This conversation, hosted by Todd Miller, about a great borderlands adobe brick building project is going great, until Jacques Servin—of the political performance artist trickster and activist troupe called the Yes Men—fails to grasp the meaning of the term "border security" — at least how it's conveyed to the world by the high brass of the Department of Homeland Security. Though frustrating at first, this leads to a fruitful philosophical conversation and then a possibly paradigm-shifting one. Listen all the way to the end for a provocative proposal about next year's Border Security Expo.
https://teachhoops.com/ Stepping into a head coaching position for the second time is completely different from your first ride. The first time around, you're trying to survive—managing parent emails, organizing equipment, writing 90-minute practice scripts, and trying to prove you belong. You coach with a whistle in your mouth and a joystick in your hand. The second time? The fog of management is gone. You know how the machine operates, which means you can spend your energy on what actually matters: building the human architecture of the program and protecting the culture. Going into "Round Two" means you aren't guessing your way through a philosophy. You are deploying an established blueprint refined by the "Truth Room" of your past mistakes. The biggest hazard for a veteran coach entering a new school is trying to run the exact same playbook that won them a regional title somewhere else. If your last stop featured elite, downhill-attacking guards and you ran a relentless Dribble Drive, but your new roster features physical, back-to-the-basket bigs, trying to force your old tactical system makes you a rigid coach. Your system must serve your players to maximize their Effective Field Goal Percentage ($eFG%$): The Shift: In your first job, you might have modified your players to fit your system. In your second job, you have the tactical maturity to modify your system to fit your players while keeping your Standard of Excellence completely non-negotiable. The first time you were head coach, you likely hired your friends or whoever was available. This time, you understand that your coaching staff is your shield. The Rule: Do not hire an entire staff of "Yes Men." You need assistants who bring different tactical perspectives—maybe a "Modern Flow" architect to balance your structured Princeton Offense or a defensive specialist who understands recovery leverage. The Expectation: Hold your staff to the same Next Play Speed you expect from your players. They must be vocal "Energy Givers" in the gym, echoing your instructions rather than standing on the sideline with their arms crossed. A program is not defined by what the head coach preaches in the pre-season parent meeting; it is defined by what the head coach is willing to tolerate on a rainy Tuesday afternoon in January. Day One Standard: From your very first open gym, establish your non-negotiables: body language, how we treat the managers, how we sprint out of mistakes, and how we talk on defense. The Leadership Shift: Start building a Leadership Council immediately. Your ultimate goal in this second stint should be to move the program from Coach-Fed to Player-Led. When your upperclassmen start policing the locker room before you even walk through the door, you have built a culture that lasts. Coach's Note: "The first time you coach, you think it's about the X's and O's. The second time around, you realize the X's and O's don't mean a thing if the human beings running them don't trust each other. Focus on the relationship capital early, hold the standard fiercely, and let the scoreboard take care of itself." 1. On this episode of The Ty Brady Way, Ty sits down with Skip Wilson, digital marketing veteran, agency founder, and self-described framework guy, for a candid and practical conversation about building a business from the ground up, leading with intention, and defining success on your own terms. Skip's origin story is one of the most disarming you'll hear: he got into marketing at 16 by telling a girl he was a writer to impress her, and then actually had to become one. That early pattern of committing first and figuring it out later carried him all the way to a VP of Digital Media role at iHeart Media, where he spent over a decade building and leading teams at scale. When he finally left the corporate world to go out on his own, the imposter syndrome he'd somehow dodged in his fearless teenage years hit him full force, a reminder that confidence isn't linear and that even the most experienced leaders have to keep earning it. Skip opens up about watching his father, a lifelong entrepreneur, lose his business, including the planes and everything that came with it, and how witnessing that from a front-row seat taught him that there is no such thing as arriving. You never get to stop building. He also shares one of the most relatable struggles of his career: learning to code while dyslexic at a time when WordPress required actual programming knowledge. Something that took him five times longer than anyone else, and something he quietly pushed through without ever letting a client know. The conversation takes a sharp turn into team building and leadership, where Skip is refreshingly specific. He offers a mathematical framework for employee performance built around four levers: desire, ability, expectation, and tools. His argument is that most underperformance isn't a talent problem but an expectation problem, and that giving people a clear scorecard for their role changes everything. He also makes a strong case for hiring people who will push back, disagree, and tell you when something is dumb, especially in the early days, while acknowledging that his own tendency toward bluntness required him to eventually hire a COO to bring the warmth and relational culture his team also needed. On the subject of success, Skip draws a clear line between who he was twenty years ago, chasing a name and personal recognition, and who he is today, someone who actively shies away from the spotlight because he's more interested in impact than in being known for impact. His definition of legacy is sitting on his desk in the form of a fortune cookie he kept not out of superstition but because he genuinely hopes it comes true: you'll become known for your generosity. He points to Milton Hershey and Walt Disney as his north stars, two builders who created not just great companies but entire communities and whose generosity still sends students to college and fills theme parks decades after they're gone. Skip closes by inviting listeners to reach out at info@draftmediapartners.com, where his team offers free marketing audits and business strategy conversations, because as both Skip and Ty agree, entrepreneurs take care of each other. Is honest debate disappearing inside the administration—and what does that mean for the future of the country?

