Davis is one of the leading lights of independent comic-book and graphic novel publishers. He has masterminded several very successful comic book ventures including 10th Muse, Legend of Isis and Insane Jane. The latter is currently in production as a major television program. Davis, as the president of TidalWave Publishing (formerly BlueWater Productions), has developed several iconic titles over the past nearly 20 years including The 10th Muse for Image Comics. In that time, he has carved out a successful niche in the fiction world with successful collaborations with iconic genre heroes including William Shatner (Star Trek), Adam West (Batman), Vincent Price, Ray Harryhausen (Clash of the Titans/Jason and the Argonauts/Sinbad), William Nolan (Logan's Run), Roger Corman, and many others. These projects including "Wrath of the Titans," "Logan's Run Last Day," "TekWar Chronicles" and "Vincent Price Presents" have, in their own right, become part of the canon of each property. As popular as his fiction books, Davis is singularly responsible for the resurgence of the nonfiction comic book. With his partnership through libraries, school systems and other learning centers, Davis has dramatically expanded readership with his collection of biographies. These biographies, ranging from US Presidents and other political leaders to entertainment personalities to notable business leaders, helped redefine and reenergize a once-forgotten genre of comic books. His titles including Female Force, the national mainstream media has embraced Political Power, Tribute and Orbit. Davis has appeared in many news features including CNN Fox News, The View, The Tonight Show, Vanity Fair, New York Times, and even, TMZ! Davis credits reading comic books as a youth as the chief reason he overcame diagnosed reading issues. In fact, Davis now continually promotes reading and creating comic books through a program provided free to schools. "Comic Book 101" has been personally presented at dozens of schools. He has also been invited to speak at many conventions and conferences. This includes Yale University and Mensa! Davis has enjoyed a long career in the entertainment industry. Starting as a sales person at E! Entertainment, he went on to work for DC Comics, Image, and Wizard before forming his own production company. His very first independent creation, The Tenth Muse, became the 6th highest grossing book of 2001. This is significant considering competition from well-known and well- established titles. In 2015, Davis started StormFront Publishing in order to expand his professional experience into other media including television, podcasts and other multi-media ventures. Insane Jane is currently in production with Dollhouse alum Laurie Miracle attached to star in the eponymous role. Davis' 10th Muse and Legend of Isis has also been optioned and in development. Davis created Wrath of the Titans was produced by Warner Bros.in 2012. Several of Davis's other titles including Vincent Price Presents, Sinbad Rogue of Mars, Ray Harryhausen's The Elementals and Logan's Run have been adapted as radio dramas broadcast by Colonial Radio Theater over their SiriusXM channel. Davis even has had his own comic book as a question on Jeopardy! ► Luxury Women Handbag Discounts: https://www.theofficialathena.... ► Become an Equus Coach®: https://equuscoach.com/?rfsn=7... ► For $5 in ride credit, download the Lyft app using my referral link: https://www.lyft.com/ici/ASH58... ► Review Us: https://itunes.apple.com/us/po... ► Subscribe: http://www.youtube.com/c/AshSa... ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/1lov... ► Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ashsa... ► Twitter: https://twitter.com/1loveAsh ► Blog: http://www.ashsaidit.com/blog #atlanta #ashsaidit #theashsaiditshow #ashblogsit #ashsaidit®
That's right! In this episode, Michael Freeby speaks with Darren G. Davis the publisher and writer behind the new comic book about FLOTUS Dr. Jill Biden! Is Dr. Jill a real-life superhero? We also discuss comic books published about First Lady Nancy Reagan and Sarah Palin, Jill Biden's latest fashion and style moments...and where is Melania Trump?!
