If you appreciate this work, consider supporting it - https://www.patreon.com/seekgodtogether Today we will read portions of Job 1:1-5 which says “There was a man in the country of Uz named Job. He was a man of perfect integrity, who feared God and turned away from evil. He had seven sons and three daughters. Job was the greatest man among all the people of the east. His sons used to take turns having banquets at their homes. Whenever a round of banqueting was over, Job would send for his children and purify them, rising early in the morning to offer burnt offerings for all of them. For Job thought: perhaps my children have sinned having cursed God in their hearts. This was Job's regular practice. Did you know that Job is the oldest book in the bible? It's true. When it was written there was no bible. There was no Judaism. There was no church. There was no law. There was no knowledge of Jesus. And yet this great man, this honorable man, this rich man, would rise early in the morning to offer sacrifices to God on behalf of his children. What rule instructed him? What religion? None. Something inside of Job compelled him to seek God. And not only to seek God, but to make amends for sin. It was so obvious to Job that this was worship. He also knew that it was the sacrifice, or his children that would pay for their sin. Overlay this story with Proverbs 14:9 which says “Fools mock at making amends to sin…” Job was no fool. He took worship seriously. In fact his worship was build on the idea of thoroughly dealing with sin. Nothing has changed. Well that's not exactly true. God's self-disclosure has changed - we know more. He's shown us more. He's revealed Jesus, and Jesus has become our burnt offering. Fundamentally though, worship still looks the same. It's always the sacrifice that takes our sin. And fools mock the idea. “God, I don't need a religion, a pastor, or even a bible to demonstrate that I need a sacrifice. But I'm grateful that You have taken all the responsibility on Yourself in Jesus. You are my sacrifice. You make me right with You. And in light of that - I worship You.” --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

50 years ago, television manufacturer Magnavox launched a revolutionary new device that allowed users, for the first time, to manipulate the images on their home television sets.  How did this technological wonder come to be?  How did its development evolve?  Find out with our own resident Warden of the Department of Corrections, Ethan Johnson.   Links: https://www.mobygames.com/game/super-breakout/cover-art/gameCoverId,20988/ https://restaurant-ingthroughhistory.com/2014/07/13/the-browning-of-mcdonalds/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnavox_Odyssey https://twitter.com/j_ljunggren/status/1573688288661180416 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakout_(video_game) https://thehistoryofhowweplay.wordpress.com/2022/09/16/the-first-video-game-console-a-new-history/   Timeline: August 31, 1966 - Baer conceptualizes the TV Gaming Display.     -He was supposedly in New York and was meeting somebody before going back up to New Hampshire.   September 1, 1966 - “Disclosure Backup DATA - TVGD” is drafted by Ralph Baer, witnessed by Bob Solomon.     -Game types: Action games, board games, artistic games, instructional games, board chase games     -”Example: ‘Steering' a wheel to control random drift of color (hue) over the CRT face”     -Pumping game mentioned     -”Bar, line, or dot generation - players control selective blanking, blinking, color coding of lines, bars, dots, fields via generator”   September 6, 1966 - TV Mode Data Entry Device, witnessed by Bob Solomon, Baer mocks up a schematic of the basic technical idea of driving signals to the screen.     -”Etch-a-sketch” drawing gives misleading impression of the vision of the system at present   December 1966 - Mocking up of screen splitting   December 20, 1966 - Herbert Campman approves the exploration of TVGD, “NBDA - Low Cost TV Data Entry Devices”     -$2000 for development, $500 for materials   January 2, 1967 - Robert Solomon joins “TVTY - NBD”     -His mockups show the screen split into even grids via an overlay or of two lines crossing each other like a cursor   February 6, 1967 - Robert Tremblay writes a schematic.   February 11, 1967 - “Discussion w/ R. It's a deep conversation to get ready to be challenged, get a little uncomfortable but also be given an opportunity to grow, heal and learn if you listen with a teachable heart. My friend Kim and I chat about something called an overlay. If you don't know what an overlay is, they are expectations and social norms placed on you to show up in a certain way to the world, even within the perimeters of a church communityYou'll hear us talk about in this episode:How overlays can cause mistyping with the enneagramWhy you don't have to apologize for having the personality you doExpectations in the church for women to act a certain wayWhy being Christ like is NOT just acting like an Enneagram 2The harm of trying to show up as a personality that isn't yoursWhy making someone uncomfortable with your personality isn't wrongThe struggles different Enneagram types feel being themselves in the churchRegister for the 2nd Free Wholehearted Summit here!Connect with Kim online:WebsiteInstagramConnect with Amy online:WebsiteInstagram

