Dig Me Out - The 90's rock podcast

While 1991 is regarded as the true launch of the 1990s alternative explosion into the mainstream, the sheer volume and diversity of music that followed in 1992 might lay claim to the crown as the most interesting year of the decade. The mainstays of 80s college rock were alive and well, with albums by R.E.M., Bob Mould's new band Sugar, Faith No More, The Cure, The Lemonheads, Sonic Youth, Soul Asylum, and many more. The ubiquitous "grunge" sound was fully ensconced in radio and MTV with Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains, and Screaming Trees added to playlists, while more aggressive sounds emerged from the likes of Rage Against the Machine, Helmet, Pantera, and White Zombie. Underground scenes cracked the mainstream as well, as industrial and electronic acts such as Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, The Orb, Curve, Aphex Twin, and others made significant noise, and the growing UK shoegaze scene produced records from Lush, Catherine Wheel, Ride, Moose, etc. And this barely scratches the surface, as hip-hop saw the release of the decade-defining albums The Chronic by Dr. Dre and Check Your Head by the Beastie Boys, as well as albums by Arrested Development, Ice Cube, Das EFX, Redman, The Pharcyde, and more. And that barely scratches the surface.   Songs In This Episode: Intro - 1992 Medley (Them Bones by Alice In Chains, Wish by Nine Inch Nails, Unsung by Helmet, Somebody To Shove by Soul Asylum) Outro - Miles Iz Dead by The Afghan Whigs   Support the podcast, join the DMO UNION at Patreon. Like myself, Helen is part of the Sustainable Beauty Coalition Steering Committee. Before joining Lush, Helen worked in financial services, specialising in international cosmetics retail, then shifted to the financial reporting process, with an interest in climate change. An avid sustainability advocate, she wants to make sustainability accessible to and actionable by all.In this episode, Helen tells us about her ‘full circle' career path at LUSH, how LUSH has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to sustainability and purpose and why more beauty brands should be in coalition with one another. The ask: If we do nothing, nothing is going to change except get worse. If you want to do something, just go and do it. No action is too small. Lush is bailing on social media  They've deleted all their content from Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok saying they'll stay off those social media channels globally until the platforms ensure a safer environment for their users. They're saying goodbye to strong marketing channels with 659,000 Instagram followers, 275,000 Twitter fans and more than 1 million Facebook followers. They say their products - like the bath bomb - are designed to help people switch off and relax - which is the opposite to what social media does. Samsung to start making chips in Texas They'll be spending $17 billion on a new factory spanning five million square meters and creating 2,000 jobs - it's a big project! They'll be making advanced logic semiconductors, which are used in phones and computers. It's an effort by Samsung to diversify the supply chain for desperately needed chips, which are largely produced in Asia. Biden's administration will be happy with this news because they're focusing on bringing more critical manufacturing closer to these shores - the supply chain holes are so glaring it's becoming a national security risk. This will be Samsung's biggest investment in the USA so far, and should be producing components from late 2024.

Ted and John welcome photographer/author/podcaster Mike Hipple to the podcast to talk about his book "Lived Through That: '90s Musicians Today." The discussion centers on folks who created a lot of indie and alternative music in the early to mid-1990s. Some were part of huge bands -- like Krist Novoselic from Nirvana. Others were from groups like Belly, Lush, Cracker, Bratmobile, and Jellyfish. The guys also spotlight their top three songs from bands and artists featured in Mike's book.

(One of the many misconceptions about New Zealand). People in our private New Zealand community will often ask, is the food in New Zealand better? That's a tricky one. It depends where you come from and what you class as better. After her 2018 debut Lush catapulted Lindsey Jordan into the spotlight, she was suddenly working harder — and more regularly — at the age of 18 than most people work in their lives. The tours, interviews, and TV appearances kept coming, and with them a growing cult of personality surrounding Jordan. All of this and more is explored on Valentine, the new album from Snail Mail. Where 2021 found many artists scaling back their productions into its more bare bones (see: Clairo and Lorde), Jordan used the opportunity to flesh out the Snail Mail sound substantially. Valentine is full of piano, synths, strings, and even boasts jazzy bass lines and tinges of R&B.In this week's Recommendation Corner, Ian is plugging Sup, the latest LP from Super American, and while Steve is promoting the latest effort from Neal Francis, In Plain Sight. You can submit questions for Steve and Ian at indiecastmailbag@gmail.com, and make sure to follow us on Instagram and Twitter for all the latest news.
