Jamie is joined by Terry, an anonymous fellow traveler, to discuss the news, including: the latest billionaire space rocket explosion and why we need to keep our attention on Earth. The anti-ICE protests both inside and outside of the privately run Delaney Hall detention center in Newark, NJ, which, as of publication, show no signs of letting up. Between the flaming barricades, a sitting Senator getting pepper sprayed by ICE, and Greg Bovino threatening to "handle it himself," Delaney is becoming a key flashpoint in the fight against Trump's deportation machine. What can we learn? Plus: Trump talks shit to Netanyahu. You little podcasts are going to have your bodies ripped in half. Welcome to our last episode of Mystery May this year, where the game we play is decided by dice roll. This time around, fate has deemed it necessary for us to play the Earthbound Halloween Hack, which is notorious for a few reasons, most notably being that it was created by Toby Fox who would later go on to develop Undertale. However, the games share little in common and even the writing doesn't quite hit the same mark (and in some cases falls exceedingly short), but you can tell in the spirit of the whole thing as well as in the art and music, which were mostly also done by Fox where they weren't borrowed from the original game. The game's difficulty is also ramped up within the hack, requiring a truly awful amount of grinding for the average player, so I do think the audience for this is limited, though there is a creative idea here that is expanded on in a fairly interesting way. We're going to be talking about the creative elements of this game and its novel setup, the nature of romhacking and how it even came to be, and then we went and drank some beer and banged some chicks. Hell yeah. Thank you for joining us again this week! This whole month has been interesting game after interesting game and for very different reasons each time, so while maybe we didn't play a whole lot that we outright loved, it sure sated our curiosity a good bit. How much did you know about this game on a scale of “this is the first time I've heard of Earthbound” up to “I edit the Toby Fox wikia”? Let us know over on our Discord or in the comments below! I fell probably somewhere around the high “knew Toby Fox used to go by Radiation online” range and still didn't get exactly what I was expecting out of this. Next time, we're going to finally do some regular episodes for the summertime and up first is Donkey Kong Bananza, so we hope you'll join us then!

What are the best RPGs for someone who has never played a JRPG before? Which games teach the foundations of the genre without overwhelming new players? And which games can genuinely turn a casual player into a lifelong fan? We break down why games like Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest, Pokémon Yellow, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, Persona 5, Golden Sun, EarthBound, Suikoden II, Super Mario RPG, and Final Fantasy IV remain some of the most approachable and emotionally resonant entry points into the genre. Along the way, we talk about: Why turn-based combat is NOT outdated, the hidden brilliance of abstraction in classic JRPG design, why Pokémon “hacks into the childhood psyche”, how JRPGs teach players complex systems intuitively, why nostalgia is actually a good thing, and the games we'd introduce to our own children. Whether you're trying to introduce a friend, spouse, or child to JRPGs for the first time, or you're just reflecting on the games that shaped you, this was one of our favorite conversations in a long time. #JRPG #ChronoTrigger #FinalFantasy #Pokemon #Persona5 #EarthBound #Suikoden #GoldenSun #Nintendo #RetroGaming #VideoGames #ResonantArc Time Codes: 1. We're rhapsodising about some of the incredible fragrances we've got ournoses on lately (and beautiful new stores we've discovered while out andabout) in this episode – so jam-packed with perfumes we're telling each otherabout that we'll have to do a Part Two to fit them all in. What can we say? It'sbeen SUCH a busy time for launches and exciting newness in the fragranceworld. Indeed, during the recording of this episode, Nicola got so excited bySuzy's descriptions of a new (and affordable!) niche brand that she purchasedtheir discovery set to try for herself.Which of these would you want to try first, we wonder...?Torti Massi Miliano(57 Brewer Street)‘Massimiliano Torti was born in Florence in 1975, and his early passion forperfumery exposed him to the leading scents of the '80s and '90s. Torti hasrevolutionised perfumery by stepping away from conventional training to focuson monophonic essences, capturing the intrinsic purity of raw materials. Hecollaborated with experts in tea, chocolate, and essential oils and opened alaboratory in the heart of Umbria, to create his unique fragrances. Operatingexclusively from his workshop, Torti's work is a testament to authenticcraftsmanship, where every product is