It was right before she swept the GIA's at Imaging USA 2019 with her brilliant album of Aliens!! I loved her at first site, and it has only grown since then. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree in visual art from the @NNew Hampshire Institute of Art. She has also earned the professional photography degrees of Master Photographer, Master Artist, Craftsman, and Certified Professional Photographer from the Professional Photographers of America, and the Fellowship Degree and Educational Associate Degree from the American Society of Photographers. She won the 2019 Grand Imaging Award, the top prize in Professional Photographers of America international image competition, and was awarded the first prize GIA for her album "Most Wanted" and is nominated for another GIA for 2020. She has earned multiple Kodak Gallery Awards, Fuji Masterpiece Awards and Courts of Honor awards, and had the top scoring images in both the Artist and Illustrative categories in PPA's Northeast District competition and the top score in both the Artist and non-event album categories in PPA's International Competition. She has been a Diamond Photographer of the Year for the past 5 years. Carlson's work has been exhibited in a number of museums and galleries including: Danforth Museum, DeCordova Museum, the Wren Gallery, American Society of Photographers exhibit, Artistree Gallery, the Vermont Center for Photography, the New Hampshire Institute of Art, Professional Photographers of American International Exhibit, the Cove Gallery, and the Lowell Arts League Gallery. Her work has been published several times in Professional Photographers magazine and the PPA Loan Books and General Showcase books. Her book, "Fine Art Photoshop" will be published in early 2017. She has been teaching at the University of Mass, Lowell, since 1999. In addition, she teaches workshops in Photoshop and Corel Painter® for state and regional professional photography groups. She has also taught at New Hampshire Institute of Art, Middlesex Community College and DeCordova Museum.

Have ever wondered how digital illustrations are made? This video explains the basics. Help us keep making videos by supporting us in We try to leave jargon out of our videos, but if you want to learn more about this topic, here are some handy keywords to get your googling started: - A raster graphics image is a digital image made of a grid of pixels - Software able to edit raster graphics: Photoshop, Corel Painter, GIMP, Krita, etc. - GIMP is free and open-source. Check them at - Krita is also free and open-source. Check them at - Pixel Art is a form of digital art where images are edited on the pixel level. - Cross-stitch is a popular form of counted-thread embroidery in which X-shaped stitches in a tiled, raster-like pattern are used to form a picture. - Vector graphics images are made up of mathematical shapes and can be scaled as much as needed without loss in quality. - Software able to edit vector graphics: Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, Inkscape, etc. - Inkscape is free and open-source. Check them at - Jaggies is the informal name for artifacts in raster images, most frequently from aliasing. - Anti-aliasing is the technique of minimizing the distortion artifacts known as aliasing. - A graphics tablet is a computer input device that enables a user to hand-draw images with a special pen-like stylus, similar to the way a person draws images with a pencil and paper. - A clipping mask is an object whose shape masks other artwork so that only areas that lie within the shape are visible - Blend modes (or Mixing modes) in digital image editing are used to determine how two layers are blended into each other. First Story:  “Keeper of Memory” by Todd Lockwood Daen screamed until the monster’s teeth crushed ribs against ribs. Blood poured from his lungs, a bright flower unfurling  on the pavestones.  He bolted upright. A tree root scraped his back as he tried to crab backwards, but his feet were entangled in his blanket. He sat still, surprised to feel moss and short grass under the heels of his hands. A soft hush surrounded him, the landscape shrouded in fog that deadened sound and confused distance, rendering trees and stones into ghostly shadows ofbthemselves. Panting, he rubbed his face with pale fingers and blinked away the blur in his eyes. His sweat grew cold in the damp air.  Gods, what a dream! Winifred Whitfield has embraced a rich and varied life. After receiving Masters Degrees in Urban and Regional Planning and Social Work she became a Vice President on Wall Street.  Seeking a different life style, she moved from New York to the Northwest, purchased a little farm and thrived – though she continued to provide financial services to client.   She took a photography class when she needed photos of her llamas for her website and fell in love with this artistic expression. Her expertise grew quickly, competing successfully international print competitions.  She judged print competitions at the international level and taught Master Classes. After several years as a classic portrait photographer Winifred has become a passionate digital painter, with painting expertise in Corel Painter and Photoshop.  She is an educator, with an online store offering personalized painting workshops, “Almost One To One” and portrait painting tutorials, in addition to more than 50 painting tutorials on YouTube. She has received the Accolade of Lifetime Achievement from Wedding and Portrait Photographers International, the highest level of achievement granted by that organization, a Kodak Gallery Award, and a Perfect Print Award amongst others.  Her expertise is primarily in portrait painting, commissioned by her clients, but she enjoys fine art painting as well.
