She was the voice behind one of the most well loved kids series of the 70s.Gay Soper was the person who brought to life the world of The Flumps. Pootle, Perkin, Posie, Ma and Pa Flump and Grandpa Flump all became real characters thanks to her tremendously talented acting. But though kids of the 70s remember the Flumps fondly, there was actually only 13 episodes in total. Here Gay tells Ashley where The Flumps came from and how she came up with their voices, developed their characters and navigated a tremendously created script written by Julie Holder.Presented and produced by Ashley Byrne. Ever keen to provide wholesome cultural repasts for the dark winter nights, The Peggy Mount Calamity Hour reaches into its televisual trove of years past and pulls out a couple of absolute bangers to fill that entertainment hinterland betwixt Hallow'een and Christmas... First up is is warmest, sweetest hug one can get from a programme as Doctor Velvet and Blackout venture oop-North with some magnets to hang out with The Flumps. And to offset this excursion into unparalleled goodness, they jaunt back dah'n Sah'hf to mid 1980s London, as brash cynicism and sitcom-subversion are the order of the day with the Girls On Top. What, exactly, is causing the laws of physics to routinely misbehave around the metal objects of Flump Towers? What, precisely, is causing the four headline stars of a prime-time sitcom to routinely speak over each others' lines in Oak Park Gardens? And what, for the love of all that is holy, has Alan Rickman's hairdresser been inhaling? The answers are but one exquisitely animated - if thoroughly un-rehearsed - click away... Been a long time coming this episode. I've meant to speak to Kathryn Williams – whose music I've loved since I was a bruised hearted teenager in the North East of England, a region that neither of us were born in, but came to call home – for ages now. Life happened. But with Kath's excellent new, 14th studio album, Night Drives out and about, I thought I needed to make it happen... and fast! Kath is on a writing retreat, so I was grateful to her for making the time to speak to me. She's also on her phone when we connect, so it means the audio is a bit scratchy in places. But hey, if you sat through a lot of the early episodes of The James McMahon Music Podcast, you've heard worse. And I think what follows is an interesting, sometimes very funny conversation - about recording on a budget, singing when no-one is listening, The Flumps, the brilliance of Ed Harcourt, robot Jimi Hendrix and more - with one of Britain's most consistent songwriters… The James McMahon Music Podcast is a Spoook media production. Are you sitting comfortably? Then PD and Daz will begin. This week's episode sees the lads take a trip down memory lane to discuss the finer points of some childhood classic from the 70s and 80s. The likes of BOD, Jamie and the Magic Torch, The Flumps and The Drac Pack all bring back fond memories for the boys who never grew up...
We discuss the surprising news that Berrow is Neil's 'dream job', Amy's rapid exodus, Phoebe's never-ending one and The Flumps. Welcome to another brilliant and wonderful episode of the podcast where we work out the opposite of things that don’t have a natural opposite. This week, thanks to excellent suggestions from our delightful listeners, we work out the opposite of sausages, of elevator music, and of The Flumps. So, are we right, or are we the opposite of right? Let us know, and come and join the fun, because joining in is all sorts of fun.

Waffle On about Children's TV shows Part One Welcome to this months edition of Waffle On. Here we talk about some children's television shows that we watched back in the 1970's. As you will notice that we have put Part One up in the title and that is because we will be doing another one on shows shown in the 1970's and of course the 1980's. There are so many kids shows we could have talked about but we whittled this down to some of our favourites. We also have comments from Antony from the scuttercast, Boz from Here Goes Nothing and emails from Dan Vieira and Cherly Hough. If you loved Mr Ben, Bagpuss, The Flumps and more this show is for you and as always if you don't know these programmes then stay tuned and hopefully you will find something you like and go search for it.