New ep is up! An interview with Samuel Evan Milner, economic historian and author of Robbing Peter to Pay Pau: Power, Profits, and Productivity in Modern American. Mr. Milner has a degree in history from Harvard, master's degrees in history and philosophy from Yale, a PhD in history from Yale, and more recently, a J.D. from University of Chicago Law School. Think about how much inflation generally and wage inflation specifically are in the news today. Overlay 900 lb corporate gorillas, and you understand the relevance of this story from the last century to today's environment. From the back jacket: “Concentrated market power and the weakened sway of corporate stakeholders over management have emerged as leading concerns of American political economy. Samuel Milner provides a historical context for contemporary efforts to resolve these anxieties by examining the contest to control the distribution of corporate income during the mid-twentieth century. During this “Golden Age of American Capitalism,” apprehension about the debilitating consequences of industrial concentration fueled efforts to ensure that management would share the fruits of progress with workers, consumers, and society as a whole. Focusing particularly on wage and price determination in steel, automobiles, and electrical equipment, Milner reveals how the management of concentrated industries actually understood its ability to distribute income to its stakeholders as well as why economists, courts, and public policymakers all struggled to curtail the exercise of that market power at its source.” Buy the book here, and follow Samuel on Linkedin here. 148 You Reek of Stress

Authentic Conversations with Andy Mason

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 16, 2022 21:39

My 19 year old just walked into where I was looking at my phone (again) for houses for sale. She sat down and said "Dad, you reek of stress." Wow. Solid feedback that was not fun. I thought I was hiding it better than that. If she can 'smell' the stress then obviously it's more than I think. Reek - "to smell strongly and unpleasantly; stink." I guess I need some more stress-work. So what will I do? Here's the context: We are now in the Pocono mountains in an Air BnB that is confirmed until June 30... that's two weeks from today. It's supposed to be relaxing. BUT we haven't found a home yet and when we asked the family last week to ask Jesus if we are to find another short term place the unanimous answer was 'No.' We have three dogs, a truck-load of household items still in transit that is supposed to land somewhere, and a word from God. We also have one daughter working remotely, one supposed to start work in-person 1 July and two kids needing all their details sorted for new college and high school. Overlay that with my business commitments and planning for the next six months... I already spent at least 30 minutes going over (again) what God had said and that was encouraging... sort of. It feels more like God says "Jump and I will catch you," except you are now free falling and it doesn't look like He has even moved into position. I have two major temptations: 1. Make it happen - find a house that 'will do' or secure a 3-6 mth rental. Problem is that is going against what we all heard God say. That's called disobedience and I have five other people in this household that won't go with that option. 2. Make it go away - live in denial and avoidance and hide from the pain of the in-between. That's just not going to work when we have a calendar deadline. AND I have five other people in the household that won't go with that option either. So what do I do? A) Learn about trust. Let go my understanding (control). Trust means to cast my cares onto someone or something AND it is not foolish, reckless confidence (Proverbs 14:16 NLT). So it is a partnership, a relationship, an interaction and involves doing my part in the process. What's my part? Ask Holy Spirit and follow your conviction, not your fear. B) Cry... out for help Pray Psalm 20 (and the rest of the Psalms!). Listen for your voice in the voice of the Psalms. When it aligns, camp there and listen for what the Lord is saying to you. Write it down. Do it. C) Worship What else can we do? 2 Chronicles 20:12 "we don't know what to do but our eyes are on you." This is probably number one in priority.

