Amidst the busyness of the Christmas season, it can be hard to take the time to slow down and contemplate the breadth and depth of Jesus's birth. In today's episode, Trillia Newbell helps us do just that. Trillia is the author of numerous books, including Bible studies, children's books, and non-fiction titles, such as her latest book: Behold, The Lamb of God Has Come: Celebrating the 25 Days of Christmas Together. Trillia also supports other writers as the Acquisitions Director at Moody Publishers. In today's conversation, Trillia invites us to reflect on the character and work of Jesus, as well as how the Christmas story helps us persevere in faith amidst a broken world. Trillia also helps us see why societal beauty standards are unhelpful and, instead, invites us to embrace the beauty of diversity. My hope is that this conversation may open your mind and heart anew to the beauty and hope that the Christmas season brings.Buy Melissa L. Christmas is not just a celebration or a holiday. It is a day to remember the greatest gift the world has ever seen, the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas means that God loved us so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, so that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life. Jesus, without sin, came as a sacrifice for our sins to save us from separation from God. With the birth of Jesus, God showed His infinite love and mercy and provided an opportunity for humanity to be reconciled to God. Christmas reminds us that God is always faithful to His promises and that by sending Jesus Christ, He showed His presence among us.

When Christ was really born and what that birth should mean to us. The 1st part of the message is a study of the courses of the priests to determine when John the Baptist was born, and ultimately to the time of Christ's birth. The 2nd half is focused on the “fall and rising again of many...” We were chosen to be among those risen up by His coming and that is the best Christmas message we could ever receive. Have you ever noticed that every birth story is different? Some babies come fast, some slow. Some are birthed at home, others in hospitals. Each one unique. Exciting. Life-altering.This Sunday, we are studying one of the greatest birth stories ever — the birth of Jesus' Church. After weeks of waiting, the promised Spirit finally comes — and when He does, everything changes: God's people are filled with His presence, empowered for His mission, and sent with good news to the ends of the earth, starting in Jerusalem. This weekend, we continue our study through the book of Acts, seeing that this passage isn't a dry history lesson — no, if you're a Christian, this is your lineage, your story.
The biblical festival of Sukkot (also known as the Festivals of Tabernacles) is the biblical, typological, and theological setting for the birth of the babe born in Bethlehem. The early church knew this and, though it was later displaced with the syncretized holiday of Christmas, this biblical holy week, known simply as Tabernacles, has much to teach us about the dwelling presence of God and the incarnation of the Messiah. The Eternal Son of God came and took up a human tabernacle of flesh and blood in order to dwell with us! His name is Immanuel, God with us, in human flesh and blood! Hark! the herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King"! Join us as we explore the biblical setting and symbols of the birth of Jesus – God with us!
We are on week three of five for the Story of God. Our Sundays are shifted to accommodate more dialogue and reflection from everyone. Listen in as we wrestle through Exodus & the law, Kings & Prophets, and the birth of Jesus. Please note the audience responses could not be recorded. As the dialogue progresses, the speaker summarizes what the audience says.

In this Bible Story, we witness the humble birth of our hero, Jesus. Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem for the census, and Mary begins to go into labor. The Christ child is visited by shepherds, and a man of God named Simeon who prophesied that He would be the light of the world. This story is inspired by Matthew 1:18-25 & Luke 2:1-39. But when they got there the city was crowded and they had great trouble finding a place to stay. Finally settling in a stable, Mary gave birth to Jesus, and just as Jesus came to this Earth, God's messengers proclaimed His glory and mission to the shepherds in a nearby field. At once they hurried to find the Messiah and gazed upon him. Eight days later God fulfilled His promise to Simeon, as Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple to present the baby Jesus to God.Hear the Bible come to life as Pastor Jack Graham leads you through the official BibleinaYear.com podcast. Dr. Mitchell begins an exposition of the Gospel of Matthew starting chapter 1. The goal of Matthew in writing his gospel is to present Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham, the Son of God, the Son of Man.Dr. Mitchell points out the four women who were untypically included in Jesus' 14 generations of genealogy, with Mary being the fifth woman mentioned. Dr. Mitchell tells us of the birth of Jesus Christ. The doubt of Joseph and the conception of the savior through the virgin whose name was Mary is found here. Jesus, right at His birth, fulfilled the O.T. prophecy found in Isaiah 7. And here, the savior is given His human name, Jesus, being Immanuel, God with us who would save his people from their sins. Here is Dr. Mitchell, Matthew 1, on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.
The most foundational doctrine of Christianity is that Jesus was 100% God and 100% man. He is the son of God and the son of man. He was virgin born, conceived by the Holy Spirit. This does not mean God came down and was sexually intimate with Mary. It means it is a miraculous conception.Main Points:1. The virgin birth reveals the deity of Jesus. If Jesus is not God, then he could not save us. And if Jesus did not save you, you are still lost in your sins.2. Jesus was born as a man because he had to be a man to be our true representative on the cross. He had to be God because He is the only one capable of saving us.3. Do not let anyone tell you the doctrine of the virgin birth of Christ is not an essential belief. It is absolutely essential. The virgin birth of Jesus fulfills the prophecy and promise of God, and it reveals the deity of our Savior.Today's Scripture Verses:John 1:14 - “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”Isaiah 7:14 - “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

