Fratello On Air returns with Balazs and Mike in the same room! In this episode, Balazs travels to Frankfurt and amongst some surprise topics, the duo decides to engage in a collection spotlight. Hear about four attractive watches from each. Enjoy it!Yes, Balazs has made his way north from Karlsruhe to Mainhattan. Both decided to check out the local Seiko boutique and dine on the Fratello favorite: schnitzel. Then, it was time to record an episode where it was time for a collection spotlight.Handgelenks KontrolleThis week's Handgelenks Kontrolle features some exciting new arrivals. Mike is wearing his new 1965 Grand Seiko 5722-9970 Chronometer, which Balazs hand-delivered! It's a neat piece that was made for Toshiba employees who were celebrating 25 years with the company. Balazs surprises us all with the new Vulcain Skindiver Nautique, a lovely retro diver in either dark blue or black. We can't wait for the review when this launches on the 18th!Mike was recently on the Spirit of Time podcast and there was a decent amount of pocket-watch talk. So, Balazs has elected to surprise us all with a real collection spotlight as he has brought three amazing Angelus pocket watches. The large piece is a porcelain-dialed chronograph, the upper piece is an alarm complete with a fold-out stand, and the piece with the long stem was made to time rotary telephone calls. Amazing!Collection SpotlightAmongst some other banter, we get to our main topic, the collection spotlight. For this section, we each decided to choose two of each other's watches for discussion. Next, we cover:MING 17.09, a watch that Balazs has been considering for quite some timeZenith Yugoslavian Air Force chronograph with an EP4 caliber, a truly stunning piece with a dial that has been "eaten" by radiumGallet Decimal, is a lovely chronograph with an EP4 caliber that has a fun backstoryAngelus Dato 12, a stunning watch with a minty gold-plated caseFinally, we thank you for listening. Happy New Year! Yes, 2023 is here, and we're bringing you the latest episode of Fratello On Air! Balazs and Mike are ready for another rip-roaring year, and they start with a bang. The modern Rolex secondary market and the CPO program are back in focus. We're back — sort of. Balazs has returned to Germany from Hungary while Mike is still hanging out with the iguanas in sunny South Florida. They reminisce about the holidays and strike up some banter about other topics. The Rolex CPO program and the modern Rolex secondary market overall are the subjects of today's episode. There are dreamers out there, folks, and they still believe we are in the salad days of April 2022.Handgelenks KontrolleBefore discussing the Rolex secondary market, we dip into the Handgelenks Kontrolle. This time, we talk about the watches that we wore most during the holidays and share what is currently occupying wrist space. For Balazs, his trip to Hungary had an ulterior motive: he picked up some new old watches! He's sporting a Zenith from the '50s with a black dial and an Excelsior Park EP4 caliber. The watch was likely made for the Yugoslavian Air Force, and we discuss how it compares to his Angelus 215. Mike is wearing his trusty Citizen Promaster BN0220 in the heat and taking it to the pool every day.The modern Rolex secondary marketHere's a bold take: the modern Rolex secondary market is falling apart, and the decline shows no sign of slowing. During the holiday, we've been cruising the internet, looking up prices for current models. It's clear that the market peaked back in April 2022 and that the downward trend has been constant since then. However, we pick on the current GMT-Master II "Batman" and chuckle at a current ad on Bucherer's website for a CPO model listed for CHF 21,000! This is all while similar models are available in droves for 25–30% less. Similarly, we note that tone-deaf dealers are still listing watches such as the 36mm Datejust for 60% over retail while similar pieces exist for 10–15% over list. We dig our heels in and declare that a newer Rolex will not hit our wrists at a premium. Finally, we profess our love for vintage (even 10-year-old) Rolex watches because finding a minty model is so much more challenging. We hope you enjoy this episode, and we look forward to spending 2023 with you! Feel free to reach out if you'd like to suggest a future show topic.

