's feet hurt, Niall's all about dat bass and we get a report from South America as part of the World Service. Apologies in advance to any South Africans.Songs for you this episode come from The Abs, Diaz Brothers, Debt Neglecter, Necromongo, Chixdiggit and 77 Spears.
THIS EPISODE RULES. PERIOD. Pat and I went to Fest 19. On the way there we got a chance to do our first ever show from the road together. Who better than legendary Canadian Punk Rocker, KJ Jansen. I've been a fan of this band for like 20 some years. Interestingly enough Chixdiggit is turning 31 years this year and they are celebrating this milestone at the AMAZING Bovine Sex Club. We cover a lot of ground (clearly marked in kilometers) in this episode. Some episodes, the stories flow slower than maple syrup in The Northwest Territories. Some episodes the stories are pile up higher than some Polar Park Beers before the Oilers crush it in the post season. Let me tell you my friends. This show is about 18 Polar Parks deep. Enjoy! Chixdiggit! and the Bovine Sex Club are both turning 30! Thirty years after forming a band based on t-shirts they made before ever picking up their instruments, Calgary's Chixdiggit still sounds like catchy summer tunes blasting from car windows. Specializing in three-minute songs that stick in your head for the next three weeks, Chixdiggit has always been more riff than raff. Their enthusiastic brand of post-punk pop is neither faded nor jaded. Revered as one of the city's greatest Rock'N'Roll landmarks due to its junk-encrusted exterior -- not to mention a hub for musicians and music fans worldwide the Bovine Sex Club (542 Queen St. W.) is one of the most loved and long-running music venues in Canada. In honor of reaching its 30th anniversary despite all the hurdles, it was decided it's time to celebrate and who better to do that with than Chixdiggit! as both ring in 30 years! Join in the celebration at the Bovine Sex Club with three big shows on November 4th, 5th, and 6th with two different bands joining them each night! 11/4: Wordplay, Black Cat Attack, Chixdiggit!11/5: Heavy Petter, School Damage, Chixdiggit!11/6: The Shivies, Bad Words , Chixdiggit! $20.00 in advance. Doors at 9 pm.Tickets @SHOWCLIX.COM

Happy Labor Day! Ever wonder why we have a Labor Day holiday in the USA and Canada? Wonder no more, here is the answer! I’ll cover the history behind Labor Day, a little of the history of the American Labor Movement and a bit about the rise and fall of Labor Unions in the USA up to current times. Hint - rich folks hate unions, because of course they do. Most rich folks throughout history seem to have issues with the people that made them rich, right? Let me talk to you about that and more in this episode! Songs are by Arthur Bell, Billy Liar, The Drowns and Chixdiggit. Yes, the songs are all about work. Bonus! The story and some thoughts of the folklore hero John Henry are also in this episode. Take it easy, crack open a cold one and let ME do all the work for a little bit.

How are you all doing on this Monday morning?? No, like seriously, how are you doing? Are you self-quarantining? Are you practicing social distancing? We’re living in some crazy times, but we all need to come together and just hang tight! You need to know how we feel about Hall and Oates, Nintendo Switch Lite, New Star Manager and Bokassa Crimson Riders. Show Notes Shane has a first basemen's glove for hands which aids him in craft beer drinking and pizza eating but also creates a need for a proper D-pad on his controllers. Therefore he may be in the market for a Nintendo Switch Lite later this year. Joel might be injured, according to a joint letter penned by Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony, due to tariffs causing a price increase on consoles sold in the United States. Not like a 2x4 to the knee injured though. Karl likes a little action in his football sims and enjoys opening a label flap to read about his beers while drinking them. He also contributed the recommended record in this episode that has hints of 90's thrash, Queens of the Stone Age and A Day To Remember. 0:02:37 Side A Video Games News: If you haven't yet purchased a Nintendo Switch, you've got some options incoming. Nintendo Switch Lite announced and it may have convinced Shane to pull the trigger and buy one. Current Switch model getting a new battery. Look for the red boxes starting around the middle of August. Tariffs could increase the price of consoles in the United States by 25%. Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft join teams to pen a letter asking their systems be excluded from the tariffs. Music photographer/blogger Dwayne Larson was all over Witchpolice in 2016. Starting with an appearance on the show as a guest in the spring, he returned as part of our photography panel show at the Handsome Daughter in the fall. He wasn't only a guest, though. Dwayne conducted interviews with a number of out-of-town and touring acts (Chixdiggit, Limblifter, Safe to Say, Son of Dave) for his It's A Music Thing website throughout the year, and he was kind enough to share the audio of those interviews for use on the podcast as well . Some of those interviews, due to episodes that were more time-sensitive, etc., didn't see the light of day on Witchpolice Radio... until now. Here's a compilation of short conversations Dwayne had with members of iconic '90s punks Face to Face, Canadian psychobillies the Creepshow, and up-and-coming New Orleans hardcore band Pears. All three were in Winnipeg at various times during the latter part of the year.

Both of them are celebrating a 25th year anniversary. In the podcast we talk about the early beginnings of bar ownership and band life. We also use sci-fi shows as analogies. It was a shorter than normal episode but there is some tidbits of magic in there. Please put your phone on silent, sit back and relax. Enjoy!! Brought to you in part by Audible.com. In keeping with episode three’s trawl through teenage punk rock nostalgia, this week’s episode is dedicated to Fat Wreck Chords featuring the likes of NoFx, The Lawrence Arms, Chixdiggit, Nerf Herder and a whole host of other goodness. We realise that most of these songs were released before 2005, so we’ll make up for it next week with loads of shiny new music. Some of it might even be British. Who knows. Once again direct all feedback to sourgrapespodcast@hotmail.co.uk

As regular listeners of this podcast will be well aware, we at Pucked in the Head believe that life isn’t solely about hockey. It’s also, occasionally, about hockey music.
