Playlist:Hope Tala - Thank Goodnessserpentwithfeet, Ben Reilly - SEAGULLHnos Munoz - largo adiósThe Smile - Don't Get Me Started (James Holden Remix)Gorillaz, Paul Simonon, Johnny Marr - CasablancaEverything is Recorded, Sampha, Laura Groves, Jah Wobble, Yazz Ahmed - Losing YouTunde Adebimpe - God KnowsThe Voidz - Blue Demonbdrmm, Working Men's Club - goitReal Lies - A Land BeyondTwo Shell - OopsMarie Davidson - Y.A.A.M.Paris Texas - Twin GeekerMiss Grit - Mind DisasterDesire - Dream GirlGino Paoli - Il cielo in una stanzaGuitarricadelafuente - TramuntanaJames Blake - Trying TimesLykke Li - Knife in the HeartHarry Styles - Ready, Steady, Go!Mala Gestión - Buenos días VietnamHofe, InnerCut - R.A.Carrera Blanca - Todo sale malCarlos Ares - Días de perrosSassy 009 - ButterfliesMerina Gris - Mejor*Jim Legxacy - idk idkThundercat, Mac Miller - She Knows Too MuchCA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso, Fred again.. - Lo quiero ya!Fred again.., CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso - Beto’s Horns (Daphni remix)Future Islands - Find LoveNation of Language - Inept ApolloAvalon Emerson - EdenSoft Cell - Out Come The FreaksHoney Dijon - The NightlifeLoaded Honey - Don’t SpeakJungle - Carry OnBruno Mars - I Just MightDanny L Harle, PinkPantheress - StarlightNinajirachi - iPod TouchUnderscores - Tell Me (U Want It)Grace Ives - AvalancheArlo Parks - BladesEscuchar audio

In this episode, Martin Atkins (Public Image Ltd., Killing Joke, Pigface) joins the show from his Post-Punk and Industrial Music Museum to discuss the upcoming 45th-anniversary recreation of Public Image Ltd.’s third album, The Flowers of Romance. On Saturday, April 11, Martin returns to Reggie’s in Chicago with a "murderers' row" of talent, including Chris Connelly, Robert Byrne, Leyla Royale, Orville Kline, Alicia Gaines, and Alan Lake, to bring the stark, experimental, and percussive record back to the stage. Martin reflects on the "Music Concrete" nature of the original recording sessions, which were defined by improvisation and disregard for traditional rock structures. He shares fascinating stories behind the album's signature sounds, such as the ticking of a Mickey Mouse watch used for the track "Four Enclosed Walls" and the CO2 fire extinguisher that opens "Under the House". He also sheds light on the band’s internal dynamics during that era, including the departure of bassist Jah Wobble and Keith Levene’s intense focus on video game. The conversation also covers Martin’s recent performance of Killing Joke’s “Extremities” and his complex, perhaps a bit strained, relationship with John Lydon. Martin discusses how his museum has become a surprising hub for younger generations who are just now discovering the textures and stories of the post-punk movement. I adore Martin, respect his career and business mind, and always love talking with him. Hope you enjoy the chat, and to see you at Reggie’s! ### This episode is brought to you by Exploding House Printing. "The Bus Routes Of South London" The London-born Jah Wobble is one of the most legendary musicians on the planet. The celebrated bassist burst onto the radar with PiL, playing on the first two albums--Public Image: First Issue and Metal Box--both of which remain undisputed classics. After leaving the band, Wobble stayed busy, playing in The Human Condition and on the Snake Charmer EP with The Edge and with his own band Invaders Of The Heart. Wobble left the industry for a few years working for a while with The London Underground--more on that in a minute--but in the late '80s a newly sober Wobble reformed the Invaders and they put out a string of winning albums like Rising Above Bedlam and Take Me To God. And from there? Well, from there, he just kept working with a list of impressive folks like Sinead O'Connor, The Orb, Ginger Baker, Dolores O'Riordan, Massive Attack, Gavin Friday, Brian Eno, Bjork and Primal Scream. Wobble has also put out a memoir called Memoirs Of A Geezer, which is such a great read, he finished his university degree at the University of London, wrote book reviews for the Independent, wrote a book of poetry, started teaching, played in a band with his sons, and played with the Chinese Dub Orchestra. This list only tells a percentage of the story; Jah Wobble is a man whose lane is not having a lane. He's one of the greatest dub musicians of all time, but he's also someone who's curious about the world and his curiosity has found him exploring ambient music, dance usic, post-punk, world music, dub, Chinese folk, English Folk, and industrial music. His album Old Fashioned Ways with reggae hero Ken Boothe came out in 2025 and it's a glorious and affecting listen. Meanwhile, his other 2025 album The Old North London Line is a proper sequel to The Bus Routes Of South London, where Wobble explores the cinematic and atmospheric sounds of the daily grooves that can be found between stops on the London tracks. www.jahwobble.com (http://www.jahwobble.com) www.bombshellradio.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers: IG + BLUESKY: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

