INGRATITUDE. Jesus said, “Ten were cleansed, were there not? Where are the other nine?” If we do not stay close to Jesus in the Eucharist and in prayer, we can fall prey to ego, pride, and a lack of humility. As St. Thérèse of Lisieux said, "Jesus does not demand great action from us, but simply surrender, and gratitude." Join the conversation: anycatholicconversation@gmail.com

There is a truth given to us by Jesus that we need to believe. It's actually to our advantage that Christ would go to the Father SO that the Spirit could be sent to us. The hope in this series would be that we would come to believe this as ardently as Jesus, Himself AND that we would long to know and enjoy all that we have in the Person and work of the Holy Spirit of God. Ellie is a curious 5-year-old girl with lots of questions. In GRATITUDE, she is frustrated when a playdate by her favorite magnolia tree is spoiled by a rainstorm and decides nothing goes her way. Her Mom encourages her to stay focused on all the good things she has in her life with an attitude of gratitude. Ellie realizes she is so thankful for her family, her home, and even the rain which helps flowers grow. She loves art so her mom gives her a set of paint along with stepping stones. Each time she reflects on something she is grateful for she paints a stone. She is thankful for her dog Rose, teachers, smiley-faced pancakes, her healthy body, and nature. Soon she has created a colorful path of stones that leads from her front door to the magnolia tree. She finds JOY in everyday things, no matter how big or small. She completes the path of stones and now sees beauty everywhere and no longer needs to paint a stone because she is practicing gratitude all on her own!

By Sal Cimino, Sr. - One of the most common sins of mankind, yet commonly unnoticed, is the subtle sin of ingratitude, something that can easily separate us from seeing or remembering what has been provided for us by other people & especially not (showing gratitude) for being thankful to God for all his blessings.

In spite of all the blessings and conveniences that we have, we grumble. Thank or thankfulness is mentioned 103 times in the Bible. Ingratitude is a sign of the last days.

At the root of all ingratitude is the love of one's own greatness. But genuine gratitude glorifies God because it admits that we need him.
In this sermon, John MacArthur examines 1 Thessalonians 5:18, where Paul instructs believers to "In everything give thanks." MacArthur emphasizes that gratitude should be a constant aspect of the Christian life, regardless of circumstances. He contrasts this with the ungratefulness characteristic of unbelievers, highlighting that thankfulness is a distinguishing mark of believers. By recognizing God's sovereignty and His work in all situations, Christians are called to express gratitude in every circumstance Date Preached: Nov 24, 2019 Scriptures For more information about this sermon, please visit Grace To You Ministries. How can we develop a grateful home? 1) Model gratitude by being heart thankful. (It's a heart matter and a choice.) 2) Model gratitude in our gratefulness to God. (Site verses from previous episode) What has Christ done for you? Count your many blessings! Psalm 68:19, “Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.” 3) Model gratitude in our gratefulness for our spouse, family, and others. Some “Instigators of Ingratitude,” according to Choosing Gratitude: Unrealistic Expectations Forgetfulness Entitlement Comparison Blindness to God's Grace (on us; on others) 4) Model gratitude in our ability to be grateful during stressful, busy, difficult, or even painful seasons. 5) Model gratitude in response to stress and busyness: In the midst of relentless ministry deadlines and seemingly endless, tasks, I find that the ‘burden' of my workload is lightened when I approach it as a high and holy calling, a gift to be received with gratitude.” Choosing Gratitude, NDW, In response to difficulty or pain: “Do we only give glory to God for the part of our life that's going the way we want? Or do we…give Him thanks, just because He is God—regardless of the dark, painful,…places we encounter…? 6) Model gratitude by expressing it! Model gratitude by expressing it in all those same spaces and places: to the Lord, our spouse and family, and others. Smile it! (A grateful heart, makes a happy heart, which makes a happy face.) Say it! (Aloud and Often.) “Silent Gratitude isn't much use to anyone,” Gladys Berthe Stern. Write it! (Thank you notes for gifts, for help, for just because.) Encourage family and corporate expressions of it! (Church, family altar, ` family table, reminders of gratefulness instead of grumbling, willingness to be humble and admit when we are ungrateful.)

