That's the capital of India for a day, and I was going out with my friend to watch a movie in his car and he was driving, and he just, there was a turn. He took a turn and he just raced across, He surpassed this car that was going and we dashed across the divider so I banged my shoulder into one of the car doors and that is how... so I basically fractured my collarbone.Fred: Oh, so you broke your shoulder.Shibika: That's right.Fred: What happened after that?Shibika: So, we had to immediately rush to the hospital and he panicked. I was like... I was not really unconscious but the pain was... it pained really bad so I needed pain killer. I needed an injection, so I went to the hospital and there they gave me a pain killer injection and after that they took an x-ray and then they found it was a fracture so I had to be admitted in the hospital and I was admitted in the hospital immediately and I informed my parents who were not in Delhi, who were in Luck now. It's like five hours from Delhi and I informed them the next day so... because I didn't want to panic them that time. They couldn't have come to Delhi so. Yeah, so but it was alright. They tied this bandage, plaster kind of thing across my neck and that time it hurt really bad. Yeah, it took time to for me to recover.Fred: So, after you recovered, what was the process. So you had to go through the hospital and then they put the bandage.Shibika: That's right. I had to be with the bandage on for a really long time, because I couldn't have taken out the bandage because in a bone fracture you can't be given any medicines or you can't be given any external treatment for it to get OK. You know, the only way for it to get OK is it's gonna heal naturally and with the bones with time. The bones are going to get fixed on their own so I had to on that plaster all the time, while eating, sleeping, no matter what I do, and I had to be in the hospital for a really long time after which I got discharged, say after ten days or something, and then I could have been taken home.

Bankrupt Rumor: Archie Comics: Archie Andrews is an old time radio show that ran from 1943-1953. It was based on the popular Archie comic strip by Bob Montana, which was published in newspapers from 1941-1975. The comic strip was based on Montana’s hometown, his own high school life, and the friends he’d made there. Jughead and Moose were based on his friends, Skinny Linehan and Arnold Daggett. In the story, Jughead is Archie’s childhood friend. Moose, although not too bright, is a star athlete at Riverdale High School and Archie is often his teammate. Reggie is Archie’s main rival (competition), both in sports and in romance. Speaking of Archie’s love life, there is an on-going love triangle between Betty, Veronica and Archie. Archie originally tried to get the attention of Betty, the girl next door, but she just saw him as an annoying nuisance. Then when Veronica moved to town, Archie started dating her. This got Betty jealous, and the two girls started competing for his love. Archie considers Veronica his girlfriend, and Betty a close friend, but he still wants Betty to be there for him as backup, just in case Veronica ever breaks up with him. You can meet the characters in the comic strip/radio show at this website: http://archiecomics.com/characters/ Rumor has it... For the next 6 episodes of Dramatic Listening, we’ll be listening to the radio episode, Bankrupt Rumor. A rumor is interesting information that gets people talking. It gets passed around from person to person. Some people forget some facts and other story-tellers add to the story to make it even more interesting. As a result, rumors are stories we might hear about people we know, but we don’t know if they are true or not. This particular rumor is about bankruptcy – that is when a person or a business loses all their money and cannot pay their debts. As we listen in on conversations in Archie’s home and between Archie and his friends, we begin to see how the rumor got started, and how it grew… Explaining the rules of Scrabble: In this episode, Part 1 of Bankrupt Rumor, Archie's mom is teaching Archie's dad how to play a popular new game at the time, Scrabble. He’s been working at the office all day, and now his wife expects him to be sociable. He’s likely been interacting with people all day, but his wife hasn’t. Then, on top of that, his wife wants him to try something new, something he doesn’t know. He’s probably afraid of making a fool of himself. But his whole attitude about the game changed when he found out he was good at it. Have you ever been like Fred? What have you tried that you found out you were good at? Please leave a comment below.
We've all been taught the golden rule - "treat others as you want to be treated". Our parents raise us with the best intentions - they tell us to be nice to one another, and not to step on others to get ahead. But is that actually good advice? Is it better to have high moral character and put others first, or is it a dog eat dog world where nice guys finish last? This week we speak with Fred Kiel, co-founder of KRW International, leadership researcher, and author of the new book, Return on Character: The Real Reason Leaders and Their Companies Win. In this book (and episode), Fred summarizes seven years of research on the connection between the character of the CEO and return on assets. As part of this research, Fred and his team embarked on a landmark study of more than 100 CEOs and over 8,000 of their employees' to determine once and for all if the character of a leader really has an impact on a company's financial success. Prior to focusing on business advising, Fred founded a successful private practice in Minneapolis which became the major employer of professionals in that market. His interest in business advising eventually won out, and a bit over two decades ago, he sold his practice and co-founded KRW International. Fred has served on the boards of several philanthropic organizations, including Augsburg College Youth and Family Institute, Graywolf Press, Walk-In Counseling Center, and the Lyra Concert. He currently serves on the board of the Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center. He also served on the adjunct staff of the Center for Creative Leadership for nearly ten years and served two terms on the Board of Psychology for the state of Minnesota. ____ "We are born to be both self-concerned and to be concerned for the common good. Which one of those sides 'wins' is dependent upon our environment and our experiences as we grow up." - Fred Kiel Quotes from Fred: What we learn in this episode: What does it take to be a strong leader? What does it mean to be moral? What are the 4 moral principles? What are the two eulogies that you have and how do you want to shape them?
