THINK YOU KNOW CELEBS? Take The Spill's Pop Culture Quiz here.A major international press tour just kicked off with a comically polite red carpet appearance, but it’s a bombshell headline that has set the internet on fire. While the rest of the media ran with rumours, this outlet went all out and seemingly confirmed that one of Hollywood’s most beloved power couples Zendaya and Tom Holland has secretly tied the knot.Plus a massive, star-studded casting announcement for the upcoming season of our favourite cosy streaming mystery series has left the internet absolutely reeling. With an unbelievable lineup of British and Irish icons joining the call sheet, the budget for this production must be completely out of control. Finally, Gracie Abrams has just dropped a raw, in-depth profile ahead of her highly anticipated third studio album, and she’s addressing her love life head-on. She reveals a deeply relatable insecurity about being in a stable, happy relationship with one of the internet's favourite leading men Paul Mescal, admitting she was terrified that being secure would completely destroy her drive to write music.Remember The Spill drops the tea twice a day in this feed so follow us for all the latest entertainment news OR you can WATCH our show in full length video on the Apple Podcast app - make sure your phone is up to date and enjoy the watch! The sequel finally has a name, and it is not the one everyone dunked on at CinemaCon. This episode breaks down the reveal of A Minecraft Movie: Squared, the new casting news, a release date, and a theory about why that purple title art might be pointing straight toward the End.Warner Bros. moved past the CinemaCon backlash and locked in A Minecraft Movie: Squared as the official sequel title, dropping the earlier placeholder that got roasted online. The bigger headlines are in the casting. Kirsten Dunst is stepping out of her trailer to play Alex, and Matt Berry is back after voicing the nitwit villager in the first film, this time teased for a much larger role that could land him in villain territory. From there the episode gets into the fun part, decoding the purple "squared" in the logo. The obvious read is a Nether portal, but a closer look at the crystalline texture lines up better with Enderman eyes, which opens the door to an End dimension setting and a showdown with the Ender Dragon. That theory leads to a pitch for Matt Berry voicing the dragon in the style of Benedict Cumberbatch's Smaug. The episode closes with the confirmed July 23, 2027 release date and word that production is set up in New Zealand.0:00 Sequel Title Confirmed: From CinemaCon Hate to "Squared"0:15 Kirsten Dunst as Alex, Matt Berry Returns0:23 Decoding the Purple Logo: Nether Portal or the End?0:46 The Smaug Comparison and Ender Dragon Theory1:03 July 23, 2027 Release Date and New Zealand FilmingThe sequel is officially titled A Minecraft Movie: Squared after the studio scrapped the placeholder name that drew heavy criticism online.Kirsten Dunst is joining the cast as Alex.Matt Berry returns following his first film role as the nitwit villager, with hints he is voicing something far bigger this time, possibly the villain. The purple "squared" in the title art could signal a Nether portal, but the crystalline look points more toward Enderman eyes and a trip to the End.A potential Ender Dragon confrontation could give Matt Berry a Smaug style voiceover moment. The movie hits theaters July 23, 2027, with filming based in New Zealand."That cheesiest name they used at CinemaCon. They got all the hate online.""Benedict Cumberbatch playing Smaug, that was so freaking dope. Let's do that for Minecraft.""The main thing I want to know next is who is Matt Berry playing. Who is the bad guy?"Who do you think Matt Berry is voicing, and is the team really headed to the End to fight the dragon? Shauna and Olivia want to share their favorite movies with each other, and you! This time Olivia shares one of her favorite movies, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Directed by Michel Gondry from a screenplay he wrote with Charlie Kaufman and Pierre Bismuth, Eternal Sunshine asks and answers the question 'If you could totally erase an ex-lover from your memory, would you?' Jim Carrey plays mild-mannered Joel Barish, who meets and falls for free-spirited Clementine Kruczynski, whose hair changes to match her moods. They fall in love then fall out again, and after their break-up, Joel discovers Clementine has quite literally forgotten he exists. The movie follows Joel as he undertakes to wipe his own memories of their relationship. The Junkies ask themselves (and you) if there are any memories they'd pay to erase, and if not, why not? This week we're grabbing our crowns, polishing our tap shoes, and heading to Mount Rose, Minnesota, for a review of Drop Dead Gorgeous, the 1999 dark comedy mockumentary where a teen beauty pageant turns into sabotage, scandal, suspicious accidents, and small-town chaos. Don, Jon, and Ken talk about the film's stacked cast, including Kirsten Dunst, Kirstie Alley, Allison Janney, Ellen Barkin, Denise Richards, Brittany Murphy, Amy Adams, and Will Sasso. They dig into the mockumentary style, over-the-top Minnesota accents, cult classic status, and whether the comedy still works today. From exploding threshers and “bad wiring” to pageant politics, creepy judges, and Allison Janney stealing scenes, the guys break down the good, the bad, and the absurd before wrapping things up with trivia, plenty of banter, and their final ratings.
