New supporter Gareth has chosen a cult classic comedy horror movie this week with 1990's Tremors. Tremors was a collaborative effort between director Ron Underwood, producer Gail Katz, and writers S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, who crafted a unique blend of science fiction, horror, and comedy. Filming took place primarily in the arid landscapes of the California desert, specifically in the small town of Lone Pine, which provided the perfect backdrop for the film's fictional setting of Perfection, Nevada. The production team faced the challenge of creating realistic, underground monsters known as Graboids, which required innovative practical effects. The creature designs were brought to life by the visual effects team led by Amalgamated Dynamics, who used a combination of animatronics and puppetry to create the menacing and memorable Graboids. Despite a modest budget, Tremors benefited from a talented cast that included Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, and Reba McEntire, whose performances helped elevate the film's quirky humor and charm. The filmmakers strived to balance suspenseful moments with comedic relief, making the movie appealing to a wide audience. Upon its release, Tremors received positive reviews for its clever writing, engaging characters, and practical effects, which set it apart from typical creature features of the era. Though initially modest in box office success, it garnered a strong cult following over the years, leading to several sequels and solidifying its status as a beloved classic in the genre. This episode Nez and Taylor go up against a new kind of Graboid in the 1996 horror/adventure TREMORS 2: Aftershocks. After spending all the reward money from his first encounter with the giant man-eating worms called "Graboids," Earl Bassett (Fred Ward) agrees to hunt more of the deadly creatures at a Mexican oil refinery for $50,000 each. Knowing that he cannot face the monsters alone, Earl recruits Burt Gummer (Michael Gross), another veteran of the incident in Nevada, to supply the firepower. We need to talk about a small town named Bomont where music is outlawed, and dancing is forbidden. Why, you might ask, would any city make dancing an arrestable offense? Maybe because if they dance, the vibrations will awaken the beasts underground, and gigantic sandworms will burst out and eat everyone! We're absolutely delighted to be joined by S.S. In an unexpected twist of events, this week, we're coming from separate locations, due to some inclement weather. As such, that means that Erik wasn't able to bring a paired beer for this week's episode, so consider this our first 'BYOB' episode, where both of us are drinking what we bring! And, funnily enough, both of us decided to go with an Imperial Stout, with Erik's coming from local favorite Three Taverns Brewery, while I cracks open a Milk and Cookies Stout courtesy of Wicked Weed Brewing company over in Asheville, NC. This week's film? One of the schlockiest B-movies of the 90's, Tremors! This cult-classic stars Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward, and is essentially 'Jaws in the desert'. It's an absolute blast, and features some of the best character development of any creature feature you'll come across. So kick back and enjoy our conversation about two of our favorite things: cold beer and scary movies!Follow us on Instagram, and say hi!
Stephanie, Joe, and the Mayor are back in Perfection alongside Burt Gummer as he continues to have the worst luck ever. No matter how many killer dirtworms (aka Graboids) he takes out, they seem to follow him all over the world. This time, back in his hometown, will he be able to stop them for good? Given that there are 7 Tremor's movies, I'm guessing no. At least we can have fun roasting all of this ridiculousness along the way. This week... *Sigh* Cheer has another laps of memory, Dan can't get a word in and Paul climbs aboard the Bipolar Express... Released in 1990, "Tremors" is a classic monster movie directed by Ron Underwood. Set in the fictional town of Perfection, Nevada, the film follows two handymen, Val (Kevin Bacon) and Earl (Fred Ward), who discover that their small desert town is being terrorized by enormous subterranean creatures that can detect vibrations in the ground. Nicknamed "Graboids," these creatures are massive, carnivorous, and capable of high-speed underground travel. As the town becomes increasingly isolated, Val, Earl, and a group of eclectic characters must use their wits and resourcefulness to survive the onslaught of the Graboids. "Tremors" stands out as a blend of horror, comedy, and action, creating a unique and entertaining experience. The film's success lies in its combination of suspenseful moments, humor, and well-executed practical effects. The camaraderie between Val and Earl, along with the quirky residents of Perfection, adds a lighthearted touch to the intense and thrilling scenes. The movie has gained a cult following over the years, with its memorable creature design, witty dialogue, and effective blend of genres contributing to its enduring popularity. "Tremors" has spawned multiple sequels, a television series, and remains a beloved classic in the creature feature genre. The ultimate underground movie! This week, Peaches and Michael dig deep in celebration of 1990's TREMORS! In addition to discussing how this fan favorite brought the creature feature into the modern era, our hosts delve into the phallic nature of the Graboids. Joining the conversation is THIS ENDS AT PROM's Harmony Colangelo, whose lifetime of love for this ongoing franchise has made her the unofficial “Mayor of Perfection.” Then, CERTIFIED FORGOTTEN's Matt Donato stops by to examine why this comedic horror's legacy not only endures, but breaks new ground. From dusty daddy Fred Ward to survivalist siren Reba, this episode has it all! Go!
Katie and Bridget make their way to Bixby but then immediately keep turning around as they re-watch the movie: Tremors! It's a story all about a small town... Filled with dust... That is ransacked by giant man-eating worms! Eek! Come along as we meet Kevin Bacon - er, we mean, Valentine - a dude who never has a plan but also never forgot those sick Footloose dance moves (and neither did we); Earl, the ultimate wing man and honestly most go with the flow guy ever; Rhonda, a grad student who really is the only one who knows what's happening and YES we should all listen to her; and Burt and Reba (aka Heather), two doomsday preppers who thank god were there otherwise everyone would be screwed! Unfortunately not everyone makes it out of the town of Perfection alive (RIP Grandpa) and the folks have to band together to outsmart those Graboids! Will Kevin and crew be able to defeat those worms? Should pole vaulting be left to the Olympics!? Released in 1990, it stars Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Michael Gross, Reba McEntire, Finn Carter, and our fan favorite Victor Wong (aka 3 Ninjas Grandpa).

Tremors 3 Back To Perfection movie review from the Salty Nerds has them liking this Tremors sequel a little better than the second film, but not by much. By this point in the Tremors franchise, Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward are nowhere to be found, so Michael Gross steps up to the plate as his character Burt Gummer is now the main character of the series. We return to the small town of Perfection Nevada where many of the original actors from the first Tremors film reprise their roles, albeit 11 years later. This time, the Graboids return, but evolve yet AGAIN into a new form that is better than the Shriekers from the second movie, but with an even more ridiculous name. What is your Tremors 3 review? Tremors 2 Aftershocks movie review from the Salty Nerds has them feeling like they were denied vital, need-to-know information, because this sequel falls far short of the classic original Tremors. Fred Ward and Michael Gross are back for the second installment of the Tremors franchise, but Kevin Bacon is nowhere to be found. This time, the Graboids evolve into a less scary version called Shriekers, and now both the comedy and the tension is extremely lacking. But Burt Gummer is back, and he's the highlight of the film, so at least there's that. What is your Tremors 2 review? Did you like it? Hate it? Did it deserve to be a direct to video sequel? Oil your harmonica and $hit-kick your boots, the Graboids are coming to Perfection, Nevada! This classic 1980's script literally dirty-talked its way into the 90s, and made Kevin Bacon reel with horror at what he saw as the nadir of his acting career, only to turn out one of the most efficiently written and enduring examples of American Comedy-Horror ever put to screen. Get your pants off, and pole vaunt to the next residual boulder, these godd@mn recrooms aren't going to break into themselves! RIP Fred Ward #GaryNumanKenkuArtificer #andlegsthatgoALLthewayup
