One of the great American character actors, Harry Dean Stanton had over 200 acting credits but only played the leading role in two films, and my guest Justin Schneider (a patron of the podcast) pitched his way onto the show to discuss them: 1984's arthouse classic Paris, Texas and the underseen 2017 comedy-drama Lucky (Stanton's final film to be released before his death). Along the way we discuss the healing power of cinema, and how beloved Harry Dean was with filmmakers, actors and audiences. Patrons of the Junk Filter podcast receive at least two additional exclusive episodes a month: some of our notable previous guests include Jared Yates Sexton, David Roth, Bryan Quinby, Sooz Kempner, and Jacob Bacharach. Piano men, or women, often seem to be the outliers in popular music. They are the exception, not rule, ranging from Leon Russell to Billy Joel and Elton John, Marc Cohn, John Legend and more. Over the last few years, singer-songwriter Lucas Jack has built an impressive catalogue of music, and yes, you guessed it – he's a piano man. A Michigan native, Jack bowed out of life as a Chicago lawyer and part-time musician to build a full-time music career in Texas clubs with his trio that includes former Nashville session bassist Justin Schneider and drummer Mike Gomez. The band now operates out of St. Louis – where Jack recently completed a live performance studio focused on delivering a steady flow of online performances to fans. Jack and the band sat down with The Load Out for a conversation and performances from the new studio.

Thank you for tuning into "Starting Small", a podcast about brand development, entrepreneurship, and innovation in the modern world. In this episode, I am joined by Justin Schneider, CEO and Co-Founder of Wolf & Shepherd, home of arguably the most comfortable dress shoes. Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia, Justin comes from Korean and German descent, where expectations were high through family members attending prestigious universities. Justin studied architecture at the University of Notre Dame, where he ran track and field, which had much impact on his future endeavors. After working in design at some of the world's leading footwear brands, Justin realized the void in a comfortable dress shoe that the fast-paced corporate world calls for. Implementing a combination of both casual and formal materials, Wolf & Shepherd was born, a shoes made to work as hard as you do. Wolf & Shepherd shoes were put to the test when a runner ran a half marathon, winning first place and setting a Guinness World Record for the fasted half marathon in dress shoes. In 2018, Justin himself ran the iconic running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, all while wearing a pair of Wolf & Shepherds. Through these physical experiments and collaborations with athletes such as Steve Nash, Wolf & Shepherd is completely revolutionizing the dress shoe industry. Find the Light was born from a single Facebook status I made calling attention to the alarming number of students and alumni of the Fort Zumwalt School District that have taken their life or passed away from overdose. That status blossomed into a Facebook group that by that weekend had 1,000 members, and now sits comfortably above 3,600. We as a Foundation are dedicated to advocating on behalf of students and teachers for better mental health resources and programs inside of schools, as well as doing whatever we can to fight the growing trend of suicide and overdose in teens and young adults, specifically in schools. We hope to institute programs to foster mental health reform in schools, and change the national conversation on mental illness and drug addiction. Our guest today is Justin Schneider. He’s the founder and CEO for Wolf & Shepherd, a rising footwear brand making high-end, performance dress shoes. We wanted to have Justin on the show for a few reasons. 1) He was a former student-athlete himself. And he shares how that experience has impacted his approach to live after sports. 2) His insights around storytelling, innovation and creating experiences that customers love are super applicable to sports & entertainment and live events. 3) I’m ready to see some variety in shoe-wear in our industry. I know people love those Cole Haan's, but I’m ready for the next evolution of footwear in our industry. One more thing before we jump into our conversation with Justin. He surprised me at the end and offered a promo code for any of our listeners. If you decide to buy a Wolf & Shepherd shoes while we’re quarantined, you can enter the code "engagemint25" and and get 25% your order. Act quick, because this code only lasts til we get out of quarantine, or until June 1... whichever comes first.Wolf & Shepherd website Additional Resources mentioned in the Show:How Success Happens podcast episode with Justin Schneider Playing to Win by AG Lafley, Roger Martin
