In every Live Christmas Nativity scene I wonder if the first two actors needing to be cast are Joseph and Mary? So today and tomorrow, let’s make them the focus of our Christmas question: “WHO are Christmas Joseph & Mary”? Let’s consider Joseph today and tomorrow we’ll look at Mary. The first page of the New Testament is both fascinating and boring, isn’t it? Matthew begins his Gospel account with a long list of names, perhaps you’ve skipped over those names many times in the past. But for Jews that list of names is priceless! POV Christmas, part 2
December 15, 2024Christmas - JosephUnto Us A Child Is Born
Characters of Christmas: Joseph of NazarethMatthew 1:18-2518 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.CONNECT WITH USIf you have any questions or would like to get to know us further, head over to https://www.triumphlbc.org/connect and fill out our online connection card.ABOUT TRIUMPHTriumph wants to see the life and message of Jesus transform your heart, home, and city. When God arranged for Jesus' arrival on earth, He didn't use rich kings, gifted scholars, or powerful influencers. Instead, God enlisted ordinary, blue-collar people. When we meet Joseph, a blue-collar carpenter who would become Jesus' earthly dad, how did Joseph prove he was the right man for the job? If God can use a regular guy like Joseph, what does that mean for someone like you? (Blue Collar Christmas, part 1)
December 8th, 2024 | Watch and Listen today! The post The Characters of Christmas | Joseph appeared first on Christ Point Church.
Today we look at Joseph, husband of Mary, and note that he is very much a part of the Christmas story. Matthew's gospel tells us about Joseph, a descendant of Abraham, and an honourable man. While we do not know much about him, we know that, in God's plans, he had an important role in the biblical story. We discover that Joseph must learn to align his life to God's plan, as he leads. Joseph is a man who lives in obedience to the Lord, as God revealed his plan to him. Joseph's resolve was to immediately follow the Lord's directions, as God used him to protect Mary and Jesus from Herod, and to see prophecy fulfilled. This is a truth every believer in Jesus, the Messiah, must learn. Passage: Matthew 1:18-25; 2:13-23 Preacher: Jim de Witte Support the show
In Matthew 1:18-25, we step into the shoes of Joseph, a man blindsided by life-altering news: Mary is pregnant before they are married—and he knows he isn't the father. Imagine the weight of shattered dreams, public scandal, and personal betrayal pressing down on him. Yet, in the chaos of his emotions, God intervenes with an extraordinary message, unveiling a divine purpose behind this unexpected turn of events. God calls Joseph to trust and obey. Joseph's decision to lean into faith rather than fear is a powerful example of courage in the face of uncertainty, reminding us that bad news can be a doorway to God's greater plan. How do we respond to life's trials and bad news? Will we cling to fear or step forward in faith, believing that God's plans—no matter how hard—are always for our ultimate good?
Welcome to Day 2289 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom The Characters of Christmas-1 Joseph, The Unsung Hero of Christmas – Daily Wisdom Putnam Church Message – 11/27/2022 The Characters of Christmas: Joseph, the Unsung Hero of Christmas Last week, we studied one of the most miraculous historical events in a message titled A Miraculous Resurrection. The focus was on the three essential principles of the resurrection: The resurrection of Jesus assures us of God's forgiveness. The resurrection of Jesus assures us of God's power. The resurrection assures us of God's ultimate triumph at the end of history. We will break from our series of the Good News according to John the Apostle, where we have three more messages to finish up the entire book of John. Starting today, we begin an Advent series exploring five characters of Christmas, beginning with Joseph, The Unsung Hero. Our scripture for today is Matthew 1:18-25, on page 1497 in the pew Bible. Follow along as I read. Joseph Accepts Jesus as His Son 18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about[a]: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet[b] did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[c] because he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” [d] (which means “God with us”). 24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage...

December 24, 2023 AM, Various. Our Scripture reading was Matthew 1:18ff Over the years, I have done a series of 'perspectives' messages on Christmas — Joseph, Mary, the shepherds, Simeon, Anna, now the angels. This has helped us to have a wholistic and Biblical perspective on the birth of Jesus.

The spirit of Christmas is often described with words like “holiday cheer” or “season's greetings” but what if Christmas could be a lot bigger than that? What if the Holy Spirit has more for your family this December? There are four divine encounters with angels that show us the spirit of Christmas is not just a time for eggnog and gift-wrap, but a Spirit pointing us to the reality of King Jesus.

We are continuing our Characters of Christmas series with today's guest Ross Lester. Ross is a friend of mine, he's the campus pastor at one of our locations of The Austin Stone Community Church, and he is no stranger to The Happy Hour. Ross was on Episode #375, and I'm excited to have him back to talk about Joseph, the father of Jesus' during His time spent on earth. Listen, you are in for a great episode! Ross and I talk about the relationship between Joseph and Jesus, and you guys, I'm really curious if Jesus gave Joseph a few secrets while they were working in the shop together. I wonder if they talked about all the daddy-son things. I ask Ross the same questions I have asked our previous guest during this series: How does Joseph point us back to Jesus, and what do we see about God's character through Joseph and Jesus' relationship? One thing I've never thought about that Ross mentioned is that when Mary, Joseph's fiance, comes to him saying she's pregnant as a virgin, Joseph could have immediately put her before the court. In that time, Mary would have been stoned to death publicly. But instead, Joseph is so Christ-like that he lives out the story of the woman caught in adultery in John 8, instead wanting to divorce Mary privately instead of having her tried. Ross says he believes Joseph wanted to release Mary and actually give her another opportunity to rebuild her life instead of being put to death. The Bible describes Joseph as a righteous man and we see that all throughout the Bible when his name is mentioned. Joseph models Christ by being obedient. He kept the law, which is all about mercy. He signs up to take on a child that's not his own biologically. He eventually has to move his young family to Egypt to protect Jesus. And Joseph is full of humility – he doesn't center himself in the story. I don't know about you, but my desire is to live a righteous life devoted to God like Joseph. After listening to today's episode, you are going to love Jesus more as you learn more about the people who surrounded him at His birth.Connect with JamieFacebook // Instagram // YouTubeGET ALL THE LINKS FROM THE SHOW HERE

While there are only a few verses that talk about him, his example is a powerful testimony of what God can do with someone who is faithful and doesn't need to be in the spotlight.Special Announcement: Christmas Eve Service will be at 4pm on December 24th. What's the story with Joseph? In this unscripted episode, I talk a little bit about Joseph and his role in the Christmas story. Although he says nothing, his actions speak volumes. The book I reference is called: The Forgotten Man of Christmas: Joseph's Story by Howard Edington. So while we talk about all the other parts of the Christmas story, don't forget about this extraordinary man.
