Ishi, a native American man who was widely acclaimed as the “last wild Indian” emerged from the wilderness on 29th August, 1911. His arrival came as a huge surprise to the people of Oroville, California, who had thought that his entire tribe had become extinct a good 40 years earlier. He was immediately taken to a jail cell and locked up, not because he had committed a crime but because authorities simply had no idea what to do with him. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly explore the relationship between Ishi and the anthropologists that took him in; discuss why he preferred to be photographed in a suit and tie rather than Native American dress; and speculate on what Ishi must have made of the vaudeville shows his handlers took him to see… Further Reading: • ‘The Story Of Ishi, The ‘Last' Native American' (All That's Interesting, 2018): https://allthatsinteresting.com/ishi-last-native-american • ‘America honours its debt to Ishi, last of the Yahis' (The Guardian, 2000): https://www.theguardian.com/world/2000/aug/10/duncancampbell • ‘A Man Called Ishi' (Advanced Laboratory for Visual Anthropology at CSU, Chico, 2021): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEmqOCta3NU #US #1910s #Indigenous This episode first aired in 2023 Love the show? What are the barriers to building more on-campus housing? Why does it matter for students? Mike Evans and Brandon Stokley open the second hour hearing some insider info that the Broncos are on Kansas City’s radar. Joint practices with the 49ers has the guys wondering What-If? What if the Broncos hired Kyle Shanahan over Vance Joseph? Stoke holds Mike accountable for an incident after the show. What’s Trending? Our 9News Broncos insider joins the show live from Santa Clara to discuss Tyler Badie potentially taking the third running back spot, Troy Franklin having another great practice, and if an under the radar player can find his way onto the Broncos 53-man roster. Today’s “Three Count” includes questioning if Kyrese Rowan can the be the next example of an underwhelming college football player popping in the NFL and ESPN ranking CU in the 11th tier and CSU in the 17th tier of college football. Could we see the end of the Broncos long history of undrafted free agents making a big impact on the team?

I had an enlightening conversation with Brian and Mary McKnight, the driving forces behind Turf Tamers Landscaping in Fort Collins. Brian shared how he acquired Turf Tamers, initially a tiny business, and grew it from the ground up starting with a few clients in 2001. Brian shared his background, and the drama in moving from “trendy” California to “cowtown” Fort Collins in high school - but how he soon fit right in and found summer work in landscaping. Mary, on the other hand, came to CSU from Indiana and studied global tourism. They met at the Rio, and their shared passion for adventure and travel led to a quick connection, and soon jobs and business opportunities in Chile. They bought property in Chilean Patagonia in 2008, and over the years developed both the property and deep relationships with the neighboring families. Despite travel challenges and lack of infrastructure - their valley finally got electric power in 2016! - they've developed an amazing fishing and recreation property in one of the most unique glacial valleys in Patagonia, and we spend a fair bit of time exploring their valley and the local culture. Brian and Mary also shared extensively about their business evolution, particularly how incorporating systems and focusing on quality customer service has been their key to success. Brian appreciated how Mary's involvement sped their evolution, and how his membership in LoCo Think Tank has broadened his and their perspectives. For young people, they emphasized the importance of travel and entrepreneurship, and shared how their focus on values informs their business and family decisions. Our time together was an exploration of building a business and a life with intention and an adventurous spirit, so please tune in and enjoy my conversation with Brian and Mary McKnight. Do adults with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) have a higher risk of death over time compared to people without hives? We review the findings from “Mortality in adult patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria: A real-world cohort study,” published in April 2025, in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. While CSU is often considered a non-life-threatening condition, this large study found something surprising: people with CSU had a significantly higher risk of death, especially from suicide. Dr. G and Dr. Blaiss walk through key takeaways from a dataset of over 272,000 CSU patients and nearly 13 million matched controls. They explore what the results mean for mortality risk, clinical care, mental