In this episode, host Fred Davis sits down with Sam Ransbotham, Professor of Analytics at Boston College and AI Editor for MIT Sloan Management Review. We strip away the hoopla and doom-and-gloom to get to the "brass tacks" reality of how this technology works in the wild and academia. From the classroom to the boardroom, Sam explains why we are focusing on the wrong risks—and why the biggest danger isn't that AI will replace us, but that we'll use it to automate our own bad habits.Key Topics:The Calculator Analogy: Why banning ChatGPT in schools is exactly like banning calculators in math class (and why we need to get over it).The "Fax Machine" Trap: How companies are spending millions to use AI to read bad data, instead of just fixing the process. The "Sycophant" Effect: Why AI models are programmed to be "people pleasers," and why that makes them dangerous "Yes Men" in business.Magic vs. Math: Why understanding the limitations of these models is the only way to actually get value from them.

In this episode of Business Brain, you're challenged to stop using AI as a polite yes-man and start treating it like a ruthless sparring partner. You learn how to pressure-test your thinking before you ever type a prompt by defining the real decision, the outcome that actually matters, and the constraints you refuse to break. Shannon Jean and Dave Hamilton walk you through using AI to surface opposing viewpoints, rank options by impact instead of effort, and expose second-order consequences that can make or break your strategy. This is how you sharpen judgment instead of outsourcing it. You're also reminded that adaptation has no age limit, with a perfect real-world example that proves curiosity beats complacency every time. Whether you're refining decisions or embracing new tools, the message is clear: stay flexible, stay critical, and keep building your Charmed Life by thinking better, not just faster. 00:00:00 Business Brain – The Entrepreneurs' Podcast #717 for Casual FridAI, January 9th, 2026 January 9th: Static Electricity Day 00:01:21 Your Chat AI should be your sparring partner, not your yes-man Ruthless AI Test Before using AI, answer: What decision am I trying to improve? For a brief moment in time, the Democrats were humiliated in defeat. November of 2024 was the body blow necessary to end the war on Trump. They lost. Trump won, and that was that. They never absorbed that loss, however, except in the way that it made them meaner, angrier, and more willing to blow through norms and abandon what remained of their humanity to chase victory by any means necessary. That would include spending hundreds of millions on Prop 50. It would include celebrating the murder of Charlie Kirk and fantasizing about Trump's imminent death. It would be about sacrificing being “good people doing good things” to “stop fascism.” And somewhere in there, they took a dark turn. I watched it. I wrote about it. I warned about it. I could see it in their attacks on Tesla and their destruction of Elon Musk in an attempt to kill him and his business.I could see them at the No Kings rally, angry and motivated. Their desperation to find a Joe Rogan or compete with the memes on the Right failing at every turn. They looked to me like the monster in The Thing that could imitate but could never be what they thought won Trump the election.Their men are attempting to appear more masculine. Gavin Newsom and JB Pritzker have no problem fomenting insurrection against the government, and the newly elected Mayor of New York just taunted Trump to “turn up the volume.”The women bask in it and pretend they're still feminists when all they wanted all along was to be rescued by men, and here we are again. It's funny. But not so funny. To them, all is justified in the name of “saving democracy.” But that's never been what any of this has been about. They are totalitarians at heart, and they are prepared to sacrifice almost everything - friends, families, marriages, whole industries of culture and education - to attain it absolutely.Utopias only have two potential paths. They become totalitarian, like the Soviet Union, like China, or they collapse. What you sacrifice in chasing utopia is personal freedom, art, journalism, comedy, and common ground with those who disagree with you. A totalitarian system wants it all and is prepared to take it if it isn't given willingly. They were already halfway there before Zohran Mamdani became the new leader of the new Left. Matt Taibbi calls this the end of the Democratic Party, and he's right. Totalitarianism will mean giving up even that. It's all for one and one for all, and those who aren't on board will be left behind. Here is Ben Shapiro:For now, they are holding their not-famous, bland, cookie-cutter centrists —like those who won in Virginia and New Jersey —whose names and faces no one