This week on History Rage, host Paul Bavill is joined by historian and author Mark Ellis, known for his gripping Frank Merlin detective novels and his latest work, Boom Time: True Crime in World War II London. Together, they traverse the shadowy underbelly of wartime Britain, revealing the grim realities that lay beneath the celebrated Blitz spirit. The Dark Side of the Blitz: Mark passionately confronts the myth that the British public maintained a dignified composure during the war. He unveils the shocking truth: crime surged by 60% from 1939 to 1945, with ordinary citizens engaging in looting, black market dealings, and even violent crime amidst the chaos.Notorious Criminals: Delve into the lives of infamous figures like Gordon Cummins, the 'Blackout Ripper', and John Haig, the 'Acid Bath Killer', whose heinous acts thrived in the cover of darkness. Mark shares harrowing accounts of wartime crimes that challenge the narrative of British resilience. The Black Market Boom: Explore the expansive black market that flourished during the war, as spivs and organised gangs capitalised on rationing and scarcity. Mark explains how these operations were not merely opportunistic but well-planned criminal enterprises that included everything from armed robberies to the theft of military supplies.Police Struggles: With police numbers dwindling as many officers enlisted, Mark discusses the challenges faced by law enforcement in combating this surge in crime. The episode highlights the corruption and complicity within the ranks, as some officers became entangled in the very criminal activities they were meant to suppress.American Influence: The arrival of American troops brought both camaraderie and chaos, introducing their own brand of crime and racial tensions to the streets of London. Mark reveals how the differing legal systems between the UK and the US created unique challenges for law enforcement and military justice.Join us for this eye-opening exploration of crime in wartime Britain, where the reality of human behaviour starkly contrasts with the glorified myths of the Blitz. We're generating more solar and wind power than ever before, but somewhere between where it's made and where it's needed, the energy system can't keep up. Bongani Bingwa speaks to Isaac Mangena, City Power spokesperson, about the alarming blackout at the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in November 2025 , a facility treating some of the country’s most vulnerable patients. The outage, triggered by an alleged R41.5-million debt owed to City Power, came just over a year after a separate June 2024 interruption caused by a cable fault. This time, however, the hospital’s backup generators failed to kick in, raising urgent questions about contingency planning, financial governance, and the operational resilience of critical health infrastructure. 702 Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa is broadcast on 702, a Johannesburg based talk radio station. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkdAIHwwwKA&t=76s 26 Nov 2025 Joti Brar Thanks to @revolutionaryblackoutnetwork for letting us reproduce this video. Last week I spoke with Nick Cruse of the @revolutionaryblackoutnetwork about what Marjorie Taylor Green and Zohran Mamdani can tell us about the state of bourgeois politics in the imperialist heartlands. We also talked about the creation of controlled opposition, with a particular focus on the pseudo-revolutionary anticommunism of imperialist agent Leon Trotsky and the movement he spawned (Trotskyism). We discussed the true impact of the Soviet Union during the period of VI Lenin and Josef Stalin's leadership of socialist construction, and just why and how workers in the west have been lied to about the USSR's phenomenal achievements. Meanwhile, the US ruling class continues its genocidal campaign to try to starve the Cuban people into submission. After decades of resisting such efforts, what is the source of the tremendous resilience of this tiny island nation? We also spoke about the economic crisis that is gripping the world capitalist system; why it is driving the monopolists and financiers into ever more war, and why we can expect more lay-offs and more austerity at home. The truth is clearer than ever: socialism or fascist barbarism. We can keep begging for crumbs that are not going to come and keep allowing our rulers a free hand to drown the world in blood, or we can take hold of revolutionary Marxist science, build a real working-class organisation, and wage a determined struggle for socialist liberation. Hosted on Acast. Double Tap Episode 434 This episode of Double Tap is brought to you by: Swampfox Optics, Night Fision, Blue Alpha, Medical Gear Outfitters, Rost Martin, and Bowers Group Welcome to Double Tap, episode 434! Your hosts tonight are Jeremy Pozderac, Aaron Krieger, Nick Lynch, and me Shawn Herrin, welcome to the show! Krampus- http://welikeshooting.com/krampus - Dear WLS David K - Shot tons of guns and suppressors on multiple platforms, but a buddy recently picked up an FN 509 and said it was a good host. So, what makes a gun a "good suppressor host"? whoever readsthisisgay - Why won't Xtech ship their freedom extensions to mag-restricted states? I travel outside my home state regularly to shoot and want to be able to swap out my spring/baseplate when I go to free states. Also, it's a spring and baseplate, not a magazine; there are no laws restricting them, and if someone wants to disobey unjust laws in an act of civil disobedience, that's on them. Nick's OtherLover - "Im looking at suppressors. Im not a db hoe, I just want it to tame the noise a bit. My biggest concerns are flash mitigation and small size. Before you say shit about earpro, I keep my Sordins on so I can talk shit to my friends over radio. Some notes." Spenser F - Now that new frontier armory is out of business. Is there another company that makes mp5 mag lowers for the ar9? Sour Nut - If a wood chuck could chuck wood, would they pick a red dot to put on a revolver? If so, what red dot would it be? I bought a S&W TRR8 need to put a dot on it for maximum fuckaround points, also actually deer hunting with it. No Notes Carpet Beaver - I would like to practice some dry firing. I'm looking at the dry fire mag and Mantis system. Have you tried these two together. P365XL. I know you guys have ran the Mantis system before and wondered if it works in conduction with the dry fire mag. Preferably a trigger resetting system that works with a laser target system. Any info would help. Thanks Zack K - "What is your most hated gun and why? I'll start the walther PK380. It has a shit take down where you need a “key”, low capacity for the size, safety only with no decocker, and very limited aftermarket." Lieutenant Ovbious - Let's be real, the best part about the tax stamp going to zero is that the used market on suppressors is going to go crazy. Gimme dem $80 used 22LR cans that just need a good cleaning. This is not a question. The winner of this week's swag pack is Sour Nut! The Stool was somewhat critical of the Blackout….and maybe changed their minds on it. It looked cool. The question now is: do you do that every year…or is there a stripe out possibly? On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern Riley Sager are back in studio recapping Saturday night's USC's 21-17 comeback "Blackout" victory over Nebraska in Lincoln. It was not the cleanest game for Lincoln Riley and the Trojans, but it was an important result that was desperately needed. Now at 6-2 and 4-1 in Big Ten play, No. 20 USC's hopes of reaching the College Football Playoffs are still alive with three home games and one road trip to Eugene left on the schedule. The crew gives their thoughts on some of the key storylines from the game, including an amazing performance by walk-on running back King Miller. Making just his second start, Miller ran for 129 yards and a touchdown on 18 attempts and was the main weapon for the Trojans offense with Jayden Maiava having an off night. The defense stepped up and made plays after Nebraska's opening drive touchdown, forcing a sack/fumble that knocked Dylan Raiola out of the game and coming up big in the second half, only allowing a single field goal to the Huskers. Kicker Ryon Sayeri was also one of the stars of the evening, hitting both of his field goals including one that was just shy of 50 yards. The steady redshirt freshman from Chaminade High School has converted on 14 of his 15 field goal attempts and has been an absolute weapon for USC this season That was the Trojans second Big Ten plane ride road trip victory of the season and Riley and company have a quick turnaround, facing the 5-3 (3-2 B1G) Northwestern Wildcats Friday night in the Coliseum coming off of their bye week. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return off the second bye week to form the Helium Boys Podcast in anticipation of No. 23 USC's big road game against Nebraska where a sold out crowd is expected for the "Blackout" game. It's no surprise that both hosts spend their 'Two-Minute Drill' talking about the trip to Nebraska. Shotgun shares his vehicle drama on his last trip to the state while Chris opines on this being his No. 1 road trip of the 2025 season. There is no Stock Up, Stock Down without a game this past weekend so the podcast jumps right into a quick preview for the Cornhuskers, looking at their run defense, quarterback Dylan Raiola and much more. The Helium Boys wrap up with a limited number of questions as well as some Take It or Leave It, which includes freshman quarterback Husan Longstreet, USC's All-Big Ten future selections and new potential starters out of the bye. Shotgun takes on a whole slew of topics in the Overtime period from Kool-Aid, Rainforest Cafe and TV dinners. This will be just the seventh time these two programs have met all-time with the Trojans undefeated at five wins and a tie. This will be the first meeting in Lincoln since 2007. As seen on Gutfeld!, Greg has some thoughts about Rosie O'Donnell calling for an economic boycott on Trump during the holiday season, even though she lives in Ireland. Greg says this is a perfect example of leftists allowing politics to consume their entire lives, unlike normal people who have priorities above politics. Learn more about your ad choices.
