FIFTY EPISODES! HOLY CRAP! I wish we could say we had something special planned for this milestone, but nope...it's just another round of the Nine Circles Audio Thing. The gang gets together for July's Album of the Month: the blistering power metal opus Let There Be Nothing by USPM masters Judicator. Buke managed to wrangle Ian, Angela, Vince, and - in a rare sighting - DAN! Who incidentally had the pick for the month! As Buke points out, this might be the first time a power metal got picked for AOTM, and it's been a long time coming. Though your humble editor didn't get a chance to join in the audio antics, he did write a rather glowing review of the record you can read here. The gang discusses their experiences with the genre, European versus American power metal, the boost in sonics now that they've moved to Prosthetic Records, and how Judicator continues to crush it in the vocal and guitar solo department. All that and a "what else did we dig?" in July featuring copious amounts of praise for new label mates Rebel Wizard, among others. As an elderly man, Gary Grim is visited by two writers who are compiling the story of his life. However, rather than learning about his beginnings, his struggles and his inevitable decline, these writers only seem to be interested in one particular shocking episode of the DTABM podcast... this episode. Old man Grim tells the writers the story of how the DTABM crew spoke about albums released around the time of the episode recording by bands such as Vein, Baptists, the Night Flight Orchestra, Uada, Dopethrone, Morag Tong, Oak, Ovate, Gruesome, Nocturnal Graves, Sleepwalkers, The Konsortium, Craft, and a then yet to be released Rebel Wizard album. He recalls how the lads went on to "break the silence" over not one but two albums by the bands Immortal and Deafheaven. The tales continues with a retelling of a "terrible album debate", a segment the guys had not come up with a catchy title for at the time, with the album St Anger by Metallica getting the DTABM treatment. Then Grim finally gets to the ending of the episode and the big reveal that came with it. What could have happened? What earth shattering news will be revealed? This episode, Tain couldn't escape from the echo chamber located in the DTABM studios and had to subsist for the evening on a diet of desiccated cockroach shells and Gary's flaky skin leavings.
