In the immortal words of the trve kvlt black metal band Staind, "it's been awhile" since you've heard from the Deaf To All But Metal crew. We recorded the audio from a live video Gary and Tain took part in to fill you in on what is happening in the DTABM camp and present it to you now! Feel free to contact us either through Facebook or via deaftoallbm@gmail.com and a massive THANK YOU for your support. Keep an eye out for some upcoming interviews and other bits and pieces.
Welcome to Careless Whispod, episode ZERO! This is an introductory episode to get you acquainted with your hosts and let you know what this whole ruddy podcast thing is all about. 3 very different lives (one of science, one of spirituality, and one of debauchery) are thrown together by fate and a phone call to record this very first episode of the Deaf To All But Metal podcast for 2019. There is talk of new releases. The boys answer listener voicemail where Tyler of Face Command asks about dickheads in the metal scene and how to navigate around them in a tense political climate. There is also discussion of what is to come in the realm of metal in 2019. As always, Jez hasn't read the emails, Tain goes on tangents and Gary mentions Revenge. Plus, Mitch owes Jez big time. Here is the interview with Ray Ahn of the Hard Ons that we discuss in this episode: https://www.abc.net.au/doublej/music-reads/features/hard-ons-rose-tattoo-angry-anderson-ray-ahn/10714398 The DTABM theme song is, as always, by Smithy.
The term "bumper issue" gets thrown about the DTABM studio with reckless abandon oftentimes. However, these words have never been as poignant as they are when used to describe episode 32, the final episode of the podcast for 2018. Abandoning the convoluted, scripted skits for a more casual and conversational vibe, the DTABM pelicans talk about some of their favourite metal releases of 2018, their favourite gigs of the year, themselves, each other, the past, the present and the future. Not only that, there are some new segments featured for the very first time. Listener voicemail has DTABM fans calling in to talk about their fave metal albums of the year. There is also a segment called The Yellow Goat where the incomparable Dave Balfour discusses rare but noteworthy metallic gems from his extensive vinyl collection. To be part of the listener voicemail on the very first episode of 2019, call 02 8011 4663 (include the area code). For those calling from outside of Australia, the number is +61 8011 4663. If it's easier, just search for Deaf To All But Metal in Skype to find us and voice call us from there. Leave a message about anything you want. Maybe you want to tell us what releases you are looking forward to in the coming year. Maybe you want to give us your two cents about the podcast itself, about how you think we could improve or to shamelessly boost our egos by telling us we're already going great guns. Maybe you wanna weigh in on the current state of the metal scene. Whatever your heavy metal heart desires! Please don't forget to give us your name and try to keep your message brief, no more than a couple of minutes or so. Also, if you wanna plug your band/business/podcast/whatever, go for it! Finally, thank you for your support up until this point. Here's to more metal meanderings in the coming year! - Gary Grim The vocal coach Jeremy mentions in the episode: https://www.facebook.com/maryzimmeroffiicial/ Thank you to Mitch, Brooke and Chris for calling in! The DTBAM theme song is by Stephen "Smithy" Layzell.

