Future Plan 2030 er Volkswagens nye spare- og omstillingsplan, som skal sænke omkostningerne, forenkle koncernen og frigøre flere penge til udviklingen af nye biler og teknologi. René Tønder har analyseret planen og tvivler på, at Volkswagen kan løfte indtjeningen som planlagt. »Volkswagen er ikke ved at løbe tør for penge, men Europas største bilkoncern tjener ikke nok til at udvikle fremtidens biler og den teknologi, som koncernen skal leve af i de kommende år,« siger René Tønder i Bilradio-podcasten. Indtjeningen fra Kina er faldet kraftigt, amerikansk told koster koncernen milliarder, og Volkswagen kæmper med softwareproblemer, der har stået på i årevis, og langsomme beslutningsgange. Når tidligere spareprogrammer tælles med, skal der samlet forsvinde omkring 100.000 stillinger. Antallet af bilmodeller skal reduceres med cirka 50 pct., mens tre ud af fire udstyrsvarianter skal væk.