We find out if politicians are following the Lighthouses's advice on the importance of making their website accessible as we approach the Mid-term elections.   Virginia then walks us through one outstanding example of a case where The Florida Division of Blind Services really excelled.   We then discuss the differences between working with younger and older visually impaired and blind individuals.   We discuss policy of government agencies, and the Lighthouse, and how important tackling the mental health side of blindness needs to be.   Virginia then explains to us some of the non-technical services that the Miami Lighthouse offers.   We find out how and who is eligible for services from the Miami Lighthouse.   There are several ways to keep up with the Miami Lighthouse. Simon reads the Bible

Exodus 30 NLT read aloud by Simon MacFarlane. 1 “Then make another altar of acacia wood for burning incense. 2 Make it 18 inches square and 36 inches high, with horns at the corners carved from the same piece of wood as the altar itself. 3 Overlay the top, sides, and horns of the altar with pure gold, and run a gold molding around the entire altar. 4 Make two gold rings, and attach them on opposite sides of the altar below the gold molding to hold the carrying poles. 5 Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. 6 Place the incense altar just outside the inner curtain that shields the Ark of the Covenant, in front of the Ark's cover—the place of atonement—that covers the tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant. I will meet with you there. 7 “Every morning when Aaron maintains the lamps, he must burn fragrant incense on the altar. 8 And each evening when he lights the lamps, he must again burn incense in the Lord's presence. This must be done from generation to generation. 9 Do not offer any unholy incense on this altar, or any burnt offerings, grain offerings, or liquid offerings. 10 “Once a year Aaron must purify the altar by smearing its horns with blood from the offering made to purify the people from their sin. This will be a regular, annual event from generation to generation, for this is the Lord's most holy altar.” 11 Then the Lord said to Moses, 12 “Whenever you take a census of the people of Israel, each man who is counted must pay a ransom for himself to the Lord. Then no plague will strike the people as you count them. 13 Each person who is counted must give a small piece of silver as a sacred offering to the Lord. (This payment is half a shekel,[e] based on the sanctuary shekel, which equals twenty gerahs.) 14 All who have reached their twentieth birthday must give this sacred offering to the Lord. 15 When this offering is given to the Lord to purify your lives, making you right with him, the rich must not give more than the specified amount, and the poor must not give less. 16 Receive this ransom money from the Israelites, and use it for the care of the Tabernacle. It will bring the Israelites to the Lord's attention, and it will purify your lives.” 17 Then the Lord said to Moses, 18 “Make a bronze washbasin with a bronze stand. Place it between the Tabernacle and the altar, and fill it with water. 19 Aaron and his sons will wash their hands and feet there. 20 They must wash with water whenever they go into the Tabernacle to appear before the Lord and when they approach the altar to burn up their special gifts to the Lord—or they will die! 21 They must always wash their hands and feet, or they will die. This is a permanent law for Aaron and his descendants, to be observed from generation to generation.”

