Krea aka Karen Cowley is one third of Wyvern Lingo, the Choice Prize-nominated group who are currently on hiatus. Krea has just released her debut EP, The Callows. Here, she talks about the band's hiatus and how her solo project started up, before we talk through the EP track by track. Cowley was awarded the prestigious Music Bursary by the Arts Council, as well as a residency at the renowned Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris. It was during this residency that she dedicated her time to crafting the songs that would make up The Callows. She says: "The Callows are the flat grasslands along the Shannon, and the word comes from the Irish 'caladh' for meadow. My mother is from Shannonbridge, Co. Offaly, where I spent a lot of time as a child. There's something really tranquil and ancient about the landscape there. I wrote 'The Callows' at a time where I was feeling unmoored and craving a stronger sense of identity and rootedness. Images of this beautiful part of the country kept coming to mind, particularly the view from where my grandparents are buried at Clonmacnoise Monastery along the river. The Irish landscape and the effect that it has on me comes into each of these songs in some way, so I wanted to acknowledge that in some way in the title and artwork." Krea tour dates: July 20 - Frank's Place, Wexford July 21 - Sea Church Ballycotton, Cork July 30 - Workman's Cellar, Dublin EP LAUNCH August 17 - Harbour Bar, Bray, Double Headliner with Caoi de Barra Buy The Callows: https://krea.bandcamp.com/album/the-callows

Candlelit Tales will broadcast a special show on Easter Sunday at (19:00GMT) live-streamed from a studio in Dublin. 2021 has started without much to write home about. We are still in lockdown, and we are all collectively straining to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Looking back to the stories of the Fianna, we have a very special voyage tale to tell you about, and it is the story of the grey thin man, Caoilte Mac Ronán. The legendary hero could run faster than anyone in the Fianna, and he was so swift he was able to run off to the other world. He came back to share one story with us, and impart us with a truly great message, and one we need to hear in these strange and uncertain times. Join us this Sunday at (3/7)PM and listen live as we broadcast from our storytelling show, ‘Caoilte’s Rabble and Return’, from the comfort of your own homes, as we share the ancient stories we love to tell with the Harbour Bar as sponsors helping us spread the story to a wider audience. On accordions, melodeons, the push draw and The Pure Drop; Portrush sessions at the Harbour Bar, Ballycastle sessions at The House of McDonnell. The snug. Athlone. The borderlands of Fermanagh, Coleraine and Ceili House. And Coronation Street even gets a mention. As in - and I'm paraphrasing - 'Now and again something might have been taped over with an episode of Coronation Street.' Ciaran's archive, which he shares on a daily basis, is astonishing. A seemingly endless treasure trove of clips featuring startling hair from the 1980s, large spectacles, fancy shirts and amazing players. Here's a typical example.
