Greavesy is joined by Daz and Nathan to go over the win at Wolves in detail. Zian Flemming takes his chance to be the Clarets main striker but there was so much more to that win. Parker's tactics dissected - the excellent displays from the full-backs and keeper Martin Dubravka.

Welcome dear listener to First State Kopites. The podcast of the Premier League Champions. I'm Paul and today I am joined by Daz and Justin. Podcast has been slow in recording….Part One:‘I was incredibly disheartened last night by the general reaction to the result, and the poor analysis that followed in many quarters; even from some of the more rational analysts. I find the hysteria after defeats far harder to take than actually just losing a game of football, even if that part is painful too.Part Two: Eintracht Frankfurt - WINNING is good.Liverpool suddenly had that second-half performance from 1-3 to 1-5 was their best thirty minutes of the season. Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones. The pair were bright as buttons throughout, epitomised by the fourth and fifth goals.. Florian Wirtz was just as bright. His ability to find space is tremendous, touches here and there, clever movement and excellent passing. He found his hips and showed them and as we know, hips don't lie.Ekitike was outstanding again. The oddness of our current reality is that Alexander Isak and Mo Salah are finding it hard. Ekitike isn't. Cody Gakpo is finding bits hard but ends tonight with a goal and an assist. Federico Chiesa wants a fight. Wants to scrap for every yard and in the second-half he is the absolute business. As part of that, attacking some corners with aplomb is no bad thing and both centre-halves do their share - MILAN AWAY LAST YEAR. As part of that, exploiting an opposition weakness is no bad thing. As part of that, picking teams which make it easier for the footballers is no bad thing and has just happened for what feels like the first time in a while.Liverpool aren't a perfect outfit but that doesn't preclude any achievement yet. Tonight they looked like a team and that is a step forward. NOTE the ball in play time and the absence of a prick of a referee….. None of this means anything is permanently fixed, but permanently fixed is a teeny bit overrated. The issue with contemporary football is the speed of change. In the autumn of 2024 Paris St Germain looked like a skewed joke. By March they looked irresistible. Nothing stays precisely in position for any length of time and you are constantly having to work things out.Tonight was like taking off tight shoes. It made the world easier, the Swiss System easier, your brain easier. The brain is the main thing. We should want the pressure; just not yet. Today helps.Part Three - from the United game:Liverpool have now contested a staggering 256 aerial duels in just eight league games; which equals 32 per game. The Man United game involved 34. Last season the average in Liverpool games was just 20.3 per match. The increase per game from last season means a staggering 58% more aerial duels, which is almost another sport. At the current rate, Liverpool will contest 500 extra aerial duels this season than in 2024/25. Liverpool are still top for aerial duels won at – a massive 58.2% – which is elite for a team. The Reds are great in the air, full stop. But the sheer number being slung at the Reds means over 100 of the 256 have been lost; that's why long-ball teams play the numbers game (you can't win them all, but the ones you win can lead to goals in the chaos). FootnoteLiverpool also created as much xG (2.8) in 2023 when Cody Gakpo scored two in a 7-0 win as when the Reds scored just one yesterday, when Gakpo scored, missed a big chance, and hit the post three times (two with superb shots).