This week I'm joined by world record endurance athlete, entrepreneur, TV star, podcaster and all-round reformed rogue - Spencer Matthews. Spencer is living proof that you can go from Made in Chelsea, to made for greatness. His adventures have seen him travel to the furthest reaches of the globe including on a journey to find the body of his brother Michael who perished at age 22 after reaching the summit of Everest, an expedition outlined in the award-winning documentary Finding Michael. While you might know Spencer from reality TV, but these days he's less ‘Pimm's o'clock' and more 'get up at 5am, meditate, then casually run 26 miles before breakfast.' He's just smashed a world record by running 30 marathons in 30 days through sand dunes and searing heat—raising over half a million euro for mental health charities, which is incredible. He also ran around a track for 24 hours straight and what's more is he's following that up by doing 7 full Ironman triathlons on 7 continents in 4 weeks. Because apparently one Ironman just wasn't stressful enough! If you're new to the series, why not take the time to go back and catch up on the wonderful interviews that you may have missed!Visit www.dermotwhelan.com for more information and don't forget my new book Busy and Wrecked is out now! Anna's guest this week is Ashley James: woman full of contradictions. Originally from a working class family in Northumberland, she won a scholarship to boarding school where she had to change her accent to fit in, and had a friend with a castle who quite literally rubbed shoulders with royalty. She found fame via Made in Chelsea, and it's been hard graft since then: she's DJ'd all over the world, built up an impressive broadcasting career, and is now a regular on This Morning. Over the past decade she's become increasingly known for her outspoken work around the double standards affecting women in the media, and she's here to talk about what it's really like being a woman in the public eye, and the cost of what our cultural objectification of women has had on us.If you or someone you know is struggling with any of the topics discussed in It Can't Just Be Me, you can find useful resources and support here: https://audioalways.lnk.to/ItcantjustbemeIG.Every Friday Anna, alongside a panel of experts, will be addressing YOUR dilemmas in our brand new episodes ‘It's Not Just You'! If you have a dilemma or situation you'd like discussed, reach out to Anna by emailing hello@itcantjustbeme.co.uk or DM her on Instagram @itcantjustbemepod Hosted on Acast. This week I was delighted to welcome the lovely Millie Mackintosh to the podcast. She's a reality TV star turned entrepreneur, she's a mother to two girls and many of you will recognize her from her breakout role on Made in Chelsea. Since then, she's carved out an incredible career as a wellness advocate, businesswoman, and with her new book, Bad Drunk, an author now too. During the episode, we discuss the contents of the book, which as the title suggests is about Millie's complicated journey with alcohol, through a parenting lens. She is so wonderfully open about how alcohol negatively impacted her world, including her ability to parent. She also talks me through how she attempts to navigate disciplining her girls, which believe me I was taking notes on. It's a deeply personal and empowering episode, and whether she's sharing her journey through motherhood, her love of fashion, or her passion for mental well-being, Millie's authenticity, and insight shine through. Enjoy this last episode, thank you so much for your support, comments, DMs, and listens, and I'll be back to you next season with lots more. Hosted on Acast. And finally, I reflect on my deep desire to be liked and that need to be remembered, rather than forgotten, which has motivated me to keep pushing forward. This episode was a bit out of my comfort zone but it's a reminder that sometimes, you just have to dive in and see where it takes you.And thank you for listening to the show - whether you've been here from the beginning or it's a recent find, I really appreciate every single listen so thank you!