remembers, close enough to not scare people away. They're centrists in name only. The new socialist wave will obliterate them, and if they don't realize that yet, they soon will. This came through my mail, even though I was never put on any list, and I have no idea how it arrived after five years of trying to leave the Democratic Party.Does the Right have anything like that? Are they in any way prepared to go up against people this fired up? No. They aren't. They have Scott Pressler, and they had Charlie Kirk, and everyone else seems to be invested in building their platforms for clicks and views, not for votes. MAGA is on the ropes. The heart of a totalitarian is that all things are necessary to achieve the singular goal of absolute power and dominance for the cause. The cause is usually a Marxist-like government system, but it doesn't have to be. It can be fascist, too. But even that has its roots in socialism because in totalitarianism, there is no power for the individual against the state.Over at the Free Press, Olivia Reingold looked deeper into the DSA:…The Free Press reviewed thousands of pages of internal Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) documents, which show that the organization's leaders view Mamdani as a tool in their agenda to abolish prisons and borders, and ultimately end in what they call the “barbaric order of capitalism.” The DSA, founded in 1982, is a political body dedicated to the doctrine of democratic socialism, which is a variety of socialism that simply specifies how it would like revolution to occur: peacefully, through the subversion of democracy. Mamdani, a dues-paying DSA member since 2017, is the tip of that spear. The Democrat machine cultivated “cancel culture” and used it as a method of societal control. No one would dare say anything that would get them banished from Utopia, except those of us who did and were. That form of policing was straight out of the Cultural Revolution, or Stalin's Komsomol or Hitler's Youth. In our bubble of the Left, we required no military because the system we built made it possible to destroy people with a single accusation. Over time, our hearts and minds had to be captured or suppressed. If you could not go along with it, and I couldn't, you were out.For a society that had migrated to the virtual frontier, that didn't mean you were sent to a gulag or killed, but it did mean you could lose everything and have to rebuild. Not the end of the world, but still, imagine a system like that attaining absolute power because MAGA dropped the ball? That totalitarian practice of punishing thought crimes and dissent spread to government when Joe Biden took power, which is why they censored the internet with impunity and would have continued to do it had the richest man in the world not bought Twitter and freed speech, which allowed for a counter movement to rise and win.Joe Biden and his administration, along with the Democrats, thought nothing of indicting Trump on weak charges, raiding Mar-a-Lago to paint him as a criminal. Their dehumanization and rage for him knew no bounds. They wanted him in jail. They wanted him off the ballot. They wanted him out of their government, their culture, and their country. They wanted him dead. And still do.Jay Jones' texts fantasizing about the death of Republicans and their children are not an exception. It's the rule. They openly talk about “when it happens” to Trump and plan to celebrate that day with playlists and dancing in the street. That is where they were mentally before this November 4th, and their blue wave revived the movement. Now, they are winning. You'd think, given that, they would ease up on the ugliness, the dehumanization, and the hate. Think again. These aren't people who want to share this country or even share the same restaurant as Trump and MAGA. You can't lie about a whole group of people like they have, calling them Nazis and racists and bigots, and not have it end as easily as one election. This is, to them, war.Mamdani's speech proved it. It was masks off, and here comes the revolution, and the enemies are the rich, the Capitalists, and the free thinkers. You think cancel culture was bad? Just you wait until they have control of AI, YouTube, Facebook, and all social media platforms, not to mention all of Hollywood, book publishing, universal preschool, and the universities. And what happens when the money runs out? Even now, Mamdani needs money, and he's asking for it to help pay for his transition team. Get used to it, rich people. You are the ones who will fund this production. The policies matter less than their total control of the country they believe belongs to them. But the one person they can't control is Donald Trump, and that's how he's gotten the better of them again and again. They believe this time, they finally got him. They think the