‘Get Saturday boxed and go from there. I love taking off tight shoes. You always need to be prepared to put them back on because you wear tight shoes because they are the good ones.'If you enjoyed the pod, please share it with a friend. Send us a textThe Battle of Agincourt With ( Mark Wheatcroft )In this episode of the American Civil War & UK History podcast, host Daz is joined by historian Mark Wheatcroft to discuss the Battle of Agincourt, which took place during the Hundred Years' War on October 25, 1415.The Battle of Agincourt was a significant English victory where a heavily outnumbered English army, led by King Henry V, defeated a larger French force. The battle is renowned for the effectiveness of the English longbowmen against the French cavalry and heavily armored men-at-arms, who were hindered by the muddy battlefield conditions. Historical accounts do not support any direct connection to "spray arms and armor" in relation to the battle.Mark's English History Channel: [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/@marksenglishhistorychannel665/videos)ACW & UK History's Website: [Website](https://darrenscivilwarpag8.wixsite.com/acwandukhistory)ACW & UK History's Pages: [Linktree](https://linktr.ee/ACWandUKHISTORY)Support the show

Send us a textThe Battle of Edgehill with ( Mark Turbull )On this episode of American Civil War & UK History podcast, host Daz was joined by author Mark Turbull to discuss the Battle of Edgehill which was the first pitched battle of the English Civil WarsThe Battle of Edgehill was fought near Edge Hill and Kineton in southern Warwickshire on Sunday, 23 October 1642. All attempts at constitutional compromise between King Charles and Parliament broke down early in 1642. Both the King and Parliament raised large armies to gain their way by force of arms. In October, at his temporary base near Shrewsbury, the King decided to march to London in order to force a decisive confrontation with Parliament's main army, commanded by the Earl of Essex.Support the show link.(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/AcwandukhistoryACW & UK History's Website.https://darrenscivilwarpag8.wixsite.com/acwandukhistoryACW & UK History's Pages.https://linktr.ee/ACWandUKHISTORYSupport the show
Season 6 continues with our mid-week banter episode of The Photography Pubcast—zero pixel-peeping, maximum stories. Dave drops a wild US road-trip saga (hello high-altitude cerebral edema, wheelchairs, and sheer grit), including the hot take: “Yellowstone is an abomination.” Jamie unveils his retirement side quest: metal detecting in Roman-rich Peterborough (coins, brooches, even a medieval gold ring). Daz reveals a big house move after 21 years (and a monster fence build), while Sam returns to guitar and AI stem-splitting to revive old band demos—Beatles-style workflows without the studio bill. Gary quits cricket, angles for golf, and somehow leads us into the great sock–shoe order debate. We also clash (politely) on phones in schools, doom-scrolling, and the future of newspapers and photography magazines in a streaming world. This is the second half of our new two-episode format: photography chat on Sundays, banter on Wednesdays—so tell us what you prefer.Jump in the comments:• Sock order—right-left or left-right? Sock–sock or sock–shoe?• Should phones be banned in schools?• Do you still buy print newspapers/magazines?• Metal detecting crew: your best Roman/medieval finds? If you enjoy photography podcasts, landscape chat, UK creatives, metal detecting, AI music, and real-world fieldcraft, smash Subscribe and ring the bell.

Season 6 kicks off with a brand-new format: two episodes a week — one pure photography chat and one for the banter. In this photography-only episode, Gary, Jamie, Daz, Sam and Dave dive into autumn colour forecasts (mast year for acorns, conkers and berries), how storms shift woodland photography timing, and whether the UK peak is late October to early November. We debate Iceland's new drone restrictions at iconic waterfalls, National Trust policies, drone etiquette, and when aerial footage elevates a YouTube vlog versus becomes noise. Dave shares dramatic frames from a US road trip (Snake River, Colorado canyons, Tetons) and a real-life cliffhanger; Sam reveals a misty river scene where sleeping in beat sunrise; Gary brings Durdle Door, Broadway Tower, and moody interiors; Daz sparks a thoughtful critique on subject vs. colour in woodlands. We also react to Kase launching an 85mm f/1.4 portrait lens — smart competition or tough sell?If you're into landscape photography, woodland colours, drone videography, gear talk, and real-world fieldcraft, this is your episode.
