In today's podcast we focus on hydrogen – zero carbon fuel of the future or an exercise in wishful thinking? That said, as the UK sharpens its focus on delivering a net zero future, hydrogen is increasingly taking centre stage in the national energy conversation. Touted as one of the cleanest and most versatile fuels available, hydrogen holds significant promise for decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors such as heavy industry, construction, and long-haul transport. It also offers a route to greater energy resilience and system flexibility – two critical ingredients in the UK's evolving low-carbon economy. But while the direction of travel is clear, the path to delivery is far from smooth. Despite a government ambition to scale hydrogen production to 10GW by 2030 – with at least half from green electrolytic hydrogen – progress has been slow. Today, only a fraction of this capacity has reached final investment decision, and fewer still are under construction. However, the recent announcement of 27 shortlisted projects in the government's second Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR2) has been welcomed as a step forward in terms of putting in place the subsidies that might secure future production business models. But, and there are always many buts… major questions still remain about how this fuel production might be scaled. Can we develop the infrastructure, market frameworks, and demand signals needed to unlock investment? And crucially, where does hydrogen genuinely add value – rather than simply an expensive distraction on route to zero carbon?Well to find out, I'm joined today by Brett Ryan, Head of Policy and Analysis at Hydrogen UK, the industry's leading trade body in the sector. He is the ideal person to chat through the commercial and policy challenges that are shaping the market, the opportunities that hydrogen presents for UK industry and innovation, and what needs to happen now to convert ambition into action. James McAtee is the latest guest on the Official Man City Podcast! Another of our special homegrown talents, McAtee is enjoying his first season as a regular member of Pep Guardiola's world-class squad. The 22-year-old has already spent more than a decade at the Club, joining our youth ranks from Under-11s onwards. Touted early on as a player that could make an impression at the top of the game, McAtee has worked hard to earn the trust of Pep Guardiola. And in recent weeks and months the Salford-born attacking midfielder has made giant leaps, influencing games and scoring goals whether starting or coming on from the bench. His hat-trick against Salford City earlier this month is already a highlight in what McAtee hopes will be a long time at the Club, while he's also notched his first Champions League and Premier League strikes for City this term. In this chat with George Kelsey and Nedum Onuoha, McAtee details his journey so far and the sporting heritage in his family. He also recounts how two very different campaigns on loan at Sheffield United - the first a Championship promotion and the second a Premier League relegation - have steeled him for the rollercoaster ride of a career in professional football. We're back this week with another horror movie review! We're excited to finally tackle the sleeper hit of 2024: In a Violent Nature. And at least one of us means that literally. In a Violent Nature is a 2024 Canadian slasher film written and directed by Chris Nash, featuring performances by Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, and Lauren-Marie Taylor. Touted as an "ambient slasher," the film centers on a mute killer who is inadvertently resurrected from his grave in the remote Ontario wilderness by a group of teenagers. Once revived, he begins to stalk and murder them. Much of the narrative unfolds from the killer's unique perspective, offering an unsettling and immersive viewing experience.

American neurologist Walter Jackson Freeman had refined Moniz's procedure and developed a non-surgical procedure that could be performed in a doctor's office, which he called a transorbital lobotomy. Freeman's procedure involved inserting a medical instrument similar to an icepick into the patient's orbital socket to sever the neural connections, without requiring surgery, hospital stays, and long recovery times. Touted as a quick, easy, and painless solution to everything from general malaise and occasional depression to schizophrenia and aggressive behavior, the procedure a go-to solution for the very complex psychological problems that have affected countless people for centuries. Unfortunately, while the procedure was effective for a small number of those who received a lobotomy, it was used indiscriminately, often without consideration for the increasingly disastrous outcomes.Today we talk about the tragic and disastrous lobotomy on Rosemary Kennedy and thousands more that occured after it.
