Jens Zygar's early experiences—living his first decade in Liberia, then moving to the North Sea coast of Germany to attend boarding school—have given him a multicultural perspective on musical language. He began his professional exploration of sound as a guitarist in the Hamburg-based new wave band Große Freiheit (Great Freedom). In the early 1980s, Swiss author and scientist Hans Cousto introduced him to the concept of the “cosmic octave,” inspiring him to develop “planetary gongs” that resonate with the frequencies, tones, and harmonics in nature. In the late 1980s, he cofounded the Stars Sounds Orchestra with keyboardist Steve Schroyder, combining the gongs with electronic sounds. Der Mathematiker und Musikwissenschaftler Hans Cousto erblickte im Mai 1948 in Monthey in der französischen Schweiz das Licht dieser Welt. Er studierte an der Eidgenössischen Technischen Hochschule (ETH) Mathematik. Da er an der ETH keine Antworten auf die grundlegende Frage, was trivial und was beweisbar ist, fand, reiste er nach Indien um der Weisheit näher zu kommen. Die 70er Jahre waren geprägt von einem hedonistischen Lebensstil, von der Liebe zu Tanz, Ekstase und anderen Lustbarkeiten, von philosophischen Fragen und psychedelischen Erfahrungen. Nach diversen Reisen in den nahen und mittleren Osten zog er 1975 nach München, wo er für einige Jahre in der Riedelstraße in einer zwei alte Häuser umfassenden Wohngemeinschaft von freischaffenden Künstlern und Hippies lebte. Die Kommunarden der Riedelstraße, zwischen Isar und dem Englischen Garten gelegen, liebten es nicht nur sich in östliche Philosophie zu vertiefen und verschiedene Meditationstechniken zu praktizieren, sondern machten auch viel Musik und beschäftigten sich gerne und intensiv mit Astronomie und Astrologie. Dabei entdeckte Hans Cousto nach der Einnahme mehrerer Zauberpilze (spitzkegelige Kahlköpfe) im Englischen Garten am 2. Oktober 1978 in einer Vision die universelle Bedeutung des Oktavgesetzes für die Bestimmung der harmonikalen Kammertöne, die er von astronomischen Gegebenheiten abgeleitet hatte. Seit 1994 engagiert sich Hans Cousto in Berlin und in der Schweiz für Eve & Rave, einem Verein zur Förderung der Party- und Technokultur und zur Minderung der Drogenproblematik. In der Technokultur verbinden sich Elemente alter Riten und Traditionen aus der Schamanenmusik, der Mantrik und den orientalischen Tanz- und Meditationstechniken mit modernem High-Tech-Know-how. Erkenntnisse aus dem Bereich der Kosmischen Oktave lassen sich nahtlos in die Strukturen der Technomusik und der dazugehörigen Light-Show eingliedern.