health screening, and the importance of proper, guideline-based treatment. What we cover in our episode about CSU and mortality risk: What is CSU? Chronic hives are an unpredictable, itchy, and sometimes painful condition. It lasts for 6 weeks or longer and can continue for years. Mental health connection: CSU affects more than skin. Anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts are common and serious concerns. Study findings: CSU was associated with higher mortality at 3 months, 1 year, and 5 years. Suicide risk was over 3 times higher than in people without CSU. Demographics: Younger and White patients with CSU had the highest increase in risk. Treatment impact: Patients using guideline-recommended treatments like second-generation antihistamines or omalizumab had lower death rates. INFOGRAPHIC The Itch Review, hosted by Dr. Gupta, Kortney, and Dr. Blaiss, explores allergy and immunology studies, breaking down complex research in conversations accessible to clinicians, patients, and caregivers. Each episode provides key insights from journal articles and includes a one-page infographic in the show notes for easy reference. Made in partnership with The Allergy & Asthma Network. In this episode of Derms and Conditions, host James Q. Del Rosso, DO, sits down with Jason Hawkes, MD, Chief Scientific Officer at Oregon Medical Research Center, to explore the role of dupilumab in chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), a condition historically managed outside dermatology. They begin with the immunologic underpinnings of CSU, explaining the role of IL-4 and IL-13 in driving mast cell activation and the role of IL-31 in itch. Since dupilumab blocks these key cytokines, it can disrupt the disease process at multiple levels, from antibody formation to immune cell recruitment. They discuss the growing comfort among dermatologists in treating CSU now that a familiar and accessible agent like dupilumab is available, especially when compared to omalizumab, which has been limited by concerns over anaphylaxis and practice logistics. They next address real-world considerations, including the time dupilumab takes to work, the use of short-term corticosteroids, and the need for personalized treatment approaches. They caution against over-reliance on corticosteroids and discuss alternative bridging therapies like cyclosporine or methotrexate for severe cases. The episode also covers dosing nuances, patient selection, how to distinguish CSU from other urticaria types, and the importance of setting expectations. Dr Hawkes shares his experience with long-term efficacy, noting minimal loss of response among his patients. Listen to this episode for more clinical insights on dupilumab as a key treatment in managing chronic spontaneous urticaria, including considerations around patient selection, duration of therapy, and long-term disease control.

Woop! Woop!
Glass House Farms openly employed over 300 illegal aliens, including minors and individuals charged with violent crimes. Despite the clear violations of immigration and labor laws, left-wing protesters—tipped off in advance—rushed in to block ICE agents. Among them: a CSU professor who threw a tear gas canister at law enforcement. Victor Davis Hanson breaks down this incident that exposes a disturbing truth about California's political class on today's episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: I His Own Words.” “ This raid typified or exemplified or was emblematic of all the strange things that are going on with illegal immigration. First of all, this was a very liberal owner. He was a campaign donor to Gavin Newsom. Gave him over $10,000. He's given to the DNC. And yet, ICE went out there because they had news that not only were there over 350 people there who were illegally openly working in violation of immigration law, but there were minors. “ And yet, the Left can thinks that this is going to be a legitimate protest movement with popularity or favorability among the California or, indeed, the United States public. I don't think that's going to happen.”
Hour 2 kicks off with an Angel Martinez live traffic update on the I-15 truck fire debacle—one lane's open, but delays continue. Then, Tim dives into a bizarre arrest involving a CSU professor tied to the recent ICE raid at a marijuana farm. The professor claims innocence, but the video says otherwise. Conway gets nostalgic about childhood fart humor (as only he can) before covering a tragic workplace accident involving a meat grinder. Later, Tim chats with Peter Gillooly, CEO of The Wellness Company, about how to stay healthy while traveling this summer. The hour wraps with the weirdest headline of the day: Elmo's social media account gets hacked with offensive content—why does a puppet have Twitter anyway? And did you know chimpanzees are trend-followers too?