1977, and as Britain prepared to celebrate the Queen's Silver Jubilee, the Sex Pistols were plotting something else entirely. Fresh from being dropped by two major labels, they signed with Virgin Records and unleashed God Save the Queen… a blistering punk anthem that tore into the monarchy and shattered British tradition. It was banned by the BBC, blacklisted from shops, and allegedly kept from reaching Number 1. And then, on Jubilee Day, the Pistols took to the Thames in a now-legendary riverboat stunt that ended with police raids and arrests.Episode 5 is the story of how the Pistols hijacked Britain's biggest party, declared war on the establishment, and created the most controversial single in UK history.Featuring archive interviews from: Richard Branson, Johnny Rotten, Steve Jones, Paul Cook, Malcolm McLaren and Sid Vicious alongside new interviews with the legendary Sex Pistols official photographer Dennis Morris and groundbreaking bass player Jah Wobble.Presented by Gina Birch and Steve LamacqA BBC Audio Production

After Public Image Ltd's second album Metal Box (known as Second Edition in the United States,) bass player Jah Wobble left. John Lydon and Keith Levene continued on, with drummer Martin Atkins, for the extremely experimental The Flowers of Romance. Despite being as non-commercial as possible, it was still a modest hit in the UK and a few other places around the world. It would also be the last album featuring the original band members.

