This is an amazing send off for Robert Plant's higher range. December 8, 1972 at the Hard Rock in Manchester, UK is a great performance of a great band reaching their peak. The recording is clear and nice, and the instruments are all well balanced and represented. I play Since I've Been Loving You, and a raucous 27 minute Whole Lotta Love, with jams and medleys aplenty. It's great. It's 1972 Led Zeppelin. You should get the whole recording.
From the moment we hear those first notes blaring through stadium speakers, something magical happens. Baseball's walk-up songs do more than just fill empty space—they transform ordinary at-bats into cinematic moments, creating instant connections between players and fans.Matt and Sam dive into the fascinating world of MLB entrance music, exploring how these brief musical snippets reveal player personalities while energizing crowds. Whether it's Francisco Lindor's unexpected choice of "My Girl" that has entire Mets crowds singing in unison long after the music stops, or the bass-heavy swagger of Aaron Judge's "Swag Surfin'" that signals a potential home run, these musical decisions are carefully calculated for maximum impact. The conversation spans from classic rock anthems like "Layla" (Pete Alonso) and "Whole Lotta Love" (Austin Wells) to contemporary hits from Rihanna and Lil Baby, with each selection offering insight into the player behind it. We even venture into international territory with Korean star Young Hoo Lee's electrifying choice of Supreme Team's "Dang, Dang, Dang."Beyond the music itself, Matt and Sam explore the fascinating superstitions surrounding walk-up songs, including Nick Castellanos's strange reputation for hitting home runs during tragic news broadcasts, and how players often change their music during slumps or hitting streaks. With players getting just 30 seconds to make an impression through sound, every beat counts.Whether you're a baseball die-hard or simply appreciate how music heightens dramatic moments, this episode delivers an entertaining look at the soundtrack of America's pastime. Led Zeppelin shook the world of rock & roll for little more than a decade, but their legacy lives on stronger than ever. Masters of creativity and diversity, their music covers such a wide range of styles and genres that they are difficult to define. Their collective talent remains unmatched and unchallenged. There will never be another Led Zeppelin. Their songs are still aired regularly, and their recordings are being bought in droves by new generations, but fans of the band still crave the raw energy of a live show. Enter Black Dog. Black Dog proudly pays tribute to the mighty Led Zeppelin with an extensive catalogue of songs comprised of classic masterpieces like "Dazed and Confused", "Heartbreaker", and "Stairway to Heaven", as well as the less heard B-sides to satisfy the more discerning fans. A complete acoustic set recreates an intimate setting with mandolin and custom tuned guitars played on stools, bringing to life songs like "Going to California", "Friends", and "That's the Way". The show also includes extended versions that recapture the true live experience such as The Song Remains the Same's "Whole Lotta Love", complete with Page's magical Theramin solo! The members established the band in early 2000, and they are all accomplished musicians with considerable experience. Black Dog is the definitive Led Zeppelin tribute band. Fresh from the success of their debut album, Led Zeppelin unleashed the iconic “Whole Lotta Love” onto the world. Little did they know, this experimental, almost chaotic journey would become a cornerstone of rock history – what began as a blues-inspired riff, transformed into an explosive rock journey that would put the name Led Zeppelin and their groundbreaking sound on every music fan's lips. With its iconic Jimmy Page riff, Robert Plant's primal vocals, and that infamous psychedelic mid-section, “Whole Lotta Love” defied expectations, becoming a defining anthem of the band and a landmark in Rock music.Episode Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7Kt71PZYEkVIaqnFWqDhEU?si=b9fae7e8bf554037* Follow Long Live Rock 'N' Roll online: https://linktr.ee/longlivernrpod* Get in touch and/or leave us a review: longliverocknrollpodcast@gmail.com* Listen & Review us on Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/long-live-rock-n-roll/id1581139831* Listen & Review us on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2wZW1BYAw9wJ6Z5blo2uGj
This is a very nice stereo recording (AUD patched w/ SBD) remastered by Winston, of Led Zeppelin playing New Orleans on May 15, 1973. This is a fun performance which is one of the best of their May shows. I play the final trifecta of the night; Heartbreaker, Whole Lotta Love (with medleys aplenty), and Communication Breakdown. All performances are great and you will enjoy them. You will enjoy them.
Artificial intelligence tools for musicians are getting eerily good, very fast. Their work can be maddening, funny, ethically dubious, and downright fascinating all at the same time. TV and podcast composer Mark Henry Phillips joins to describe his experience working with them. We talk about the job of modern music composition; why he's worried AI might eventually do much of his current job; the morass of AI copyright law; and the ethics of creative ownership. But above all, Mark gets my brain whirring about the nature of creativity—how great new ideas, like songs, come to be in the first place. The line between stealing and inspiration in artistic history has always been blurry. Picasso famously said: “Good artists copy, great artists steal.” And that is not just a memorable quote. Many of my favorite musicians were famous borrowers, to put it lightly. Some of Led Zeppelin's most famous songs—such as "Whole Lotta Love"—were such obvious lifts that, after years of court cases, the band agreed to add the plaintiff to the song credits. But analogies to music and art history also fall short to capture the weirdness of this moment. Neither Picasso nor Jimmy Page had access to an external technology whose deliberate function was to slurp up musical elements from millions of songs, store their essence in silicon memory, and serve them up in a kind of synthetic stir fry on an order-by-order basis. Musicians have been writing music with partners for decades, even centuries. What happens to music when that partner is a machine: Will it open up new horizons in songwriting and composition? Or in a sad way, will super-intelligence make the future of music more average than ever? Eric and Pastor Clay sat down to discuss the Loving Large series and how we celebrate love in our relationships. They both agree that Valentine's Day is a bit overrated but showing love in all relationships is important. Pastor Clay also shared an alternate opening to his sermon from Sunday making the point that we are not supposed to be a "one-hit-wonder" when it comes to showing God's love. The 1996 Page/Plant tour of Japan has been extremely well regarded, and documented, for close to 30 years. Thanks to the fantastic audio and video captured, with the ok of the band, by Third Eye, we have a magnificent full stereo recording of February 12, 1996 in Tokyo. We hear a tender Tea for One (only ever played on this tour) with orchestra, a brilliant and bombastic Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, with a nice Stairway tease, and a supremely tight and cool af Whole Lotta Love, which contains the original, the Knebworth version, and new sections exclusive to the Page/Plant partnership. It's awesome. The whole show.
I once again revisit one of the finest Zep concerts, at least of the post 1973 era. July 24, 1979 at the Falkoner Theater in Copenhagen is absolutely brilliant concert by the biggest band in the world, playing a 1200 seat venue, as a warmup to their 200,000+ Knebworth shows the next month. I play Trampled Underfoot, In The Evening (2nd time played), and a raucous Whole Lotta Love with a new arrangement for a new era. All this in anticipation of the newly discovered live film from this show, to be released with synced sound by LedZepFilm, on 2/18/25 on his youtube channel. So cool.

