James 5:1–6 warns the rich, but what does it mean for us today? Discover the Bible's truth about wealth, greed, and storing treasures in heaven instead of on earth.. This powerful message challenges us to examine where our treasure truly lies, because where your treasure is, your heart will also be.
This morning, we will continue our month-long exploration of the Revised Common Lectionary by studying the Gospel of Luke. In Luke 12, Jesus shares many lessons on faith and practice, and as we worship, we will listen as Jesus instructs the disciples on generosity and sacrificial giving before leaving them with one of the most enduring lessons in scripture, "where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Sermon on Luke 12:32-34, delivered by the Reverend David J. Powers on August 10th, 2025.
Faithfulness. Unfailing consistent practice of loyalty regardless of extenuating circumstances. But there are always circumstances, right? Very legitimate things come up. Unexpected events, new opportunities, situations beyond your control. Does consistent loyalty even exist anymore? Has it ever? While man has a broken faithfulness at best, the good news is we serve a perfectly faithful God! Because of His faithfulness, we have this fruit of the Spirit. And, if we focus on the faithfulness of the Lord, we can foster the growth of this fruit within us; even in a world where faithfulness is hard to find.
Delivered by Pastor Brad Smith 27/07/25. These 3 attributes offered by God, turn the simplicity of mercy, compassion and forgiveness into a powerhouse of opportunity. God's intentions towards us are certainly not hidden or distorted when we have a good understanding of how God works and what his real nature is. Jesus' death and resurrection have opened the door to more blessing than ever. Our own minds, along with the words of the Accuser, are going to constantly try to bring the past back up, acting as if it is today's headlines. The more we press into the Lord and His love, the less this will occur, and the more we can deal with it in health.Listen to Psalm 85:7-10 …Show us your unfailing love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation. I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. But let them not return to their foolish ways. Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him, so our land will be filled with his glory. Unfailing love and truth have met together. Righteousness and peace have kissed! (NLT) For many of us, the past had plenty of foolish ways. So we have to constantly take inventory of our lives to invite the words God speaks, to listen carefully to Him as He speaks truth to us. When we hear Him and do what He asks, then our land—our homes—can be filled with His glory and love, truth, righteousness, and peace will mark our lives. Is there any foolish way from the past that you know needs to be kicked out of your house, so to speak? Is there a new level of listening to God, a new place of obedience, that you need to commit to hear Him as He speaks peace to you?Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, show me your unfailing love and grant me your salvation. I listen carefully to what You say as You speak peace. Help me to not return to foolish ways. My salvation is near, so my home will be filled with Your glory, Your unfailing love, truth, righteousness and peace. As above, so below.”

Welcome to Day 2642 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Day 2642 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 69:16-21 – Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2642 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2642 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. In today's Wisdom Nugget, today we continue our deep dive into the raw, emotional depths of Psalm 69 in the New Living Translation. In our previous treks, we've joined the psalmist in his desperate cry for help, feeling overwhelmed by literal and metaphorical floods. We've seen his anguish over unjust accusations and the profound pain of being mocked for his sincere devotion to God, even by his own family and the lowest members of society. Now, as we delve into verses 16 through 21, the psalmist intensifies his plea for divine compassion and vividly describes the cruel abandonment and bitter rejection he experiences in his suffering. This section is particularly poignant, capturing the essence of feeling utterly alone in a sea of hostility, desperately longing for God's presence and comfort. While steeped in the ancient Israelite experience of shame and ostracization, these verses also carry a prophetic weight, foreshadowing the ultimate suffering and rejection of the Messiah. For our purposes today, we'll focus on the psalmist's immediate human anguish and his appeal to God's merciful character. So, let's open our hearts to these words of desperate appeal. (Reads Psalm 69:16-18 NLT) Answer me, Lord, for your unfailing love is good. In your great compassion, turn to me. Don't turn away from me, for I am in distress. Answer me quickly, for I am in trouble. Come and rescue me! Save me from all my enemies. Guthrie Chamberlain: The psalmist's plea begins with an urgent, direct appeal to God's character: “Answer me, Lord, for your unfailing love is good. In your great compassion, turn to me.” Having laid bare the depth of his suffering and the injustice he faces, he doesn't appeal to his own merit, but solely to God's inherent goodness and mercy. “Unfailing love” (hesed) is that steadfast, covenant-keeping love, loyal and true, even when circumstances seem to contradict it. “Great compassion” speaks to God's deep empathy and pity for those in distress. The psalmist is essentially saying, “God, because of who You are – because of Your good, unfailing love and Your great compassion – You must respond to me.” This appeal to God's nature is a powerful lesson in prayer for us. When we feel overwhelmed, instead of focusing solely on the problem, we can anchor our prayers in the unchanging character of God – His love, His mercy, His power, His faithfulness. The urgency of his situation is palpable: “Don't turn away from me, for I am in distress. Answer me quickly, for I am in trouble.” To have God “turn away” would be the ultimate abandonment, a sign of divine displeasure or indifference. The psalmist desperately fears this. His distress is acute, his trouble immediate. He isn't asking for a leisurely response; he needs God to act now. This urgency highlights the direness of his situation, where every...