I've been getting a lot of questions lately about the 2023 Zenith of the “WE,” so today I'll give you a recap. The 3,000-year pendulum of Western Civilization* is energized by two good things that oppose each other: Every 40-year “ME” cycle is driven by the hunger for individuality and freedom of expression.Every 40-year “WE” cycle is driven by working together for the common good.We begin each of these cycles with the best of intentions; but then we take that good thing too far – all the way to the zenith at one end of the pendulum's arc – and begin to mourn what we left behind. 20 years up to the zenith, 20 years back down; then we begin our 20-year journey up to the opposite zenith; then 20 years back down to complete the 80-year roundtrip. There are two reasons why so few people say, “Hey, I remember this!” 1. We don't notice the truly important when we are distracted by the merely urgent.2. The pendulum is in the same position – headed in the same direction – just once every 80 years. How often do you listen to a 90-year-old when they say, “Back when I was 10 years old…” The 40-year “ME” cycle that began in 1963 was built on individuality and freedom of expression. That “ME” zenithed in 1983, then it slowly deflated until 2003. That's when we began our current “WE” cycle. And like every “WE,” it began with the beautiful dream of working together for the common good. As we reach the zenith of that “WE” – 2023 – we see the consequences of taking “working together for the common good” a little too far.Okay, a lot too far.Every zenith of a “WE” cycle is a time of intense opposition and strong beliefs. We feel that anyone who believes differently from us is stupid and evil and must be stopped at any cost. 1783 – The Revolutionary War ended on Sept. 3 with the Treaty of Paris. We spent the next 5 chaotic years writing and adopting – state by state – the Constitution.1863 – The middle year of the U.S. Civil War. Lincoln was assassinated 2 years later. Chaos.1943 – The middle year of America's involvement in WW II. Two years later we nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki.2023 – (We shall see what we shall see.) Religiosity is often intense at the Zenith of a “WE” cycle. Disagreements often result from a lack of definitions of terms. For the purposes of this discussion, these will be the definitions of Faith, Religion, and Religiosity:Faith is that in which you place your greatest confidence.(Science? Politics? Deity?)Religion is the formalizing of a code of orthodoxy around your Faith.Religiosity is weaponized religion.Every reader takes from a text what he brings to it.“It is a short distance between believing you possess an error-free message from God and believing that you are an error-free messenger of God. The minute I believe I know the mind of God is the minute someone needs to tell me to sit down and breathe into a paper bag. As a general rule, I would say that human beings never behave more badly toward one another than when they believe they are protecting God.”– Barbara Brown TaylorYou can get ancient scriptures to confess to whatever you want if you torture them long enough.“The history of the world shows that when you place an ego and a spiritual text (the Bible, Torah, Quran, Bhagavad Gita, etc.) in the same room, the text will always end up in a chokehold.”– Michele Miller-NelsonEvery person deserves to be remembered for their finest moment. From what I know of Ernest Hemingway,
Fratello On Air comes at you with a new episode. This time, we're talking about our horological hopes for 2023. Of course, there's some typical banter along with some pre-holiday cheer. Settle in by the fireplace (or at the beach, perhaps) and enjoy our last episode before Christmas.2022 absolutely blew by and we're now less than two weeks from entering a new year. With that, we have hopes for 2023 and we get into some of our prognostications and questions. The economy looks a tad shaky and that may spell opportunity for some and trouble for others. What will the next year bring?Handgelenks KontrolleBefore discussing our hopes for 2023, we have a chat about the seriously cold weather in Germany. We then move on to a couple of shows that we have either enjoyed or are enjoying — Car S.O.S. and Wheeler Dealers. These are fun shows that just might appeal to a vintage watch nerd who likes the thrill of the hunt for obscure parts while taking in some history. Then, it's time for the Handgelenks Kontrolle. Mike is wearing his Rolex GMT-Master 16758 with a "nipple dial" on a German-made strap with reindeer embossed on it. Balazs keeps on the brown theme with his MoonSwatch Mission to Saturn. Our Hopes for 2023We bounce around a lot during our main topic: our hopes for 2023. We refer to the Rolex market and the fact that watches are slowly becoming more available at AD's. Mike also surmises that limited editions will continue in force to help keep people addicted. Both Balazs and Mike have become more excited about what the independents will do next year and even discuss what MING could offer. When it comes to Omega, the duo feels that the Speedmaster Professional could be in play with exotic materials and/or new dial colors. Regarding Tudor, both are flummoxed when it comes to guessing what could come next. Finally, we'd love to see a Zenith diver, a genre that the brand needs to address. We hope you enjoyed this episode and if you're celebrating in the next week or so, have a great time! As always, feel free to let us know if you have a topic that you'd like us to cover in a future episode.

