Headlines and JAY BUHNER joins the show to give us his thoughts on this Mariners regular season and how he feels about this team heading into the playoffs. :30- The Huskies fell to the Buckeyes on Saturday, which wasn't the surprise. The surprise was in how they lost, with the defense keeping them in the game and the offense struggling. :45- ABCs of the Mariners - W is for Wilson: Dan Wilson is getting ready for his first postseason as a manager in the major leagues and while he struggled a bit in the beginning, he seems to have knocked that rookie rust off heading into the playoffs. - X is for exit stage left: there are some teams who were eliminated from the playoffs and it's sad… and there are others who have been eliminated and it's not even a little sad! Ohio State vs Washington Pregame ShowAJ Lets Talk SportsOhio State enters the game as the No. 1 ranked team (3–0) and faces Washington (also 3–0) on the road in Seattle. The Buckeyes are led by freshman QB Julian Sayin, who has been efficient in the early season, while Washington counters with Demond Williams Jr. and standout running back Jonah Coleman. Defensively, Ohio State boasts one of the nation's stingiest red‑zone units, allowing virtually no scores inside the 20 so far. Meanwhile, Washington's offense is explosive (averaging over 500 yards per game) and its third‑down success rate is among the best in the country.LINKTREE: https://linktr.ee/AJLetsTalkSportsHistorically, Ohio State leads the all‑time series, including a dramatic 28–23 Rose Bowl win in 2019. This 2025 matchup is their first Big Ten meeting, and it marks Ohio State's first true road trip of the season. Expectations are that depth, experience, and defensive consistency will be major deciding factors, especially in a challenging away environment.
Ohio State hits the road for the first time in 2025 — a massive Big Ten opener at Washington. Husky Stadium will be rocking, and the Buckeyes will face one of the nation's most dangerous trios in QB Demond Williams Jr., RB Jonah Coleman, and WR Denzel Boston. In this episode, we break down the 5 keys to a Buckeye victory, including: How OSU can contain dual-threat QB Demond Williams Why tackling Jonah Coleman in space is critical The mismatch opportunities vs Washington's secondary The role of OSU's pass rush in dictating tempo How the Buckeyes must handle Husky Stadium noise If Ohio State executes these keys, they'll stay unbeaten and in control of their playoff path.
Note: I wanted a photo of Crippen but Flickr has a bug right now that won't let us access most of our images. Things Discussed: Nebraska: Hero is Greg Crippen, stretch blocker extraordinaire. M is a stretch team, which emphasizes your center. Playing two backup guards but they were good too (mostly—2 errors for Guarnera, 3 for Efobi). Link…sometimes he just doesn't know what he's doing, still leagues better than last year. When El-Hadi comes back who plays? Bryce Talk: Getting him rolling out, getting him comfortable, defenses are screen-hunting. Lindsey: Great gameplan, was calling it well, got Michigan a lot of Ws. Defense: Seeing young guys step up. Trey Pierce is a star in Run D, ended the first drive himself, was a big part of M's stretch defense. Cole Sullivan is a wow player who still makes mistakes but is going to be crazy good. Jayden Sanders: maybe he's just a starting cornerback. Worthy of trust out there. Gotta talk to Wink: It's not just the big things; what he was doing on the Hail Mary was far too cute. There were 14 RPS-1s in the charting, which means he was trying to be the playcaller who won the game. It shouldn't be about the playcaller. Ohio State at Washington: UW has a shot because they have those great skill position players. Jonah Coleman is the best RB in the Big Ten, Boston is the 2nd best WR in the country, and teams struggle going out west to that slippery field. But OSU tends to win these games, and they're a more complete team, even if they're not the same offense they've been, because UW has worse lines. Oregon-Penn State: Franklin will find a way to lose, PSU's season has holes that the scores don't tell.
The undefeated Huskies host the Buckeyes on Saturday. We breakdown both sides of the ball and give our thoughts on the Big Ten opener for both schools. Can the Washington defense handle the Ohio State air attack? Is Demond Williams a threat to this Buckeye defense? We also discuss Washington impact players such as Jonah Coleman and Denzel Boston. Finally, we wrap up the episode with our keys to the game!