Welcome dear listener to First State Kopites. The podcast of the Premier League Champions. We are going to review Chelsea last Saturday, with the benefit of few days distance. I'm Paul and today I am joined by Daz and Sean. Away at Chelsea - xG 1.0 (0.11 first half) to 1.95 (0.64). 4 big chances to their 2.Immediate reaction vs. the chance to watch it again. How different were the narratives versus what actually happened:Start well - Gakpo, Bradley, Kerkez, Isak, Szobo, Salah all look brightGoal 15th - VVD covering Malo Gusto, after Macca has been tricked by Caicedo. Fluidity was affected by the goal. Also, just an incredible strike by CaicedoWe need to realize that Georgi is left footed! Ball gets turned over after he tries to kick with his right.Big chance for Szobo from Cody at 19; Isak header from Salah at 44, 46 big chance for Salah, after Gakpo, Wirtz combo. 53 - Salah blazes over in 4 on 4 - Isak and Gakpo in space. 65 - Isak is free when Salah shoots over.First really dangerous moment from Chelsea - Fernandes header on 80. 84 - 2 shots and decent saves from Marmadashvili. A pummelling someone said. 91 Fernandez header. Robbo less solid defensively?Last 10, more chaotic, though the main danger came from the one chance where Endo and Robbo could have done much better. We also have a couple of chances at the end (Szobo and Jones). Some players seemed focused on winning others not sure - Endo left wingThemes from elsewhere:Much chat about an overload on the left - not much evidence of it, save the Bradley yellow. Gakpo makes us look relatively solid on the left.Subs - Curtis, Andy Robbo. Help moving forward. We also moved Szobbo to RB and Grav to CB. But their subs gave them some energy especially in the last 10VVD brought up the challenge they are facing managing the grief of Diogo's passing.Chelsea hate segment:Cole Palmer in a space suit? He is typical Chelsea, just the worstCucurella - what a Sh*tLavia (who has played about 3 games) tries to whip up the crowdAnthony Taylor watch - loves to kill our momentum8th minute - imagined foul by Konate kills our momentum24 - Garnacho goes down without contact 26 - Salah non-foul30 - Caicedo challenge on Dom, nasty, no card of course34 - Bradley - yellow for Cucurella goes down with some contact39 - Garnacho dive…. 45 goes down again without contact73 - hands in Isak's face 79 - Diabolical yellow on Szobo for more Cucurella nonsense82 - Foul by Malo Gusto on Gakpo - not given87 - gives a soft foul against Salah - guess who goes down (clue Garnacho has already gone off)5th best team in the league? We'll be back with a preview of the Manchester United game in quite short order. Andrea explores how this gang played a surprisingly significant role in financing various aspects of the Union effort during the Civil War by producing large-denomination counterfeit treasury notes and supporting banks aligned with the Lincoln administration.Additionally, the book highlights how the criminal networks in Monroe connected with political corruption and criminal elements in Chicago, including the so-called "Kentucky Colony" and the Levee Lords. Welcome dear listener to First State Kopites. The podcast of the Premier League Champions and still the league leaders. We are going to review Galatasaray away earlier today and consider Palace last Saturday . I'm Paul and today I am joined by Daz and Justin. Every reaction to both games starts with the result.Part one - away at GalatasaraySlot - lot to like in the first half, second half the ball wasn't in play muchBeing refereed by the French Michael Oliver didn't help with the flow of the game - 66% possession and we ‘commit' 14 fouls to their 12. A penalty…..You can say get on with it, but if he calls a foul every time you have a free kick into the box….And we still had a non-penalty xG of 1.78 to 0.54Update on Kerkez, Wirtz (Dalglish) and IsakThis doesn't really matter…Part Two - away to PalaceWorst first half under Slot? The Palace specific plan did not seem to work. The goal created a really poor reaction - Ibou, Bradley in particularSecond half - much better - xG of over 2. We had 6 big chances (they had 7 overall)Could have done with Ekitike. Welcome dear listener to First State Kopites. The podcast of the Premier League Champions and current league leaders. We're going to review Atletico at home last Wednesday and