Hello and welcome to yet another exciting edition of The HourTime Show, the official podcast of WristWatchReview.com. Your hosts this week are John (@johnbiggs on Twitter), Victor (@vmarks), and Nicholas (@nicholasadeleon). One quick note: Producer Andrew is traveling over the next few weeks so Nicholas is handling editing duties. It *should* sound fine but, unlike Andrew, Nicholas is not a professional editor. You've been warned! Moving on. John opens the show with his thoughts on the Benrus 3061, which we basically all love. If you look up "field watch" in the Watch Geek Dictionary you'll see a photo of it. Not bad for a $600 jawn that was featured in the movie Bullitt! We then turn to a topic Nicholas saw in a local newspaper about how everyone hates Daylight Saving Time, and that its days may be numbered. We go into the history or "point," perhaps, of switching the clocks back and forth every spring and autumn, and basically land on the idea of: pick one and stick with it. At this point, Victor brings up Swatch's old idea, from the late 90s, of "Internet Time," which was an attempt to create a universal time zone, in a sense, that used a measurement called beats and was featured in Phantasy Star Online. Let's bring it back! Victor then runs us through a $30,000 Zenith psychedelic chrono that he believes resembles those old Trapper Keepers. Lastly, we go over the Omega MoonSwatch. Turns out that A) John bought one in Poland a few months ago and B) it's going on tour over the next couple of weeks in a few cities in California and Florida. So, if you want a MoonSwatch and live in one of these cities, feel free to hit up Swatch on social media for more details. And that, as they say, is that. Keep it locked to WristWatchReview.com and @wristwatchreview on Instagram for more fun watch content. Thank you for listening, and have a great week!
In this episode we start with two novelties: the Nomos Club Sport Neomatik 37 and the Linde Werdelin Oktopus Moon 20th anniversary watch.Auction season is nearing, and in November both Phillips and Christie's will host auctions in Geneva. Highlights of the Phillips auction are, of course, the three George Daniels watches we discussed before. In this podcast we highlight some other lots, including a trio of Patek Phillipe 5970's and a unique Zenith x Voutilainen X Phillips, developed with the 1950's 135-O caliber.Christie's is auctioning a fantastic collection, including 12 Girard Perregaux pieces, a one-off Parmigiani Toric with Westminster gong and a platinum F.P. Journe with a red dial and Ferrari logo.
Do you use the same reply to people when they say “how are you?” No matter how you actually feel? Maybe you think “they don't really want to know anyway”? The Fijians beg to differ. This week on the show, we've got Blake, Thomas, Zach and Patrick in the studio to talk about some of the more interesting recent releases to come across our desks. Norqain's new Wild ONE is at the top of mind, and the gang puts on their materials scientist hats to ponder the pros and cons of carbon fiber, and wonder what this new Norteq material is all about. The team also discusses the latest release from Massena and Habring, which is a gorgeous perpetual calendar chronograph, and in the course of the conversation we learn that at least one member of the crew is actually not into chronographs at all. Can you believe it? To find out who, you'll have to listen. Also, send us your ideas for how Thomas Calara can test the new Apple Watch (but keep it relatively safe and sane) in the comments below.
