On this morning's episode of the Metal Breakdown Daily, we are tracking a historic day of massive autumn tour announcements and a definitive truth bomb from one of extreme metal's greatest minds. First, we break down the major news from Scranton alternative metal titans Motionless In White. The band has officially shattered their silence to reveal the second leg of The Sweat And Blood Tour, booking a massive fall 2026 arena run. We give you the complete lineup featuring direct support from Dayseeker, alongside The Devil Wears Prada and Dark Divine, plus details on how to grab early tickets right now using the exclusive Blabbermouth presale code. Next, we shift to Mastodon, who are channeling an incredibly chaotic year of personal tragedy into their newly revealed headlining trek: The Poisonous Weapons Tour. Running throughout September and October, the nationwide run features an elite atmospheric post-metal package with Deafheaven and Alcest. We take you inside the deeply emotional inspiration behind their new Loma Vista standalone single, "Your Ghost Again", and look at drummer Brann Dailor's raw reflections on grieving the loss of his mother and late guitarist Brent Hinds while tracking the new music. Finally, we pull from our exclusive feature interview with the mad scientist himself, Devin Townsend. We asked Devin the ultimate question: Does he get sick of fans constantly begging for a Strapping Young Lad reunion? His brilliant, self-aware response is a masterclass in artistic growth. We discuss why he is deeply honored by the legacy, but why that door remains firmly shut because he refuses to drag his 25-year-old past mental trauma onto a modern touring stage.
What if your mix engineer secretly backed up every session in triplicate just so your grandkids could remix your demo in 2085?In this episode, I'm joined by my brother from another podcast, Matt Boudreau - veteran mixer, Atmos trailblazer, and the host of Working Class Audio. Matt's credits include immersive mixes for Green Day, Alanis Morissette, and the theme for Real Time with Bill Maher, plus stereo magic on artists like Deafheaven. We kick things off recapping our AES Long Beach hang - complete with acai bowl addiction, barefoot sandbox airport vibes, and panels on everything from Japanese air-traffic AI to studio fire insurance. Matt shares how a late-night HBO downmix request accidentally birthed his simultaneous stereo/Atmos workflow, and why he now mixes midrange balance on tiny single-cone speakers before touching highs or lows.We dive into the art of collaboration: why you should wait 48 hours before sending mix notes, how to handle clients who keep salting the same sandwich, and the spreadsheet revision system that's saving everyone's sanity.Matt drops hard-earned wisdom on trusting your gut with red-flag clients, charging retrieval fees for 20-year-old sessions, and why “if it doesn't exist in three places, it doesn't exist.” We geek out over plugins (Gullfoss, Sonible Smart EQ, the return of Echo Farm), archiving nightmares, and why AI is great for laundry but still can't feel heartbreak like a human. Whether you're mixing in a bedroom or a living-room Atmos rig, this chat is pure gold for anyone who wants their tracks to outlive the hard drive.Get access to FREE mixing mini-course: https://MixMasterBundle.comTHANKS TO OUR SPONSORS!http://UltimateMixingMasterclass.comhttps://usa.sae.edu/ The next program starts May 11, 2026 https://www.izotope.com Use code ROCK10 to get 10% off!https://www.native-instruments.com Use code ROCK30 to get 1 month free of NI 360!https://www.spectra1964.comhttps://gracedesign.com/https://pickrmusic.com https://RecordingStudioRockstars.com/Academyhttps://www.thetoyboxstudio.com/Listen to the podcast theme song “Skadoosh!” https://solo.to/lijshawmusicListen to this guest's discography on Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6tdfm7hqzhn1o8PA65I7N0?si=81dbS2cgQLO0d7M3C0vSWQIf you love the podcast, then please leave a review: https://RSRockstars.com/ReviewCLICK HERE FOR COMPLETE SHOW NOTES AT: https://RSRockstars.com/555

All What Did The Blade Reveal. On this week's Talkhouse Podcast, we're giving a nod to the heavier end of things with a conversation between George Clarke of Deafheaven and Jae Matthews of Boy Harsher. Deafheaven is the impossible to pin down metal band that has pushed genre boundaries since breaking out with 2013's epic Sunbather. They've been the subject of much debate in the heavy music community over the years, since they've wiggled elements of shoegaze and even Brit rock into the world of black metal. It's been a fascinating journey to watch, as the band navigates its own muse, seemingly without regard to any genre lines that might exist. 2021's Infinite Granite took a pretty huge leap toward a more accessible sound, while this year's Lonely People With Power heads back into the darkness—even as it's produced by the pop-leaning Justin Meldal-Johnson, whose name comes up in this chat. The other half of today's conversation is Jae Matthews, who's also half of the darkwave-slash-coldwave band Boy Harsher. Deeply influenced by film, the duo's most recent album, The Runner, serves as a sort-of soundtrack to a world they continue to imagine—one full of synths, beats, and lots of mood. As you'll hear in this chat, Boy Harsher has been busy writing new material in a way they haven't before. But in the meantime, Matthews contributed some striking vocals to a truly striking song on the new Deafheaven record. Check out “Incidental II” right here—you'll need to listen to the entire thing to really get where it's coming from. In this conversation, Clarke and Matthews talk about DJing versus performing, about finding inspiration in solitude, about whether being sober hurts or helps a performance, and of course, about Matthews' contribution to Deafheaven's Lonely People With Power. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Jae Matthews and George Clarke for chatting. If you like what you heard, please follow Talkhouse on your favorite podcasting platform, and check out all the great stuff at Talkhouse.com. The names in Fragile Wings suggest softness; tenuous and brittle. And there is desperation in “Hopeless Magic,” “Three-Headed Moth” and, of course, the album title. But the album is anything but fragile. A deft mixture of progressive, death, and post-metal, Australia's Cave Sermon delivers a rousing manifesto, in the same echelon as Deafheaven or Baroness, able to match impenetrable sludge with roaring beauty. We talked to Charlie Park on the Woodhouse.