yesterday's Merseyside derby. I'm Paul and today I am joined by Daz and Enrique. Part one - Diego Simeone's boys - great in concept but just awful in practice:Another last minute winner, after Atleti being the better teamxG 2.72 vs 0.61Really annoying first goal from them - what is offside anyway?A performance with a lot of positives - Wirtz, Isak, Grav and Szobo, SalahReally great second goal scored by Mo Salah - with his 45th UCL for Liverpool, 7th on the list of scorers for one teamDetailed action:2 - foul by Lenglet on Ryan4 - free kick dribbles through to Andy? Or a pass to Isak?6 - fantastic 1-2 with Ryan G. Mo!!30 - bad foul on Isak by Le Normand35 - no penalty - The man's suffered enough at Anfield35-40 chance after chance - Mo, Isak x247 - their goal, wtf offside rule? 65 - Mo hits the post…80 - deflected goal from fuckin Llorente85, 87 - Konate, Ekitike almost92 - he's Virgil van DijkBottom line - 1 of 5 wins needed in the group stage and we pissed off Diego SimeonePart two - the boys in blue xG 0.9 to 0.7, almost all in the first half.Great first halfSecond half - ran out of energy but not mentality - it's a 12.30 and there's been insufficient recovery time. But no need for a last minute winner.Grealish - under appreciated genius or the most professional diver of allRyan Gravenberch… Macca, Kerkez10 - Ryan great finish just after Ndiaye falls over16 - Salah almost24 - Gakpo/Salah break27 - Dewsbury-Hall - big chance?29 - Macca - Grav - Ekitike - awesome goal36 - Beto - big chance?46 - Guehye - big chance56 - chance for Mo58 - slow to pick up Gueye for the goal70 - Wirtz almost72 - Konate header blocked74 - Szobo free kickBottom line we beat the Blues and we pissed off Jack GrealishFinal thought - Southampton Carabao Cup rotationWon't be seeing VVD, Ryan, Dominic and Ibou….Boring (Incorrect) football narratives #neededWhy did they sign Hugo Ekitike?Always talk about Liverpool's spendingArsenal have the best depth in the leagueWe will be back with a Palace and Galatasaray preview. Send us a textThe Battle of Chickamauga With ( Civil War Breakfast Club )In this episode of American Civil War & UK History, host Daz is joined by the hosts of The Civil War Breakfast Club Darin Weeks and Mary Fincher to discuss the Battle of Chickamauga The Battle of Chickamauga (September 19–20, 1863) was a major Civil War clash fought in northwestern Georgia between Union forces under Major General William Rosecrans and Confederate forces under General Braxton Bragg. It marked the end of the Union's successful Chickamauga Campaign and became the bloodiest battle of the Western Theater, with about 34,000 total casualties. After two days of fierce fighting, Confederate troops broke through the Union line, forcing Rosecrans' army to retreat to Chattanooga.Check out the Civil War Breakfast Club here
Welcome dear listener to First State Kopites. The podcast of the Premier League Champions and current league leaders. This is a review of Burnley away last Sunday. I'm Paul and today I am joined by Daz. Focus mainly on Burnley - 3 talking points:Were we lucky? xG of 2.65, OK not all great shotsAnd the Red Card…Was the Burnley approach a surprise that we didn't quite figure out5-4-1 with a discipline I've seldom seen - xG 0.13, 90 passesLots of blocks - ‘smothered, smothered, smothered - no clear opportunities. How much do we think Liverpool have gelled?45 to 65 lots of control. Wirtz benefiting from no Macca Did we do enough to move their defence around?Separate Atletico review pod - we assume you may be listening to this after that gameElsewhere in the league:Next 4 games - Everton, Palace, Chelsea and United‘It will be Amorim's rotten luck if he makes it to Anfield only to witness the day when Slot's new side gets fully acquainted with each other'.We will be back with an Atletico review and an Everton review in the next week. Welcome dear listener to First State Kopites. The podcast of the Premier League Champions and league leaders. It's the eighth podcast of the season so far. Reds now have three wins out of three going into the international break. We beat Arsenal by 1-0 despite the prevailing narrative pre-game. I'm Paul and today I am joined by Daz and Sean. Part One - God, Arsenal are a tough watch. STERILE!!National narrative, Arsenal missed an opportunity with Liverpool playing poorly. Only 2 Arsenal players had a