As we work through the Book of Isaiah, we are increasingly seeing Christ's kingdom come into focus. Today, we look at Isaiah 7, we're going to study a spectacular prophecy that we usually talk about the miraculous birth of Jesus and how we know that, indeed, Jesus is the long-awaited King of the Jews. DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. Verse 1 mentions King Ahaz? What was he and what kind of king was he? 2. In verses 1 & 2, what was the setting that was troubling Ahaz? What was Ahaz's response in verse 2? 3. What was the gist of the Lord's words for Ahaz in verse 4-9? Why do you think the Lord would have this message for Ahaz? 4. If the Lord were to give such a practical promise to you, what would be your response? From your study of the next few verses, what was Ahaz's response (specifically verse 12)? This seems like it might be a righteous response, why wasn't it? What in his character produced this kind of response? 5. What reply does the Lord give to Ahaz in verses 13 to 16? What was the gist of this prophecy? Who was the near fulfillment of this promise? Who is the ultimate fulfilment? How was He a fulfillment of these prophecies? 6. Read over the rest of this passage, what kinds of things does the Lord promise to Ahaz? Would these be fulfilled in Ahaz's days? According to the podcast, when would they be fulfilled? 7. The podcast mentions that Isaiah's son Shear-jashub means “the remnant shall return”. What might be the significance of Isaiah bringing Shear-jashub to this meeting with Ahaz and then giving these prophecies? 8. When you think of the desolation that Judah was going to experience, what kind of hope would these promises give to those people in the exile? What kind of hope does it give to us today? Diving deeper into Jesus Christ as Mystery, the Catechism describes the deep mystery in the preparations for Christ's coming—also known as Advent—as well as the mystery of his first coming in Christmas. Fr. Mike points to one of the last sentences of today's readings—”Only when Christ is formed in us will the mystery of Christmas be fulfilled in us”—and reminds us that Jesus is the star of the story, not us. Our goal is to become children in relation to God. “He must increase, but I must decrease.” Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 522-526. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. It all starts with the birth of Jesus. We'll look at this story in three parts: the conception, the delivery, and the baby. Today we'll talk about the conception. As we review this story, we'll look at 3 aspects: the lower story, what's happening right in the text and in the lives of the people; the upper story, the bigger picture of what God is trying to accomplish for His purposes; and the application to our lives, what God wants us to take away from this text.

TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome, dear ones, to the second day of January and day number 2 of our journey through the Bible. I'm Hunter, your host, bible reading coach, and brother in faith. Here at the Daily Radio Bible, we keep it simple: we read through the scriptures — the Old Testament once, and the New Testament twice every year — with the hope of being transformed by the God who is love. Today's readings are from Genesis chapters 3 through 5 and Luke chapter 2. We'll explore the fall of humanity, the story of Cain and Abel, and the birth of Jesus. Join us as we delve into these powerful passages and seek to be transformed by God's word and love. Let's embark on this journey together. Welcome! TODAY'S DEVOTION: You know, sometimes we think we have to get ourselves straightened out at least a little bit before we can expect God to come near to us or do anything for us. But that's not the gospel at all. We are the ones that run and hide from him. He's not the one who hides from us. No. He comes to us. In today's scripture, we see that Adam and Eve are banished from the garden. And oftentimes we read these passages, or at least they exist in our mind, in such a way that we think that they are banished because God is so holy that he can't stand to be in the presence of us or our sin, that somehow his holiness would be violated by being anywhere near us. But that's not what the scripture is saying, and that is not what God is doing. No. He is banishing Adam and Eve, but they are banished so that in their state of blindness and delusion that came over them when they agreed with the serpent and disobeyed God's instructions so that in that state, they would not do something that could not be undone. No. God is not so holy that he must separate himself from you. God has come to you just as you are. In your delusion, in your darkness, he comes. He comes to restore us, to cover us, to open our eyes. Just as we are, God comes to us, and that's the gospel. The holiness of God is a holy love, and that love is a consuming fire that purges all things that are not of love. And that holy love sent Jesus to the cross so that he would break the power of sin, so that our eyes could be opened, so that we might see who we are in him, what he's created us to be. We are his children, and he is a God who is with us. And that my friend is good news. And we can now live with him, participating with him in his great work of restoration of all things. And the news is so so good. It's better than we've ever thought. God has not banished us because he despises us. No. He has banished us so that he might find a way to restore us, and that is exactly what he's done. And God is not so holy that he despises you and cannot be in your presence. No. He loves you, and he has come to you just as you are. And the prayer of my own heart today is that I will understand these things and that I will experience the truth of it, and live in the joy of it. That's a prayer that I have for my own soul. That's a prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, and my daughters, and my son, and that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. Let's continue now in a time of prayer. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. It was a long-awaited night. Mary had waited nine months, but the waiting had started long ago. Throughout the Old Testament, the Prophets spoke of a coming Messiah. He would be a suffering servant that would save His people from their sins. Year after year the people waited for this coming Messiah. When would He come?Main Points:1. Jesus came at just the right time in God's redemptive plan when the world was perfectly prepared for God's work.2. Sadly, on the night of Christ's birth, it appears that no one was waiting or expecting His birth. Certainly, the Jewish religious leaders were not. As studious as they were of the Old Testament law, and the more than 300 prophecies of the coming Messiah, the religious establishment was not waiting.3. The over 300 Old Testament prophecies being fulfilled in Jesus assure us that He is the Son of God and the long-awaited Messiah.Today's Scripture Verses:Galatians 4:4-5 - “But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.”Micah 5:2 - “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel, whose origins are in the distant past, will come from you on my behalf.”Isaiah 7:14 - “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.”2 Samuel 7:12-13 - “When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.”Hosea 11:1 - “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.”Psalm 72:9-10 - “May the desert tribes bow before him and his enemies lick the dust. May the kings of Tarshish and of distant shores bring tribute to him. May the kings of Sheba and Seba present him gifts.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group