meticulously handcrafted with aprofound commitment to quality.'Atelier Rebul Golden HourBy perfumer Pascal Gaurin‘Inspired by Istanbul's most enchanting moment, Istanbul Golden Hour Eau deParfum transforms that magical time when the sun nears thehorizon—wrapping the city in a golden-hued glow—into a captivating olfactoryexperience.Top Notes: The fragrance opens with a bright and fresh touch of pear andneroli, evoking the exact moment the light begins to soften.Heart Notes: At its heart, jasmine and toasted coconut reflect the warm, inviting tones of the Golden Hour.Base Notes: Deep notes of amber accord, labdanum, and vanilla add depth, leaving a long-lasting and elegant trail on the skin.'Idiom Fragrances‘Elevated, single-minded fragrances. Designed for layering. 7 fragrances.127combinations. One you. Wear your way.'All 30ml eau de parfum are £38. Suzy got:Idiom Acoustic Rose‘Rose centre stage. A timeless, modern, universal rose. It begins bright, floral, moves through notes of juicy apricot and osmanthus before revealing deepernotes that softly hum with spice, earth, and tobacco. It's rose in all itsblooming glory.Solo: A warm, juicy, skin-close floralLayer: Adds rose-toned refinement and polish.'Idiom Pepper SolsticeA warm pulse of black and pink pepper. It's a sun-setting, compulsive burst ofvelvet spice and rounded radiance. The scent of good times.Solo: A soft, spiced skin scent. Skin on skin.Layer: Adds a unique, spiced lift to any fragrance. We wanted to capture the soul of pepper — a fragrant still-life of the mostfamous spice in the world. We sourced black pepper oil from Madagascar, aspicy but bright, citrus-laced and rounded variety that brings initial lift and asparkle of heat.Pink pepper notes add a softer pulse — fruitier, almost rosy. Then come theunexpected layers: cedarwood for dry, grounded warmth, and turmeric leafthat deepens the pepper, adding golden spice, body and a hint of zest.Together they create a pepper fragrance that's warm, sumptuous and whollyunique.'(Suzy wants to get the Palo Santo and 3D Amplifier AND the Vetiver Aceand Bergamot Hi Fi as well!)Idiom Fragrances also do a Discovery Kit of all seven fragrances for £35,which is the best way to try the layering experience.Arkive The Bright Side‘Introducing The Brightside, a fragrance that encapsulates wanderlust and thespirit of adventure. At the Tang Museum at Skidmore College, ‘Kathy Butterly: Assume Yes' surveys more than thirty years of work by one of the most inventive artists working in ceramics today. Butterly is known for small-scale sculptures that are technically daring, expressive, and often witty. At the Schick Art Gallery in Skidmore's art building, ‘Earthbound' brings together work by eleven contemporary ceramic artists. Their work ranges in techniques and aesthetic approaches from figurative to abstract, and from functional to fantastical. And opening Saturday at The Hyde Collection is ‘Toshiko Takaezu: Voices of Abstraction.' Takaezu was known for her ceramic forms and expressive glazes, and the exhibition places her work in dialogue with painters including Sam Gilliam, Adolph Gottlieb, and Lee Krasner.

Teamwork beats raw talent. It's a fact astronauts know well but one that Earthbound teams can sometimes overlook. European Space Agency astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti shares what space crews understand about building teams that work well together – and the shift that preparation undertook to make that happen. She shares what mentors taught her about being a great team member and why the 'experience' of the work day is as important as the task at hand. She also details other lessons learned from her more than 200 days in space, including: -Why the best leaders are great followers -Why space sovereignty will shape the next phase of space collaboration. "You want to be an equal partner—not just a customer." -Why the gender gap in space is closing. Learn why some astronaut classes are at parity and what it teaches other sectors about talent pipelines This interview was recorded in January 2026 at the Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. Tom Schueneman has lived a fascinating life of traveling and music, and now has been an environmental journalist for several years - literally a member of the Society for Environmental Journalists. This year he started hosting his own podcast, which was called Global Warming is Real - recently rebranded to Earthbound, which is so good. Tom is very thoughtful and really cares about the earth and people, and that comes across very clearly. Reading his Podmatch bio, I learned he was born without peripheral vision, which was repaired, but that time taught him so much empathy for humans.I loved getting to talk with Tom, because he's gotten to do some really cool things, like attend global environmental summits, and he's currently working on a film about packaging. And I loved hearing about his previous career in music! You'll see - he's just really easy to talk