December 20, 1972 at the Brighton Dome in good old Brighton, UK. This is digital transfer of the original master cassette, courtesy of KRW_Co. Being a master recording all the clarity which the recorder could capture is preserved. I play Misty Mountain Hop and a 30 minute, everything but the kitchen sink, rendition of Whole Lotta Love. So many medleys!
Led Zeppelin are one of the most beloved and influential bands of all time. They set the world alight in the 70s along with the British Invasion and songs like Whole Lotta Love, and Stairway to Heaven. It was a heady time of success and excess for the band, but from the very beginning rumours circulated about their involvement in the occult and paranormal. On this episode Kit and Rory dive in to the legends of satanism and ritual that surrounded the band to decide; was any of it really paranormal?Follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTubeJoin our Secret Society Facebook CommunitySupport us on Patreon.com/ThisParanormalLife to get access to weekly bonus episodes!Buy Official TPL Merch! - thisparanormallife.com/storeIntro music by www.purple-planet.comEdited by Philip ShackladyResearch by Ewen Friers Hosted on Acast. I've been going through a bit of a Brussels period, with 1980 and now 1972 back to back. Led Zeppelin usually played well in Brussels, and this show is no exception. May 28, 1972 has the band in fine form as I play Immigrant Song/Heartbreaker and the entire acoustic set of Going to California, That's the Way, and Bron-y-Aur Stomp. Acoustic Zeppelin is always a treat and this is no different. This show captures a transition period as they become, and then embrace being, the biggest band in the world. I covered Dazed and Whole Lotta Love years and years ago, this is another view with different songs.
I was led to this show by a thread on Royal Orleans (a Zep fan site) in which someone wrote a brilliant essay about 1980 and how it deserves another look, as it's not all dysfunction, addiction, and flat performances. I've gotten to the point where I'd say at least half the 1980 Tour over Europe is pretty damn good, even great. June 20, 1980 the band played Brussels and they completely knocked it out of the park. It's interesting to hear Jimmy's newer 'vocabulary' in his playing. Trampled Underfoot is crazy good, Since I've Been Loving You (not often a high point on this tour) is brilliant, with some nice syncopation and interplay between Jonesy, Jimmy, and Bonzo. It's mature and intelligent and cogent. I am absolutely gobsmacked at how my 1980 bias kept me from hearing the beauty in these early 1980 shows. After SIBLY I play a rock solid version of Whole Lotta Love which brings the old and the new together in a flurry of improvisation. Lots of Jimmy/Robert back and forth. It's good. You'll like it.

