We had the pleasure of interviewing Kat Leon of Holy Wars over Zoom video! Los Angeles’ dark pop-rock band Holy Wars have released their latest single “TV Dinner” with a bold, eye-catching new music video. A twisted take on mid-century America, the track puts consumer culture on blast with singer Kat Leon’s searing vocals and biting lyrics. “TV Dinner” is the second single off the band’s highly anticipated debut full-length LP tentatively titled Eat It Up / Spit It Out. The track follows lead single “Little Godz” which was featured on Allison Hagendorf’s Spotify show “Rock This” (Ep 4 - with Bring Me The Horizon). It also appeared on “Best Rock Songs of 2020”, “New Alt” and “New Noise” playlists. The video for “TV Dinner,” directed by Erin Naifeh (Hereditary, Stoker, Light As A Feather), is a wild ride into maniacal psychosis that is reminiscent of the trappings of human nature and society that 50’s and 60’s TV icon Rod Serling warned of in the classic series The Twilight Zone©. Holy Wars is: vocals and lyrics, Kat Leon; guitarist and producer, Nicolas Perez; and drums, Greg Garman. ABOUT HOLY WARS: Holy Wars’ music expands genres with a sound that feels like a punch to the face. Unapologetically honest with clever, thought provoking lyrics over a driving, aggressively fun and energetic body. The imagery behind the music tells even more of the story through their creative approach to style and artistic visuals revealing a commentary of the self and society. They connect so deeply to the listener which in turn has made a long lasting fan feel more like family. Holy Wars is vocalist/songwriter Kat Leon and guitarist/producer Nicolas Perez (Poppy, The Beta Machine, Kitten). Their story begins with the loss of Kat Leon's late parents inspiring their debut EP Mother Father. Following this, Holy Wars would erupt with explosive music dripping with gritty guitar tones, Leon’s incredible vocal range laced with a fusion of dark pop, indie rock, punk and hip hop. As accomplished writers/composers for tv/film, they have garnered an incredible and authentic versatility in their music that makes them unique and leaves you wanting more. We want to hear from you! Since the pandemic caused courthouses to close and law practice to shift almost entirely online, practically overnight, Lawclerk has seen demand spike. The provider of on-demand virtual associates has doubled in size since the beginning of the year. That’s double the number of projects, and an increase in the value of projects overall, Lawclerk’s co-founder tells host Adriana Linares. So why the growth spurt? Garman says that even though some firms were cutting back, solo and small firm practices started to focus on their most important work but needed to find a way to support their lower-priority matters. So while lawyers were spending time on their best clients and best prospects, they were sending matters more often to freelance associates through Lawclerk. [Disclosure: Lawclerk is a sponsor of the New Solo podcast.] The pandemic created a real-time test of Lawclerk’s model. It demonstrated that it could adjust to assist its core market of lawyers who need occasional associate support without creating additional business overhead. Garman and Linares also discuss the many lessons learned and new ways co-workers are connecting. Garman notes that he now communicates with more people in a single day than he did when the team worked 40-feet from one another. Greg Garman is co-founder of Lawclerk. Special thanks to our sponsors, Clio, Lawclerk, ROSS, and Alert Communications.

It was an epiphany, of sorts, for Greg Garman. In 2015, after 18 years at the same firm, including several as managing partner, he came to believe that most firms operated under a broken business model. Within weeks, he and several colleagues left the firm to start a smaller, more innovative practice, and he began to develop the concept for LawClerk, a marketplace where solos and small firms can hire freelance lawyers to assist them with specific projects. Now CEO of LawClerk, Garman -- who started the company together with his law partners Talitha Gray Kozlowski and Kristin Tyler -- has a vision for someday building it into the largest backbone provider of legal services in the United States. More importantly, he believes LawClerk will disrupt how small firms hire and how freelance lawyers get work -- providing both firms and freelancers greater profitability and flexibility. In this episode of LawNext, Garman joins host Bob Ambrogi to discuss why he believes LawClerk provides small firms with a better option for staffing their firms, one that he says will enable them to be more profitable while charging their clients less. He also shares his thoughts about the business of law more broadly and how he sees the industry evolving. NEW: We are now on Patreon! With work flowing away from mid-sized firms with high overhead to either the established elite or small shops, the shape of the legal labor market was bound to change as well. And while small shops are capturing bigger and bigger jobs in part because of advances in legal technology, at some point there will always be a need for a human lawyer. That's where Lawclerk's solution comes in at the intersection of technology and human capital. Joe chats with Greg Garman and Talitha Gray about their platform and how they help efficiently match freelancers with small shops needing a dose of expertise.
