Discovering Grayslake: Unveiling the Stories and People That Make Our Town Unique

Kristin Cashmore is the owner of Bella Vie Studio in Grayslake. She is highly involved in our community and I can't wait for you to learn more about her.  Hey there!  So you want to know a little bit about me...... I stumbled into the photography world 30 years ago when I took a job at a local photography studio shortly after graduating college. I knew nothing about photography but I had a strong desire to learn and a amazing mentor who was willing to teach me. In my beginning years at the studio, I learned so much and after a lot of hard work, I was able to receive the designation of Certified Professional Photographer from PPA (Professional Photographers of America). A few years later I achieved the designation of Master Photographer by entering my work into print competitions and studying with the best. Eventually I left the studio to start my own business and in 2008, Bella Vie Studio was born! My studio is in downtown Grayslake and I love being connected with many other small business owners who have quickly become friends. I also live in Grayslake with my husband, our three kiddos and our crazy puppies! What I love most about being a photographer is that I get to capture life as it happens. My sessions are very relaxed - we talk and play and have fun! Whether I'm being silly with preschoolers, talking with a high school Senior about the excitement college or celebrating with a newly married couple on their wedding day, I get the privilege of capturing moments in time - moments that will be relived and shared with future generations.  And for that I am so blessed and honored!

How To Have A Breakthrough In Dating And Business With Master Photographer Jeff Lubin