time has come to declare victory. I wouldn't be so sure. When you control the corporate press, the universities, the public schools, the culture, you can create any reality you want. That's a totalitarian paradise, and why they've constructed it that way. A Trump win was never in the plan. It took them a while to find just the right narrative to preserve utopia, which was in a state of collapse. All it took was for Trump to focus on tariffs and not the economy, to celebrate a lavish Halloween ball amid a government shutdown, and most of all for voters to get a taste of Republicans ripping away SNAP benefits and rising healthcare costs. So they shut down the government to manufacture a crisis because, of course, they did. It was Defcon 1.Victor Davis Hanson on Emily Jashinsky's After PartyThat handed the Democrats their oppression cosplay, lining up the shot perfectly. How did the GOP not see this coming? They became arrogant and too comfortable with the idea that the Democratic Party had imploded. The only reason they imploded is that they didn't have the right script. Now, they do.The forces at play to destroy MAGA are everywhere. Do you think totalitarians play around? They do not. Now that Tyler Robinson conveniently assassinated Charlie Kirk, the vultures have flown in, and there is division everywhere.Nick Fuentes, boosted by the New York Times, will become the face of MAGA over the next few years. Excusing him, excusing those who interview him, or apologizing for him is a gift handed to the Left on a silver platter like the Epstein Files. Don't say I didn't warn you.The more people try to censor someone like Fuentes, however, the more energy and popularity he will attain. Anger among the public, especially the young, will find its way out and land somewhere. It will be sucked up by the totalitarians on the Left, or the identity-obsessed faction of the Right.Vivek Ramaswamy:Fuentes is popular, and no amount of scolding will change that. Shutting people up will never be the answer, and it won't work anyway in the age of influencers, clicks, and views. Brett Cooper and others will want a piece of that audience. And so they will placate, they will lean in, and they will excuse. But a Fuentes Right plays like a Reichstag Fire for the totalitarians. MAGA will not survive unless they have some beacons of morality, of true virtue, like Charlie Kirk, guiding them.As Konstantin Kisin points out:There is no saving the totalitarians. They already thought Charlie Kirk was as bad. Even now, none of them felt his assassination in any way. They did not tone anything down. They justified their celebrations and are determined to smear his legacy in death. They would watch and laugh if hundreds of Trump supporters were lined up and shot.Totalitarians want all of you. They want your mind, your heart, your devotion, your loyalty, your past, your present, and your future. They want it all, and they will take it all. And if you aren't on board, out you go. The only hope we have is a sane and common-sense alternative, which we have in Donald Trump. Somehow, in this mess, he comes out as the normal one.If Charlie Kirk were here right now, he'd be on the phone with Trump and urging him to address the economic woes that just lost Republicans a landslide election and ask him to say to the people, “I know you're suffering. I hear you. Here is our action plan to bring down costs and boost the economy. Here is our plan for healthcare. Here is why we won't let anyone starve in the richest country in the world.”But Charlie isn't here. Trump is relying on a team of Yes Men who will not pick up the phone and challenge him, like Charlie would have. But someone must.MAGA must have in place right now a mobilized effort to win in 2026, enlisting all influencers who want to help in the effort to beat back the Totalitarians and their massive alignment of power and their army of fired-up zealots.Otherwise, the totalitarians take America back. They'll raise the drawbridge, and that will be that. They will have whole generations in their universal preschool, shaping those minds however they please. Choose your gender, never think for yourself, do as you are told, utopia. If they take control of AI, that's it for free thought in America. None of them realizes it or even thinks about it. The heart of a totalitarian is not to question but to obey.Gen-Z is facing nothing but a depressing future - no home, AI coming to take the jobs, crippling student debt, and a magic man handing them everything they could ever want for free. Except it's not free. It will cost you everything because it will cost you your freedom. It will sound great at first, like those early enthusiastic speeches in Animal Farm. But if and when the money runs out, if and when there isn't enough for everyone, well, then it becomes the stuff of nightmares.America wasn't built for totalitarianism. It was built to be exactly the opposite. Just visit a socialist country, any one of them, and you'll see why. Charlie might be gone, but thousands of others have risen and attempted to fill his shoes, like Benny Johnson announcing this homeownership program for young people:America is always changing, evolving, and recreating itself. People come here to make their dreams come true. A republic, if you can keep it. Godspeed, MAGA. Godspeed.