Today's episode breaks down Ryan Day's press conference and the latest Washington injury updates ahead of Ohio State–Washington. What we cover: Day on Husky Stadium noise: silent cadence plan, road-ops 101, and keeping Julian Sayin steady Why Day calls Washington's offense “very, very talented” (Demond Williams Jr., Jonah Coleman, Denzel Boston) Matchup stress points: OSU DBs vs Boston, spy rules on Williams, tackling Coleman in space Washington injuries and what they mean: CB Tacario Davis – game-time watch (how it flips OSU's WR matchups) LB Buddha Al-Uqda – out (impact on run fits/green-dog pressure) WR Rasheed Williams – out (targets consolidating to Boston/Coleman) S Alex McLaughlin – riser (ballhawk tendencies you must account for) How Hartline can hunt the nickel/outside corner, and Patricia's keys to forcing a turnover No fluff—just what changes, where OSU should attack, and how the crowd factors into execution. Ohio State heads to Washington this weekend to face the No. 2 ranked offense in the country….yet the Huskies aren't ranked still. The Buckeyes open as a 9.5 point favorite There's belief by some that Washinton's Jonah Coleman is the top RB in the entire B1G, and QB Demond Williams has been excellent so far…is Ryan Day taking the L this weekend in Seattle? It's a heavyweight showdown in Seattle as No. 1 Ohio State faces Washington in their Big Ten opener. We break down the Huskies' explosive offense — QB Demond Williams Jr., RB Jonah Coleman, and WR Denzel Boston — against the Buckeyes' loaded defense led by Sonny Styles, Arvell Reese, and Caleb Downs. Key topics in this episode: Why Demond Williams is the most dangerous QB Ohio State has faced yet How the Buckeyes can win in the trenches vs Washington's shaky O-line Jonah Coleman's impact as a runner and receiver Denzel Boston vs OSU's secondary: the matchup to watch Keys to containing Williams and forcing turnovers If Ohio State's front seven can fence in Williams and limit Coleman's YAC, this could be a statement game for Matt Patricia's defense. The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds in Pullman and Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund in Seattle - break down all the things they saw during Washington's historic 59-24 win in the Apple Cup Saturday night in Pullman. To start with, it was the hottest Apple Cup on record, with 81-degrees announced at kickoff. And the 59 points was the most Washington has ever scored in an Apple Cup, surpassing the 56 points they scored in 1991. It was also the first road win of the Jedd Fisch era on Montlake and the first road win for Washington since their 2023 win in Corvallis over Oregon State. Among the topics discussed during the 40-minute game recap: - Kim's take on the atmosphere compared to other Apple Cups at Martin Stadium, and also how beer sales impacted the crowd (if at all).- The adjustments Washington made over the course of the game to eventually push past the pesky Cougars in the fourth quarter- The offensive efficiency, starting with Demond Williams and the fact that they didn't have to punt for a second-straight game.- The defensive issues against WSU's passing game and especially the struggles that both Leroy Bryant and Deven Bryant had.- The momentum gained by the two big fourth-quarter turnovers, starting with Alex McLaughlin's pick-six and Dylan Robinson's punchout the very next play.- John Mills' monster pancake block to spring Jonah Coleman for an early touchdown.- The continued impressive performance by the offensive line, especially with how they were able to overcome and adjust to all the early games WSU's defensive line threw at them.- Final thoughts as the Huskies look ahead to hosting the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes. The 117th Apple Cup looms large as the Washington Huskies head across the state to take on the Washington State Cougars. Jedd Fisch's undefeated Huskies were able to enjoy a bye week while the Cougs suffered their first loss of the season in Denton against the North Texas Mean Green. Even so, Jimmy Rogers won't have a hard time getting the most out of his WSU team who will be desperate to retain the Apple Cup Trophy for another year. After a week off of their own, Jack and Luke are back at it with the Mac and Mounger show. The two former (current?) interns grade Washington's 70-10 smack down of UC Davis. Afterwards, they share their top stories to watch in this weekend's showdown. A couple highlights include a quarterback competition in Pullman and a budding Heisman campaign for Jonah Coleman. Next, the duo picks their "Bets to Bark" for the week, each selecting a player on offense and defense to have a standout performance. Hint: Jonah Coleman was selected in this segment. After that, the Betting B1G start of the show begins. It's important to note that Luke is 6-0 on the season. How long can he remain undefeated? Also, don't ask Jack what his record is. Finally, Jack and Luke put a numeric value to their confidence level the Huskies will bring the Apple Cup back home to Seattle. We are witnessing a season to remember and the only proper way to celebrate it is to acknowledge Cal-O-Ween. The Mariners are playing good baseball, they aren't just winning on good pitching or high scoring offense, they're finding a way to do it all and if they can keep it up, they'll go far. Of course, the question remains, can they keep it up? No matter how well we've done over these last 10 games, we are still only a half game up on the Astros, so theirs is no room for error. :30- There's been a lot of chatter about the play of Demond Williams Jr and Jonah Coleman, but is it too early to start hyping up postseason awards for the Dawgs? The real test is still a week and a half away against Ohio State. :45- We close out this humpday with one last thing!
