Founded in FoCo is a three-day event for businesses of all sizes, from solopreneurs to large companies to non-profit organizations. It's a collaborative community effort that offers peer-to-peer education, inspiring speakers, networking, and more. This year's event is coming up at the Front Range Community College Harmony Campus in Fort Collins on March 1-3, 2023. If you're a business owner located within 100 miles or so of Larimer County, you're welcome to attend this free event. These kinds of events are familiar territory for today's guest on Your Own Best Company. Nick Armstrong of WTF Marketing is the lead organizer of Founded in FoCo, and he's no stranger to locally focused collaborative events. As one of the founders of Fort Collins Comic Con, Nick has a history of initiating exciting and engaging community events that all serve a higher purpose of bringing people together, having fun, and supporting the causes and organizations that matter. In this episode, Nick gives us the inside story on: ** The rebranding of Fort Collins Startup Week to Founded in FoCo. ** Some of the features and excitement for this year's event, happening Mar.1-3 in Fort Collins. ** Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities. ** How Fort Collins ended up with a Comic Con of its own. ** How coming in second in a local election led to the formation of a hot sauce company. ** How he has benefitted personally and professionally from his commitments to his community. Nick Armstrong is among Fort Collins' most interesting people!  He's the Geek-in-Chief of WTF Marketing, the Pepper Pioneer of FTW Hot Sauce, and the Lead Organizer of both Founded in FoCo and Fort Collins Comic Con!  He's also a freelance community organizer in various ancillary capacities, and a recently BARELY unsuccessful candidate for Fort Collins City Council.  Nick has a great business journey - basically unemployable from the start.  After earning his BS in Business Administration, with both Marketing and Computer Science focus, Nick got into the corporate world - where he rambled from job to job for a bit before getting into his own things…and there's a lot of them!  From organizing Ignite Fort Collins, to starting a NoCo Comic Con so he didn't have to go to Denver - Nick has 28 Experience lines on his LinkedIn Profile!  In this episode, we zoom especially in on the Founded in FoCo event and highlight some of the amazing speakers, workshops, and events that'll be going on. LoCo Think Tank is hosting a Celebrating our Community event to kickoff the festivities on March 1, 2023. Nick also shares about his city council run and more about his newest venture - FTW Hot Sauce, FOR THE WIN.  Tune in and enjoy my conversation with Nick Armstrong!  Episode Sponsor: InMotion, providing next-day delivery for local businesses. When I was working on the Elevator Pitches That Don't Suck course, one of the lessons was about the things we give away to promote our business - the freebies! I did a lot of looking to find some of the coolest freebie ideas and made a presentation for Fort Collins Comic Con vendors about making freebies people won't throw away. That turned into another mini-course in my school - Fridgeworthy Freebies. The things I noticed about the freebies that had the most value in the eyes of the receivers were that they met a relevant need, they were easy to understand, they were easy to access, and they were intended to be used repeatedly. Listen to the podcast for more about what I learned, and if you're interested in having your own freebie strategy and help to create it, take the course: https://bit.ly/FridgeworthyFreebies #creativity #promotion #freebies

I have a fantastic conversation about how to thrive during this time and connect with your identity. Unfortunately, identity is something we've all lost a little… or maybe even a lot… losing our identity and connection to that which makes us… well US… can cause a lot of problems. It's a tough time and our desire is to help you to reconnect with your identity, so you can thrive right NOW! Joining me on this episode is Nick Armstrong, organizer of Fort Collins Comic Con and Fort Collins Startup Week, as well as the owner of WTF Marketing. Nick is a prolific and renaissance geek. Meaning, he's a geek at heart and yet has many interests and talents. I asked Nick what he thought people needed right now. He told me 3 things that really sparked my interest and I found to be very true. These 3 things are: Connect with your identity (as we've all lost some or much of it with this current situation) Mental health, or grief, help. We're all dealing with a level of grief in some way right now. Curation of great content. There is a LOT going out right now. Everyone is now creating something and putting up for our consumption. How do we know what's good as well as what's good for us specifically? We need curation. Nick and I are going to talk about these things on today's episode! Straight from Gabe's basement, the three of us bring you magic, in this 28th episode of the Thinking Outside the Long Box Podcast. We interview three amazing people, and get to listen to Jon while he readies the Hall of Justice!! While Jon is busy bagging and boarding THOUSANDS of back issue comic books, Gabe and Juan get to enjoy the sultry cooking of Mel, from Gabe's basement! All of your favorite TV shows, movies, and comic books are back with a BANG!! When the three of us get together, anything can happen, and you'll never think of the song Scatman, the same again!! Aside from the awesome conversation with each other, we also have three amazing interviews!! The first interview comes from Alex Paknadel, the writer of BOOM! Studios' Arcadia! This interview is so different from most of the interviews we do, and that is a good thing!! Not only do we talk about BOOM! and Arcadia, but we also find out a lot about Alex' views of the whole world in general, especially when it comes to technology. We find out that Alex is a soon to be father, and what gross things he's most afraid of! Interview number two, is joining us for a second time, after having been interviewed for our Fort Collins Comic Con episode. Kaai, of Nerd 2 Go Magazine, joins us at the podcast table, metaphorically.......This magazine sounds absolutely amazing!! It doesn't focus on only one aspect of nerd culture, and this is what makes it great!! You'll get an inside look at comic books, cosplay, table top games, and so much more!! The first issue will hit in January, and we will definitely be one of the first to ensure we read it!! Plus, maybe look for us in the magazine in the future! Our last interview is with Russ Lippitt. He is the brainchild, and writer, behind The Showdown! It is an amazing mix of cars, and horror! Why are all of these famous monsters holding races in Hell? The only way to know that amazing answer, is to make sure you go check out this book! Trust me, you won't want to miss out on all the antics that go down in the inferno!! Remember, you can ALWAYS let us know what you think!