…// This is a public episode. The status quo of tech today is untenable: we're addicted to our devices, we've become increasingly polarized, our mental health is suffering and our personal data is sold to the highest bidder. This situation feels entrenched, propped up by a system of broken incentives beyond our control. So how do you shift an immovable status quo? Our guest today, Srdja Popovic, has been working to answer this question his whole life. As a young activist, Popovic helped overthrow Serbian dictator Slobodan Milosevic by turning creative resistance into an art form. His tactics didn't just challenge authority, they transformed how people saw their own power to create change. Since then, he's dedicated his life to supporting peaceful movements around the globe, developing innovative strategies that expose the fragility of seemingly untouchable systems. In this episode, Popovic sits down with CHT's Executive Director Daniel Barcay to explore how these same principles of creative resistance might help us address the challenges we face with tech today. Your Undivided Attention is produced by the Center for Humane Technology. Follow us on Twitter: @HumaneTech_We are hiring for a new Director of Philanthropy at CHT. Next year will be an absolutely critical time for us to shape how AI is going to get rolled out across our society. And our team is working hard on public awareness, policy and technology and design interventions. So we're looking for someone who can help us grow to the scale of this challenge. [EP 25-009] Sanity in a cruel world 1 Sanity has been restored to the world with the election of Trump, but do we have work to do or what? Every day with Leftists means you know you will be outraged. I truly don't know where to start with my outrage this morning. My first thought as I perused the news today is why are there so many pedophiles in the world today? And why do Leftists seem to condone rape at a level that is almost unbelievable. Especially in England. These Muslim grooming gangs should have anybody with a daughter scared to death. Hell, even boys aren't safe. Some of these stories are outrageous, like fathers trying to rescue their daughters from Muslim rape gangs getting arrested, and the police doing nothing to the men! The world is an ugly place and it will require men of honor and character to restore. Yes MEN. Sorry ladies, but this is not a job for you. Nor the metrosexual Leftist men who are all TRANS as far as I'm concerned. https://x.com/CilComLFC/status/1876023328366051353 Despite representing less than 7% of the British population, Muslims represent 67% of terror attacks, 30% of birth defects due to cousin marriages, 84% of child gang-rapes and 18% of prison population, while 44% of Muslims are unemployed and 27% are in social housing. Welcome to Day 2436 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom – Theology Thursday – The Divine Arrow – I Dare You Not To Bore Me With The Bible Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2436 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2436 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Today is the seventeenth lesson in our segment, Theology Thursday. Utilizing excerpts from a book titled: I Dare You Not To Bore Me With The Bible written by Hebrew Bible scholar and professor the late Dr. Michael S Heiser, we will invest a couple of years going through the entire Bible, exploring short Biblical lessons that you may not have received in Bible classes or Church. The Bible is a wonderful book. Its pages reveal the epic story of God's redemption of humankind and the long, bitter conflict against evil. Yet it's also a book that seems strange to us. While God's Word was written for us, it wasn't written to us. Today, our lesson is, The Divine Arrow. Few characters in the Bible are as maligned for their wickedness as King Ahab of Israel. While Ahab's predecessors “did evil in the sight of the Lord' Ahab had an agenda: He did more to provoke the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel, than any of the other kings of Israel before him. (1 Kgs 16:33). Ahab's rule includes Baal worship, forbidden foreign covenants (Syria) and foreign alliances (Jezebel), and the murder of Naboth. In 1 Kings 22, the prophet Micaiah warns Ahab of his impending fate. This isn't a run-of-the-mill prophecy. It's mixed with a