BeatBox went from an MBA project to a $245M projected brand in 2025, winning over Mark Cuban on Shark Tank and more recently, partnering with Shaquille O'Neal, who not only invested but co-developed the company's most successful product launch to date, Shaq's Blueberry Lemonade. Michael Fisher was making gummy worms in his kitchen during COVID when he realized candy hadn't been reimagined for today's consumer. With no food science background, he started experimenting—less sugar, no artificial dyes, and all the nostalgia of sour gummies. That tinkering turned into Rotten, a candy brand with its own world, characters, and cult following. From a Kickstarter launch in 2023 to landing in retailers like Foxtrot and Hy-Vee within months, Rotten has grown fast by pairing bold branding with better-for-you candy that doesn't compromise on taste. In this episode, Michael shares how he built Rotten from scratch, why brand world-building matters in CPG, and what the future of candy looks like when it's fun and functional. In this episode of Let's Talk Shop, I'm joined by illustrator and calligrapher Kate, the creative mind behind Peggy and Kate. Kate's nostalgic, story-led cards, prints, and wrapping paper all begin as hand-painted illustrations, capturing the small glimmers of happiness in everyday life. We talk about how she's grown her wholesale to around 50 stockists, the reality of doing just one trade show a year, and why she's never really felt “ready” – but started anyway. From learning the ropes at her first Top Drawer, to creating visual cues (including her “f*** it button”) to push through fear, Kate shares how imperfect action and small steps built her confidence and her brand. If you've ever hesitated to pitch, felt vulnerable about sharing your work, or wondered whether you need to wait until you're “ready” – Kate's story will resonate. And if you want support to take bold action this season, make sure you join me for my free workshop Cracking Christmas: Build Your Sales Plan for Your Best Q4 Yet on Wednesday, 24th September at 11 AM UK time.

You get Free Rein Coffee: a brand born in West Texas, fueled by grit—and pushing into major retail faster than most. Spoiler: that's a lie. Whether you're launching something new or just starting again, this is your permission slip to begin messy, begin tiny — but begin anyway. ☕

Emily Hosie spent over a decade inside some of the biggest names in off-price retail—Saks Off 5th, Holt Renfrew, and TJX—before launching REBEL, the first curated marketplace for open-box baby and home goods. After a year of being turned away by brands unwilling to admit the waste, REBEL secured major partners—and then a defining moment came. Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy BABY filed for bankruptcy, and REBEL was tapped to process the returns. Overnight, volume surged and the tech had to scale fast. Today, REBEL processes 70,000 SKUs a week and operates a 300,000 sq. ft. facility in North Carolina. They've saved over 25 million pounds of product from landfill—all while becoming a go-to platform for Gen Z and millennial consumers looking for trusted brands at up to 50% off. Send Krystal a Text Message. What if securing professional opportunities is less about networking and more about being a decent person? In a conversation with Lisa Cooper Ellison, a trauma-informed writing coach and host of the "Writing Your Resilience" podcast, we explore how authentic connections can open unexpected doors in content creation.Lisa shares how her first major speaking opportunity on NPR arose from connecting with fellow writers rather than a strategic pitch. "These industries are small," she notes, emphasizing the importance of relationships in her work. She discusses her journey from agency therapist to writing coach and podcaster, highlighting the benefits of consistent content creation in enhancing her skills and shaping her coaching programs. Lisa also candidly addresses the challenges of maintaining a podcast amid personal and professional obstacles, offering practical advice for dealing with self-doubt and disruptions. Her metaphor of hill-running encourages creators to focus on the immediate path rather than the overwhelming larger picture. In this episode of The Creative Genius Podcast, I talk with designer, writer, and thinker Ben Rennie, author of a new book that explores the transformative power of curiosity and creativity. Together, we unpack the dynamic relationship between curiosity, creativity, and confidence, and how this path can guide us to overcome fear and step more fully into our potential. Berk Bahceci left a career in antitrust law in Washington, D.C., to build something deeply personal. Born in Turkey and raised around olive groves, Berk saw a massive blind spot in the U.S. market: despite being one of the top producers in the world, Turkish olive oil had no brand recognition on American shelves. So, he built one from scratch. In this episode, Berk shares how he vertically integrated Heraclea—from grove to bottle—and became the world's first Fair Trade certified olive oil company. We talk sourcing, scaling without a single customer, and why flavored oils like garlic and lemon are flying off shelves. Mike Lombardo didn't come from food and bev. He was a college student, Army National Guard soldier, and drummer chasing big ideas. But when his high school swim teammate Kayvon began managing ulcerative colitis by mixing prebiotic tea, everything changed. The two co-founders started bottling it out of a brewery in New Jersey—selling to one Whole Foods, cold-brewing by hand, and making just $18K in their first year. Then COVID hit, and they scrapped everything. In 2021, they relaunched as Halfday: a better-for-you iced tea with 3–5g of sugar, 8g of prebiotic fiber, and branding that reimagined the Arizona and Snapple classics they grew up on. They pitched their first retail account from a hospital bed, filled their first PO with 60,000 cans in six weeks, and packed boxes themselves to make it happen. One press article brought in $10K in DTC sales overnight. Now, Halfday is stocked nationwide, building a brand that stands out in one of the most competitive categories in CPG.