to, and can talk about pretty much anything. You can find Tom's website and podcast here: https://tdsenvironmentalmedia.com/He's on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/tdschueneman/and on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/WatchingthePlanetSend me a message!Support the showLike this episode? Are angels real? Okay, before you think I've blown a gasket or that the fulcrum has tipped way too far into the woo woo, rest easy. I am not hallucinating. But I have been having a series of pretty mind blowing interactions. Interactions with complete strangers whose presence in my life definitely is not a mistake. They're people whose paths cross with mine, and the words they say seem to be either in direct response to a question I'd been thinking or they have a solution to a problem I'm noodling. This time, his name was Melvin. In a world where what passes for radical honesty usually means someone is just letting things fly outta their pie-hole without much care for others, it's time for radically authentic conversation. Conscious communication is simple, but often isn't easy. That's why Cathy Brooks created Talk, Unleashed – a weekly podcast of radically honest conversation about — everything. Whether her own musings or in conversation with industry leaders, each episode invites curiosity. Curiosity not about what people do, but why they do it. Who they are and what makes them tick. It's about digging underneath to reveal the thing that is most true - that we are more alike than we are not. A mix of solo episodes where Cathy shares her insights and experience or Cathy engaged in conversation with fascinating humans doing amazing things. No matter the format - it's unvarnished, radically honest and entirely unleashed. This podcast compliments Unleashed Leadership, the coaching business through which Cathy works with symphony orchestras, corporate clients, and individuals to help them unleash and untether their leadership and connect with others in a way that truly engages.#angelsamongus #angels #coincidence #dogbehavior #baddogbehavior #dogtraining #shiftingbehavior #brutalhonesty #radicalhonesty #consciouscommunication #leadership #Conversation #connection #TalkUnleashed #fiercecompassion #UnleashedConversation #UnleashedLeadership #FixYourEndofTheLeash

Wise's endless curiosity about cultural history and geology developed in her youth after living abroad and traveling internationally. She is enticed by multicultural cuisine and will sample almost any food once. When not creating stories, she's likely wrangling teenagers, sweating on her stationary bike, reading, or studying cool rocks and minerals. Wise passionately advocates for learning evaluation, as she and three of her four kiddos (and maybe the dog), have ADHD. She earned degrees in psychology and clinical social work and lives with her family in Southern California.Book: The Debilis RisingWhen you know the Earth is dying, what will you do to save it?Tessa Horton knows there's more to life than meets the eye and her unique ability is proof. Tú Chen feels guilty about keeping his ability secret from his parents, but does it to protect them. The truth about the world is finally unveiled when they are accepted into the College of Geological Evolution, an exclusive international school run by an ancient secret society: the Keepers of the Rock. The Keepers, bestowed with supernatural abilities connected to the Earth, have a duty to protect the planet and its creatures, so humanity can reverse its accelerating course toward destruction. They alone are aware of the insidious evil that exists in the world: the Debilis—monsters who prey on mankind and willfully manipulate them for their ultimate goal—control of all Earth's resources and humanity itself. As they settle in at school, Tessa and Tú are relieved to find they are not alone. However, the pair and their extraordinary classmates soon learn how challenging their destined responsibilities will be. As Keepers, they are forbidden from directly meddling in human affairs and must rely on covert guidance to save humanity. With the stakes incredibly high, the Keepers must prepare their young scholars to stop the resurging evil. For in truth, “the hand that cradles the rock rules the world.”Keepers of the Rock: The Debilis Rising is Book One in an exciting and original YA fantasy series by E.K.Wise. There's a strategy that the devil uses to defeat the children of God, and we are often not even aware of it. Satan wants to keep you "earthbound". Earthbound means you are constantly aware of, and driven by, earthly burdens driven by the senses (sickness, financial matters, worries about your life). God wants you focused on his kingdom and heavenly matters such as “we walk by faith not by sight” and "with his stripes I am healed", and "cast your cares upon God". Satan wants you earthbound with earthly fears, and God wants you elevated to heavenly places. The question is, how do we do what God wants us to do?