vision of how God came to the final details of His decision: a divine boardroom discussion. Yes-Men and Yahweh's Man The 12 tribes of Israel had been split into two kingdoms for a century by the time Ahab took the throne (ca. 869 bc). Ahab ruled the northern kingdom (called Israel or Ephraim), which often fought with the southern kingdom, Judah. After peace reigned between Israel and Judah for three years (22:1), Ahab decided he wanted to capture the city of Ramoth in Gilead from the Arameans. He asked Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, for military assistance. Jehoshaphat agreed to the battle for political reasons, but he wanted assurance that God was in the endeavor (22:5). The 400 prophetic yes-men Ahab consulted endorsed the idea, but Jehoshaphat wanted another opinion (22:6, 11-12). Ahab agreed to summon Micaiah, the prophet of Yahweh, though he openly admitted to hating him (22:8). The real prophet of Yahweh never had anything positive to say about the ungodly Ahab and his rule. The Prophecy At first, Micaiah told Ahab that God loved the plan, but Ahab saw through his mockery. Apparently, this was not the first time: “How many times must I demand that you speak only the truth to me when you speak for the Lord?” (22:16). Micaiah proceeded to tell Ahab he was about to meet his Maker, so chances are good he wanted Ahab to go through with the battle, knowing the end result. Rebuked by Ahab, Micaiah holds nothing back, revealing to Ahab and to us the inner workings of God's counsel:...

In Episode 362, artist, curator and recent PhD (from U.C. Santa Barbara) Maiza Hixson co-hosts this episode's OLD NEWS, featuring updates on: protests, including the case of #metoo being spray-painted onto Gustave Courbet's painting ‘Origin de monde,' and how the article had a correction stating that the image was of a vulva, rather than a vagina; the sentencing of a woman who was involved in the vandalism of a Degas sculpture in Washington, D.C.; the vandalism on the façade of the home of Brooklyn Museum director Ann Pasternak, and how these protesters are attempting to draw attention to the various corporate ties in the art world; protests and letters relating to the war in Gaza, and the very powerful people who are influencing university protests and various politics through corporate channels; the Kehinde Wiley controversy related to accusations of sexual assault made against him; the work of the Yes Men, and how it's not about disruption, it is disruption, as exemplified in a recent intervention at a fundraising event involving a new housing development; how Maurizio Cattelan's recent bullet-hole sculptures represent the insular culture of the art world; how Leonardo da Vinci was in the vanguard of eating, in that he was one of our early vegetarians; and whether we can qualify artists as being progressives, including taking a closer look at their carbon footprints; and the wide-ranging art and fandom of Miranda July.

Disney just released what could best be described as a political ad to take a swipe at Trian's Nelson Peltz and former Disney CFO Jay Rasulo. I guess Ludwig Von Drake didn't work out so well for them? Is Bob Iger feeling the pressure to keep his board of Yes Men intact ahead of the April 3rd proxy battle? Reminder: They wouldn't be in this position if the current board hadn't constantly fumbled the ball again and again and again... ➡️ Tip Jar and Fan Support: http://ClownfishSupport.com ➡️ Official Merch Store: http://ShopClownfish.com ➡️ Official Website: http://ClownfishTV.com ➡️ Audio Edition: https://open.spotify.com/show/6qJc5C6OkQkaZnGCeuVOD1 ➡️ Gaming News: https://open.spotify.com/show/0A7VIqE3r5MQkFgL9nifNc About Us: Clownfish TV is an independent, opinionated news and commentary channel that covers Entertainment and Tech from a consumer's point of view. I'll be honest - the past few weeks have been challenging, and I'll dive deeper into that in this episode. However, I have come to realize that reaching new dimensions requires us to go through a period of demolition. Because at the end of it all, the breakdown makes us broader and more effective in every area of life. I want you to thrive in your businesses and organizations. But more importantly, I want you to succeed in becoming whole in every aspect of your life. This week, I decided to flip the script and do things a bit differently. Normally, I discuss topics surrounding growth in leadership or ways to scale your business, but today might be the most vulnerable episode I've released to date. We discuss what it means to be CALLED to our respective spheres of influence, but if you don't get anything else, I want you to be Called to Wholeness. Family, I'll be taking a few weeks to recharge to come back with fresh content. In the meantime, I encourage you to listen to some of the episodes you may have missed or revisit the ones that impacted you. Also, don't forget to register for Called to Illuminate which will take place in Los Angeles on May 17th & 18th. Remember to share, rate, and review. Subscribe now to never miss an episode, and remember, you're not random, you're Called! Learn more at calledleaders.com