In this episode, we talk with Doug Wilson, author of Let's Play Two: The Legend of Mr. Cub, the Life of Ernie Banks (Rowman & Littlefield, 2019), to explore the life and legacy of one of baseball's most beloved figures. Doug shares insights into his research process, the hidden layers of Ernie Banks' personality, and what makes this Hall of Famer's story still resonate today. From growing up in segregated Dallas, Texas, to becoming a two-time MVP and a beacon of positivity on and off the field, Ernie Banks' journey is not only a baseball story—it's a human story. Doug discusses the complexities behind the cheerful "Let's play two!" slogan and the cultural and personal weight Banks carried with grace. In Part Two of this episode, we dive into two very different but equally fascinating conversations. First, in a decision that warms Rex's heart, the league has finally removed several long-deceased (and one not so long deceased) players from its permanently ineligible list. On this episode of Vinyl Verdict, Bell, Jamie and Adam listen to Adam's next pick, Deafheaven's "Sunbather". Released in 2013, it was their second album. The album was critically well received, with many reviewers noting its ability to unite elements of other genres and styles into one cohesive sound. On year-end lists for 2013, it was listed as one of the top albums of the year, with many publications saying it was the best Metal album of that year. But will this be the best metal album of this podcast? Will the boys find it "Irrestible"? Come along and find out!

This week we're discussing Lonely People with Power, the latest album by Deafheaven. We've been massive fans of Deafheaven for years, but 2021's Infinite Granite had us split down the middle. Lonely People with Power shows the band returning to black metal in a massive way, shattering any assumptions people may have had that they are now a full-blown shoegaze band. Once again Deafheaven proves they are more than capable songwriters and continue to experiment in innovative ways. Crank this one. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Patreon https://www.patreon.com/everyalbumever Merch https://pandermonkey.creator-spring.com/ Mike's EP: Pander Monkey on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple, Mike on Instagram @pandermonkey Alex on Bluesky @octatron3030 Tom on Instagram @tomosmansounds History Tom's stuff: Music on Spotify, Apple Podcast on Spotify, YouTube Substack Website

This week, 4ZZZ subscriber Vince Kelly is behind the mic, introducing us to his favourite Black-Gaze pics. European bands seem to reign supreme in this genre that marries the harsher, instrumentation of black metal with the mellower, dreamy soundscapes of shoegaze. Expect blast beats and some songs with double-kick drumming along with atmospheric guitar work from European bands such as Alcest, Amesours and Slow Crush along with American artists Deafheaven, Future Magics, Sadness and Astronoid. "CAN WE RETURN, TO THE GOLDEN AGE?" One of my favorite bands from a specific era of time called the 2000's, we have Chris McLane from Stretch Arm Strong on the pod this week! I dig in deep to the bands unconventional location (South Carolina), their relationship with Uprising Records (who is also responsible for the Chicago hardcore band, Fall Out Boy) and how they burned themselves out by touring so relentlessly. The icing on this pod-cake as it were is the fact they just released their brand new EP on Iodine Recordings that smokes. Listen to the pod, then listen to the EP and enjoy! I love when friends do cool stuff. I love when friends are talented. This episode is a one two punch of exactly that. Nathaniel Shannon is a NYC based photographer and you have seen his work...well, everywhere but I specifically had him on the show to discuss a real labor of love and now, it's here...the First Ten Years of St. Vitus. For the uninitiated, St. Vitus is the incredibly important Brooklyn, NY venue responsible for a TON of gigs that you wish you were at. We discuss that book, as well as his upbringing in Detroit as well as an incredibly entertaining Earth Crisis photo shoot we worked together on. Dig in and enjoy! We have a bonafide LIFER on the podcast today in the form of Steven McDonald who is currently playing with The Melvins and is also a founding member of punk legends Redd Kross. On top of that he also has done a lot of production work with bands including Fun/The Format which I punish him about in this chat. We also discuss growing up in Hawthorne, CA (home of The Beach Boys!) and his time growing up in the 80's punk scene. Pull up a chair and let's hang out!