This week we listen to a compilation put together by Led Zeppelin Boots, of Copenhagen and Odense (May 4 and 5 respectively). These are shows in which Led Zeppelin truly were exception. In addition to being on top of their game, with a ridiculously powerful Robert Plant at the fore, they played Gallows Pole and Four Sticks! These songs have only been played a small handful of times, and you're going to hear these amazing rarities, along with a stellar Whole Lotta Love. It's a great time to be a Zep fan.

I couldn't keep this one just to myself. It's too good. Sept. 21 1998 at the Cox Arena is San Diego is a truly magical night. Everyone is playing at 11 and they achieve that elusive synergy wherein the total equals more than the sum of their parts. In How Many More Times, I've never heard the rhythm section sound better or more locked in. Jimmy is 10/10 judged on a Zeppelin scale. He's precise, inventive, and just a demon with the bow solo, the medleys, and just overall on top of it. Better than the Bizarre Festival in my opinion. There's a brief Achilles reference played by Jimmy, a bit of Trampled Underfoot, some of the Isley Bros. It's Your Thing, all played with insane TIGHTNESS. I play Most High, a tight a modern Whole Lotta Love, and the best How Many More Times I've heard since the early 70's. I must say that Robert is an 11/10 hear both in range and in engagement. If you watch the video of this show (Dario Romero's YouTube channel) you will a borderline ecstatic Robert bouncing throughout the show. Just unreal.