One of the hoaxsters grew up Quaker and shares how his group uses lies to get corporations to admit that they mislead the public. Timothy Tarkelli, a Kansas-based Quaker who finds spiritual resonance in the silence of nature and the practice of hunting—raising questions about the intersection of faith and lifestyle. Linda Seger discusses “Circle Thinking, a Quaker Model of Leadership.” With her insights on circle thinking, Linda Sager challenges the traditional corporate hierarchy, proposing a more inclusive and collaborative approach to leadership that resonates with Quaker values. A conversation between two Quakers who draw on unexpected sources for inspiration. Sara Wolcott talks about paganism, witchcraft, and Quakers. Andy Stanton-Henry considers how Charismatic worship gets him to think deeply about his faith and practice. Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz announced before the Super Bowl on Sunday that he wasn't going to allow his wife to watch the game because the game was going to feature the "Black National Anthem" before kickoff. The song, actually called "Lift Every Voice and Sing", has been performed for the past few years at the game, but Gaetz is so angered by the thought of Black people feeling empowered and inspired that he won't allow his wife to enjoy the game. Also, Donald Trump has gone completely off the deep end at this point, and he is now trying to take credit for Taylor Swift becoming one of the biggest artists of all time. In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump attacked Swift by claiming that a bill he signed is what made her "so much money," and he then said that she would be being "disloyal" to him if she endorsed President Biden. Trump has had in it for Swift since 2018 when she endorsed candidates running against his friends, but he's completely delusional if he thinks he had anything to do with her success. And thanks to the Special Prosecutor's report, President Biden's mental fitness has been called into question over the past few days. And while there are reasons to be concerned about Biden, they don't stack up against the mental problems that Donald Trump is facing. The Morning Joe crew on MSNBC put together a shocking supercut of all of Trump's gaffes and incoherent ramblings from the past weekend, and there were plenty from just a handful of appearances. Farron Cousins explains why Trump's mental health is a greater concern than Biden's. Finally, a group of Donald Trump's allies are about to hold a two-day retreat where they will teach Trump loyalists how to blindly follow Trump's orders if they are to receive a Cabinet post (assuming he wins the election this year.) This is an absolutely terrifying development that deserves far more attention. These people are being groomed to serve as spineless "Yes Men" at Trump's disposal, and will remake the government in any form that he instructs them to do.Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FarronBalanced/Twitter: https://twitter.com/farronbalancedInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/farronbalancedTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@farronbalanced?lang=en

In this episode of Quakers Today, we ask, "When it comes to activism, do the ends justify the means?" A Barbie Hoax with a Message Actress and eco-activist Daryl Hannah speaks with host Peterson Toscano about her announcement that "Mattel intends to go 100 percent plastic-free by 2030 in all their toys. They hope to support a global ban on plastics." Unfortunately, the excitement was short-lived. Hours after People Magazine's story celebrated Mattel's eco-conscious move, the toy company contacted The New York Times to clarify the situation. In an email, Mattel described the campaign as a “hoax” that had “nothing to do with Mattel.” The company said that the activists had also created fake websites made to look as if they belonged to Mattel. “Those were duplicates — not Mattel actual sites,” it said. This elaborate hoax was perpetrated by Daryl Hannah and the Barbie Liberation Organization (BLO) against the Mattel Corporation and the media. Yet, behind this public trickery was a broader, poignant message: the need to address the environmental crisis wrought by plastic waste. One of the tricksters behind the hoax graduated from Greenwood Friends School, a Quaker elementary and middle school. As a boy, he attended Millville Friends Meeting. Operating under the pseudonym Jeff Walburn, this member of the artist-activist group the Yes Men describes the