John is joined by Hayley Williams and producer Daniel James to discuss how they wrote and recorded the album ‘Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party'.  Hayley Williams is an American pop-punk and rock musician. She began writing songs in her early teens, signing a deal with Atlantic Records at just 15 years old. The label wanted her to be a solo artist, but Hayley had other ideas, instead forming the band Paramore with three school friends. Paramore released their first album ‘All We Know Is Falling' when Hayley was still only 16. They quickly built a loyal fanbase as audiences resonated with the energy and passion in their music. The band went on to release five more albums and win numerous awards including three Grammys. In 2020 Hayley released her first, highly acclaimed solo album ‘Petals for Armor'. Sophomore album ‘FLOWERS for VASES/descansos' followed in 2021 to further critical praise. ‘Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party', released in August this year on Hayley's own label Post Atlantic, is her third collaboration with musician, producer and longtime friend Daniel James. With the Nintendo Switch 2 officially released and one in-hand, I give my first impressions on what it's like using the console (very sparingly) and why the Switch 2 Pro controller is a noticeable upgrade over the previous model. If that's not enough excitement, I also talk about the recent PlayStation State of Play and the surprising game that stood out to me most--spoilers: it's Shakespearean. Kirsten Vangsness is an actor, YouTuber, podcaster, graphic novelist & playwright. She is most known for playing Penelope Garcia on the long running CBS crime drama Criminal Minds, for which she co-wrote 5 episodes, including the series finale. Bob Kinney is a recovered alcoholic after an 18-year battle of severe alcoholism. He is a father of six children and has 12 grandchildren. He is a veteran with a heart for homeless veterans. He is a Christian, retired carpenter, and devoted father and grandpa, residing in New Hope, MN. He is the author of Kill Me or Cure Me, a memoir published in 2024 which relives the story of his addiction and eventual recovery: Kill Me or Cure Me: A Message of True Recovery from Addiction.  This is a true story about addiction, recovery, and the destructive effects on family and loved ones. Treatment after treatment, meeting after meeting, and medications of every kind could not cure the craving or satisfy the emptiness brought on by my addiction. And none of which eased the quilt or shame he felt from the pain he had caused others. So, into the perpetual relapse he went, struggling for sobriety and attempting to conquer the craving, the great force feeding the addiction.  But this story does not end in defeat, a story sadly too common in this world. Rather this is a story to find an answer, to see ourselves for what we are and what we can become, being set free of this nightmare, and the ability to have true recovery and restoration of life. In this interview, Bob shares a story or two of his experience of being at the lowest point of life from alcohol addiction where he lost everything and became homeless - his point of no return. Then, how he turned it around finding recovery and re-establishing relationships with his children and grandchildren. He wants to share how much he appreciates sobriety and life as a father/grandfather thanks to our loving and gracious God. His daughter, Colleen Schaeffel, who wrote her own memoir (Do You Believe in Me) is also present in the interview to talk about her dad: the dad she helped see his way to recovery. In her book Colleen tells the true story of the perfect family torn apart by addiction. She rallied her siblings to stand together through adversity, loss and whatever it took to find hope in their lives and recovery for their father. Unfortunately, in 2022 Lisa was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer and took a leave of absence from the Jamaica Inn paranormal team. Her experience with this awful disease spurred her on to write her book ‘My Boob Tried to Kill Me!'. Her aim is to help those who have been affected by cancer, whether they be the patient or one of their loved ones. Cancer doesn't affect just the patient but all those around them in ever-decreasing circles.  In this episode, you will be able to:  1. Nicola Hanney had beaten the odds and survived a terminal cancer diagnosis when she met Garda Paul Moody. At first, she thought it was her happy ever after, but soon his behaviour became extremely controlling and abusive. When she became pregnant, he only gained more power over her. Then, the cancer came back. Nicola fought the cancer while dealing with threats, blackmail and abuse from Paul who felt his position as a Garda made him untouchable. As someone from the disability community, I'm often let down by how our community is portrayed in comics and it is rare to see our struggle reflected accurately. A month or two ago on social media that shall not be named, I saw screenwriter Peter Warren talking about his new comics project The Tin Can Society dropping right now from Image Comics on Rick Remender's Giant Generator Imprint, where he's using a sensitivity reader to help with the portrayal of the main protagonist tech mogul and superhero Johnny Moore. It has become common for writers to enlist a little help to make sure they are sensitive to the challenges of different marginalized groups, something I'm wholeheartedly in favor of, so I reached out to Peter and sensitivity reader Gianna Marie to hear more about this unique type of collaboration and what exactly it entails.