Simon reads the Bible

Exodus 27 NLT read aloud by Simon MacFarlane. 1 “Using acacia wood, construct a square altar 7 1⁄2 feet wide, 7 1⁄2 feet long, and 4 1⁄2 feet high. 2 Make horns for each of its four corners so that the horns and altar are all one piece. Overlay the altar with bronze. 3 Make ash buckets, shovels, basins, meat forks, and firepans, all of bronze. 4 Make a bronze grating for it, and attach four bronze rings at its four corners. 5 Install the grating halfway down the side of the altar, under the ledge. 6 For carrying the altar, make poles from acacia wood, and overlay them with bronze. 7 Insert the poles through the rings on the two sides of the altar. 8 The altar must be hollow, made from planks. Build it just as you were shown on the mountain. 9 “Then make the courtyard for the Tabernacle, enclosed with curtains made of finely woven linen. On the south side, make the curtains 150 feet long. 10 They will be held up by twenty posts set securely in twenty bronze bases. Hang the curtains with silver hooks and rings. 11 Make the curtains the same on the north side—150 feet of curtains held up by twenty posts set securely in bronze bases. Hang the curtains with silver hooks and rings. 12 The curtains on the west end of the courtyard will be 75 feet long, supported by ten posts set into ten bases. 13 The east end of the courtyard, the front, will also be 75 feet long. 14 The courtyard entrance will be on the east end, flanked by two curtains. The curtain on the right side will be 22 1⁄2 feet long, supported by three posts set into three bases. 15 The curtain on the left side will also be 22 1⁄2 feet long, supported by three posts set into three bases. 16 “For the entrance to the courtyard, make a curtain that is 30 feet long. Make it from finely woven linen, and decorate it with beautiful embroidery in blue, purple, and scarlet thread. Support it with four posts, each securely set in its own base. 17 All the posts around the courtyard must have silver rings and hooks and bronze bases. 18 So the entire courtyard will be 150 feet long and 75 feet wide, with curtain walls 7 1⁄2 feet high, made from finely woven linen. The bases for the posts will be made of bronze. 19 “All the articles used in the rituals of the Tabernacle, including all the tent pegs used to support the Tabernacle and the courtyard curtains, must be made of bronze. 20 “Command the people of Israel to bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to keep the lamps burning continually. 21 The lampstand will stand in the Tabernacle, in front of the inner curtain that shields the Ark of the Covenant. Aaron and his sons must keep the lamps burning in the Lord's presence all night. This is a permanent law for the people of Israel, and it must be observed from generation to generation.

Simon reads the Bible

Exodus 26 NLT read aloud by Simon MacFarlane. 1 “Make the Tabernacle from ten curtains of finely woven linen. Decorate the curtains with blue, purple, and scarlet thread and with skillfully embroidered cherubim. 2 These ten curtains must all be exactly the same size—42 feet long and 6 feet wide. 3 Join five of these curtains together to make one long curtain, then join the other five into a second long curtain. 4 Put loops of blue yarn along the edge of the last curtain in each set. 5 The fifty loops along the edge of one curtain are to match the fifty loops along the edge of the other curtain. 6 Then make fifty gold clasps and fasten the long curtains together with the clasps. In this way, the Tabernacle will be made of one continuous piece. 7 “Make eleven curtains of goat-hair cloth to serve as a tent covering for the Tabernacle. 8 These eleven curtains must all be exactly the same size—45 feet long and 6 feet wide. 9 Join five of these curtains together to make one long curtain, and join the other six into a second long curtain. Allow 3 feet of material from the second set of curtains to hang over the front of the sacred tent. 10 Make fifty loops for one edge of each large curtain. 11 Then make fifty bronze clasps, and fasten the loops of the long curtains with the clasps. In this way, the tent covering will be made of one continuous piece. 12 The remaining 3 feet of this tent covering will be left to hang over the back of the Tabernacle. 13 Allow 18 inches of remaining material to hang down over each side, so the Tabernacle is completely covered. 14 Complete the tent covering with a protective layer of tanned ram skins and a layer of fine goatskin leather. 15 “For the framework of the Tabernacle, construct frames of acacia wood. 16 Each frame must be 15 feet high and 27 inches wide, 17 with two pegs under each frame. Make all the frames identical. 18 Make twenty of these frames to support the curtains on the south side of the Tabernacle. 19 Also make forty silver bases—two bases under each frame, with the pegs fitting securely into the bases. 20 For the north side of the Tabernacle, make another twenty frames, 21 with their forty silver bases, two bases under each frame. 22 Make six frames for the rear—the west side of the Tabernacle— 23 along with two additional frames to reinforce the rear corners of the Tabernacle.24 These corner frames will be matched at the bottom and firmly attached at the top with a single ring, forming a single corner unit. Make both of these corner units the same way. 25 So there will be eight frames at the rear of the Tabernacle, set in sixteen silver bases—two bases under each frame. 26 “Make crossbars of acacia wood to link the frames, five crossbars for the north side of the Tabernacle 27 and five for the south side. Also make five crossbars for the rear of the Tabernacle, which will face west. 28 The middle crossbar, attached halfway up the frames, will run all the way from one end of the Tabernacle to the other. 29 Overlay the frames with gold, and make gold rings to hold the crossbars. Overlay the crossbars with gold as well.[...]