methodology behind their "mischief performances." "I helped write a lot of the materials, which includes press releases and websites. And we had a press conference. We made a fake product commercial for this new line of Barbies that would, instead of being made of plastic, be made out of mycelium and mushrooms. It's a little far-fetched because it's not being done yet, but it's also still very feasible." The Yes Men not only impersonate corporations but also suggest that these corporations are finally doing the "right thing." In doing so, they engage in what they refer to as "identity correction." In a world where conversations around activism are often steeped in solemnity, the latest episode of the Quakers Today podcast injects an element of whimsy while navigating the moral complexities inherent in social change. Host Peterson Toscano delves into a topic that straddles the lines between activism, ethics, and trickery, raising a tantalizing question: "When it comes to activism, do the ends justify the means?" Dig Deeper Read Peterson Toscano's article, “Speaking Lies to Power: Daryl Hannah, Barbie, and Quaker Tricksters” and learn about Quaker tricksters Bonnie Tinker and Benjamin Lay. Welcoming a New Generation of Quakers The September issue of Friends Journal explores how to welcome a new generation into the Quaker community. The episode features an audio collage of five writers who shared their insights and experiences around the theme. Olivia Chalkley argues that progressive Christians, including young "Christ-curious" individuals, could find a home in Quakerism by reclaiming their faith from its association with reactionary politics. Madison Rose emphasizes that the Quaker commitment to social justice and individual spiritual journeys has consistently drawn them back to the community. Quakerism, for them, is a space of "respite" that allows a direct, personal relationship with the divine, free of any intermediaries. Nikki Holland shares how Quakerism allowed her and her husband to bring their "full, true selves to worship," a stark contrast to their previous faith communities where they felt marginalized. Sofia Williams enjoys the weight of Quaker history and the sense of both immediate and long-term community felt during meetings. Annie Bingham found solace and a sense of timeless wisdom in Quaker meetings, particularly as a break from the imbalances felt in their college community. Nerd Corner Citizens' Climate's Research Coordinator, Dana Nuccitelli, delves into the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Good News Story Eco Warrior Barbies: Daryl Hannah's Major Announcement! After actress and eco-activist Daryl Hannah shared a groundbreaking announcement on behalf of the Mattel Corporation, the company behind Barbie dolls, Citizens Climate Radio host spoke with Daryl about this big bold move. Earlier this month at Los Angeles press conference, Daryl announced that Mattel has committed to going 100% plastic-free by 2030 and aims to support a global ban on plastics. To celebrate this important shift in toy production, Mattel will release a line of fully biodegradable Eco-Warrior Barbies, including one made in Daryl Hannah's likeness. She shared some of the details with us, “I have a few accessories. Well I have a mermaid tail so I can do my work in the ocean. I have a monkey wrench. I have some handcuffs but actually I used chains when I changed myself to a tree at the South Central farm. I have a snorkel so I can also you know go and check out under the ocean. I have a few more toys but I definitely have a few non plastic biodegradable tools.” If this story sounds too good to be true, it is because it is. It was all a hoax orchestrated by the fictional Barbie Liberation Organization (BLO). The real people behind this political satire is the infamous Yes Men, who for decades have fooled the press and public with their elaborate stunts. While Mattel did announce it has begun shifting its production of Barbie dolls to include recycled plastics and even unveiled Barbie Loves the Ocean; Its First Fashion Doll Collection Made from Recycled Ocean-Bound Plastic with more sustainable packaging, the BLO is trying to get us to envision a world where we find cleaner alternatives to plastics. In 1993 the BLO infamously swapped the voice boxes of Barbie dolls with GI Joe voices and returned the dolls to store shelves as a form of cultural protest. This time, they're tackling plastic pollution with a playful spoof involving eco-friendly Barbie dolls. The fake news story made national news with pieces in the LA Times, NY Times, and CBS News. Learn more about the Barbie Liberation Organization and watch the spoof TV commercial for the new Eco-Warrior Barbies Take a Meaningful Next Step Each month we will suggest meaningful, achievable, and measurable next steps for you to consider.
