It seems like more and more indie games are causing big waves in the gaming zeitgeist. One of the earlier examples of this is the game being covered in this episode. I am joined by Anthony from the Indie Diarist Podcast to discuss the acclaimed indie game To the Moon. We discuss some of the game's history, its thematic material and how it affected us personally. We discuss the morality explored in this game and how sometimes just one line can really affect you. It was an amazing discussion and I hope you all enjoy it! Impostor Factory is a visual novel of sorts that looks like a 16-bit RPG, the third game in Kan Gao's Sigmund Corp trilogy after To the Moon and Finding Paradise, and oh boy does it leave an impression. A Bird Story, Kan Gao's second indie hit, is a preview for the upcoming game Finding Paradise, but is a beautiful silent film of a game in its own right. With zero lines of dialog and a runtime of under 90 minutes, A Bird Story won't take up much time to play, but it quickly seized the hearts of these two Retro Encounter panelists.
Kan Gao from Freebird Games and we’ll be talking about his projects and much more.
This week on Built to Play, we talk to Kan Gao about music and memories in To the Moon. Heidi MacDonald tells us which video game character would have the most success on OKCupid. George Buckenham of the Wild Rumpus discusses how to make a sweet game party. Plus, Facebook buys Oculus, 3D Realms wants to make a new Duke Nukem and Iron Galaxy develops a Killer Instinct, season two.
The art in To the Moon is deceptively simple. With blocky graphics, it's a lot like an Impressionist painting up close. But as you sit back, the images come alive. Kan Gao's atmosphere score is much the same.
