In this episode, recorded on April 4th in the stunning Seychelles, I sit down with Stéphane Duchenne, General Manager of Constance Ephelia Resort, and Markus Ultsch-Unrath, the resort's Sustainability, Health, and Safety Manager. In this chat, we explore their recent milestone achievement — becoming the first recipient of the Platinum Award at the Sustainable Seychelles Recognition & Certification Ceremony. Our wide-ranging conversation reveals how sustainability at Constance Ephelia goes far beyond carbon offsets and recycling bins. As Stéphane eloquently puts it, it's a philosophy rooted in the land, sung by the local community, and seen in the eyes of children playing among the mangroves. as Markus says: “We're not just here to protect nature — we're here to pass it on.”

Since transitioning to COR® 2020, Bothwell-Accurate's reputation has improved due to better organization and better solutions to issues, increasing their confidence and ability to bid on projects and maintain a good reputation in the construction sector.Carlo states that the audit process may appear daunting at first, especially when hearing the word ‘audit', but it does not have to be. The audit process simply evaluates a company's current OHSMS system to see where gaps exist and how to improve. Carlo also shares some tips to help in the transition process, such as joining the HSEp, thoroughly understanding the audit guidelines, and, most importantly, reaching out to an IHSA consultant to assist with the transition.Free ResourcesCOR® – Getting StartedIHSA COR® PodcastWSIB's Health and Safety Excellence ProgramSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In the first segment of this episode, Stacey is joined by Jordan Geibig, the Safety Manager for M.C. Dean Inc., a company that builds cyber-physical solutions for mission-critical facilities and global enterprises. Stacey and Jordan chat about what it's like working as a woman in construction, and the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion. In the second segment of this episode, Stacey is joined by Melanie Adams, who started a company, Embher (pronounced “ember”), that created the first female-only brand of flame-resistant clothing. This episode‘s guest is Keith Prendergast, Safety Manager at A. Murphy, Inc, and a Local 103 IBEW Safety Committee member. With a modest upbringing and decades in the construction trades as an electrician, as well as recovery from substance use disorder, he has been an active member in the union's efforts to help workers recover from substance use and address workplace mental health. Construction generates nearly $1.8 trillion for the U.S. economy. The industry has more than 753,000 employers, with over 7.8 million employees, to the U. S. economy each year. While the industry is a significant contributor to the economy, it comes at a cost from a psychological health and safety perspective. The construction industry has the second highest rate of suicide in the United States at 53.3 per 100,000 workers, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). In the U.S., nearly 45,000 Americans die by suicide each year — one person every 12 minutes. And for every death, there are more than 22 suicide attempts. In this episode, we'll be talking about a serious topic, but we'll be talking about it from a hopeful perspective from the perspective of workers, and in this case, union workers helping each other.
Safety is the expected norm in every functioning workplace no matter what the industry. Workers have the right to a safe working environment, which is why the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, better known as OSHA, was created in 1971. While every company has a standard to meet, there are additional safety protocols that can aid a company in creating more productivity. Evaporative cooling company, Portacool, knows exactly how to implement that and wield beneficial results. What implementations can companies put in place to increase safety, and subsequently, productivity among their workers? For the latest episode of Keep Kuul, host Michelle Dawn Mooney interviewed Portacool's Safety Manager, Micah Fenton, on how safety improves work quality, and why implementing safety protocols in the workplace raises safety awareness. Mooney and Fenton further discussed …1. The link between employee safety and productivity2. Implementing safety methods in the workplace3. The importance of safety and prioritizing it among staff “Well, safety is just the right thing to do. So, if you have employee safety, that's just the right thing to do — to have for your employees. It's just the most quality thing that you can do for your employees. So, not only are you going to get quality product, you have quality employees because they actually want to be there. They want to be working, they want to be working in a safe environment. No one wants to go to work in a place where they don't feel like they're safe there … So, safety is a huge deal, so we always keep it in mind, keep it on the focus, keep it in the conversation,” said Fenton.Micah Fenton is the Safety Manager at Portacool. There can be little argument that the COVID pandemic of the last few years forced a lot of folks to become more acquainted with their own homes, where they found themselves spending more and more time. It is for that reason that the home renovation and design industries stayed healthy while many other businesses struggled. With that in mind — and with spring right around the corner — could there be a better time for the 25th annual North Atlanta Home Show? Set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Gas South Convention Center in Duluth, the North Atlanta Home Show will bring more than 160 exhibitors to the area for a comprehensive collection of products, services, displays and experts that covers just about everything related to home improvement. Levine added that with the expansion of the convention center now complete, there will be even more opportunities for patrons to be dazzled by the array of options. Last year's home show attracted some 7,000 visitors and Levine said he can see even more attendees this time around. The home show is produced by Marketplace Events, North America's largest presenter of home, garden, holiday and bridal shows. Levine said just every show produced thus far in 2023 — including Oklahoma City, Dallas, Washington, Kansas City, Austin, Salt Lake City and several Canadian cities — has seen an uptick in visitors. This week on Dirt Talk, we were delighted to host Aric Smith, Safety Manager at Achen-Gardner Construction out of Chandler, AZ. Aric has done it all in the Dirt World: he started running tractors in high school, pouring concrete, digging ponds, pipelayer… and this was before even becoming an operator! Also to note: Aric used to run a crew that included none other than 18-year-old (and future Dirt Talk host) Aaron Witt himself. Aaron and Aric dig into Aric's background cutting his teeth on farm equipment on his grandparent's hobby farm before jumping into a career in the Dirt World. He recounts stories of past road work projects, his affinity for strong unions, and the frustration that comes when people don't respect construction zones on the highway. This episode is particularly technical, so for the folks who ask for these types of convos: we got you. — — Let's build a BETTER DIRT WORLD DirtWorld.com Without the Dirt World, we wouldn't have food, clean water, electricity, roads, or shelter required for survival.