Send us a textAs we grew up, music was the most important thing there was. As part of that, we bought some albums that weren't great, and time has generally proven our assessments right! This episode, we talk about some of those "dud" albums, by artists like Bowie, U2, Led Zeppelin, Golden Earring, Neil Young, Alice Cooper, Phil Collins and Yes, to name but a few. In Rock News, we talk about a Filipino family who perform Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love with uncanny precision and an auction of Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie's memorabilia, wardrobe and belongings. Our “Album You Must Listen to Before You Die” is Dire Straits' monster 1985 hit, “Brothers in Arms”. Released at a time when Dire Straits could do no wrong, this album sold over 30 million copies worldwide and went 9 times platinum in the US alone. We damn it with faint praise. Bonzo is the star of this show. Led Zeppelin in St. Paul, Minnesota July, 9, 1973 is a top tier NA 1973 show. Jimmy and Jonesy are on fire, but John Bonham is head and shoulders above them this night. He plays stuff I've not heard before, adding complexity to Heartbreaker and ingenuity to No Quarter and, and bombastic fire to Whole Lotta Love. The band playing at full tilt reminds one of a cheetah running at top speed in pursuit of prey. Absolute beauty and grace. I must confess, I have covered this show before (Ep. 206) but this recording is a brand new remaster by Dario Romero, and it's totally worth the repeat performance. The only repeated song is No Quarter, and it's totally worth the additional listen.
Today we hear some music from Led Zeppelin playing San Diego, 5/28/73, on a soundboard recording remastered by DADGAD. This show has some towering highs and tumbling low points. I play two of the highlights. First is a smokin' Since I've Been Loving You with gorgeous, smooth cooooool jazz piano from Mr. Jones, and Jimmy delivers in spades. Then I play glorious Whole Lotta Love with a trillion medleys, played with abandon and joy, like it's 1971. Some magic here for real.
Jan. 18, 1973 - Led Zeppelin play Bradford UK on their tour of smaller UK venues, before launching on their epic European tour, which gave us all those great shows. This show is on par with those high water marks like Vienna or Essen. I play a raucous and frenetic Whole Lotta Love with joyous medleys aplenty. The rhythm machine is in high gear here. I also play an unorthodox encore performance of the Immigrant Song.

QDJM Archives - Little of This That and a Whole Lotta Love(eclectic worldwide grooves) “I don't recall the reason for compiling these kooky tunes, hearing it again gave me the grins.” ---The QDJM Archives are my re-sharing of mixes and sets that were once here on podomatic, but I ran out of space and took them down in lieu of newer works. Some of these will be by requests, some will be first time posts. This week we take another swing of the hammer of the Gods with Led Zeppelin's 3rd release, Led Zeppelin III. Our guest Karen Haglof came up in the Minneapolis indie music scene in the late 70s, eventually moving to NYC and playing in several of no wave pioneer Rys Chatham's guitar ensembles and later with Band Of Susans, before taking a break to earn a medical degree and join the hematology / oncology department of New York University Hospital. Recently retired and back at music again, Karen freely credits receiving Jimmy Page and co's eclectic 1970 release at the age of 15 as being pivotal to her future musical explorations. Songs discussed in this episode: Since I've Been Loving You - Corinne Bailey Rae (Live at St. Lukes); The Pursuit Of Happiness - Band Of Susans; One Hand Up, Slinky 66, You're Not Where I Am - Karen Haglof; Whole Lotta Love, Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin; Carry On - Crosby Stills Nash and Young; Friends - Led Zeppelin; Guitar Trio Pt. 1 - Rhys Chatham & His Guitar Trio; Celebration Day, Since I've Been Loving You, Out On The Tiles - Led Zeppelin; Gallows Pole - Fred Gerlach; Gallows Pole - Led Zeppelin; Knowing That I'm Losing You - The Yardbirds; Tangerine, That's The Way, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp - Led Zeppelin; Have A Cigar - Pink Floyd; Shake 'Em On Down - Booker (Bukka) White; Hats Off To (Roy) Harper - Led Zeppelin; Rte 66 Revisited - Karen Haglof Check out Karen's music: https://karenhaglof.bandcamp.com/
This is a wonderful, clear, stereo recording of the legendary, and officially released (with a bunch of cuts and edits) April 1, 1971 performance at the Paris Theater, in London. Jonesy's fat bass sounds so good in the left channel. I play a nice punching Communication Breakdown with a very well represented hi-hat in the mix, and finally an epic Whole Lotta Love with a million well defined medleys (which aren't in the official release) like Bottle Up and Go, Mess of the Blues, and a lovely For What It's Worth. I value the complete performances as they have the juice, the magic, whereas the official release has a great Whole Lotta Love, but without all the bells and whistles which make the band magical.