Simon reads the Bible

Exodus 25 NLT read aloud by Simon MacFarlane. 1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Tell the people of Israel to bring me their sacred offerings. Accept the contributions from all whose hearts are moved to offer them. 3 Here is a list of sacred offerings you may accept from them: gold, silver, and bronze; 4 blue, purple, and scarlet thread; fine linen and goat hair for cloth; 5 tanned ram skins and fine goatskin leather; acacia wood; 6 olive oil for the lamps; spices for the anointing oil and the fragrant incense; 7 onyx stones, and other gemstones to be set in the ephod and the priest's chestpiece. 8 “Have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them. 9 You must build this Tabernacle and its furnishings exactly according to the pattern I will show you. 10 “Have the people make an Ark of acacia wood—a sacred chest 45 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 27 inches high. 11 Overlay it inside and outside with pure gold, and run a molding of gold all around it. 12 Cast four gold rings and attach them to its four feet, two rings on each side. 13 Make poles from acacia wood, and overlay them with gold. 14 Insert the poles into the rings at the sides of the Ark to carry it. 15 These carrying poles must stay inside the rings; never remove them. 16 When the Ark is finished, place inside it the stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant, which I will give to you. 17 “Then make the Ark's cover—the place of atonement—from pure gold. It must be 45 inches long and 27 inches wide. 18 Then make two cherubim from hammered gold, and place them on the two ends of the atonement cover. 19 Mold the cherubim on each end of the atonement cover, making it all of one piece of gold. 20 The cherubim will face each other and look down on the atonement cover. With their wings spread above it, they will protect it. 21 Place inside the Ark the stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant, which I will give to you. Then put the atonement cover on top of the Ark. 22 I will meet with you there and talk to you from above the atonement cover between the gold cherubim that hover over the Ark of the Covenant. From there I will give you my commands for the people of Israel. 23 “Then make a table of acacia wood, 36 inches long, 18 inches wide, and 27 inches high. 24 Overlay it with pure gold and run a gold molding around the edge. 25 Decorate it with a 3-inch border all around, and run a gold molding along the border. 26 Make four gold rings for the table and attach them at the four corners next to the four legs. 27 Attach the rings near the border to hold the poles that are used to carry the table. 28 Make these poles from acacia wood, and overlay them with gold. 29 Make special containers of pure gold for the table—bowls, ladles, pitchers, and jars—to be used in pouring out liquid offerings. 30 Place the Bread of the Presence on the table to remain before me at all times. 31 “Make a lampstand of pure, hammered gold. Make the entire lampstand and its decorations of one piece—the base, center stem, lamp cups, buds, and petals. 32 Make it with six branches going out from the center stem, three on each side. [...]