CAM CLEELAND (Learfield Washington Color analyst) It's Apple Cup week and it just doesn't feel the same anymore, but the Dawgs haven't won on the road under Jedd Fisch and they need to get one this weekend in Pullman. How important is it for the Dawgs to get this win and how confident is Cam that Dawgs will get it done? Whoopsies, some Oregon hate seeps in! :30- ANGIE MENTINK (Root Sports) joins the show to help us celebrate Calloween! :45- Is the future of the tush push on the rocks? The Washington Huskies decimated UC Davis 70-10, and the guys from Dawgman.com - Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund - broke down all the positives they saw. And there were a lot of them. To start, the Huskies got off to a hot start, scoring the five times they had the ball in the first half, amassing a 42-10 halftime edge. They were also able to get a pick from Tacario Davis and should have had another one from their other 6-4 corner, Ephesians Prysock. But there were still some sloppy penalties and execution issues that kept the Huskies from shutting down the Aggies completely. Chris and Scott talked about their favorite players of the game, starting with Jonah Coleman and his four first-half touchdowns (five overall!), as well as how rock-solid Demond Williams was with his decision-making all night long. Then they turned to the defense to talk about their difference-makers. They also went through all the true freshmen that have played so far this season. There's 10 in all, including four that made their UW debuts tonight; Chris Lawson, Champ Taulealea, Ramonz Adams, and D'Aryhian Clemons. And they also gave their final thoughts on the game and especially how it plays into how the Huskies will work during their BYE week leading into their Apple Cup game in Pullman in two weeks' time. The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - stayed up way past their bedtimes to make sure they got their thoughts recorded after Washington's 38-21 win over the Colorado State Rams in the Huskies' season-opener Saturday night at Husky Stadium. The win, the first ever for quarterback Demond Williams Jr. as a starter, was also Washington's 21st-straight home win, a record they hope to build on next weekend against UC Davis. To start the show, the guys naturally gravitated toward the offensive side of the ball. It was there where Washington truly shined, going for 509 total yards, including 283 yards on the ground. That would have been the most yards on the ground last season too. Jonah Coleman almost broke his career mark as he ran 24 times for 177 yards and two scores. Williams added 68 yards on his own. The guys talked about the ability of the Huskies to be able to run, starting with that revamped offensive line, one that included a start from true freshman left guard John Mills. They also talked about Williams' winning performance. The sophomore signal caller was 18-24 for 226 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. After a quick break the talk turned the defense, a group that struggled out of the gate to contain CSU QB Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and RB Jalen Dupree. But by the second half the Huskies' new look scheme and first-year defensive coordinator Ryan Walters had things dialed in, allowing only 105 total second-half yards, including minus-6 yards on the ground. There were a few standouts, including the play of the game by Makell Esteen, the stellar overall play of NAU transfer safety Alex McLaughlin, and Chris and Scott's defensive player of the game, Jacob Lane. The junior EDGE finished with five tackles, including two tackles for loss, and was the one guy in the first half that really seemed to taste some success while others along the front struggled a bit. Training camp is winding down, and game week is almost here (with Week Zero kicking off Saturday!). That means it's time for a recap from the road.On the latest episode of Y-Option, presented by our founding partner 76 — keeping you on the GO GO GO so you never miss a beat — Jim Thornby and I sit down to unpack everything learned while traveling coast to coast. What stood out:* Penn State: The Nittany Lions have earned the right to be in the national title conversation. I'm a big believer in Drew Allar, as QBs need scars and every Penn State fan knows he has them. I think his maturity and work off the field will lead him to his most successful season in Happy Valley and I would bet in January he will say he played with the most joy in his young career. * Oregon: Despite losing a ton of production, their competitive depth is elite. Dante Moore (not yet named the starter) looked like one of the most impressive QBs I've seen in years. His ability to layer the ball, locate his wideouts and throw a catchable ball is as good as I've seen on the tour. * The Midwest stops: Illinois (my CFP sleeper), Wisconsin, and Iowa. Three places I'd never been to and each visit revealed growth and momentum. Walking away, my takeaway was simple: everybody has gotten better from a year ago. Another takeaway, Bret Bielema is one of the nation's most underrated head coaches. His experience as a head coach, an assistant with the Patriots & more has tangible depth to it and will only help this team if they can get through September undefeated. I think his team will be one of the biggest storylines of the season.* Back West: Our tour out West began in Eugene and then headed north to Seattle to see Jedd Fisch's team in his second year. Demond Williams, Jonah Coleman, Denzel Boston are all stars. With an improved OL this group is going to give teams fits. Add in two 6'4'' corners and UW will be a must see team this fall. We concluded in LA for some Big Ten Network crew fellowship and after watching DeShaun Foster's Bruins and Lincoln Riley's Trojans one thing is certain–the West Coast schools all look like B1G programs on the offensive and defensive lines. * Overall: the best part of the tour was time with my colleagues. Gerry DiNardo, Kyle Coughlin, Ashley Adamson and all of our Big Ten Network colleagues - it was an absolute blast and we made sure to make the most of it. And our Coach found himself with more slips than he knows what to do with!In addition, we dive into Cal naming a starting QB, Utah's opinions on public injury reports, Stanford in Week Zero and the Cougs and Beavs. Overall, this episode is a full rundown of training camp takeaways, the storylines that matter most, and what's ahead as the season kicks off.So with that, let's get after it!! We appreciate you riding along and as always, much love and stay steady,YogiY-Option: College Football with Yogi Roth is a reader-supported publication. Now that fall camp is closed to the media, the Dawgman guys - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund go in-depth with their observations on Washington's depth on the offensive side of the ball. Starting with the quarterbacks, they work their way down the recent two-deeps that they released this week. Some of the sub-topics discussed were the differences between the QB succession plan last year compared to now, the running backs behind Jonah Coleman, the battle at left guard between Paki Finau and John Mills, the use of tight end Kade Eldridge, and who is going to step up behind Denzel Boston at receiver.