The world of comic books and graphic novels is serious fun. Meaning, both serious and fun. From a serious shift in the revenue model as paper product has gone digital and the edutainment factor of non-fiction hand-drawn histories, to the wildly wicked fantasies spawned by Barbarella type heroines to fictionalized lives of heroes among us. Darren G. Davis, president of one of the leading producers of both the serious and the fun books, TidalWave Productions, made a spontaneous appearance for Episode 8 of Insider Interviews with E.B. Moss – who was actually his former boss at the start of his career in entertainment, and now counts herself as a friend to the seriously funny founder! In an office surrounded by framed super heroes, acquired during his days at DC Comics, and signed comic book covers from his biographical spins on everyone from Hillary Clinton to Barbara Walters, Davis both reminisced about our days at E! and his path forward from there, dished the dirt, and shared breaking news of stranger than fiction comics to come. Hint: Thought you’d heard the last of Stormy Daniels?.... Davis described the evolution of some of the iconic titles he’s created or developed over the past 20 years, including the top-selling “10th Muse” for Image Comics, and the niche he carved out in the fiction world via successful collaborations with iconic larger than life real characters ranging from William Shatner (Star Trek) and Adam West (Batman), to Vincent Price, William Nolan (Logan's Run), Roger Corman, and now even the infamous Tiger King! Listen for some of these moments, but it’s a breezy 35-minutes and you’ll want to hear all the fairly unfiltered anecdotes of this side of the content business: 03:45 Leveraging an E! internship to a network ad sales career to marketing “B” movies (including his first encounter with Leprechaun the movie, which made its way years later into a comic book) to repping artists -- and how it all came together to create a new career; 08:00: From the muse of Olivia Newton John to learning to love the WWF 09:30: The difference between a comic book and a graphic novel :11:40: Phone messages from Batman and making misadventures for Adam West 13:00: How Julie Newmar ended up back in time as Catwoman meets super-secret spy 15:25: How to wear multiple hats and learn to pivot as a manager 17:10: How to calm the tempest of Stormy Daniels’ angry manager (or lawyer) and wind up as friends – and business partners 20:25: Turing women ranging from Condoleezza, and Sarah to Hillary and Stormy into a female force series (Hint: listen here for the breaking news!) to showcase the positivity in what they've accomplished – and the inspiration for it from the master, Stan Lee; 23:15: The origins and value of comic books as educational – and taking a non-partisan stance, even when drawing on Obama to Bush; 27:25: How Nook and Google and other platforms fill in the pages of lost print ads 29:00: A not so serious discussion of fantasy super powers 30:20 A serious discussion of celebrations and creations during COVID times 33:00: The evolution of a “best worst idea”... twice And...best ending ever? Davis pays tribute to Moss as SuperMentor. PS: You heard this here first, too: He promises to put me in a comic some day!
Today on The ProVision Celebrity Segment Neil S. Haley and Eric Couch will interview Darren G Davis, Michael Frizell, and Jesse Johnson about the TIGER KING COMIC BOOK. The 22-page comic book biography was written by Michael Frizell and drawn by Joe Paradise. The pair are the creative force behind the “Political Power: James Comey” and “Female Force: Stormy Daniels” comic books. The comic book will be available in both print and digital with two collectible covers by Joe Paradise and Jesse Johnson. “Infamous: Tiger King”: During the age of COVID-19, the world needs a distraction. Perhaps that's why we are collectively riveted to Netflix's “Tiger King.” A murder mystery resembling an episode of newsmagazine “Dateline,” “Tiger King” introduced the world to the flamboyant Joe Exotic, a former magician, country singer and zookeeper with a troubled past. Joe currently sits in jail for planning to murder his rival, Big Cat Rescue owner and animal rights activist Carole Baskin, who he accuses of killing her husband and feeding him to her tigers. Truth is indeed stranger than fiction in this origin story of both Joe and Carole in a flipbook. "PETA is excited that TidalWave Productions will reveal some of what ‘Tiger King' left out," said PETA Foundation Director of Captive Animal Law Enforcement Brittany Peet, who appears in the Netflix series. "When readers learn how exotic animals suffer when they're snatched away from their mothers as babies and exploited for photo props, they'll despise 'Doc' Antle, Tim Stark, Jeff Lowe, and anybody else who profits from breeding and abusing these wonderful animals in shady, moneymaking schemes."
Tidal Wave Productions (tidalwavecomics.com) is led by the AMAZING Darren G. Davis. A recent Willamette Week Best of Portland winner ("best biographical comics" for his nonfiction comics on everyone from Michelle Obama to James Comey and Ellen DeGeneres ) Davis sat down with PDXISH to talk comics, celebrities (Olivia Newton John comes up more than once), being gay in Los Angeles and Portland and all sorts of other stuff. He's a fascinating man. Please take a listen.
