Jersey Boy Evan and New Yorker David bring in guest Rickie Sherman to talk Neo Yokio, the inscrutable vanity anime co-production from Vampire Weekend lead singer Ezra Koenig. But first, a recap of Evan's weekend with Studio Trigger at Genericon 2018 and some Boogiepop news. Topics include: Kim and Kanye's favorite anime, the pineapple on pizza of anime, and a shockingly sincere discussion of race and class in America. Production note: Rickie's mic was having some issues, so apologies for the crappy quality. I tried my best to clean it up in post! Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Guest Tom Aznable (@TomAznable) joins Evan and David to talk about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the trailer for Netflix's live-action Death Note movie, their bizarre Genericon adventure (featuring Studio Trigger, MD Geist, and a very large, very cold house), and the 1984 mecha anime Panzer World Galient. Plus, existential questions about Mario, an intervention for Evan's lack of 2-D attraction, and tips on getting into Gundam. Because we're always very good at staying topical, we recorded an episode a week before Genericon but waited until the Genericon was mostly over to release it. Whoops! Anyway, Evan and David talk a bunch about Evan's trip to Japan, David's love of Kemono Friends, and the cool stuff going down at Genericon 2017 (did you know there are Studio Trigger staffers attending as guests?!). Topics include: the Soft Rock Café, the 420 of hamburgers, and Kemono Friends Ani-Gamers fanart. Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Just when you thought it was time for us to get back to our regularly scheduled programming, both of our hosts went back to their old college anime/sci-fi/gaming con, Genericon, which Evan was once the chair of. (Evan Minto, by the way, is our absent-minded host who forgot to introduce himself this episode.) We got a chance to sit down with Nick Grippo, the Public Relations Coordinator (Evan’s old job!) and Guest coordinator for the convention on Saturday night, the busiest night of the weekend. Topics include reverse Chinese foot-binding, the legend of Genericon’s baked beans, and Brony terrorism. Direct Download – RSS Feed – iTunes – Send us Feedback! – More episodes Runtime: 38 minutes Opening Song: “Blues Machine” by Scott Gratton Genericon’s official website Igor Vamos gets name-dropped in this episode. He’s a founding member of a “culture jamming” group called The Yes Men and is a professor at RPI, where he teaches “Intermediate Imaging,” a class that Nick is currently taking. Somehow David and Evan manage to spend another half hour talking about Fallout: New Vegas and Final Fantasy VI, but after that the hosts discuss the removal of some controversial Fire Emblem: Fates features in the English version, Evan shames David for being an idol-liker, and they both trade thoughts on the Shuzo Oshimi manga Inside Mari. Topics include bangin’ mini-games, literal objectification in idol games, and our favorite anime VHS tapes. Direct Download – RSS Feed – iTunes – Send us Feedback! – More episodes Runtime: 59 minutes Evan got to a more interesting part of Fallout: New Vegas, while David hit the turning point in Final Fantasy VI, the Floating Continent. The English version of Fire Emblem: Fates makes some changes to cover up the bizarre “petting” mechanic in the Japanese version. David is playing iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage. Evan is caught up on Inside Mari and David is a little behind. Both of them found its initial premise interesting but are getting bored as it progresses. In response to a listener question, the hosts also name their most prized anime VHS tapes. Evan will be at Katsucon 2016 (February 12-14), streaming on Crunchyroll Live, and Genericon 2016 (March 4-6), hosting four panels. Evan writes for Otaku USA Magazine and hosts the Crunchycast on Crunchyroll. The stinger is in reference to the Dragon Quest Slime-themed glass David was drinking out of during this episode.
Hello World (Meet the Con Artists) The Con Artists introduce themselves and talk about how they got started. Evan’s not flying back to New Jersey for AnimeNEXT, but he did attend FanimeCon 2014 in San Jose, CA. In this podcast, recorded on the fourth and final day of Fanime, Evan sits down with his Crunchyroll coworkers and arch-frenemies, Victoria Holden (a.k.a. SailorBee) and Danika Harrod (a.k.a. DarlingDaniChan) and cosplay photographer Ben Lam to talk about the con. Topics include Kill la Kill cosplay, Anime Hell, anime triathlons, and the “flipping off Evan” meme. This podcast was recorded in a hotel lobby, so the audio has a lot of background noise. Sorry! Show notes, links, and comments after the break. DIRECT DOWNLOAD – RSS Feed – iTunes – Send us Feedback! – More episodes (Runtime: 1 hour, 13 minutes) Opening/Ending Song: “Kill Me” by Lame Drivers Our guests: Danika Harrod, Victoria Holden, and Ben Lam Everyone but Ben works at Crunchyroll, the anime and Asian drama streaming website. The “Flipping off Evan” meme is a thing that Danika started on Twitter for no good reason. Former Ani-Gamers blogger Elliot Page started a Tumblr compiling the best shots. Evan ran/participated in four panels: Introducing Studio Trigger (slightly updated version of the “‘Trigger’ Warning” Genericon panel), The Beautiful Backgrounds of Anime, The