On August 23, 1998 Jimmy Page & Robert Plant played on a "wet, miserable field" in the rain at the Bizzare Festival, in Cologne/Koln Germany. They were touring in support of Walking Into Clarksdale, which was produced/engineered by the late Steve Albini (RIP). This is a fantastic, professionally broadcast, performance and all systems are go with Jimmy on fire, and Robert's voice strong and in control. It's brilliant. I play two songs off Clarksdale and then a very cool performance of Spoonful into a frenetic Whole Lotta Love. I wrap it all up with a clip of Steve Albini talking about working with Jimmy and Robert, in an insightful, if irreverent, interview. Good stuff.
Led Zeppelin's 1973 European tour is generally considered to be the instrumental peak of the band, with Jimmy Page, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones locked in tighter than ever, and playing with breakneck speed. This performance is from Hamburg on March 21, 1973 and is a lovely remastered merge of the 2nd gen audience recording, and the clean as a whistle soundboard (Dazed, Stairway, and Whole Lotta Love only) to present a complete concert experience with best possible fidelity. All this is courtesy of the legendary dadgad. I play a sublime Since I've Been Loving You and then a Dazed and Confused which is a contender for best ever. It's brilliant. As Luis Rey says, you've heard it all before, but never this perfectly. Bonzo. Goddamn. So good. So so good.
June 1972 is a golden month for Zep fans. Lots of great shows, including the ones which would eventually be released as How The West Was Won. This is June 15, 1972 at Nassau Colosseum and it is awesome. We hear a first gen from the AC recording and boy do those guys like to talk. I play Immigrant Song, Heartbreaker, and a Whole Lotta Love with a zillion amazing medleys.

This episode is a request from long time friend and Patron, Other David. Second Knebworth holds a special place in his heart, and he requested I cover this show, which I happily did. We hear the last performance of No Quarter by the original 4 members, with some smooth and jazzy runs by Jimmy, and some almost chaotic chops by Jonesy. It's a unique performance, vibe-wise, and I like it. We also hear a fairly pensive Achilles Last Stand with Jimmy deep in thought during the solo, and it also has a unique vibe, which is helped by the audience recording (Galactic Messiah from EVSD). We finish up with Whole Lotta Love with the new arrangement, as well as a rollicking boogie section. Good stuff. Great Band.

This is one of the all time best concerts ever. Led Zeppelin at the Fillmore April 26, 1969 upgraded from a 1st VHS source. We witness the end of the telecaster era, the penultimate As Long As I Have You, an unreal How Many More Times, and the first extant performance of Whole Lotta Love, ever! This show is perfect. It goes to eleven.

We listen to a new compilation of Led Zeppelin's 1977 US Tour from cmoneysmile via Led Zeppelin Boots' Channel. This is a very nice mix of the best performances from this iconic tour. I play a few tracks, Nobody's Fault, Whole Lotta Love, and some acoustic one offs. A very enjoyable listen.

In today's pop music, everybody is a composer. But what about the classics? The songs that last? In this program we survey African musicians reinterpreting each other's songs, as well as songs from far outside their traditions. And we hear foreign takes on African diaspora music. From Louis Armstrong's “Skokiaan” to Alpha Blondy's “Whole Lotta Love,” it's a journey of discovery and rediscovery. Produced by Banning Eyre. APWW #854
We hear a nice Liriodendron remaster of Led Zeppelin in Frankfurt June 30, 1980, on their Tour Over Europe. This remaster brings a smoother, more professional balance to the soundboard, which makes it all the more fun to hear. I play Trampled Underfoot, (one of the best) Achilles' Last Stand, and a fun and rollicking Whole Lotta Love. They could still deliver in 1980 and they did.
We listen to tracks from Led Zeppelin's second tour of Japan; specifically October 4, 1972 in Osaka. Robert's voice is in the process of shifting from the high register of the early days to the lower range of the latter days (1973 and onwards), which can make for some interesting renditions. We hear Over the Hills and Far Away, and The Song Remains the Same (called the Campaign), and a boisterous Whole Lotta Love with medleys and jams for miles. Powerful show.