The letter of Romans strengthened the ancient church, brought reformation to the dark ages, has brought hope for 2000 years, and can change your life! This week Pastor Joel continues Part 2 of his message series in the book of the Bible called Romans, “Bold Faith That Wins”. Are there some ideas in the Bible, such as God's sovereignty, that make you uncomfortable? This week, Joel looks at one of the most controversial texts in the Bible, Romans chapter 9. Paul gives us three powerful warnings in verses 6-13: don't count on your physical lineage, your moral superiority, or earning God's favor. And most of all, God doesn't want you to figure all this out, He wants you to rest in His sovereignty. This is a special four part series that will span the year of 2025. Following a climactic exclamation of God's love in Romans 8, Paul quickly changes tone and talks about the sorrow and anguish of heart that he has for the Jewish people. Although they were entrusted with so much, many of them relied on their spiritual heritage for salvation instead of looking to Christ in faith. How about us in the American church? Are we relying on our heritage for salvation? Salvation comes through belief in the promise of God's Son, not our genetics or by good works. What about you? What is your faith in? Learn with us as we look at Romans chapter 9:1-13.
"I messed up again." Does that sound familiar? In our battle with sin, we find ourselves making the same mistakes. But Genesis 20 shows us that our failure does not negate God's faithfulness.

A message from our sermon series Anchored - A study in Hebrews. Hebrews 10:1-18.
We all long for loyalty but human loyalty has limits. In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally, shares about loyalty that we can depend on. Psalm 8:4 ESV What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?It doesn't make sense. Because although God doesn't need us, evidently He wants us. Exodus 34:6 ESV The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, "The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness." There is a Hebrew word in God's self-description: hesed.Hesed is a word mentioned 247 times in OT. Here are some ways its translated:Unfailing love, steadfast love, faithful love, constant love, gracious love, loyal love, lovingkindness, mercy, goodness, and favor. Pastor Jamie's definition:Hesed is the dependable and enthusiastic loyalty, kindness and support that is received when someone is in relationship with God. Lamentations 3:22-23 "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."This is the relationship written on your heart that you have judged every other relationship by. You were hardwired for Hesed. What do the Psalms say about hesed?1. God's hesed never ends.Psalm 136:1 2. God's hesed isn't earned.God's loyalty isn't a loan He expects to be paid back—it's a gift with no strings attached. Psalm 106:43-45 NLT 3. God's hesed is pursuing you.Psalm 23:6 ESV Your sin and your shortcomings can't outrun the love of God. God's mercy moves faster than your mistakes. What is our response to Hesed?1. Worship God.Psalm 63:3 NKJVSince God's love never quits, our worship shouldn't either. 2. Give God your loyalty.Loyalty shouldn't just be received; it should be returned.Proverbs 3:3 NLT His loyalty toward us should move us into our own loyalty toward Him. 3. Love people.God's love fills us, not only for our own benefit, but so we can pour it out on others.Romans 13:8-10 NLT Notice love is an obligation, not an option. You don't have to follow the 10 commandments if you'll just follow the one commandment.Let's stop letting others determine how we act—we have hesed.Since you're loved by God, love like God. While we fail to show up, wander away, and even forget about God, He is faithful, He never forgets us, and He is there waiting for us to return to Him. Exodus 34:7a NLT I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations... God's hesed love is faithful for 1000 generations, or 40,000 years! No failure, no mistake, and no amount of distance can separate you from His hesed love and loyalty. How are you responding to God's loyal love?