Rockshow Episode 206 Public Image LtdPublic Image Ltd (PiL) is a post-punk band formed in 1978 by John Lydon (formerly Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols) after the breakup of the Sex Pistols. The group is renowned for its experimental approach, blending elements of punk, dub, dance, and avant-garde music. Lydon's provocative lyrics and distinctive vocal style have been central to the band's identity.Key Features and History:1.Formation and Early Years:•After leaving the Sex Pistols, Lydon teamed up with guitarist Keith Levene (formerly of The Clash) and bassist Jah Wobble.•Their debut album, First Issue (1978), introduced a stark departure from punk's raw simplicity, featuring a more experimental, bass-heavy sound.2.Breakthrough Album: Metal Box (1979):•Metal Box, their second album, is often hailed as a post-punk masterpiece. It featured hypnotic rhythms, dissonant guitars, and dub-inspired bass lines, with songs like “Death Disco” and “Albatross.”•The album was originally released in a metal film canister, emphasizing their avant-garde ethos.3.Lineup Changes:•PiL has gone through numerous lineup changes over the years, with Lydon being the only consistent member. Key collaborators have included Martin Atkins (drums) and later musicians like Bruce Smith and Lu Edmonds.4.Musical Evolution:•Over the decades, PiL has experimented with a wide range of styles, from danceable grooves on albums like Album (1986) to a more stripped-down rock approach on later works.•Their hit “Rise” (1986) remains one of their most accessible songs, with the refrain “Anger is an energy” becoming iconic.5.Hiatus and Reformation:•After releasing That What Is Not (1992), the band went on hiatus as Lydon pursued other projects.•PiL reformed in 2009 and released new material, including This is PiL (2012) and What the World Needs Now… (2015).6.Legacy:•PiL is credited with influencing numerous genres and artists, from post-punk to industrial and alternative rock.•Their emphasis on innovation and boundary-pushing has solidified their reputation as one of the most daring and original bands of their era.Notable Songs:“Public Image”“Death Disco”“Rise”“This is Not a Love Song”“Flowers of Romance”PiL remains a vital force in music, with Lydon continuing to challenge norms and redefine his artistic output.https://www.pilofficial.com/https://www.facebook.com/share/17tcHb1i8G/?mibextid=LQQJ4dhttps://www.instagram.com/pilofficial?igsh=MmQ0ajVibTA2N3Ixhttps://x.com/pilofficial?s=21&t=Mzw5de5zsR-SDDbhyzH0Lghttps://youtube.com/@pilofficial?si=BcHd6fXVRXQxQfrb#PublicImageLtd#PiL#JohnLydon#PostPunk#ExperimentalMusic#MetalBox#AngerIsAnEnergy#Rise#ThisIsNotALoveSong#PostPunkLegend#AvantGardeMusic#PunkRockHistory#DubInfluence#80sMusic#MusicInnovation#AlternativeMusicIconsPlease follow us on Youtube,Facebook,Instagram,Twitter,Patreon and at www.gettinglumpedup.comhttps://linktr.ee/RobRossiGet your T-shirt at https://www.prowrestlingtees.com/gettinglumpedupAnd https://www.bonfire.com/store/getting-lumped-up/Subscribe to the channel and hit the like button This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support https://www.patreon.com/Gettinglumpedup

Generous with his time, expansive with his bass playing, and one of the funniest people I've ever spoken with, Jah Wobble sits down with a couple of his favorite basses to discuss the gestalt of his 45 plus years as a bass man and band leader. Musical instigator for the first (and best) couple of albums by John Lydon's post-Sex Pistols combo Public Image Ltd, Jah has gone on to create a massive and impossible-to-classify body of work in the ensuing decades. This ¡Golazo! Matt pulls out loads of 10” records and dusts them off, pulling records is almost as fun as spinning them on the radio - especially when you are like “OH YEAH, THAT!”. The show is also influenced by the April skies, overcast, rainy, and moody. The music reflects this atmospheric environment with deep dark bass, underground dub, and remixes that match- enhance the originals.Music M83, Josh Werner, The Beta Band, Yu Su, Andrew Weatherall, Timothy J Fairplay, Primal Scream, David Holmes, Jagz Kooner, Laurie Anderson, Jah Wobble and more.Tune into new broadcasts of ¡Golazo! with Matt Pape LIVE, Thursday from 12 - 2 PM EST / 5-7 PM GMT.//Dig this show? Aquarium Drunkard - SIDECAR (TRANSMISSIONS) - Podcast

Incoming transmission from Roger Eno. This week on the show, he joins us for a freewheeling, friendly chat about art, place, and Dune (1984). Eno began his recording life in 1983, when he joined his brother Brian and Daniel Lanois at the latter's studio in Hamilton, Ontario, to cut one of our favorite albums of all-time, Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks. Imbued with country and western ambiance, it suggests the vastness of space and man's ventures into it. Not only that, but it serves as one of the foundational documents of the "ambient country" subgenre that practically forms its own corner of the Aquarium Drunkard sonic universe.  Eno got started on solo work after that, with Voices, and he's continued to record ever since, both in collaboration with his brother Brian, like on 2020's Mixing Colours, on his own, and with a diverse cast of artists including David Gilmore, The Orb, Jah Wobble, Youth, and Channel Light Vessel, his group with Bill Nelson, Kate St. John, and previous Transmissions guest Laraaji. His latest and second album for Deutsche Grammophon is The Skies, They Shift Like Chords. Eno joined host Jason P. Woodbury early this year to discuss that record, and a lot more: psycho-geography, space travel, and what he can recall about his work on the soundtrack with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois on the soundtrack for David Lynch's 1984 adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune. The sleeper has awakened. Transmissions is a part of the Talkhouse Podcast Network. Visit the Talkhouse for more interviews, fascinating reads, and podcasts. Next week on Transmissions? An interview with Aquarium Drunkard founder Justin Gage.