QUOTES FOR REFLECTION“I wonder if one of the sins we are entertaining beneath all other sins is discontentment, a lack of gratefulness, a lack of thanksgiving. What if when the serpent came, instead of entertaining him, [Eve] thanked God for what He gave her thus far? ‘I've got God and I'm thankful! I've got all these other trees and I'm thankful!'”~Jackie Hill Perry, writer, poet, and hip-hop artist “The thing at bottom is, that men have low thoughts of God, and high thoughts of themselves; and therefore it is that they look upon God as having so little right, and they so much.”~Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) New England minister and theologian “Sin is the dare of God's justice, the rape of His mercy, the jeer of His patience, the slight of His power, and the contempt of His love.”~John Bunyan (1628-1688), writer and preacher “A madman is not someone who has lost his reason but someone who has lost everything but his reason”~G.K. Chesterton (1874-1936), author and literary critic “Time and again, studies have shown that performing simple gratitude exercises, like keeping a gratitude diary or writing letters of thanks, can bring a range of benefits.…. [T]he more practice you give your brain at feeling and expressing gratitude, the more it adapts to this mind-set ... a sort of gratitude ‘muscle' that can be exercised and strengthened.” ~Dr. Christian Jarrett, British cognitive neuroscientist “Remember that this God in whose hand are all creatures, is your Father, and is much more tender of you than you are, or can be, of yourself. “Consider solemnly, that though the things you fear should really happen, yet there is more evil in your own fear than in the things feared…. Fear is both a multiplying and a tormenting passion; it represents troubles as much greater than they are, and so tortures the soul much more than the suffering itself.”~John Flavel (1627-1691) in Keeping HeartSERMON PASSAGEselected passages from Proverbs and Romans (ESV)Proverbs 35 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.8 It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. 9 Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce… Romans 1 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

Feel Thankful Gap Ingratitude The recipient is always aware. The culprit is rarely aware. Not feeling something. Unexpressed gratitude is experienced as ingratitude. Luke 17:11-19 // Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” 14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. 15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him He went back to thank the one who enabled him to move forward. Luke 17:11-19 // He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. 17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? The nine… where? Luke 17:11-19 // Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.” They felt it. They didn't express it. Unexpressed gratitude communicates ingratitude. Ingratitude feels like rejection. Gratitude to God is worship. Gratitude produces worship. Todah - A thanksgiving choir Barak - To kneel in thanksgiving Tehillah - To sing a song of thanksgiving Halal - To give thanks by being clamorously foolish Yadah - To give thanks with extended hands Zamar - To give thanks with a musical instrument Shabach - To give thanks in a loud tone, to shout Psalm 100:4 // Enter into His gates with thanksgiving (Todah - A thanksgiving choir), and into his courts with praise (Tehillah - To sing a song of thanksgiving). Be thankful (Yadah - To give thanks with extended hands) to Him, and bless (Barak - To kneel in thanksgiving) His name. Psalm 100:4 (Paraphrase) // Enter into His gates with a thanksgiving choir and into His courts with singing praises. Be thankful by extending your hands to Him, and bless Him by bowing before His name. Miracles produce gratitude. Luke 17:16 // He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him Obedience produces miracles. Luke 17:14 // When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. Walk by Faith Don't let anyone out-grateful you.

“You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.” Taking a look at the first commandment, we see how we are called to love and worship God above all else. The Catechism also lists the ways in which we may potentially fall into sins against faith, hope, and charity. Fr. Mike elaborates on these violations and reminds us that while it may seem overwhelming, God loved us first, and we must trust in him. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2083-2094. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB.