Nietzsche. Sartre. Einstein. Durst. Touted by many as some of the greatest thinkers of all time. That was, of course, until episode 31 of the Deaf To All But Metal podcast. Your intrepid hosts up the intellectual caliber of their show in a manner that will not only expand your mind but perhaps even alter in ways unchangeable the zeitgeist as it is now known. There is a new segment called Great Farts in Metal History which is flogged to death throughout the course of the episode. There is talk about new releases wherein Jezabel and Tain giggle like cunning intellectuals at the band name Arsis. There is a segment about death metal releases from the month of October wherein Gary learns that Jezabel's feelings regarding the genre are not what he expected. There are haiku, ASMR death metal songs, ghosts of great British comedians and more packed into this bumper issue. As an elderly man, Gary Grim is visited by two writers who are compiling the story of his life. However, rather than learning about his beginnings, his struggles and his inevitable decline, these writers only seem to be interested in one particular shocking episode of the DTABM podcast... this episode. Old man Grim tells the writers the story of how the DTABM crew spoke about albums released around the time of the episode recording by bands such as Vein, Baptists, the Night Flight Orchestra, Uada, Dopethrone, Morag Tong, Oak, Ovate, Gruesome, Nocturnal Graves, Sleepwalkers, The Konsortium, Craft, and a then yet to be released Rebel Wizard album. He recalls how the lads went on to "break the silence" over not one but two albums by the bands Immortal and Deafheaven. The tales continues with a retelling of a "terrible album debate", a segment the guys had not come up with a catchy title for at the time, with the album St Anger by Metallica getting the DTABM treatment. Then Grim finally gets to the ending of the episode and the big reveal that came with it. What could have happened? What earth shattering news will be revealed? Could this spell the end of the Deaf To All But Metal podcast? (Probably not, you're not that lucky.) Tune in to find out! A regular old episode of the Deaf To All But Metal podcast is waylaid when Tain and Jezabel discover that Gary Grim is in possession of a time machine! Listen to these time pelicans embark upon a most perfunctory sojourn through time and space as they meet up with icons from throughout metal history. This episode of the podcast has all the hallmarks that you would find in a classic time travel film: cheesy effects, run ins with historical figures and a plot containing logic that only works if you don't think about it too much. Have a listen, we can literally make time for you to do so. We here at Deaf To All But Metal love the Night Flight Orchestra and their ability to perfectly encapsulate a classic rock sound whilst still sounding like their own entity. Gary Grim spoke to their vocalist, Bjorn "Speed" Strid, about NFO's sound, their upcoming album (Sometimes The World Ain't Enough - out on the 29th of June via Nuclear Blast Records), the band's imagery, their upcoming tour and the ultimate NFO touring partner! In this bumper issue of the Deaf To All But Metal podcast, the lads finally sell out and get sponsorship causing big things to start to happen for the podcast with regards to spin off merchandise. They talk movies that could be improved with metal soundtracks in a loving homage to (read as: rip off of)the Brown Carpet podcast. There is also talk of new metal releases from the month of April, Ross the Boss (actually him, not one of our terrible impressions) says hi and much more! In this bonus episode of the Deaf To All But Metal podcast, Gary Grim and Tain speak to Michael Lueders of Black -Roos Entertainment/Metal-Roos/Metal United Down Under/Metal United World Wide. As you can see, this is guy is very busy. Under these banners, Michael and his wife Anja are putting on gigs to help unite metalheads worldwide as well as managing/promoting up and coming bands to help them get off the ground and into the public eye. Gary and Tain ask Michael about life in Germany, the metal scene in Australia, the difficulties that arise with coordinating metal gigs in 40+ countries on the same date, the dangers faced by Syrian and Iraqi metalheads playing shows to be part of Metal United World Wide, how he has managed to achieve his many successes and much more. It's an interesting listen for metal fans, bands and promoters alike, we hope you enjoy. Yes, hello there, sports fans. Welcome, dear listener, to a bumper issue of the Deaf To All But Metal podcast. In this episode Gary Grim grapples with an unruly stable of podcast hoes, the guys break the silence over Firepower by Judas Priest, they do a label showcase for Iron Bonehead Productions and more. You'll hear plenty of EXCLUSIVE* news about Inquisition, MetalSucks and the Eagles of Death Metal as well as your intrepid hosts doing dodgy impressions of each other. *In this case the word "exclusive" actually means "completely false". In this extra long episode of the Deaf To All But Metal, Gary Grim and Tain are going for quantity over quality! There is a earth shattering announcement regarding the DTABM live shows as well as an announcement regarding a huge show coming up that you can only currently find out about by listening to this episode! The DTABM lads have some special guests, namely Bettie Bandit, Venus Vamp and Chris "Lord" Hawkins, into the studio to discuss burlesque performance and it's place in heavy metal shows. There is some bad improv, more announcements, plugs, Gary Grim does a terrible impression of Michael Lueders from Metal Roos and then struggles to find a tagline for the podcast.
