We discuss what we have seen from Wisconsin Badgers football interim head coach Jim Leonhard after three games with him in his new role. One thing is clear, he is owning the moment - his communication has been clear and concise. He's also stepped away from the offense which has allowed Bobby Engram to put Graham Mertz in great spots. We also haven't seen a mass exodus of transfers, or any de-commits from the recruiting department. We talk about Purdue and why Bobby Engram, Graham Mertz and John Torchio all stepped up big time. We discuss the game plan and how Engram kept Purdue's defense on their heels all game long. This was a great offensive gameplan and the coaches deserve a lot of credit. Finally we talk about the WR group and the ILB group and how both spots have really stepped up in the last week. We discuss what we would like to see during the bye week and how this team can be even better coming out of it. The Wisconsin Badgers football team hosted a number of recruits for the season opener with four quarterbacks and several blue-chip 2024 prospects. We quickly talk about the quarterbacks that were in Madison from out of state prospects Parker Leise and Ryan Browne to in-state kids Jerry Kaminsky and Jackson Flottmeyer. I talk about why all of these prospects have something to offer and how underrate they are in certain aspects. I talk about why Jackson Flottmeyer reminds me a little bit of Joel Stave in a good way and how the Badgers will need to make some tough choices with regards to which quarterbacks they are chasing and prioritizing. We discuss the possibility of a two quarterback class and why that might make some sense with the prospects on the board. Next we talk about a group of very talented 2024 prospects that made their way to Madison headlined by in-state blue chip running back Corey Smith. I talk about Corey's game and the other players in his recruitment, we discuss just how talented he is and why he's such an elite running back. There was also an intriguing group of tight ends in Madison led by Carter Nelson a 4* TE out of Nebraska - he's an elite athlete with tremendous upside. Finally on Locked On Badgers we break down Paul Chryst's press conference and what he had to say about injuries, the number two quarterback spot and Washington State. Do you really need a niche to grow your business? If so, how deep should you go? Co-hosts Hannah Robinson and Melissa Honan talk to Brooke Swan from Clarity Bookkeeping - they discuss the process of finding a niche, how long it takes to build a strong brand within your niche, and break down a simple strategy you can use to generate more business referrals. Brooke Swan is the Owner and CEO of Clarity Bookkeeping and Consulting - she has helped hundreds of business owners reach their goals and even enjoy accounting. Hannah asks Brooke what made her want to niche down and why she settled on service-based businesses. Brooke describes how her business has evolved since the last time she was interviewed on ILB. Hannah asks Brooke how much time it took to completely niche down in her business. Based on her experience finding and working in one specific niche, Brooke believes building your business around a niche almost always guarantees business growth. Brooke explains the challenges of adding new services to your business - and what it means to uniquely position yourself based on price point, service quality, and service offering. Brooke reveals that her favorite thing about having a niche is the confidence that comes with understanding all types of client needs. Hannah underlines the benefits of being detail-oriented as a bookkeeper. Brooke talks about the pains of working with service-based industries - and the level of detail that goes into bookkeeping for businesses that still believe in brick-and-mortar accounting. Brooke shares her experience using Content Snare to onboard clients, collect documents, and process queries in her business - she also reveals some of the other tools she uses to serve her clients better. Brooke talks about how she built a thriving business based on referrals - and how referrals from the BNI community almost tripled the size of her business. Melissa asks Brooke what she would recommend for new bookkeepers to guarantee business growth. Brooke reveals that, as an introvert, she's not a big fan of networking events but attends them nonetheless, for the sake of her business. Hannah, Melissa, and Brooke agree that the easiest way to get the most out of networking events is to go after building relationships instead of trying to sell.     Mentioned in this episode: Clarity Bookkeeping - claritybkpg.com success@ilovebookkeeping.com

The Wisconsin Badgers football team has several questions going into 2022. SaturdayTradition.com has their list of ten questions and we tackle them all. Lets start with Braelon Allen, what kind of sophmore season is in store for the star Wisconsin running back and why he might need a strong second running back to help take some of the load off of him. We discuss Graham Mertz and if he is capable of taking a big jump this season. We also discuss Chimere Dike and why he's certainly the Badgers #1 WR this year. In the next segment, I talk about the ILB duo of Leo Chenel and Jack Sanborn leaving for the NFL and how the Badgers might replace them. I argue that there is no way for the Badgers to fully replace that dynamic duo, but Jordan Turner will be a star. I talk about the two rivalry games against Minnesota and Iowa -- and why I think the Badgers will beat the