In this episode we're diving into the most requested interior topic—kitchens! We've all soaked up the gorgeous gleaming and pristine kitchens on Pinterest and in design magazines and blogs….but how do those really hold up when you're actually cooking, living, and moving in the space? Well, one of the most important things when it coming to designing a kitchen that's as useful as it is beautiful is the cabinets. When you're picking out your cabinets, you want to think about accessibly and how you'll use them. We recommend having drawers on the lower cabinets, so you can access the back of the cabinet storage space easily and don't need to crouch down as much. If you want to store dishware in the drawers, many cabinet makers offer great wooden peg drawers that allow you to customize the storage space of the drawer to fit your exact dishware. If you have frequently used appliances like a coffee machine, toaster, or microwave, and don't want them out visible on the counter all the time, you also might want to consider getting an appliance garage cabinet. This is a cabinet that rests on your countertop but is set back so that there is a bit of usable counter space in front of the cabinet. Vertical slats are also really useful for kitchen storage for large but flat items like cookie sheets and cutting boards. In terms of overall kitchen layout, you want to give at least 40 inches between the island and the cabinets so that there is enough room for someone to walk by when you have your dishwasher door or cabinet door open. It's also important to think about the “kitchen work triangle”, which is the distance and trail between the sink, oven, and refrigerator. You really want that walkway to be as simple and accessible as possible, and minimize any awkward objects in the way. We're diving into LOTS more kitchen information in the episode including undermount vs overmount sinks, allll the types of kitchen countertops and which are the most durable, and much more, so make sure to tune in https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/feels-like-home/id1607395621 (HERE) + soak up all the useful kitchen tidbits to make the most of your space! My name is Sarita and I am trained in the ancient Shamanic teachings of The Lyceum. This channel will help you to transcend the ordinary and realize the truth of who you are as quantum, vibrational being moving into 5D consciousness. I believe everyone has the potential to have extraordinary, wonderful and uplifting, heart aligned lives if we can understand that we are all part of source consciousness and are creating our realities in every now moment. We have the capacity to become entirely present and manifest from the quantum field of infinite potential through the zero point technology of our inner being, including and not limited to; our energy centres/chakras,  the cells, atoms and quantum particles of our bodies, our nervous and endocrine systems and our pineal glands. This self actualization is accessed by us in many ways and principally through meditation. Therefore I teach meditation in an entirely new and creative way, collating information directly from the source field and expressing to you, often in a raw and pure format without any pre-design. I also share my human perspective as well as ancient information including ways to create ceremony for yourself in this modern world which give you practical tools to be able to transcend matter, manifest your dreams, heal and become heart centered. My aim is to give you all as much information as I can for free on this channel so that you too can become the master of your own reality.

When you think of the good ole days what do you think of? If you are a poker player, you think about the days of Full Tilt, poker on every TV channel, loosing your whole bank roll in one night, and the epic come back from a $5 re-buy tournament win.  The good ole days of poker do not belong to the Wild Bill Hickock's or Doc Holiday's of the world, but to the men and women playing poker in their basements from 2005-2010! If you are enjoying our show please subscribe and leave us a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts. How's That Working For You?

Some of the most seasoned, well-known and impactful teachers of enneagram wisdom in the world today have shared that they went for a significant period of time in their early enneagram journey thinking they were a different ennea-type than the one they eventually came to fully know as their home space. From Ginger Lapid-Bogda to Helen Palmer to Russ Hudson to you or someone you know, this dynamic occurs more than we might think. In some cases it has been because a teacher or authority figure (incorrectly) declared to a person that they were a specific type. Sometimes the incorrect type can come from an enneagram “test” result; the ability of tests and profiles as a whole to reveal correct type for a given test-taker is estimated to be perhaps no better than approximately 60%. In other cases mis-typing can result from any number of what are termed “contextual” or "overlay” factors. Contextual factors might include trying to discover one's type during a time of heavy stress, deep emotional turmoil or when an individual is immersed in a long-term caregiving role. Overlay factors might include family of origin influences, cultural norms, gender-based stereotypes, and even 'type-envy' or 'type-aversion' overlays where an individual either admires a person of a certain type (or the positive attributes of that type) so much they unconsciously make themselves be that type (admiration), or, they cannot stand an individual of that type (or the type's negative attributes) so much that refuse to believe they could be that type themselves (aversion). On this episode of How's That Working For You we get to hear one story of mis-typing as Cindy Barksdale shares a bit of her journey as a female ennea-type Eight and some of the factors that hid her beautifully powerful Eight-ness from her and those closest to her. We get to hear real-life examples of how some of those contextual and cultural overlays not only hid her type, but also shaped her persona and caused some suffering along the way. We also listen in as Cindy shares how learning to become vulnerable (huge for Eights) in the sanctuary of 12 Step groups and sponsorship opened her up for deeper work with the wisdom of the enneagram, deeper relationships, and, deeper blessing flowing to others from her life's passion. Plus some possible insight as to why some of you are hooked on Assassin's Creed! Make your guess now - before you listen to our interview with Cindy - which number our fabulous Eight was mis-typed as. (No cheating

Thank you for listening. Check out more at www.seekGodtogether.com Today we will read portions of Job 1:1-5 which says “There was a man in the country of Uz named Job.
