The incredible and prolific TTRPG designer, Alex Clippinger has joined us this week to give us an inside look into Cubicle 7's new project, Broken Weave, drop some game design knowledge, and talk through some of the benefits and pitfalls of adapting Dungeons & Dragons: Fifth Edition. This was a fantastic conversation covering several topics including points of focus for growing as a designer, expectations we bring to the table, burgeoning out into playing non-D&D systems, and much more.We ended with some pretty major takeaways from this episode that were unique to Alex's experience. A huge THANK YOU to Alex for doing this interview and hopefully this won't be the last time we hear from him. Hello, this is Colin Ketchen. I am the co-creator, producer, co-editor, sound designer, composer and a performer in “Dice Populi: A Tabletop Roleplaying Anthology Series.” Dice Populi uses Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition to unique effect; rather than having a single person command the game from start to finish, every couple of episodes the reins are handed from one player to another. This allows them to tell their own unique stories with their own surprises and rewards, all set in a string of magical islands known as “The Badlands.” The story primarily follows four prisoners as they try to escape these islands and make their way to home or to safety atop these dicey waters. Dice Populi vacillates from hysterical to very serious depending on the circumstances and, frankly, whoever is running the game at any given time. Dice Populi has been nominated in Audio Verse's 2020 Podcast Awards in the categories of “Environmental Sound Design,” an exceptional singular character in “Kalt the Bonemaster,” and for the quality of the whole production. In order to best demonstrate multiple facets of the show, I am recommending for this showcase Chapter 30 of our podcast, “Jerry.” It's an unusual title for a fantasy story, but hear me out! In this story, three of our... let's call them “sailors,” have arrived at this island for a supply rendezvous before being sucked into a time-bending mystery revolving around a missing child. In the previous episode they found themselves on the verge of solving the mystery, unfortunately in the basement of the enemy's keep. In this manic and unpredictable hour of radio play, you'll hear the chemistry of a hilarious cast, including the deep voice and skewed morals of Kalt the Bonemaster, as well as much and sound effects to portray a range of fantastic locations and impossible situations. If you enjoy this standout episode, please consider tuning in for more and voting for Dice Populi in this year's awards. Thank you for listening. https://www.dicepopuli.com/ Twitter: @DicePopuli

Crit Academy discusses Total Party Kill Games Recovery Dice Options: Introduced in Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition, Recovery Dice, otherwise known as Hit Dice, allows a character to recover hit points without the need for healing potions or cure wounds spells. This serves to extend the adventuring day by delaying the party’s need to return to civilization, which in turn allows characters to continue exploring dungeons, looting crypts, and slaying monsters. As described in the core rules, recovery Dice represent a fire and forget healing system requiring minimal bookkeeping. As a result, most players tend to forget about Recovery Dice in the middle of a fight. Recovery Dice Options takes the concept and runs with it. Rather than relegating Recovery Dice to the role of emergency healing, this sourcebook provides a range of optional ways for characters to use this mechanic. These options extend this game mechanic far beyond the realm of healing. Does your barbarian desperately need another rage? Could your wizard benefit from regaining a spent spell slot? Desperately need to shake off a condition affecting your character so you can prevent a TPK? This sourcebook provides these possibilities and many, many more.