Gophers but lose to Iowa. Finally on Locked On Badgers I talk about the potential strong start for the Badgers with three soft teams to play to begin the season and why Paul Chryst needs to let Graham Mertz throw the ball against bad teams. I also discuss why I wouldn't put a ton of stock in Bobby Engram turning the offense around in year one. We discuss the positional battles for the Wisconsin Badgers football team going into the oncoming season and we also talk about potential basketball sleepers that might surprise some people. We start by talking about the offensive side of the ball and the battle at right guard between likely Michael Furtney and Tanner Bortolini. John think its Tanner's job to lose and the we all agree - he's just too good to leave on the sidelines. We talk about the tight end position and specifically Clay Cundiff who we think is the best overall TE on the roster. We also talk about Jaylin Franklin and if the staff can find a role for him on the roster. Finally we discuss the WR spot and who the #2 WR besides Chimere Dike will be. Ryan thinks it might be Keontez Lewis while John thinks Markus Allen will be the guy at that role. Next we discuss defensive positional battles with a focus on the CB, ILB and OLB positions. The OLB spot is really interesting with Herbig having one spot locked down but the other side is wide open between Darryl Peterson, TJ Bollers, CJ Goetz and Aaron Witt. We also discuss the new transfer CBs and who will likely be the #2 corner alongside Alexander Smith. Finally on Locked On Badgers we discuss the basketball program and some players that might exceed expectations next year. John thinks it could be Carter Gilmore based on his ability to do the little things and hit some shots (hopefully). Ryan thinks Kamari McGee will outplay expectations with his ability to score and bring some quickness to the backcourt, while Justin threw out Isaac Lindsey as a guy who has the size and shooting ability the Badgers desperately need. When should you hire an employee and when should you go for a contractor? Co-hosts Melissa Honan and Hannah Robinson discuss what to consider and what business owners can do to build great relationships with their contractors. Melissa discusses the differences between a contractor and an employee. According to Melissa, oftentimes, the first hire is trying to find a contractor for your bookkeeping business. That's followed by you hiring a virtual assistant. Melissa talks about the subcontractor-based model and the employee-based model, which of the two is not sustainable in the long run, and goes over the approach she uses in her own bookkeeping business. Hannah shares when she believes most bookkeeping businesses are going to need a contractor. For Melissa, welcoming contractors into your company culture and treating them as if they were actual employees is an excellent way to get them to stick around and work with you longer – even if they aren't helping you in quite the full-time capacity. Melissa breaks down the approach and onboarding process she uses for new subcontractors in her business and shares a story that has led her to adopt this onboarding approach. Melissa offers a breakdown of the bookkeeping services she uses subcontractors for. There are different ways to find and connect with potential subcontractors, Melissa discusses a few of these options.     Mentioned in this episode: ILB episode 33 - Are You a Boss or a Leader? In the first segment we discuss Johnny Davis and what the industry loves about him. How do his intangibles stack up and why he has a high ceiling. Rafael talks about his two-way ability and his rebounding prowess as a guard and why that makes him especially unique. We also talk about the chances that Davis will get easier looks in the NBA with fewer defenders. We finish with a discussion on his jump shot and if thats the easiest part of a players game to correct. Next we talk a little bit about Rafael's connection to Chucky Hepburn, and we get into some player comps for Johnny Davis. I ask him if Davis reminds him at all of Devin Booker and lay out the case why I think there's a solid potential comp between the two. Finally we get into some players that Rafael thinks may be undervalued. Finally on Locked On Badgers we briefly touch on the newest ILB coach news and it sounds like Michael Caputo is the guy for the job. Co-hosts Hannah Robinson and Melissa Honan discuss the role onboarding has in the entire sales process, how to share your expectations with existing and new clients, and how to act when things don't go well. Melissa explains why, in her opinion, the onboarding time is actually the most important time of a relationship with a client – and what you should do during onboarding. Hannah asks Melissa at what time you should communicate your expectations to a client… and her answer is simple, yet, powerful: the entire time. Melissa shares a recent update she made for her proposal at Bookkeeping for Painters. Melissa opens up about the way she communicates her expectations to new clients. Melissa touches upon a question she has been asked a lot lately: “What are the biggest red flags you see in your bookkeeping clients?”. Hannah asks Melissa how she goes about managing expectations when it doesn't have to do with onboarding that much, but rather with maintaining a client relationship. Melissa shares a pet peeve she has with those who reply faster to prospects compared to current clients – and she discusses what the best way for you to make more money should look like.