positive OBV (On Ball Value) - advanced metric that assigns a value to each action a player takes in line with the positive or negative impact it has on the probability of their team scoring and conceding. My narrative, is a set piece your only way home? And the time wasting - jeez. That's a lot of money to spend on a low block. Arteta has not won at Anfield.Physicality was rewarded - Timber on Gakpo 9m, Zubimendi on Gakpo at 35 Gabriel on Salah at 42 - in between Ryan gets a soft yellow. Eventually Zubimendi gets a card. They do play in Arteta's image - Exhibit A - Timber at 92m; Merino dive at 37First half played on Arsenal's terms. Passing lanes blocked, we live to get set pieces. Even then the VVD interception from Raya's pass out could have led to moreSecond half - especially after Curtis came on (54), we took a few more risks - the offside goal, the Salah first touch moments and then the foul on Jones that led to the free kick:That free kick though - Neville roundly mocked for suggesting it was like Ronaldo. The man who hasn't scored from a free kick in years.Ali marshaling the Liverpool wallAnfield - now 19 games unbeaten at home. Crowd really picked up in the second half - ‘Where's your European Cup?'Part Two - season so far:The spending conversation - ‘kings ransom'. We've sold over $200m, Arsenal may have sales of $30mWe look for value and will pay for generational talent (a la Billy Beane)Chelsea and their own personal VAR, 2 points behind us.We'll be back with a preview of the Burnley game. Thanks to Sean and Daz for joining me, Paul. And most of all, thank you dear listener for joining us.If you enjoyed the pod, please share it with a friend. Welcome dear listener to First State Kopites. It's August 27th. I'm Paul, joined by Daz. Little different today - just focused on reviewing the Newcastle game - 3-2 to the Reds. Lot to go at - hope to bring some perspective to what ends up being a nice, comfortable:() win.Short version Newcastle turned this into a battle - with the rhetoric beforehand and the actions of certain players. I was fearful for our team's safety.Context - 2 very difficult games against them and their tactics last season. I think it plays into the cautious approach. One of harder aways anyway. And then there's Isak.Theme #1 - More defensive woes:Overall, their onslaught and carnage - words used by the commentator. Couple of chances around the 30 minutes mark, maybe 60 to 65 and then 85 to 95 there was lots of getting it launched. A Hooper call every time they fell down - 62% possession and still lost the foul count 17-15. Forever the minecraft man (Ref Cam). How about we call it both ways was Virg's clear message, but the cards for Liverpool were right, but they appeared a lot more latitude (Trippier, multiple Guimares fouls) Kerkez - indefensible defending - aside from that was he OK?Konate - the high line for the goal - the unfortunate deflection. Missed passes, the unnecessary push on Barnes.Lots of long balls from us, weren't winning enough of the second ballsTheme #2 - the major characters in the battle:Some unhinged emotion out there - determined to intimidate Hugo EkitikeGuimares (yellow for dissent, nothing for all the fouls), Burn (yellow for 2 nasty little fouls on Mo) and then Gordon seemed determined to inflict physical pain on us. Aside from kicking Cody Gakpo in the head, not so much from Joelinton.Tonali - funny that he injured himself, needs a few lessons from Gordon.Note on time wasting - at 30 minutes self-aware Geordie pointing at his watch.Theme #3 - bright spots. The watch without the same jeopardy - Newcastle 0.98 xGAnother late winner against Newcastle. At 2-0 it looked so under control until the high balls/long throws finally have an impact - before 55, we look so comfortable.100th minute - best piece of footy, well if Curtis had connected with Mo's pass in the first half it might have been that.Rio, Ekitike, Gravenberch (his goal was not ‘out of nothing'), VVD, Dom! And Ali.Might take time to see the very best of Wirtz but there are some signsWe'll be back with a preview of the Arsenal game, and then a review of that match next week.. Thanks to Daz for joining me, Paul. And most of all, thank you dear listener for joining us.If you enjoyed the pod, please share it with a friend. Send us a textHenry VII with ( Nathen Amin ) England's King's & Queens