Changing Faces of Anime, and the Crunchyroll Industry Panel. Victoria/Danika’s cosplays: Elf/Sorceress (Dragon’s Crown), Utena/Maou (Revolutionary Girl Utena/Maoyu), Griffith/Guts (Berserk) Panels Evan went to: Takami Akai (Gainax char. designer) Q&A, Noir (Gainax marketing) Q&A, Anime & Manga for Parents (run by Gilles Poitras), Anime Hell (this one is from Ryan Gavigan), Most Hilarious Bootlegs (run by Heidi Kemps), and History of Sports Anime/Manga (run by Tom Langston) Kill la Kill was the most popular show for cosplay at Fanime. Watch it right now on Crunchyroll, Netflix, or Daisuki. We don’t have photos from the con up yet, but we’ll link them here once they’re online. Otaku USA Magazine: Evan and Ink wrote stuff for the new issue (cover is JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure). Evan wrote about Yuyushiki and Red Data Girl (that one was supposed to be in the last issue) and Ink wrote about Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren’t They? It’s been three months, but we’re back! This time Evan and David talk about anime that’s just old enough that you no longer care enough to be angry about it and video games so old you don’t even remember them anymore. Topics include Super Sonico, Nidhogg, Mother (the original, not the good one or the other good one), Cardcaptor Sakura, Inside Mari, being a tourist in Japan, being a BAD tourist in Japan, Japanese food, and oddly-specific otaku stores. We’re not putting timecodes in the show notes anymore starting with this episode because it takes too long and you guys probably don’t even care about it anyway. If you’re angry about this development, click that “Continue Reading” link to read the new show notes and leave us a hate-filled comment! Those are our favorite kind! DIRECT DOWNLOAD – RSS Feed – iTunes – Send us Feedback! – More episodes (Runtime: 1 hour, 18 minutes) Opening/Ending Song: “Kill Me” by Lame Drivers Super Sonico is an anime about Nitroplus’s mascot character. A few days after Evan said nobody would license it and David said Sentai would… Sentai actually licensed it. (Watch it on Crunchyroll) Nidhogg is a 1-v-1 fencing football game or something like that. (Get it on Steam or the official site) Mother is an weird old NES JRPG. The sequel is Mother 2, better known in English as Earthbound. (You can’t get Mother legally in English, but you can get Earthbound on the Wii U Virtual Console) Cardcaptor Sakura is a famous magical girl manga series by superstar manga artists CLAMP. (Buy it on Amazon or RightStuf) Inside Mari is a creepy bodyswap manga by Flowers of Evil author Shuzo Oshimi (Read it on Crunchyroll) Japan is a country with some pretty cool stuff in it. We both visited it and talked way too much about it. The otaku meccas we discussed were Akihabara (just south of Ueno) and Nakano Broadway (just west of Shinjuku). The pirate-themed shop in Nakano Broadway that we talk about is called Bambool (here’s the official listing on the Nakano Broadway site). It turns out they’re not strictly pirate-themed, so I guess Evan was mistaken. The indie manga shop is Taco Che. Here’s the official site (in Japanese) and Nakano Broadway’s listing for it. For more info on otaku stuff to do in Japan Evan highly recommends Cruising the Anime City: An Otaku Guide to Neo Tokyo, by Patrick Macias (Otaku USA and Crunchyroll News Editor-in-Chief) Otaku USA Magazine: Evan and Ink wrote stuff for the new issue (cover is Attack on Titan). Evan did a review of .hack//Quantum (anime) and Wolfsmund (manga), and Ink did features on Beyond the Boundary, Kamisama Kiss, and (his favorite) Chihayafuru, as well as a review of the ongoing series Samurai Flamenco. Read more stuff from Ink at Fandom Post. He just did a pretty great Paranoia Agent writeup recently. Twitter: Ani-Gamers, Evan, David We didn’t mention it in the show, but we’re going to Genericon in Troy, NY again this year! Evan, Ink, and David will be there alongside Ed Chavez and possibly a couple other online anime folks. Evan’s not staff anymore, but he’s running two panels: “The Beautiful Backgrounds of Anime” (about anime background art) and “‘Trigger’ Warning: Birth of an Anime Studio” (about Studio Trigger, Kill la Kill, Inferno Cop, etc.)

Hey Jellyheads! Katherine and Lucas are back to share with you their recent experience at the science fiction and gaming convention Genericon! The two discuss costumes, panels, and yes, even some very terrible games. Would it be a Last Coin episode without mentioning bad games? Enjoy!
We've been having a decent amount of guests on lately, huh? This time we are joined by Evan Minto from the Anigamers podcast and Genericon staff to talk about--PER HIS REQUEST--the notoriously disliked Sword for Truth by Osamu Dezaki and Akio Sugino. Visit www.animeworldorder.com for full show notes and supplemental links.

We didn't record anything at Genericon 2011 ourselves, but we did sit down for an interview with the Reverse Thieves for their podcast, The Speakeasy. We basically disrupted whatever was planned. Visit www.animeworldorder.com for full show notes and supplemental links.
We haven't posted anything lately, and with our convention appearance at Genericon impending, Daryl figured we may as well let people know that the convention appearance at Genericon actually exists! Visit www.animeworldorder.com for full show notes and supplemental links.
