Founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese in West Berlin, Tangerine Dream is one of the most prominent electronic music pioneers. After Edgar Froese's death in 2015, the group consists of Thorsten Quaeschning, Hoshiko Yamane, and Paul Frick. Thorsten is the current bandleader and the main creative force of the project, after spending many years under the direct guidance of Froese. In the following interview, he discusses the challenges of continuing such a huge legacy and the present phase of the project.

Today's guest deejay is Jakob Lindhagen. Sofia Nystrand introduced me to several fantastic musicians after sharing her Vargkvint mix on Soundwave (you can listen to it here). Jakob was one of those musicians, and after I listened to some of his releases, I invited him to guest deejay. Jakob is an award-winning film composer based in Stockholm, Sweden. His most recent soundtrack is Ziba, a movie about an alienated upper-class housewife in today's modern Tehran. Jakob's soundtrack for Ziba will be released Thursday, May 12. You can listen to a single from the soundtrack here. It's a beautiful, moving piece. Speaking of soundtracks, I listened to Jakob's mix while playing the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game on Roll20. Dessen Vorstellung stand im Mittelpunkt der Sendung. Thorsten Quaeschning, Hoshiko Yamane und Paul Frick gaben im Detail Auskunft über die Produktion der neuen Stücke, die partiell noch auf Melodien des TD- Gründers Edgar Froese basieren. Es ging aber auch um die Bedeutung der Titelnamen, das Artwork, ihre Setliste für die UK- Tournee, die Instrumente im Studio und Liveeinsatz…und viel mehr in dieser speziellen „elektro beats“- Ausgabe aus dem Tangerine Dream- Studio.

Solénoïde (08.03.2021) - Pour notre plus grand bonheur, Eraldo Bernocchi s'est trouvé une nouvelle partenaire de jeu musical: la violoniste Hoshiko Yamane. Sur "Mujo", ce duo italo-japonais nous fait vivre un trip cosmique et mélancolique de haut vol. Une expérience fascinante, à la croisée des sonorités de la Berlin school, de l'esprit de l'ambient techno et de la composition néoclassique. Du côté de Berlin, l'américaine Danielle De Picciotto revient avec un 3e album solo "The Element of Love", un assemblage exquis de spoken words, d'harmonies de violon mélancolique et de paysages sonores électroniques. Avec la publication de "Guanyin", l'occasion était trop belle de s'attarder sur Jah Wobble qui nous offre le petit frère de son album "Chinese Dub" (2008). Un album réalisé en famille, avec sa femme harpiste Zi-Lan Liao, et leurs deux fils, un album mosaïcal aux confins de la pop, du reggae, du funk et de la musique traditionnelle chinoise.

Husband & wife duo Milosz & Magdelena Pekala, playing percussion instruments with the use of the vibraphone & marimba to great effect, accompanied by Asuna Arashi on synths & electro-acoustics devices. Hypnotic & warm modern grooves of Sine, the four-piece Texan band Thousand Foot Whale Claw, giving us a wall of sound Inspired by progressive 70’s German kraut-rock & finally Mikael Lind collaboration with the Tangs member Hoshiko Yamane, musically both have the knack for creating mesmerizing ambient music with classical influences, violin, viola and piano being at the forefront. Noch bis zum 02. Mai 2020 läuft in der Londoner Barbican-Music-Library die Tangerine Dream-Ausstellung "Zeitraffer". England und speziell London hat in der TD-Biographie einen ganz großen Stellenwert - starte doch von dort durch maßgebliche Unterstützung der Radio-Legende John Peel und den Plattenvertrag bei dem neu gegründeten Virgin-Records-Label von Richard Branson ihre spätere musikalische Weltkarriere. Am vergangenen Wochenende fand in London anlässlich des 5. Todestags von Tangerine Dream-Gründer Edgar Froese ein spezieller "Memorial Day" mit Lesungen aus seiner Autobiographie und Kurzkonzerten von Linda Spa, Hoshiko Yamane, Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Paul Frick und Thorsten Quaeschning statt. Dazu begrüßte Olaf Zimmermann als „elektro beats“-Studiogast Bianca Froese-Acquaye.