This week's guest is Jeff Lubin; he's a nationally known Master Photographer, keynote speaker, a leader in the business and photography world, and an expert in sales. He's also owned one of the most successful studios in the country for over 38 years. Jeff is my mentor and the reason I had my online dating breakthrough. He's also given me some of the best advice in my life. In this episode, we discuss the ways relationships are just like running a business. There are many similarities, like the importance of your brand, your value, networking, connections, down to supply and demand. We also discuss unwritten rules, navigating the highs and lows, and why we should remain confident in our abilities.  Jeff Lubin began with humble beginnings in a small studio with a window and a neon sign to becoming the leading portrait photographer in the Washington, D.C. area for nearly four decades. Some of his clients include Lynda Carter, Cal Ripken, Robert & Sheila Johnson, and Larry King. In 2017, The Lubin Studio was commissioned to create seven paintings to adorn the United States Court of Appeals for The Armed Forces work, which will display throughout history.  Jeff's style has won him many national and state awards. He earned the coveted Master of Photography Degree from Professional Photographers of American in 1992, after only three years of competition. The following year, he received his Craftsman Degree. Jeff's work has been featured in several issues of Rangefinder Magazine and The Professional Photographer. He has also published over 100 articles in photography. He's been a renowned keynote speaker at national and state conventions all over the globe. Jeff's style is one of the most emulated in the photography industry over the last quarter-century.Kerry Brett and Jeff Lubin cover a lot of ground, from photography, building a brand and successful business, to starting over with online dating. Topics include:How to create a household name brand. How to be relentless in your pursuit to the top.How to stand out in a crowd and be memorable. Why if you be your true authentic self, you will be more likable and relatable.Often people don't give themselves a chance or realize what makes them different or special is the very thing that will make them stand out in business or on these dating apps. Why true growth comes from the experiences you have and things not working out.Why having a never quit mentality is the reason behind an entrepreneur's success. Why limiting beliefs keep us stuck in our current situation, either staying in a job that makes you unhappy or in the area of our love lives. You are what you think and how thoughts expand. If you can change your thinking you can change your reality. What you resist persists, and if you are doing the same patterns repeatedly and things are working, that is the definition of insanity. To find out more about Jeff Lubin go to www.jefflubin.com. or join 10,000 photographers ib his Facebook group Jeff Lubin's Portrait and Business  Tip of the Day and on Instagram @j_lubin. Kimberly Simonetti is an award winning Master Photographer who specialized in romantic portraits. WIth their individual skills these two found a matchmade in business heaven! The perfect duo to help those Rubber Duckies out there looking for love. Nicky and Manny know way too many great people who are single, and they just can't figure out why! One of the gem these ladies dropped was that some people just have way too many unrealistic standards, and bending on some of those "standards" doesn't mean you are settling. The women speak on clients who come in as a 4 thinking that they are going to get a 10! They shared a story about a recent speed dating event where a gentleman was taken back by a woman, who just wasn't into him. After some persuading, Tammy and Kimberly talked their client into giving that guy a chance. The end result... She could not be more smitten with the guy! The hosts also relay to Kimberly and Tammy, they know a couple of people who are very much entangled in the lives of their exes. Nicky wondered how would it be possible for them to move on if this is their situation. Tammy plain and simply said "if that is the case, they are not ready to move on." They also suggested that in order to really move on it has to be on their terms and when they are ready, but it will be difficult if they continue to allow their lives to be heavily influenced by an ex. Nicky also points out that it would also lead to an awkward dating life for a potential new partner. If you want to know more about these matchmaking angels, check out their website at www.thematchpro.com. Let’s keep this conversation going: what do you think about matchmakers? It was developed and built by Sunwood Homes.  This place is absolutely epic and Shawn Stallard from Chaparral Visuals talked to us about what he does in his day-to-day process. He’s probably done hundreds of home photography sessions for us and he shoots around 20 homes per week.  Shawn takes anywhere from 60 to 80 pictures of each home and we take the 20 to 30 best ones to put online. Working with a professional photographer is such a luxury. Shawn knows exactly what he needs to do to capture homes in their best light and he does a fantastic job. His background is in architectural photography and he has a keen sense of using light. “Having professional photography is a luxury.” If you have any questions for Shawn, give him a call at (435) 321-9016. Today he and Luci discuss how to find and qualify new clients through Facebook advertising, how to find your perfect client, and how to not waste time or giveaway your services to people who won't become clients. In this episode, Luci and Andrew discuss: Learning from what other successful photographers have done, not just in their shooting style, but also their business acumen You have to create an experience for your clients, it's not just about your photos Find your perfect client and offer them something of value to start to create a relationship Be transparent and don't be afraid to scare people off, you don't want every client If you hope to make a living with photography, you have to focus on the business, not just the art If you are offering a giveaway, make sure you are pre-qualifying them before offering your services With a Facebook ad- The headline and the photo are both equally important, they both need to stop your potential client from scrolling past Facebook Pixels are an amazing way to track and target potential clients "Success in business as a photographer is more about the business of marketing than the photography, or being the photographer that stands out among the crowd in regards to having their own style." —  Andrew Hellmich Special Gift! David Edmonson has been called a “Master Photographer to Master Photographers” and with good reason. With over 40 years in the industry, the indelible impact David Edmonson leaves with clients, students and peers around the world is remarkable. No doubt, his signature style is unmistakable. But it’s his “Iron-Sharpens-Iron” philosophy that has fueled his art and professional success. A relentless pursuit of excellence through competition. Selfless mentorship. A hands-on benevolence with his passionate charities. Simply put, the “Edmonson Way” means that giving is a both a privilege and a path to self-improvement; for himself and those he encounters. David, is a Grand Master Photographer of WPPI, was bestowed with WPPI’s Lifetime Achievement the organizations highest honor. It’s often said that Art Imitates Life. If you’ve ever seen the work of David Edmonson, this is clearly true: “Profound with dimensionality, ingrained with emotion and compelling in their beauty." (http://www.wimmerphotography.com/home) Enjoy this episode Meet Ron, I can’t remember when I didn’t carry a camera. I’ve been inspired by images and art my entire life. My Uncle Ray got me interested in photography when I was about ten or twelve years old and continued to water that seed. Photography was a hobby of his and he enjoyed sharing it with me.  He set me up with a makeshift dark room in my parent’s basement and taught me how to process and print in black & white. Thanks to him, I have been creating images ever since. During high school, I realized I wanted to pursue photography for a living.  After graduation, I joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a Naval Photographer for five years. I traveled the world via an aircraft carrier and photographed everywhere we went – from land, sea and air!  (http://www.wimmerphotography.com/home) After completing my service in the Navy, I finished my photography degree and opened my original studio in San Diego. I moved back to Milwaukee in 1994 to be closer to family and friends.  I feel incredibly fortunate that I get to follow my passion – photographing people. I have served as President of the South Eastern Professional Photographers Association and am a Member of the Wisconsin Professional Photographers Association.  Currently, I am working on my Master Photographer’s Degree. 3 Key Points: Eat the Frog Capture Spectacular Moments Do the work How to get in touch with Ron Web Site Wimmer Photography (http://www.wimmerphotography.com/home) Phone 414-258-2700   Sponsors (https://www.facebook.com/RobertDKochanski/) At Home Solutions Realty we provide you with a detailed solution for all your Real Estate needs. The people and their story is what matters Great moments in life are meant to be created Stop looking for light and start looking for shadow The shift between highlight and shadow is what creates depth Most amateurs underexpose their photos. I don't know why. Expose for the highlight. If your subjects face is underexposed your lighting is wrong. Often times people make photography overcomplicated. Luke Edmonson invites you, Photographer, to study under a living Master: David Edmonson. Luke explains the exhilarating 3-year project that's allowing David to create his finest work ever! You are now hereby invited to join him. Who is David Edmonson? In Luke's own words: Over the next 365 days x 3 years = ART1095 project enables you to witness the creation of a modern masterpiece. While David Edmonson is not the first photographer to create homage pieces to past Master Artists, he is the most recent and arguably most relevant. David Edmonson is known as a “Master Photographer to Master Photographers” and with good reason. Photography has long been a part of our family's legacy. It started as my father and grandfather working as professional photographers in our hometown of Dallas, TX. Today it's the two of us. My dad honed his skills and built his roots over the past 40+ years of commercial photography shooting magazines, books, CD covers, and annual reports. In the days of film, one of the crafts he perfected is in camera-artistry. Before the days of digital and Photoshop, anything you wanted to create in a photograph was done through building sets, lighting the scene and a single frame of film. ______________________ Today's episode of The PhotoTellers explains the "1,000 day project," now named the ART1095 Project. Learn about the phases of creating art: From imitating, emulating, then creating. Hear what's most exciting about David's current work. Understand why David spends meticulous time creating depth with precisely the right elements. You may wonder, as I did, "Is my time studying with David practical for my own photographic development?" Hear Luke's insightful response, an answer that applies to any area of personal growth. Learn more about working with David and Luke Edmonson by clicking the logo below.
