When Bernie finds how deep it hurts Tony to have run away "yellow" as always, he offers to teach him all about fighting, or rather not having to thanks to a deterring aura of confidence, which works great in role-play with ever-gentle Mikey, who shyly sends himself to his room after a single glance from castle-built Bernie. The men go test it at the restaurant, but the burly brute doesn't show up; Tony still gets a black eye from an old crone pushing the door, but the homegirls go ape about his "primitive misbehavior." Chuck and Roxy are back with special guests Ritz and Dina near Dinora to do a re-watch of the CBS short lived sitcom "Listen Up." Season 1 (Episode 1) Former sports commentator Tony Kleinman is the comical star-half of a TV-life show presenter duo with ex-jock Bernie Widmer, loaded with sports angles and terminology. Tony also has a syndicated newspaper column in which he usually writes ironically about life from the viewpoint of a short, fat non-beauty, just like him. When Bernie teases Tony for always writing about his own appearance, he promises something different and comes up with the way his teenage daughter Megan treats her dad--as if--and lastly, even explicitly said, he knows nothing and is always wrong while 'even a broken-down clock is right twice a day'. When his wife Dana brings home a potential big-bucks sponsor for her zoo charity, Tony quickly chases him off by taking issue with the mere phrasing that he is 'surprisingly' funny and talented on his show. Tony's son Mickey, on the other hand, avoids all controversy, too absorbed by his studious reading to notice anything trivial, such as Dad attending his golf practice--except his mean kid sister Megan pinching him arm blue for not standing up for himself. Our guests today are Jeff Martin and Blake Adams, creators and proprietors of Short and Fat, a unique custom men's clothing line. While there are plenty of options out there for plus sizes, big and tall, and regular, there just aren't traditionally that many for, well, someone who may be short and fat. Short and Fat originated in 2017 as Jeff and Blake's response to a lack of clothing options for men who are “short and fat”. Their online store focuses on a subscription-based service for men'scustom shirts with hundreds of choices for customers. Shirts can be ordered on their website,https://shortandfat.com/ and have a one-month turnaround. Customers are shown nine videos which demonstrate the correct way to measure yourself and Short and Fat takes these measurements to make a perfectly tailored shirt! There are nine different cuffs and collars to choose from, as well as a choice of pocket, button color, button stitching, and shirt fabric. Jeff Martin tells us they are “custom built shirts for custom built men” which will givetheir customers confidence in their appearance. https://youtu.be/OsNeqgrmFME They have found five pain points for men's dress shirts: collars, shoulder seams, sleeve length, shirt length, and something they call the “belly wink”. Blake describes it as the moment where someone's shirt is too tight, and the buttonhole opens and “winks” at you. Short and Fat addresses these pain points with the 3 important variables to feeling more confident: fit, fabric, and fashion. They want the shirts to fit well, with over 1200 fabrics to choose from while also adding the fashion aspect with small details like buttons. The custom shirts, manufactured in Bangkok and shipped directly to Short and Fat, are allwrinkle free, aside from the linen, and customers don't have to tuck in their shirt if they don'twant to. The average Short and Fat customer stays with the business for a long time, because once theshirt fits perfectly, the measurements and customizations are saved. The subscription serviceallows customers to receive custom shirts they know will fit well on a quarterly basis. Blake Adams has a “no bullshirt guarantee” that if a shirt doesn't fit perfectly, they'll retry until they get it right. Blake's customer service is one reason why the business made it through the pandemicafter production shut down. He kept customers up to date and made sure they received the shirts they were owed once production picked up again. Blake also uses a one-on-one approach with customers for their custom blazers and suits. Suits and blazers cannot be ordered on their website yet, but Blake will assist customers in creating the perfect suit through email. He helps with fabric, accent color, and gives advice to first time customers when creating their suit or blazer. The idea for the business began when Jeff Martin was shopping in the “big and tall” section ofthe men's department store. He had trouble getting a shirt to fit his neck and said, “I'm not bigand tall, I'm short and fat”. Later, he met Blake at a Catholic retreat where they shared theirsimilar struggles with men's shirts. Blake was on board immediately, the two entrepreneurslaunched a Kickstarter campaign, and Short and Fat was born as a way to help men who are "vertically challenged and horizontally blessed." Now they say that they are a startup with eight years of experience since COVID shut them down for nine months. Short and Fat is a passion project for Jeff Martin and Blake Adams, and Jeff says, “we know ourcustomer; we are our customer”. Welcome to season 2 of Church Chat, the show that has the conversations about ministry you wish you were having. Today we're talking to Jeff Martin, Lead Pastor of Rock Creek Church, about the difference between relational and organizational problems, making big changes the simple way, ministering in a transient community, being a flexible leader, what the world needs in a hyper partisan environment, how to combat the one-way sermon, being a majority leader in a diverse community, attracting the younger generation, developing a replace yourself mentality and more! Jeff Martin grew up in northern New Jersey and attended Miami University (OH) where God changed his life's ambitions through the ministry of Cru. He joined Cru staff where he met Mary, and they served for 23 years together. Seven of those years were spent in Bulgaria helping to launch collegiate ministries. Back in the States, Jeff served as the Regional Director for Cru in the Mid-Atlantic. In addition to his RD role, Jeff had the privilege of training hundreds of Cru staff members in Christ-centered preaching, through the Institute for Biblical Studies. Jeff has an MDIV from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Since 2013, Jeff has served as the Lead Pastor of Rock Creek Church in Rockville, Maryland. His love for ministry leaders has recently led him to pursue certification with the Society of Church Consultants. In July of 2024, he launched JTM Ministry Coaching with the vision of helping leaders build healthy, gospel-centered ministries. Jeff loves sports, intense conversations, making people laugh, and creating boating videos on his YouTube channel. He and Mary have been married for 33 years and have two daughters, two sons-in-law, one son, and one grandson. They currently reside in Olney, Maryland. On today's episode, I talk to musician Jeff Martin. Originally from Los Angeles, CA, Jeff started playing piano when he was but a mere toddler. In 1992, he formed the band Idaho with his high school friend John Berry, though Berry would leave a few years later, making Idaho primarily Jeff's project. The band first signed to Caroline, who released their first three albums and an EP, but with their breakthrough album in 2000, Hearts of Palm, they began releasing music on their own Idaho Music label.