You might remember news reporting from earlier this year that a 180-foot asteroid had about a 3% chance of hitting Earth in 2032. And if it did, it would unleash energy equivalent to hundreds of nuclear bombs. After further observations, astronomers revised that probability way down, to close to zero. So what is our current capability to spot Earthbound asteroids? And how are governments preparing to communicate and respond to a potential impact on a populated area?Joining Host Ira Flatow with some of the answers are Kelly Fast, from NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office, and Leviticus “L.A.” Lewis, former FEMA liaison for that office.Guests: Dr. Kelly Fast is the acting planetary defense officer in NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office, based in Laurel, Maryland.Leviticus “L.A.” Lewis is a former FEMA liaison to the NASA Planetary Defense Coordination Office.Transcripts for each episode are available within 1-3 days at sciencefriday.com. Landing at a formative time for the JRPG genre in the west, EarthBound (Mother 2: G?gu no Gyakush? / Giygas Strikes Back) loomed very large over the gaming landscape sliding between Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger, two of SquareSoft's biggest hitters from a relatively unknown studio. She elucidates the theological underpinnings that compel individuals of faith to advocate for the sustainability of our planet, framing environmental stewardship as a divine calling rather than a mere option. The conversation further delves into the implications of climate injustice, urging listeners to recognize their role in the collective responsibility to protect God's creation. Our priority now is to find -and then embody - a sense of grounded stability, a sense of safety, a sense of embodied connection to the Web of Life... This is the single most important thing we can be doing to create a world we'd want to leave behind, and this week's guest, Dan McTiernan, is one of those who is leading courses, trainings and embodied meditations that give people a genuinely grounded set of resources to feel this at a cellular, bone-deep level so that it can become the foundation for a life of authentic practice. Dan's main focus in all of his work is to really double down on the process and practice of finding our Ground. He's been working with people to really explore the physiological, psycho-emotional and existential layers of grounding as a holistic approach to a stabilised embodied sense of safety and connection. This is just so foundational to any possibility of responding to a world in which all the ground has been ripped up, and we are literally laying each cobblestone at a time before we dare take the next step. This feels a central Thrutopian capacity - to him, and to me. Dan is a friend of the podcast. We talked last on Episode 263, where we explored his concepts of embodied learning.  This time around, as we watch the death throes of the old system grow ever more violent, his experiences with the Calmer Farmer programme, his Being Earthbound Practice Circle and What's Here Now meditations feel like exactly what we all need. In this enlightening conversation, Shelley Hines shares her journey as a healer and teacher, exploring her spiritual guidance and profound connection with Mary Magdalene. She discusses the misconceptions surrounding Magdalene's identity, her role as a divine feminine figure, and the significance of the Magdalena Asteroid in astrology. The dialogue emphasizes the importance of intuition, the healing power of understanding one's lineage, and the awakening of the soul group associated with Mary Magdalene. Shelley encourages listeners to embrace their inner messages and trust their spiritual journeys. Shelley Lynn Hines, RN, MSN, is a student of life with a special focus on the Feminine Divine, and all things mystical. She had a true call and knowing that she was to become a nurse since the age of five. Working as a Registered Nurse, healer, teacher, and Lifestyle Consultant/Coach she has been helping women over 30 years. As a Certified Nurse-Midwife she attended the births of over one thousand Earthbound souls directly into her awaiting hands. Her interest in the safe arrival of these unique beings fueled her fascination in our life between lives as she furthered her studies into hypnotherapies including past life regressions and medical hypnotherapy. This also led to a brief time working with hospice patients and supported her belief that our souls come and go through a similar if not the same doorway. Born with an astrological and veiled Piscean Moon, Shelley has been sensitive to and gravitated toward all things metaphysical and occult or hidden from the mundane since a very young age. Reading her horoscope as soon as she could read, led her to study with the Steven Forest Apprenticeship Program, receiving a Master's Level Certification in Evolutionary Astrology. Using the birth chart as a tool to aid in validating the soul's purpose, karma, and dharma, is one of her methods for healing. She also includes her certification as an Intentional Creativity (T) teacher assisting women and men to set the inner critic aside and allow the muse to have a voice, so important in these times of increasing uncertainty and censoring. She is the founder of “She Rises in Wellness Women's Retreats (C)” and her biggest passion is to gather likeminded women for comfort, guidance, and learning. After a mystical experience in 2016 she began studying in earnest all things Mary Magdalene and is authoring a soon to be published book about Magdalene's archetypes in the hopes of educating the public regarding this historical figure who represents the Feminine Divine. [School of Everything Else 2025] One of the most beloved 90s RPGs, and one of the few on Super Nintendo that was released in the UK. So, while I envied Americans for getting Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IV and VI, Earthbound and Breath of Fire, THIS ONE was my first actual big console RPG. And it has problems; real playability issues that make it hard to recommend for everyone in the 20s. You'll find Mana fans who say that these don't matter, but they absolutely do. A fine comparison I came upon while mulling this one over was Breath of the Wild. Absolutely gorgeous, engrossing you in a luscious world dominated by fertile nature, but Link's swords breaking after half a dozen battles are not going to make the game more fun and engaging for everyone. And yet, there IS that immersion, there is the overwhelming emotional response that Mana fans have to the music and art style, and there's the undeniably satisfying THWACK of the combat. So, come on a journey with us and the three intrepid adventuring kids, Primm, Popoi and Randi, and decide whether playing Secret of Mana is right for you.