Podcast In this episode of the England's Kings and Queens Podcast, host Daz was joined by author and historian Nathen Amin to discuss Henry VII.Henry VII (28 January 1457 – 21 April 1509), also known as Henry Tudor, was King of England and Lord of Ireland from his seizure of the crown on 22 August 1485 until he died in 1509. Welcome dear listener to First State Kopites. The podcast of the Premier League Champions. It's the fourth podcast of season 7. I'm Paul, joined by Sean and Daz. The new season started Friday night - we will reflect on the game against Bournemouth, look ahead to Newcastle and take a sideways glance at what went on elsewhere.Part One: Bournemouth at home:Acknowledging Diogo - beautiful from start to finish; NBC with surprising empathy. Lovely celebrations (inc Luis Diaz). Bournemouth fans had a Diogo bannerAt 36 minutes, Dixon says that Bournemouth have quieted the crowd - Hugo scores in the 37thThey kept going on about the atmosphere at Old Trafford - Robbie Mustoe was great in calling out how special Anfield isNo room for racism peopleTheme #1 - Defensive woes?Bournemouth physicality and Taylor's light touchThe left back story - Kerkez being targeted? Semenyo certainly played down that side. On replay he actually looked OK. Frimpong was relatively safe. 3 big chances given up - only 17 given up in the 17 home games before we won the title I read. All from transition. At set pieces - they had a line of Gakpo, Etitike, VVD, Szobozlai and Ibou - Konate won a lot of headers.Theme #2 - Attacking richesSo much verve and what could have been once these guys have even more time togetherHugo Ekitike - the movement, the ability to play between the lines cf GyokeresAt 2-0, looks like a third is comingChiesa - the song? the finishVAR - Michael Oliver and ‘a terrible excuse for a poor decision'Theme #3 - control vs. greater riskSubs made us look worse - until we settled downMac Allister - Wirtz - Ekitike, boy is that exciting, but could mean greater riskAli's 300th appearancePart Two: Newcastle away on Monday nightTeam selection? Gravenberch, Macca, Bradley?Newcastle's industrial midfield and wingers in attackIs a point a good result?Part Three - Looking ahead at our ‘rivals'Arsenal and Man United - Hot takesMan City - they are back…Chelsea - ‘World Champions' (insert throwing up emoji). We'll be back with a review of the Newcastle game. Thanks to Daz and Sean for joining me, Paul. And most of all, thank you dear listener for joining us.If you enjoyed the pod, please share it with a friend. Welcome dear listener to First State Kopites. The podcast of the Premier League Champions. It's the third podcast of season 7. I'm Paul, joined by Justin and Daz for the first time this season. The new season starts in 3 days - we will reflect on several things, including another week of Newcastle Gutter watch, the Community Shield and also look ahead as Liverpool seek to defend their title.Part One: Interesting/difficult pre season:Acknowledging Diogo - Played 6/7 pre-season games including Community Shield last Sunday.Overall themes - good/exciting going forward, conceded goals on the breakEkitike, WirtzIs assimilating all those new players realistic?Remember 2022-23 Community Shield - Darwin etc.Morton, Luis Diaz and Darwin departures - 169GBP. Incomings - 250GBP. Still looks like they have money to spendIsak and the Newcastle GutterThe Guehi saga?Part Two: End of the phony warKick off at Anfield on Friday against a Bournemouth team that has lost its defenceTeam selection? No Gravenberch but Macca should be back?Anything but a win is going to be super deflating. Is a Champions League run more realistic given the bedding in period?Part Three - Looking ahead at our ‘rivals'Arsenal - Gyokeres fever - he scored against Athletic Club.Man United still attracting players? Sesko at 79m GBP. Baleba? They meet at the weekend. What to expect?Man City - too many unknowns? Cherki not Wirtz. Nico Gonzalez and Savinho are surplus to requirements alreadyChelsea keep on buying - will need to now they have lost Colwill. Expectations - what financial shenanigans allow them to make so much back from their sales? We'll be back with a review of the first game. We had some technical difficulties trying to live pod before the Palace - hoping to work that out for some post-matches. Thanks to Daz and Justin for joining me, Paul.
