I feel like I'm not getting anywhere with Jesus lately...That's normal! Sometimes, sticking with your faith isn't about feeling inspired. It's about continuing to show up when it's boring, confusing, and hard. This week, we're talking about spiritual perseverance and our ability to hold tight to Jesus; especially when it feels like our relationship with him just isn't going anywhere.Because sometimes faithfully following Jesus after graduation isn't dramatic or exciting like it was on campus. Sometimes, it's just about that small, faithful decision to keep showing up.RELATED EPISODEE169: Overcoming Doubt: When Feelings and Faith Don't Match (YouTube, Spotify, Apple)STAY IN TOUCHSocials: @afterivpodVisit our Website ★ Support this podcast ★
"I walked away for a pretty long time..."No one expects to walk away from their faith after graduation. It was definitely a huge surprise for Rocco. He'd been highly involved in his InterVarsity chapter. He attended Urbana. And he was excited and hopeful about life after graduation. But loneliness, overworking, and extremely intelligent co-workers who didn't believe in Jesus left him experiencing an unexpected crisis of faith. This week, we hear Rocco's story of walking away from Jesus after graduation. But walking away wasn't the end. Through a series of events that sound like the setup to a bad dad joke, one lonely evening in the middle of a work trip the Holy Spirit, Rocco's campus staff, and his grandma intervened. And everything (slowly) started to change for Rocco.RELATED EPISODESE171: Disappointing Faith. Unfailing God. What do I do when my faith experience feels... disappointing? In this candid episode of After IV, we welcome InterVarsity alumna Erica Spanjers to talk about the highs and lows of post-college faith. Jon and Erica explore what it means to follow Jesus when church communities let us down, when spiritual growth feels slow, and when God's presence seems quiet. With themes of church hurt, spiritual disappointment, and resilient hope, this episode offers real encouragement for alumni navigating transitions, faith deconstruction, and building (or rebuilding) trust in God after graduation.RELATED EPISODESE169: Overcoming Doubt: When Feelings and Faith Don't Match (YouTube, Spotify, Apple)E166: Where Does God Want Me to Go?: Developing Tools for Discernment (YouTube, Spotify, Apple)STAY IN TOUCHSocials: @afterivpodVisit our Website ★ Support this podcast ★
When you look back, do you see Him? In part two of our conversation with Heather Thompson Day, we talk about the power of reflection, the slow work of spiritual growth, and the ways God shows up—often in hindsight. Heather shares how journaling, gratitude, and persistent hope have helped her recognize God's fingerprints even in seasons of silence and waiting. We also explore what it means to prosper in God's kingdom (hint: it's not about success), how to live generously even in lack, and why your faithfulness matters more than your clarity. If you've been wondering where God is in your story, this episode will help you find Him in the details.ResourcesVisit heatherthompsonday.comPurchase What if I'm Wrong: Navigating the Waves of Fear and FailureFollow @heatherthompsondayRELATED EPISODEE169: Overcoming Doubt: When Feelings and Faith Don't Match (YouTube, Spotify, Apple)STAY IN TOUCHSocials: @afterivpodVisit our Website ★ Support this podcast ★
In part two of our powerful and wide-ranging conversation with Scott, we explore how faith in Jesus shapes leadership, the realities of military life, lessons from parenthood, and what it means to have moral courage in the face of adversity. We also hear what it's like to fly helicopters on peacekeeping missions and in war zones from Bougainville and East Timor to Afghanistan and Iraq. Scott's story is one of conviction, sacrifice, and spiritual grounding.
Feel Thankful Gap Ingratitude The recipient is always aware. The culprit is rarely aware. Not feeling something. Unexpressed gratitude is experienced as ingratitude. Luke 17:11-19 // Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” 14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. 15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him He went back to thank the one who enabled him to move forward. Luke 17:11-19 // He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. 17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? The nine… where? Luke 17:11-19 // Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.” They felt it. They didn't express it. Unexpressed gratitude communicates ingratitude. Ingratitude feels like rejection. Gratitude to God is worship. Gratitude produces worship. Todah - A thanksgiving choir Barak - To kneel in thanksgiving Tehillah - To sing a song of thanksgiving Halal - To give thanks by being clamorously foolish Yadah - To give thanks with extended hands Zamar - To give thanks with a musical instrument Shabach - To give thanks in a loud tone, to shout Psalm 100:4 // Enter into His gates with thanksgiving (Todah - A thanksgiving choir), and into his courts with praise (Tehillah - To sing a song of thanksgiving). Be thankful (Yadah - To give thanks with extended hands) to Him, and bless (Barak - To kneel in thanksgiving) His name. Psalm 100:4 (Paraphrase) // Enter into His gates with a thanksgiving choir and into His courts with singing praises. Be thankful by extending your hands to Him, and bless Him by bowing before His name. Miracles produce gratitude. Luke 17:16 // He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him Obedience produces miracles. Luke 17:14 // When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. Walk by Faith Don't let anyone out-grateful you.

In the book of St. Luke chapter 22, verses 31 thru 32, Jesus foretells Peter's denial of Him. Verse 31 says, "And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: (Verse 32), But I have prayed for you, that your faith fail not:" At some point in your Christian walk, your faith and your loyalty as a follower of Christ will be tested. Rest assured that the enemy will come to tempt you or deceive you, the same way he deceived Simon Peter. But know that when you are tempted or tested, the Holy Spirit will not only intervene, but He will make intercession for you, to strengthen you, so that your faith does not fail. I pray that you will be Blessed and Encouraged as you listen to the show today in Part I of this episode, "Faith Don't Fail Me Now!" ~Dr. Lynn --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/drlynn-goebel/support

This time of year everyone seems to be talking about the New Year and their resolutions. It’s an exciting time, but let’s face it, things don’t always go as we’d hope the January before. Some of you may God-given dreams yet to be realized or good intentions that have failed to produce results. The pounds you vowed to shed last year still linger and books you wanted to read are left untouched on the nightstand. Resolutions are nice but rarely produce success because they are vague. Today we are here to help you leave behind your good intentions and talk about a few ways to approach the New Year that won’t leave you discouraged.