This month, Derek picks the films we talk about and this week, he chose one of his faves...Drop Dead Gorgeous. This mockumentary from 1999 stars Kirsten Dunst, Kirsty Alley, Ellen Barkin, Allison Janey and Denise Richards and focuses on a small-town beauty pageant that turns deadly as it becomes clear that someone will go to any lengths to win. What did we think? Tune in and find out!

Phil and Emily are joined by Katey Rich, awards editor at The Ankler and host of the Prestige Junkie podcast, to discuss Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), Michel Gondry's Charlie Kaufman-written love story and one of the defining films of its generation. This episode is part of the ongoing miniseries on the 2000s films of Charlie Kaufman and Michel Gondry.Jim Carrey plays Joel and Kate Winslet plays Clementine, former partners who independently undergo a procedure to erase each other from their memories. The film also stars Tom Wilkinson, Mark Ruffalo, Kirsten Dunst, and Elijah Wood. Released March 19th, 2004, it opened against Dawn of the Dead, The Passion of the Christ, and Starsky and Hutch, earned only two Oscar nominations, and somehow still became Charlie Kaufman's highest-grossing film.Phil, Emily, and Katey dig into how a movie that felt like a March dump release became a Sight and Sound list entry and a Letterboxd top 5 staple, why the Academy of 2004 simply wasn't ready for it, and how Jim Carrey managed to get overlooked by Oscar voters again six years after The Truman Show. They also get into how the Gondry and Kaufman collaboration works so much better here than it did on Human Nature, what the ending means when you come back to it older, and why Everything Everywhere All At Once couldn't exist without this film.Katey saw it right after her first real breakup and was completely walloped by it. Emily has seen it over ten times and has been happily married since college. Phil was 24 when it came out and was in exactly the right kind of romantic chaos for it to hit hardest. Three very different relationships with the same movie.Follow the show and guests:Podcast Like It's...: https://www.instagram.com/podcastlikeitsPhil Iscove: https://www.instagram.com/pmiscoveEmily St. James: https://www.instagram.com/emilystjamsKatey Rich: https://www.instagram.com/kateyrichtalkingPatreon (bonus episodes and video): http://patreon.com/Podcastlikeits Hosted on Acast. Sony didn't wait long to release the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer we've all been craving and oh, how it delivered! The new film shows Peter Parker banding together with familiar characters such as Bruce Banner and Frank Castle while he anonymously serves New York City as Spider-Man. Well the box office agrees, as the Ryan Gosling-led film opened to $141 million globally last weekend, with $80.6 of that being domestic. Episode #154 finds the panel wading into the tiara-strewn chaos of Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999), a mockumentary so dark it occasionally feels like it's whispering its jokes from the trunk of a car. With a cast that reads like a particularly unhinged reunion, including Kirsten Dunst, Allison Janney, Denise Richards, Amy Adams, Kirstie Alley, Brittany Murphy, and a cheerfully bewildered Adam West, the film chronicles a small Minnesota town whose high-school beauty pageant appears to double as a low-stakes homicide ring. It is civic pride with a body count. The post Episode #154 – Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999) first appeared on Boomstick Comics.