Formed in 1968, the German group Can's founding members included Irmin Schmidt and Holger Czukay who had both studied under Karlheinz Stockhausen. Joined by jazz drummer Jaki Liebezeit, guitarist Michael Karoli and Japanese vocalist Damo Suzuki for the group's 'classic' line-up that recorded Tago Mago (1971) and Ege Bamyasi (1972), their fourth album - Future Days - saw them exploring a more ambient, blissed-out sound, in contrast to their previous releases. Matthew Sweet is joined by musicians Jah Wobble and Gwenno, novelist Alan Warner and cultural historian Mererid Puw Davies to take a deep dive into the album and explore the blend of influences that made Can such a unique musical proposition.Producer: Torquil MacLeodAn expanded edition of Jah Wobble's autobiography Dark Luminosity: Memoirs of a Geezer is out on 7th March.

Jah Wobble - aka John Wardle - wrote ‘Dark Luminosity: Memoirs of a Geezer' in 2009. It's just been reworked, expanded and republished and it's well worth reading, full of detail about growing up in the East End, unexploded bombs, pickling factories, grim schooldays, record shops and clubs, the bands he saw and his arrival at Kingsway College where he met John Lydon and Sid Vicious and became a cornerstone of the punk rock inner circle. And then two challenging years as the bassist of Public Image Ltd, the time he worked as a train driver and ticket collector for London Transport, a series of collaborations – Brian Eno, Baaba Maal, Holger Czukay, Sinead O'Connor, Chaka Demus – and some bold and original solo albums (you'll enjoy Island Records' reaction when he pitches an album based on the poems of William Blake). Among this podcast's highlights … … the Kafkaesque world of working for the London Underground in the days when you could “punch an area manager and not get sacked”. … why great rhythm sections are like great football players. … his dad, an El-Alamein survivor, on seeing Mick Jagger on Top of the Pops: “the Rolling Stones should be used for mine clearance.” … Public Image Ltd – “three of the weirdest people you could ever meet”, the band that kept their cash in a shoebox. … “you can't go through life as a tourist”. … the secret of the perfect bass sound. … watching the first Sex Pistols' rehearsal. … seeing Bob Marley & the Wailers at the Lyceum. … the record that reversed his dislike of the Beatles. … why working with Pharoah Sanders was the highlight of his musical life. … his 2023 album, ‘The Bus Routes of South London'. … Jim Reeves, Burl Ives and further sounds of the family homestead. ... and a powerful aversion to hippies. Order John's memoir here …https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dark-Luminosity-Memoirs-Geezer-expanded/dp/0571375359Subscribe to Word In Your Ear on Patreon for early - and ad-free - access to all of our content, plus a whole load more: https://www.patreon.com/wordinyourear Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. This week we welcome one of the greatest musicians alive, bassist Jah Wobble! Jah first rose to prominence in PIL alongside John Lydon on their first two groundbreaking albums. After he left he struggled for a few years before picking it back up with the Invaders of the Heart and playing with almost everyone. In this conversation we discuss artists as diverse as Sinead O'Connor, Ginger Baker and Suggs. In 2023 alone he released several new projects, the main one being his new solo album, A Brief History of Now. Jah joins us to discuss all of it (as much as we can fit anyway) including that infamous American Bandstand appearance, the late great Geordie Walker, getting sober, Buddhism, and everything in between. Enjoy!  www.jahwobble.com www.patreon.com/thehustlepod