This week, the boys grabbed some beers and kept it positive while they fired off some mini-reviews before featuring a conversation about “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. As part of the random year generator series, 2004 was a great year for movies, with over 50 $100m movies and many likable ones. While “Eternal Sunshine” didn't gross in the top 70, it may be the year's greatest film. Props to Michel Gondry and Charlie Kaufman for giving Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet some juicy roles and incredibly shifty worlds! As for the mini-reviews, the boys can't speak highly enough of Gore Verbinski's “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die”, starring Sam Rockwell, and the intense and captivating “If I Had Legs I'd Kick You”, and the Academy Award-nominated “It Was Just An Accident”. One of the breakout hits of 2016 was this based-on-a-true-story tale of the first manned missions to outer space. Focusing on the black women at NASA - mathematicians, engineers, and computers - who made these early spaceflights a reality through sheer brainpower while often going unrecognized for their contributions, Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe star in this adaptation of Margot Lee Shetterly's book. Director Theodore Melfi chose Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge, and Glen Powell to round out the cast in this Best Picture Oscar nominee. But does too much melodrama subtract from the sum of this inspirational biopic? In honor of Black History Month, we're doing the math to see if all the accolades tallied by Hidden Figures still add up ten years after release. This week Sidey watched Roof Man on a flight—and it turned out to be a surprisingly breezy true-crime oddity: part heist caper, part rom-com, all built around one ridiculous (but real) idea. What it's aboutChanning Tatum plays Jeffrey Manchester, a struggling Army vet and dad who turns his “situational awareness” into a criminal superpower. His method is brutally simple: hammer through roofs, drop in overnight, hit fast-food joints for cash, vanish. After dozens of robberies he finally gets caught—then pulls off a genuinely wild prison escape and goes to ground in the last place you'd expect… a Toys “R” Us.What we talked aboutThe appeal (and absurdity) of the “roof entry” MO—and why it's terrifying in real lifeThe prison escape: routine, observation, and one perfectly timed delivery runLiving in plain sight: how the Toys “R” Us hideout becomes a weird little home baseThe moral wobble: the film frames him as charming, but these are still violent, traumatic crimesThe Kirsten Dunst factor: why she works here, and how the romance complicates everythingWhy it's a great “plane movie”: short, watchable, and doesn't outstay its welcomeVerdictA light, easy watch with solid performances and a bizarre true-story hook—even if the tone sometimes smooths over how grim the real-world version would feel. This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with queer actor, writer, and comedian Olivia Levine (@olivialevine19) to talk about why the 1999 cult classic Drop Dead Gorgeous, Should've Been Gay. If you're unfamiliar with the plot, it focuses on a small town beauty pageant that turns deadly for the contestants. As with many movies from the 90s, there are a lot of things in the script that just do not hold up in 2026. We still enjoyed this movie overall, but please be aware there is a period-typical amount of ableism, racism, and homophobia. One thing that Drop Dead Gorgeous does get right is the casting. This cast is STACKED. If you're a millennial like us, you'll recognize so many people in this movie, including Kirsten Dunst, Kirstie Alley, Denise Richards, Brittany Murphy, and Amy Adams. The acting is impeccable and the characters are delightfully unhinged in the campiest of ways. Being an SBG, the characters aren't openly queer, but we can honestly say we do not think there is a single straight character in this movie. Unfortunately, interpreting these characters as queer means there is quite a bit of BYG (bury your gays) trope throughout. For a romcom, there is a shocking amount of murders, but they are done in really over the top, comical ways (so it isn't scary to watch!). We know one thing for sure, Drop Dead Gorgeous Should've Been Gay. Check out Olivia's monthly comedy show “Strapped” at the legendary Stonewall Inn in NYC. Keep an eye out for upcoming dates and locations for Olivia's solo comedy show “Unstuck”, which focuses on the intersection of OCD, anxiety and queerness. In our 150th episode, astrologers Kristina Martin and Tara Redfield walk down the red carpet and into the astrological charts of Hollywood stars Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst. The Oscar nominees met on the set of Fargo and have been together ever since! First, Jesse's chart reveals an active Aries Sun, perfectly suited for his role as a headstrong football player in Friday Night Lights. However, a square from Neptune and a Full Moon in Libra suggest his identity can sometimes be hidden, favoring side-character roles. This same aspect grants him great sensitivity, refined by a harmonious Venus-Mars trine. In Kirsten's chart, a Leo Rising and Leo Moon destined her for fame from a young age. A square to her Taurus Sun, however, indicates the spotlight can feel uncomfortable, particularly regarding agency over her own body and sexuality. With a dreamy Venus in Pisces squared by Neptune, themes of naivety and sacrifice play large in her relationships, while a Mercury-Uranus opposition reveals a rebellious thinker and speaker. Together, their synastry is striking. Multiple positive aspects—including sextile Moons, Venuses, and Mercuries, plus trine Mars'—show they are excellent friends highly in tune with each other. The coveted Sun trine Moon and Venus trine Mars amplify feelings of mutuality, attraction, and complimentary energy. Yet, Pluto on the IC can dredge up deep-seated issues, and challenging Mars squares confirm this relationship isn't without its fights. Can the rest of their chart connections mitigate these tensions? Listen to discover what Venusian score this cosmic pair is nominated for! Book a Reading with us! In the new movie Roofman, Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst ooze with their signature charm and chemistry. Tatum plays an exceptionally savvy military veteran who robs fast food joints by entering through the rooftops. Eventually he gets caught and sent to prison, but he's able to escape and hides out in a Toys “R” Us for several months undetected. Obviously, he can only survive on M&Ms and keep up the ruse for so long before the roof comes crashing down on him.
